Was this tour any good? I'm not sure because I couldn't hear 2/3 of what the guide said and left half way into the tour because she was speaking at a volume barely above a conversational level. I wasn't the only one who said they were having trouble hearing her. I mentioned this when she asked if people could hear her, but she didn't adjust her volume in spite of feedback. Particularly annoying was when we were standing twenty feet from the french group whose tour guide spoke twice the volume of ours. Not Recommended
This is a hilarious and informative tour. Our host was very funny and engaging - bringing in members of the tour to help with the story telling. It was so much fun and shows a different hidden side to Quebec City that was really interesting and memorable.
Was interesting history and well acted. Got to walk around areas of lower town that would have never seen.
Our guide, maybe think of as a manifested apparition form the past, took us on an incredible journey into history with amazing stories of her and her husband’s life, and some of the chilling crimes and punishments of the time. While there is a bit of a walk, the setting and atmosphere, as well as her engaging illustrations with us to describe the various stories from this history at various locations, was quite thought evoking. She was very knowledgeable, and represented the character extremely well. We enjoyed, and highly recommend, this tour; it was informative, educational, and fun!
I cannot say enough about this tour. I think it’s fair to say that I am a connoisseur of ghost tours as I make a point of booking one in every major city I visit. This tour was the best of them, surpassing my previous review of the SS Keewatin in Kingston, Ontario. A nice balance of history, storytelling, and theatrics. Our guide, Marie Rivière (a.k.a. Angie), very effectively wove the history of the executioner’s experiences into intense and eerie storytelling. It was thoroughly engaging, creepy, even gruesome at times. I learned more about the dark history of Old Quebec City than I ever imagined I would. When the tour concluded, I made a point of researching some of the stories that were shared and was able to confirm their accuracy. I was impressed by the volume of information that was delivered on this tour. One of the highlights for me was walking through areas of old Quebec city I never would have otherwise visited, especially at night time. It was a perfect evening of eerie stories, shared in obscure areas of the old city. Worth. Every. Dime. The costume was fun and definitely enhanced the atmosphere, but it was unnecessary. Angie’s capacity as a storyteller was enhanced by her humour, her theatrical chops, and her knowledge of the material she presented. I have spoken highly of this tour over several months and have recommended it to friends and family members who are considering a visit to the area. I recommend wearing good walking shoes. Be prepared for a long night of walking on uneven surfaces.
The guide was really fun ! Highly recommend it . Please wear Good shoes needed to walk in the old town, cobblestones, so irregular pavement at places . I would say that it is an Easy to moderate pace . I recommend to the guide , to explain what is the clock about where we stopped . My friend told me that it was a gift , from … ? Can’t remember …. To Quebec ? The perpetual clock or something? Thanks again to our guide , he was fantastic and easygoing, totally enjoyed it ! We are open to do it again !
Lots of stories about the rarly days of New France, told in a fun lively way by one of the characters who lived through it.
Our 'ghost' storyteller was animated, knowledgeable and interacted well with the group. I'd highly recommend this activity.
Not overly fun or funny. Was expecting more about ghosts, instead of murder and mayhem.. We did not finish the tour
Guide was very nice. However, the tour was in English and the guides command of the language was limited making some of the humor awkward. I did find the history of punishment interesting which seemed more of the focus than true crime.
This evening walking tour was a combination of history, fun and drama. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Our guide Lau also brought members of our group into the stories that she told and everybody had a lot of good laughs. I highly recommend this tour and Lau. There is a lot of walking down into the city near the waterfront so wear comfortable shoes.
What a wonderful tour. The women that did the English tour was amazing. She was funny and engaging and made it wonderful time.
We did the 90 minute walking tour with Valerie and what an amazing night it was! This walking tour was the absolute highlight of our trip. Valerie was incredibly energetic, passionate, and animated from start to finish she brought history to life with theatrical storytelling and amazing humor. The time flew by, and we were hooked the entire way. Book this right now, you wint regret it!
The guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic so it was interesting. I would have preferred less walking and more specific stories about local crime.
It was fun, a different way to walk around the Old Town of Québec, we were laughing, sometimes a little grossed out, looking around at everything imagining it back in the day, and we learned a lot about it all without noticing ourselves getting educated, our teen also loved it, definitely recommend this activity
It entails a lot of walking down hill and then a lot of steps getting back. There should have been a warning. The tour did not really talk about the locations you went to except the first and 2nd to the last.
No need to make customers walk from Upper town and then strand them in Lower town AFTER the funicular closed. So the only option was to take Breakneck stairs (200 foot climb) or Uber back. Also guide would suddenly stop story unexpectedly. Would not recommend.
This is our second time on this tour. We attended last year. The experience was just as entertaining.
Very entertaining and informative, a great adventure into the sordid history of New France and a very active walk through old town Québec! Our guide Leonie was knowledgeable and enthusiastic in telling her tales, we both had a great time!
Excellent tour guide had a great time with our guide very informative and had a great sense of humour
our guide was very entertaining - keeping the audience engaged - i was hoping for more history notes on where we were - not just a story. though still entertaining.
Angie ("Marie") did an absolutely FANTASTIC job taking us on a tour and relaying some of Quebec City's fascinating historic crimes. Her stories and facts were told in an extremely engaging manner and she was very knowledgeable, answering a multitude of questions from the group. It was honestly my favourite part of our Quebec trip and I can't recommend enough!!
It contains grisly details of Old France, not likely appropriate for the squeamish. The host was very theatrical and played the part very well. There was a fair bit of walking up and down hills, some might be challenged by that
It's fun, lots of good historical info. Mary was fun and very tasteful in her descriptions. Some slightly challenging walking areas. Rain didn't help.
The guide was very animated, but the tour was less engaging and interactive than we anticipated. We knew there was a lot of walking, but didn’t realize it was at quite a good pace which wasn’t a good fit for my 71 year old mother. It would have been great to have two guides for the group, one leading and one walking at the back of the group to ensure everyone stayed together. Some of the commentary on crimes was rather gruesome and descriptive, which can be upsetting to guests who are sensitive to that and didn’t expect the level of detail. This should be mentioned in the description when purchasing tickets as could be upsetting to some children as well. Meetup was slightly confusing as we arrived early. One group was already started and just leaving the first location 15 mins later when our group started, so we heard the first part twice. There were guests walking over and trying to join along the way as they were also confused on timing thinking they were late with multiple groups underway in the same area. We ended up leaving after the second stop - just not for us, personally.
We had a great time. Despite the light rain, Angie (character name, Mary) kept the group entertained and was very informative. Definitely recommended.
Amazing tour presented by a very animated young storyteller. The stories were interesting and dark which really brought the history of the city alive.
Awesome tour!! Creepy but fun. Guide was funny and informative. Bring cash to tip. Do not recommend for small children.
The tour guide was animated and engaging. But, I saw no point in this being a walking tour. There were stopping points, but they had nothing to do with the story being told.
Very animated- good laughs. Very informative. Also had a lot of audience participation. Presenter kept our attention and made the tour fun.
I was hoping for more of a ghost tour instead of a crime tour. They was my mistake for not understanding the content but I found the stories boring. Then when they wanted to go down to Old Town I left the tour. After a full day of walking I did not want to have to hike back up hundreds of steps at 9:30 at night. Overall I was disappointed with this tour.
This is not a ghost tour! The tour guide is costumed as a ghost. It is a one way walking tour to the lowest level of Quebec City in the dark. At the end participants are left to find their way back to the top.
Wast of time. Abandoned very far from starting point. Could barely understand guide. Would never do this again
It was very entertaining. It is a great deal of walking but it covered areas of the city I did not have a chance to see yet. Well done overview of the history of criminal punishments during British rule in Quebec City. Do not take your children if you do not want them to hear about criminal punishments.
A very fun evening with a charming ghostly guide. You will walk quite a bit and end up in the lower town - we caught the last funicular ride back to upper town. The stories were entertaining and the guide stayed in character throughout. Wear comfortable shoes and get ready for some role playing.
Way too many people to hear and have a good experience Would mot choose a large tour again
I am writing to express my disappointment regarding the Ghost Tour of Old Quebec that I attended with my wife. We booked this tour expecting an engaging and historical experience, but unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations. We joined the tour specifically to learn about the history of Old Quebec and hear authentic haunted tales tied to the area's past. However, our female guide struggled significantly throughout the evening: Communication & Language Barrier: While we understand that English may not have been her first language, her English communication was not clear or cohesive enough to deliver a proper tour. This made it very difficult for our group to follow along. Lack of Focus & Structure: Rather than delivering structured stories about the history and local legends, the guide frequently lost her train of thought, strayed off-topic, and failed to stay on task with her storytelling. Because of these issues, we were unable to enjoy or absorb the historical context and ghost stories we paid to hear. We appreciate that guiding tours in a second language is challenging, but given the reputation and cost of the tour, we expected a higher standard of delivery and historical narrative. We were going to do another one of your tours in Montreal when we get there but we are going to pass. We hope you will address this feedback with your team. Keith
This tour was so much fun. I've spent a fair amount of time in Quebec City, but I've never experienced it this way before. We were met by our guide, in full costume and character, and were treated to stories of notable crimes in New France and the punishments criminals have faced over the city's history. Our guide was so animated, he especially made sure the kids on the tour were engaged, and really brought the stories to life. The fact that it happened to be a dark and stormy night when we did the tour only added to the experience. Do yourself a favour and book this tour!
It was amazing!!!! The interaction between the tour guide and all the guests was incredible. You will learn a lot of history, laugh, and just have fun. I would definitely do this again. Thank you Deb
Fun and entertaining. The guides dress as ghosts (no skimping on the makeup or costume), and guide the tour completely in character, acting as an early settler in Quebec City.
This was a lot of fun! Very humorous while describing the morbid side of history. Just be warned, it’s a lot of walking! We took an Uber back to our car afterwards 😅
This was a nice tour with a slightly larger group. Appreciate the production value of the make-up and outfits. Stories of executions and torture are always a hit in our household. All done with good humor.
The experience is very interesting as well as fun and invigorating! We saw areas of the city we would have never seen otherwise. Our guide was a comic genius and gave a gold standard tour all the way!
Had such a great time with John as our guide! Loved the humor and interesting facts he shared about Quebec’s dark history. Loved the act he kept all tour long. Highly recommend!!!
Great experience for couples & families! Wonderful guide & memorable storytelling! Would highly recommend to anyone in the area!
The guide was very entertaining and informative. The stories were interesting and she did a wonderful job of staying in character.
This was an amazing and fun evening. We loved Louis as the Executioner "Jean Rattier" and the other actors that jumped out from behind trees and buildings to scare us. The stories were true and very gruesome what a time to live in those days. From Australia we had no idea of the history of this fabulous city. I would highly recommend this tour so much fun, humour and excellent performers. Excellent Value
Was a great experience. Our guide was knowledgeable and lots of fun. Also was a great way to see they area.
This tour was great! Our tour guide (Jean Jacques) was very entertaining. He did a great job engaging with all ages on the tour. Fun family friendly activity to do in Quebec City.
