Horseback Riding Along Macao Beach From Punta Cana

You will get to ride horses. You won’t be riding them on the beach. You will get to ride horses on the road, while dodging other buggies driving in the street. Before we got to ride any horses, we received a sales pitch for various magnets and souvenirs at the dropoff point. We then took a detour on the way to the beach for a twenty minute sales pitch for more souvenirs. When we got to the beach, we didn’t get to ride the horses there, instead just waiting at the beach for fifteen minutes before turning around. In this time, five different people approached us to try to sell us more things. On the way home, our driver made us stop at yet another souvenir store. We waited in the parking lot for twenty minutes before half of the van got fed up and took Ubers home. Ultimately this excursion feels like a gauntlet of souvenir stores. You’ll ride horses, but it certainly won’t be on the beach.

This was the worse experience! To start with the driver came over one hour late because he was sent to the wrong hotel. Our reservation was for 6 people, but only 3 horses were there when we arrived. We waited over an hour for them to bring three more horses. The horses looked sickly and malnourished. The horse I got kept trying to eat the branches and push up against the shrub and the Bobwire. I ended up slicing up my leg. We finally got to the beach and I was able to rinse the wound and put some antiseptic. We were promised a ride back and to wait for the owner 1.5 later still never showed up. The two hour excursion turned out to be a whole day. I had to pay my ride back to our hotel. Supposedly the cab was waiting for us and left before we rode back with horses. I talked to Pablo “cab driver” he was only to give us a ride there not a ride back to the hotel so the people of the workers lied to us. Worst experience ever!

Set this excursion up through trip Advisor. Added hotel pick up information prior to the trip. 8am pick up time. We were outside waiting prior to pick up time. Waited 30 minutes and our bellhop called the company. Said driver was already there and no one was outside. Sent a picture of the vehicle, and the background wasn't our hotel. They sent another driver 45 minutes after original pickup time. We were taken to a remote gas station where they had a man on a horse dragging two other horses behind him. We asked where the ranch was, and we were told they always bring the horses to the gas station. When we got close to the horses, we noticed how underweight they were with numerous scars on their body. We were told to get on the horses so we could go. We proceeded to cross a four lane highway and down a gravel road for 15 minutes. We rode to a beach and were there two minutes and told to dismount. For the next 45 minutes we were hounded by vendors or solicitors trying to get you to buy their items. Back on the horse and this time told to get off the horses at a bus stop, where our driver met us to take us back to our hotel. None of this is as described in the description of this excursion. We felt extremely uncomfortable. I would also have filed a complaint for animal cruelty with the condition of these horses. Extremely disappointed in the whole experience.

Our driver Daris was very nice and looked out for us which we appreciated. The horseback riding was fun, it was nice getting to hang out on the beach although we would have liked to ride the horses on the beach more. Our tour guide did a good job of coaching us. Chris took some great pictures of us. Overall great experience. I would recommend.

Joe was amazing. Iv been horse back riding a few times but this was by far one of best experiences. Highly recommended - ask for Joe!

The operator did a mess with my pick up time and I had to go later in the day. The guide was a nice guy, however the organizer not as he was blame me for not answering his message which i initially answered and he confirmed that pick up time and location, which he did not attend. Also, when I arrived on the beach with the horse they were many people bagging for money and also order things at the bar which I didn't ask for. not again with the same operator, however the guy who accompanied me was nice.

Not a great experience. We often go horseback riding but are not pros by any means. We have been enough through the years, and in different countries, to have plenty of comparisons. This was by far the worst of our experiences. The transportation to and from the experience was easy—this was probably the best part. Otherwise, it was a quite uncomfortable ride on horses that looked malnourished, with high pressure sales added in for much of the experience. You should know how to ride horses for this experience. Period. There is no instruction, even on how their horses are trained. You just hop on and go. We rode for about 10-15 minutes before we stopped off for about 30 minutes. What did we encounter? Extremely overpriced drinks, a fast talking American trying to pass off as a local and products I’m pretty sure I could have bought at the local grocery store for a few dollars. And they poured it on thick. We were then rushed off to ride to the beach (the path was FILLED with buggies splashing mud everywhere and people trying to walk). Didn’t seem safe for the horses or us. And the horses were pushed to go fast, so you had better feel comfortable going at more than a walking pace. Once at the beach, we had literally about 2 minutes on the beach with the horses and then were asked to get off, presumably so we could then be sold food or drinks. We were also told me had to write a review of the trip at the beach before we could go—that it was required—and that the guide had to send a picture of the review back to the office before we could go. I refused and told them I would write one later—and was met with resistance and several phone calls before we could continue. So buyer, beware. There is a reason the reviews are what they are. They essentially tell you you have to write a review before you can continue—and you are only about half way so you feel like you might be left if you don’t. I’m not a novice at traveling or to these tactics so I stood my ground but I can see why most people comply. Really disappointing considering we just signed up for horseback riding. We have been to the Dominican multiple times and love the people and culture—and really wish we could have just ridden horses and enjoyed the experience. Oh, and I forgot to mention there is also a photographer along with you, of course so they can sell you pictures, at the end (and he’s not really a photographer so the pictures were NOT good). I take my own pictures along the way so no big deal for us, but just a heads up. Look, I know people are running a business and trying to make money. But for the price ($60/person) and what the experience entailed, this was not worth it at all.

Only three minutes on the beach. Our girls dreams did not come true. Very poor description of this experience, false advertising. We were brought to the ranch, which is basically a store where we were the only 4 with 8 local workers, felt very pressured to buy the products before we could go horseback riding. $75 USD spent then out to the horses. The ride is all on the same road that the Dune buggies and ATVs are driving on as well. In this wet season, there was mostly puddles of rusty water and all of our clothes are ruined from getting splashed. They did not explain what type of clothes to wear. Daris and Joel are good guys, and did their jobs well. Feeling very frustrated at the Owner of Extreme Tours RD!

A very adventurous trip with Wellington! A mix of rain, nature, and the beach made for a very exciting time. We made a stop to try traditional coffee and chocolate which was very nice as well. I highly recommend Wellington as he went above and beyond!
