Kinloch Wilderness Retreat

My fiancé and I were here on the 'off season' and the service was exceptional! They have an amazing breakfast, and beautiful, clean rooms. The natural scenery is also just breathtaking. There are many hikes that can be done around the center and many more within a short driving distance. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice, relaxing getaway! I can't wait to go back!

Glorious winter stay at Kinloch - the best stay so far on my South Island trip. Location is beautiful including the star scaoe - though very remote - beware the unsealed country roads!). The cabin I stayed in had full lake views, a super comfortable bed and a lovely bath (bath salts included!). Food was superb. Homemade and often straight from Toni’s garden. Infra red sauna and beautiful spa, plus ski style boot driers were thoughtful touches too.

A hidden gem in a stunning remote location. Toni and her team provide genuine hospitality, while the restaurant showcases delicious, wholesome dishes made with fresh local produce. The facilities are excellent, including a well-equipped shared kitchen, cosy lounge, and relaxing hot tub. The retreat's strong environmental focus adds to its peaceful atmosphere, and Sally, the resident dog, makes every stay even more memorable. If you're looking to disconnect, immerse yourself in nature, and enjoy warm hospitality, Kinloch Wilderness Retreat is an unforgettable place to stay.

As someone who has lived in Queenstown most of my life, I sometimes forget that the most extraordinary places are right on my own doorstep. A winter escape to Kinloch Lodge was a beautiful reminder. From the moment we arrived, everything invited us to slow down. We stayed in one of the EcoScape pods, and it exceeded every expectation. Thoughtfully designed with natural textures and materials that seem to blur the line between indoors and out, it felt less like a hotel room and more like a peaceful sanctuary. Waking to the first light spilling across Lake Wakatipu towards the Dart River was one of those rare moments that stays with you long after you have left. Every detail had been considered. Great coffee while watching the morning unfold over the lake. An incredibly comfortable bed. The immersive in room rollaway projector theatre that made curling up on a winter’s evening feel like an event in itself. Quiet luxury, not through extravagance, but through care. Dinner and breakfast was simply outstanding. Seasonal, beautifully presented and genuinely memorable. I also loved seeing Free AF proudly stocked behind the bar. As someone who now lives alcohol free, it was a small touch that made me feel quietly included, and it spoke volumes about Kinloch’s thoughtful approach to hospitality. What truly elevates this place, though, is the people. Every interaction felt authentic, warm and generous. There is a genuine sense that everyone who works here cares deeply about both the environment they call home and the experience they create for every guest. That feeling can’t be manufactured, and it is something increasingly rare. In the middle of winter, while Queenstown buzzes with ski traffic, Kinloch feels like another world. Peaceful, grounding and deeply restorative. It reminded me that luxury isn’t about excess. It’s about being made to feel welcome, cared for and connected to a remarkable place.
