Normally I wouldn't be the person choosing seafood, but this trip changed my mind about fish. That was a pretty nice surprise. Bernardo took just two of us on the road tour, with an air conditioned van between stops. This was hands down the nicest van I've ever been in. I enjoyed getting around to different neighborhoods, including Versalles and Pitillal, after doing walking tours earlier in the week. There were six tastings, spread over an outing that lasted until about three in the afternoon. Having so few guests made this feel quite personal. We had the Sprinter van for the two of us as we went between neighborhoods.

We had a wonderful time on this tour. Our guide, Bernardo, drove us to a few different neighborhoods where we sampled delicious, local food and learned about the history of each place we stopped. We appreciated his deep knowledge of food culture and local plant life. Moving around in a nice, air-conditioned van was very pleasant and comfortable - really a genius, weather-resistant way to explore Puerto Vallarta. We were fortunate to be with Bernardo who made the tour very special, best guide ever!

We were coming from the cruise ship and it was easy to get an uber to the office from the port, where we found out that we were the only people booked for the road tour that day. We had a good time in the different neighborhoods, there were 6 stops on the tour including barbacoa, tacos, tamales, and popsicles. There was a celebration going on in one of the neighborhoods so we were able to see some additional sites that day! Returning to the cruise ship was also easy and we had plenty of time.

I’m visiting Puerto Vallarta with life-long friends. We enjoyed the food tour so much. The tacos and treats were DELICIOUS! Joanna was the best tour guide and I would definitely recommend this tour.

This is my third tour with Vallarta Food Tours and it gets better each time! The Vallarta by Road tour was fantastic. My cruise ship was finally there on a day they offered it and I jumped at the chance to do it. The places we went were absolutely amazing and delicious. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and did a fantastic job. I can't wait to be back and take another tour!

Bernardo was absolutely the cherry on the cake for this tour!! We enjoyed the six restaurants on the list, including our last stop for homemade ice cream! Each restaurant included an interesting story told by Bernardo, the origin of the food, how the owner(s) came to be in Puerta Vallarta and introduced us to the “proper” way to eat the delicious food! (In fact, when we asked about how to eat one of the offerings, Bernardo said there is no proper way to eat the food, just enjoy it!) We saw several tortilla factories and came to know how women finally got to vote - all in all a perfect day for us!! Thank you!!!

Bernardo took us to 6 different long-time family owned businesses across the different neighborhoods of PV. All the stops were delicious, from the lamb barbacoa tacos served birria style to the pork belly tacos with chicharron and pickled onions to the homemade sorbet and ice cream. Shrimp tacos served with hibiscus margaritas (drinks other than water are included in the price) were a big hit with all of us. Really fun to see how tortillas are made at an open air tortilleria, and to taste them hot off the flattop - so tender! In the summer heat, it was a pleasure to drive from location to location in a super clean and comfortable air-conditioned van...and Bernardo had a wealth of knowledge about PV's history and neighborhoods. Terrific day!

Wonderful experience. Our guide Bernardo was terrific and very accommodating helping my husband who has a little trouble walking. Loved the variety of tacos. This was not just taco Tuesday in the states. You really get to experience the wide and delicious cuisine of Mexico. Highly recommend. We will do another tour when we return in a few months.

We had a great experience on our trip to Sayulita .Would highly recommend this trip if in the Puerto Vallarta area. Our guide Bernardo was fantastic, very knowledgeable about the area and the different establishments. We have been on several food tours over the years and my wife and I agreed that this was the best one we have ever been on. Great town to visit and even better food.

Wonderful guide and driver! Went to 7 different locations, all family-owned and all were amazing! I am mobility-challenged and doing the tour by road was perfect for me and my family. Joanna was a wonderful guide and really took good care of us. My entire family claimed this was their favorite tour of our 8-day cruise. Excellent overall.

Great tour for the not so mobile I also feel staying cool helps you eat more. There is so much good food to try. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. He knew all the families of the restaurants we visited. The pork place was unreal. Never had any pork belly so yummy and we are from Texas. It’s a relatively new restaurant and we will be back. Great way to try places off the beaten path and where locals eat.

Joana was an absolutely amazing guide. We went to 7 different locations and had incredible food. Our whole group said we would do another tour. 10/10 would recommend.

Four of us took the 2025 award winning food tour and thoroughly enjoyed it. Joann was our most enjoyable guide. History of the city and our 8 food stops made the trip special. Wonderful guide in Bernardo, full of local knowledge and history. The food was fabulous, each a unique spot but the stand-out was definitely the barbacoa taco! Highly recommend this company and this tour.

If you make time for one fun thing in Puerto Vallarta..book a food tour. If you're interested in sampling food that is not from the fancy tourist restaurants you will love this tour! The walking tour or the van tour will show you Mexican food the way its supposed to be!

If you want to find the best hidden gems for food in PV this is the tour for you! We ate like a local and the air conditioned bus was much appreciated in the heat.

Joanna was an amazing tour guide filled with knowledge and beautiful energy. She is passionate about sharing the local culture. We booked a private tour for my group and we had some with vegetarian and gluten free dietary restrictions and she made sure they were accommodated. The food was perfection and definitely showed us spots I would not have been able to find ourselves. The driver Junyor was also very nice and drove very safely all across the city. Make sure to come very hungry! My personal favorites were the goat birria tacos and the Hisbiscus sorbet was the perfect ending.

The food was amazing. The history and information about the area was intriguing. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Met some new people, tried authentic foods, and toured the old town area. Some of the food was so good we went back for more after the tour. Our guide was friendly and engaging. His knowledge about the area, the food and the families who provided the food was extensive. Next time we are in Puerto Vallarta, we will do it again. Good experience and fairly priced.

First of all, my wife, our son and myself would like to thank Miel for being her true self! She was so knowledgeable about the culture, the history, the food and life! She was so enjoyable to listen to and made our experience all the better. Well worth what we paid. Just enough time to sample 6 eateries as we were full by the end of the 4 hours. Very comfortable atmosphere with the air conditioned van and accommodating driver Salvador we believe was his name. Our son had gluten and dairy allergies hence the private tour and personalized experience! Thank you!

I've been on food tours around the world and this is, hands down, my favorite so far. Ask for Joana if you want to have the most educating tour ever! Not only did we see parts of the area we would not have on our own, we got the history of the families who create this amazing food. Joana urged us to dive in to all of the flavors presented to us. She was easy to understand, her voice carries well, she catered to our interests and went out of her way to make this the best experience possible. Be sure to come hungry!! Also bring pesos so you can shop in the non-touristy areas if possible.

Joana provided an exceptional experience for us. She is extremely knowledgeable as she is certified by the Mexican government to conduct tours at any location within Mexico. The food and drinks were fantastic; do not eat breakfast as there is plenty of food to enjoy. The transportation was in a new Mercedes Benz van that was very comfortable. My wife and I took this tour a few years ago and we absolutely loved it. The tour was great and our guide-Joana was wonderful. We traveled back to Puerto Vallarta this year (July 2025) with our daughter and we wanted her to experience this tour. We booked a private tour with a van pick up and drop off at our hotel. There were four of us. Since my husband is having trouble getting around, this was the perfect solution for us. Joana is very knowledgeable and accommodating. We never felt rushed at any of the stops and thoroughly enjoyed our time with her. There was a good variety of tacos as well as a fabulous stop at the bakery. If you’re looking for a Food Tours, these guys are the best. And I’ve been with the other Tour group previously. Absolutely an amazing tour! If you want to experience the best local food, eating at family owned establishments and touring through various neighborhoods of the city, then this is your tour! We rode in an air conditioned van and navigated our way to taster’s delight. Miel was a phenomenal tour guide. Not only was she able to share from her own upbringing and the joy these foods played in her life, but she is also a professional food historian and boy, when I tell you she educated us on the origin of so much food that we all eat, it was amazing!!!

Joana and Vallarta Food tours have ensured that our next visit to P.V. will not be at an all-inclusive hotel! We tried a variety of amazing food in several different types of restaurants in different neighborhoods and learned about the history of the establishments. We also learned how the food is prepared and how very fresh the ingredients are. Joana educated us on many different types of tacos and Puerta Vallarta, and where locals shop. We had some extra time, so she took us to a spice store where she showed us the types of spices and chillies the locals buy. She was highly entertaining, and her explanations were very detailed. Traveling by car allowed us to visit many different places throughout the city and she talked about the different areas. The tour was fun and informative. Not only did we have the best tacos we ever ate, we tried some options that we wouldn’t have tried on our own. We are more comfortable stopping at and ordering from a taco stand than we would have been prior to the tour. Joana was friendly and energetic, and we would highly recommend this tour.

Her breadth of knowledge was impressive. The food was amazing and left us mouth watering for more. The food was wonderful , a great variety with a nice selection of local restaurants. A total of 7 great stops with plenty of delicious food. The road tour allowed us to go to a number of neighborhoods. It was a great way to experience Puerto Vallarta.

This was a wonderful relaxing day. We were in a modern bus and had a great introduction to history and customs of Puerto Vallarta and it's fantastic food. Our only regret is that we ate breakfast that morning because there was a lot of food! We highly recommend this tour

Terrific tastes of several local food items and a great way to see some other PV neighborhoods as well. Joana was the perfect guide as she navigated our small group through the various tastings. The shuttle van between spots provided a much wider coverage area for culinary selections and proved a great solution for some of us older slow pokes. All positive!
