Tortuga Bay Puntacana Resort & Club

Had the best time ever at Tortuga Bay. Usually when you go to a new country or place you’re always a bit wary because you don’t know your surroundings and I do love to travel. Tortuga Bay thought of everything. From VIP pickup right from the plane, to a car transfer, to charging your golf cart every night for you, it was an escape where you didn’t have to think at all, just relax. With just 13 villas and 30 rooms the place feels intimate and you get to know all the staff in a short time. Alexander, Yocasta, Leony and Valentina were incredibly kind and always ready to help. Every morning we met Leony at breakfast who was always in such a good mood and helped plan our day and dinners. They made our stay easy and extra comfortable. We highly recommend the restaurant Mare. Alcedo, Angel, and Daniela were also very kind and we often saw Daniela and Alcedo at breakfast or lunch. The rooms were very spacious and anywhere that gives you chocolate during turn down service is always a good sign to me. For food, I actually thought the tostones were better in the hotel than at some of the restaurants we went to. It was really such a lovely stay. Everyone was very welcoming and made such a beautiful place feel like home. It wasn’t over the top fancy at all but it was a getaway. It felt like those places if you know you know. It was also lovely to see the only place designed by Oscar de la Renta. The only feedback that scared me on night was the slamming of shutters from possibly the room next door which was empty from the wind in the night. I’m not sure if that can be addressed but it scared me until learning what it was. Thank you so much Tortuga Bay for a wonderful stay. We hope to come back soon.

The staff steals personal belongings! I stayed several nights in April. Unfortunately, someone on the staff, probably the cleaners, rummaged through my bag and stole my credit card, making several purchases with it. I contacted the hotel management and asked them to report it to the police, find and punish the culprits (since it is possible to track the time and place of purchase). I received several vague promises that this would be done. However, when I asked for the details of the police report, two weeks later, I was told to report it myself. So, apparently, nothing was done.

Unfortunately they do not patrol or mind the beachside. Many dogs poop and pee everywhere. One dog chased my mother who is terrified of dogs. We called the concierge for support yet no one arrived. Back at the hotel, they listened okay, but did nothing to help correct it because the same people were there with the same spotted dog the next day— no leash. Smell of piss. Questionable environmental welfare as well as we find dead bees everywhere. Dominican disappointed us. Seemed they were afraid to enforce their own rules about no dogs on beach. Cloudy water too. I don’t recommend.

Tortuga Bay is outstanding! In no small part because of the staff and management - In particular, Thomas, the F&B manager who is kind, thoughtful, and beyond professional, and Yoseuris (JoJo), who is the epitome of DR generosity, positivity, and top notch service. The villas are gorgeous, the grounds are even more gorgeous, and the beach is breathtakingly stunning. There’s nothing better than swimming in warm, Caribbean, turquoise water only to dry off with a cool drink and lunch on a chaise. As part of a larger resort with many restaurant options, Tortuga Bay is a little oasis of calm, peace, and elegance in the midst of options and convenience. Thank you for a most memorable stay.
