I Have fished twice with Big Marlin Charters and both times have been excellent. This year Captain Willie and mate Hector were great to converse with, put us on mahi for our dinner at Cielo( excellent by the way). Can’t wait to go back! I hope this is the right one we booked through Sandra, local coordinator of XPO Tours Dominican Republic. From start to finish she was very responsive for a few last questions we had and all went wonderful smooth. Private pickup from our villa in Cocotal, just a 5 minutes ride to the boat and we could even take one extra person. The boat, equipment and crew was just fantastic and they managed to have our catch prepared at the beach restaurant upon our return. Thanks Sandra, Carlitos and the whole crew.

I recently had 2nr 9hr Charters with Big Marlin (Nov 2025). The first was on "Gone Dog" and the Second was on "Cana". Had Great Fishing on Both Days with the Crews being very knowledgeable and attentive. You can tell that catching fish is their passion. Caught my first ever Sailfish and my PB Mahi Mahi. If your in Punta Cana and want a good days fishing at very reasonable price I cannot recommend these guys enough. From booking, to transfers, to fishing all went smoothly and communication was excellent.

Very capable and willing to go the distance to get the bites . All fishing is hit or miss no blue Marlin but lots of mahi mahi. Worth the trip.

Great crew, they recommended Dramamine be taken one hour before and after about an hour into it we asked them to turn around due two our two girls were pulking off the side of the boat. Trsnsportstion was arranged for us and we were takem back to our resort Not the crew's fault at all!

Paid for 5 hours fishing or 4 hours fishing and 1 hour snorkeling. We told them up front if we felt fine we didn't want to snorkel and just fish. They didn't ask us what we wanted to do and just headed back after barely 3 hours fishing. So we were at the snorkeling spot 2+ hours before our trip was over. Snorkeling was not that great and gear was mediocre at best. I hear there are better places to go fishing out of.

Not a good fishing trip. I’ve been on many international fishing charters and this was probably the worst. While we didn’t catch much fish, the crew didn’t change tactics or bait. Additionally, there was not an offer to process the fish for us to take home. We actually had a 9hr trip scheduled for two days later and we cancelled. Most certainly don’t recommend.

The trip was for my wife and I. It was a 4 hour fishing trip. Time to be 8:00 to 12:00. We were told to be there by 7:45 and someone would take us to our boat. We were also asked if we needed an English or Spanish speaking mate. We said English. We were there a little early and were told that someone would come and open the gate at 8:00. Other people started to arrive while we were waiting. When we met our mate, he could speak very little English, but not much. We were the last one to get onto our boat, which was about 8:35. I am not a top flight tournament fisherman, but I have owned a boat and fished the North East US canyons for 40 years. My wife has not fished offshore with us at home because of the long days involved. I wanted this 4 hour trip for her to catch a billfish or mahi. The trip was pretty much going straight out, turning around and coming straight back in. At one point I tried to point out to the mate that one of the flat lines was missing the bait. He could not understand what I was saying. After about ten minutes I gave up. After about fifteen minutes he finally brought the line in to check it and saw that there was nothing on it. In all fairness we did catch 3 small barracuda. On the way back in we did have one strong bite that did not come tight. You would think that the captain would circle that area a couple of times, but no, we just kept heading straight in and even picked up speed. The mate never checked the line to see if the bait had been bitten. When he finally cleared the rods, it was clear one line had been bitten. We ended up being the first ones back at 11:55. So we were only on the boat for 3hours and 20 minutes. If you are looking to just get out on the water and maybe get lucky and catch a sailfish, then this trip would be ok.

Really enjoyed this trip from Hotel pick up by Kristina ,through to being met by Yousef Big Marlin charters along with first mate Daniel and Gone dog staff , big shout out to first mate Daniel for tying endless baiting rigs along with several different techniques, sadly no Marlin or Sailfish. Big shout out to the Captain ( name ? ) who was extremely professional navigating through choppy waters, will defo use these again .

Great , professional Company and crew!! Although, not catching it was definitely not due to lack of effort!! Went on “Blue Sky”. 6 hours. W/ Cpt. Francis and 1st Mate Andy. Great crew!! Got picked up by them in lobby of hotel in Cap Cana. Max great driver. Nice clean ice cold AC van. Seemless. Met right at beach by 1st mate Andy. Explained boats are on moorings because there is no Marina there. Got on taxi boat 1 min to boat. Very smooth. Once on Andy went through every detail not a question needed to be asked. Headed out about 20-30 mins. Lines in the water. Caught a couple small ones. Dorado, Barracuda. Got a couple rockets out of the water taking a jab at the bait. Missed. Again, not due to lack of trying. Will definitely keep their info for next time we are back. Highly recommend!!

I didn't actually go on this excursion. It was a Christmas present for my son, daughter inlaw & grandson. They said the crew couldn't have been more high energy, friendly and helpful. They caught 3 Barracudas and 1 mahi-mahi. They were picked up and dropped off at the resort All on time and all went well.

We had a lot of fun! Rosario was super cool and so very nice. I recommend them 100%. There might be slow times In between but lots of excitement when try to reel a catch in.

My husband and I attended this charter on our honeymoon, and we would highly recommend. Yustace made sure we got there and back to our resort safely, and our captain and first mate Coco and Rosario were just incredible! We caught a wahoo, mahi mahi, and a barracuda, and Rosario helped us take the mahi to a beachside restaurant where we enjoyed our catch for lunch.

My family and I had an amazing time. Transportation was on time. The van was clean. All the staff were friendly. The captain and first mate were awesome. We caught some huge fish… a four foot mahi! Highly recommend

I'd like to thank Captain Mike and his deckhand Calvin for an experience I'll never forget. We had a group of guys, but the crew managed to turn us into real team! Captain put the guys on the fish. Jacob is a hard working first mate. He kept the hooks baited and never stopped moving. Amazing catch!

Best crew made a memorable day despite rough seas. Had 2 fish on at once, unreal!! Everyone was prompt, professional, and courteous. Can’t recommend them enough!!

Communication was great from when my booking was made several months ago up until the actual fishing trip itself. The company was very accommodating and when there was an issue with the boat that we had booked, they offered to take us out later in the day on the Sherlock II. We caught over 20 fish and the captain Victor and First Mate Javier made the trip very enjoyable. We had some of the Mahi Mahi prepared at the restaurant on the beach and it was delicious.

Today we had a fishing trip with Richard and Calvin. From the first enquiry to the booking the response was first class efficient and helpful. We were picked up at our hotel on time and seamlessly chauffeured to the beach front and to the boat. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip and Calvin worked very hard to ensure we had the best experience possible both in hospitality and best possible catch. In 4hrs we caught 5 fish. Always ensuring the lines are clean and working correctly. After the trip Calvin made sure our chauffeur was there in time and didn’t leave until we were on our way. I look forward to my return trip in the future. Anyone wishing to book a fishing charter whilst in Punta Cana would be in great hands with this company. I can strongly recommend.

I would give 5 star if I had luck in catching fish. The ride itself was memorable and amazing. The staff are professional. We did fishing and yacht party :)

So we booked a trip with big marlin charters and our captain was Martin or at least that’s what he said his name is lol. We booked the 6 hour deep sea fishing and everything was fine and fun at least fishing wise. While fishing we saw some whales and dolphins which was pretty and caught a couple mahi mahi and barracuda which wasn’t very impressive at all. Since we had luckily caught fish our captain named Martin said that there was a restaurant back at the beach of where the boat is parked. He also mentioned that we would ONLY BE CHARGED 10 DOLLARS PER PERSON to have the fish cleaned,cooked, and nicely prepared. The fish itself and the food was absolutely outstanding but the worst is yet to come. After we where done eating, Martin our captain had asked for the left overs instead of us taking them with us. So since it was a fun day out of the water we just gave it to him as he said that he would share the left overs with some other friends for dinner. But thats not it when we got back to beach after the day he asked us to make sure we tip him which is extremely disrespectful and we found almost offensive for someone to say as we always tip especially on vacations. Then again after we had finished eating at the restaurant he had again said to make sure we tip at least 10 dollars. So we did like we always do. We put 40 dollars in the check book 30 dollars for the three people meal that he said was 10 dollars per person and a 10 dollar tip. After he saw we had put the money down on the table he quickly said his good byes took the left over foods and left not to go eat with his “Friends” but to go eat on his own at his house. After we had gotten up to leave and started walking towards the taxi a restaurant worker ran up to us and loudly said come back or we are calling the police. We at this point extremely confused go back to the restaurant. The restaurant lady says it’s 80 dollars not 30 dollars. we said to them that our captain “Martin” said multiple times and promised us that it would be 10 dollars per person so the three of us being 30 dollars. After about a half hour of time wasted arguing with the owner and workers of the restaurant we say that it is martins problem and not our problem and are able to get into the taxi and leave. At this point we had already understood that Martin had scammed us out for food from the restaurant and lied to us about the prices. A couple of other things that Martin had told us on the boat that was also quite obviously bs was that he was a dj in Switzerland for 15 years yet he couldn’t talk any German which is Switzerland’s main language. His daughters name also changed 3 times while we were fishing lol. And his sister had apparently lived 30 years in Switzerland. Martin our captain whoever he was is a pure liar and scammer against people visiting his beautiful country. Even after tipping him 50 dollars cash for the fishing he still continued to scam us for food. Please whatever you do do not book a trip with this charter as it will probably ruin your trip just how it ruined ours. We have been to Dominican Republic 6 times and have never ever had a bad experience until this last time. Hope this helps .

This charter fishing trip was amazing. We had so much fun. The Captain did an excellent job getting on to the fish and the first mate kept us motivated and our spirits high waiting for that first fish. I highly recommend them. It was awesome.

We rented a 4 hour fishing charter from Big Marlin charters and had a fantastic time. Capitan Willie and first mate Eddie were great. It was a little rough water so fishing was tough but Eddie kept changing bait and colours to give us the best chance of catching something. We were not skunked and caught a 15 lb Wahoo which put up a pretty good fight. Thanks to big marlin for a great first time experience.

Wow...what a trip. We booked this because of all of the wonderful reviews and it was amazing. We had Eddy and Wily on our boat. They used live bait, checked it constantly and made the trip amazing. We caught two mahi mahi and they gave us a filet that we took back to our hotel to have cooked. It was absolutely amazing and well worth it! 5 stars to them!

It was amazing how well Yustas managed all the lines., Keeping fresh bait ready at every step. Just watching him conduct all this himself was an extraordinary show. 9 giant Dorado and a Baracuda one after the other. Big Marlin Charters is world class crew. So amazing!

Just want to say thanks to the crews of Fortuna and Sherlock II, we had 12 people between the two boats for a deep sea all day fishing trip, we had a great time and caught lots of fish. Special thanks to Captain Yustas we had to cancel our trip for 2020 because of COVID and reschedule for 2021. Yustas was always quick to respond to my emails and allowed us to transfer our deposits to our new dates no questions asked. Thanks for working with us over the past year and a half to make this trip happen. Nathan

Fantastic day on the water aboard Gone Dog with Capt. Yustas' professional crew. Our Mate and Captain were right on-time, and accommodated our early departure request so we could get a solid 4-hours of fishing in prior to our flight back to the US the same day. The boat is probably ~ 10-15 years old, but it looks brand new. The crew keep her in tip-top shape, and it is very comfortable for 4 on reels (we only had 2). Our Mate kept us stocked on some very nice German beers (a nice break from a few days of Presidente!) and lots of water while we hunted for the big fish. The boat handled 4 - 6' swells with no problem, so no need to worry about getting sea-sick on her. Our Mate worked the lines non-stop. The Captain tried a few different areas for 20-mins or so at a time, and then would move on. I really liked their "hunger" to put un on the fish, never giving up and just doing nothing. Alas, the fishing gods were not aligned with us on this day, and we walked away with one decent-sized Dorado (Mahi-mahi / dolphin), which the Mate delivered to a local beach restaurant for us to eat that day for lunch (served nicely with some rice and beans; very tasty!) We had one small issue due to a mis-communication prior to our charter, which I raised to the Mate prior to our departure. He wasn't in a position to do anything about it, so my friend and I just said, "Oh well, let's enjoy the day." The Mate was concerned though, and communicated back to Capt. Yustas, who found us on the beach hours after our charter and expressed his sincere apologies for the miscommunication and made it right. You can tell service and meeting expectations mean the world to him, not just taking your money and never seeing you again (I've had plenty of these types of charters). Gracias, Capt. Yustas, for a great day!

We both got seasick, but also both caught Mahi. Our first mate was funny, knowledgeable, super hard working, and very understanding and helpful when we got seasick. Even though we went in January and the fishing was just ok we will definitely be booking with them again when in Punta Cana

Very affordable and professional services that they provide. They take you to some really good spots and if you are lucky will end up leaving with three Mahi Mahi! No marlin but it's fishing...The boat Gone Dog was perfect clean and comfy. Highly recommend Deep Sea with Big Marlin Charters. The captain Cocote and deck hand Yuriy are first class!. I booked a trip sight unseen based on the high ratings on TripAdvisor. This was a mistake. First off, when I showed up, the owner had no confidence that we’d catch anything. Secondly, he is a Ukrainian who moved to the Dominican. I realized I was in trouble right away trying to fish the Caribbean with Eastern Europeans. Further, I wanted a six hour trip and he decided on a four hour trip. I am glad he saved me the extra money! The fishing: Gone Dog could barely create a wake to attempt to troll the waters. The “cold” drinks were in a warm cooler with no ice, and the free lunch was never served. My first mate was a Ukrainian who’d been fishing for 5 years. Just not a good experience, caught a few barracuda. I know that you’re not always guaranteed fish (that’s why it’s fishing), but these guys are just trying to make their $ and call it a day. The funniest part of the whole thing was the owner explaining that he can’t wait for Blue Marlin season in October. Well, it is currently peak blue marlin season (August) in Punta Cana. I went with another charter (Tease Me) the following weekend, and the experience was night and day. All first class from Captain to the mates. We actually got Big Marlin on that trip, and we did catch and release because keeping the ocean full of blues is more important than taking a picture of a dead blue marlin laying on your boat. If you’re going to PC, don’t go the budget route. It’s worth a little extra $ to go with people who know what they’re doing.

Nice boat. Really comfortable salon and fly bridge. Ample sized cockpit with a small fighting chair. Captain Miguel and May Vladimir were knowledgeable and friendly and put us on some fish. Great time. Great boat.

Everything was excellent. Pick up from our hotel was early and very efficient. The fishing boat was in excellent shape. The captain and first mate were efficient and knowledgeable. Drinks and lunch where provided by the boat. We caught over 5 Mahi mahi. 100 hundred pounds. It was a five star outing I highly recommend this trip. $600. Gave a $40 tip. The owner met us afterward to ask how the trip went.

Had an amazing day out on Gone Dog. the day did start slow with catching 3 barracuda. Then we hooked the Marlin!!! Catain and crew were amazing and the pick up from our resort was smooth as with the drop off. Snacks and drinks on the boat were good and would love to do this fishing trip again. Nightly reccomend this company!!!

Incredible time fishing with my two boys (4&5). Fished on Gone Dog and had an exceptional day of catching Mahi Mahi. Captain (Richard) and mate (Vladimir) were accommodating and first class along with being on top of their game and knowledgeable. Boat had nice rigs and tackle. As an avid offshore fisherman I would 100% recommend Big Marlin Charters. I will be back next year for a couple days. Thank you for a phenomenal day! Chris

We did 9 hours of deep sea fishing with the Cana boat. We had a great time and it was a fantastic experience. Crew top!!!
