About Activity
On this 7-hour tour, you will visit Costa Rica’s Indigenous Reserves and learn about their culture. On the Caribbean side of Costa Rica the tribes of Bribri and Cabécar are the most numerous indigenous populations in the country. These territories cover a large part of hills and deep mountains of Talamanca and although at present, Bribris and Cabécar people speak Spanish, wear western clothing, and participate in regional political and economic life, they emphasize the importance of their culture and traditions. The first community that will be visited is the Kéköldi Indigenous Territory, it is the smaller among the Bribri tribes and it is located at only 15 minutes away from your selected hotel in Puerto Viejo de Limón. Then, you will visit another indigenous family in the Bri-Bri indigenous reserve (20 minutes away from the first visit) where you will learn about the properties and uses of some medicinal plants, as well, the guide will explain you details about cacao’s long history in Costa Rica and its importance in the Bribri indigenous culture. Cacao beans were revered and used in purification rituals and even used as currency in Pre-Columbian times. The Bribri people will show you the ancestral process of preparing the original drink of gods. On the way back to Puerto Viejo, you will visit a beautiful waterfall where you can take photos in a lookout and depending on the wheatear; you will have some leisure time to swim and relax at its the base. Lunch is included in a local restaurant before you return to your selected hotel in Puerto Viejo de Limón.
