We did the 3:30 tour with Manny and have recommended our family coming in November book the same tour. The restaurant and food selections were perfect. It’s a great variety and you are given alternative choices if something doesn’t appeal to you. The restaurants range from old & established to a couple years new. Manny is an excellent host. Besides learning about the food you eat, you also learn about the area and history. The tour is in the Versalles area which is outside the downtown PV area. At first, I thought I had made a mistake. But it turned out to be a bonus. It got us a little ways out of the touristy area. Each of the hosts at the restaurants were welcoming and Manny shared interesting information about their back stories.
Our walking food tour in the neighborhood of Versalles was great and so filling. Our guide, Roman, did a fantastic job explaining all the different foods and culture that we experienced. He’s a natural at informing us of how they make each dish and where it originated from, since he’s also a chef. We got to try birria, torta, shrimp al pastor taco, barbacoa, and desserts. He was also accommodating and brought us to one of his favorite coffee shops at our request. Overall, it was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a taste of what delicious foods Puerto Vallarta has to offer.
Manny was a great tour guide. We ate so much food and it was all delicious. Highly recommend this tour. You will enjoy the food and have lots of fun
Great tour with great food and education about the history/culture and food. I plan to do the morning tour upon a return trip.
Our guide Roman did a great job of sharing his knowledge and love of the food scene in Versalles. His culinary background and charming personality made for a wonderful afternoon. And the food was amazing.
Manny and Roman are both really great, down to earth guys. Our tour was just our group of four so it felt less like a packaged tour than just visiting friends who took us out for the evening to show us around a really cool neighborhood in their city. We are very familiar with the Zona Romantica and 5th de Deciembre so we chose the Versailles option. All of the stops were great. The food was outstanding. Thanks again, guys for spending so much time with us and a wonderful evening.
Manny was fun! He does ask if there are any food allergies or specific foods to stay away from (I don’t do fish or seafood) We had 5 taco stops and then dessert. I was so full!!!! I couldn’t eat it all (made sure to at least try the meats) but luckily the vendors aren’t disappointed as they know we are on a food tour. But it was all great! If I had to choose…. Hmmm. I think the Birria was amazing! We had chorizo (they made there own tortillas in front of you) we learned what valcanoes were (the food, not nature 🤣) Goat and beef birria. The restaurant is named after the owner’s Tio. The recipes are his uncle’s. Amazing!!! Carnitas. You can choose from all meat, some skin, some rib meat. Each stand also has fresh sauces/salsas and toppings of some sort! Arrachera (and the owner did deliveries before uber eats was ever a thing) saw the owner who made the meats. Super sweet nice man! To see Manny’s interaction with the vendors and seemed to have a good repot with them is fun too. They use blue corn tortillas (homemade) El Rey was the last taco stop. Owned by a man from Oklahoma who smokes his own pork tacos. Definitely had a fusion of Mexico and Oklahoma style bbq. It was beautiful! However this is also a bar and if you TRULY like APPRECIATE tequila, he has a respectful offering of legit tequila, mezcal, sotol and raicilla. Last we stopped to get dessert. There is always room for dessert. I guess you can call them frozen pies. It’s as if some cheesecake and ice cream and something else had a baby. They were perfection on sweet and flavorful! But…if they have Flan, do that too!!!!! Best flan we have ever had in our life!!!!! We did get some laughs in, too. cool dude. I’m going to try to post photos of each stop. We now know a bit about versalles area so we can’t wait to go back!
You can’t get a better tour than this! The guide, Manny, is the absolute best because of his knowledge, his English and over the top personality. The food was amazing and we ate a couple of tacos that we would have normally not ordered in a restaurant. Delicious! We took photos of the places we ate at and will DEFINITELY go back to each and every one of them. Oh, and the last stop was for dessert. Over the top!!!!! Thank you Manny and thanks for the hug at the end of the tour.
Versalles is an amazing neighbourhood! It is teaming with outstanding restaurants frequented by locals and travelers in the know. Our guide Manny was fantastic. He provided in-depth history and cultural insight that made us fall in love with life in this bario. Do yourself a favour and sign-up to do this tour at the beginning of your time in PV so that you can go back to the area and immerse yourself over the remainder of your time in this beautiful place.
We went on the evening tour and it was one of the highlights of our trip! We weren’t happy with the food at the all inclusive resort we were staying at so we decided to go on a food tour. I’m so glad we did! Manny was an awesome guide and led us to so many great restaurants and was good at explaining the food and area on the way. We were stuffed at the end of the tour so go hungry! We even went back to one of the restaurants we visited the next day because the food was so good! Our kids enjoyed the tour and food as well and they aren’t the most adventurous with food. Fun experience! Highly recommend!
The information on the different Mexixan foods and how they are prepared was excellent. The local restaurants we visited gave a great variety of flavours and all were excellent with a plethora of different levels of spiciness. Highly recommend.
Manny was an excellent guide with a real depth of knowledge about the food scene in PV, and a very friendly and personable guy as well. Highly recommended!
Versalles was such a pleasant surprise and is a hidden gem. The foodie tour with Manny was amazing. I couldn’t tell you which spot was my favorite. They were all so unique and the food was decadent. Manny did a fantastic job showcasing every spot. It was a good amount of food and he did a great job filling us up!
Our experience with the Spicy Vallarta Food Tour in the Versalles neighborhood was nothing short of amazing! Manny, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and even sparked my interest in real estate there. The tour included five fantastic foodie stops, each offering unique and delicious dishes. Lamara’s paracas was a standout with its creative twist on ceviche, incorporating elote and peanuts – simply fantastic! Despite the hot and sticky weather, the walking was a welcome way to work off the food. Barbacow was another highlight, especially with their mouth-watering cheese crust. Learning a chimichurri recipe from Hamburg was a delightful surprise – it’s probably the tastiest chimichurri I’ve ever had. We also enjoyed two dessert stops, with Alu Aloo being a unique and unforgettable treat. Manny’s humor and engaging personality made the tour even more enjoyable. Overall, this tour was totally worth it, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Puerto Vallarta. Five stars all around!
This was a great tour. Manny met us on time, and at the assigned location. We visited 6 different and unique eating venues, as we traversed the Versalles neighborhood. Manny was well known at each stop and we were provided with excellent service. He is knowledgeable about the food preparation and presentation , the restaurants of PV, and the history of the area and food. Our tastings included a variety of meat tacos, and shrimp, with different tortillas and toppings, ceviche, refreshing agua frescas at most stops, and an absolutely fabulous dessert. And each stop provided a whole portion, not just a taste. We were extremely happy and full. And at the end, we felt more confident and comfortable ordering our next Mexican meal, whether it be from a street vendor or a fancy restaurant. Manny’s tour is a must!!!!
The tour was fantastic. Manuel and Kevin showed our group of 7 so many hidden gems. They were attentive and informative. We never felt rushed. We were offer more food at each stop. There was even some un planned stops. Manuel walked arm in arm with my 83 year old Mom to make sure she was safe while walking. It was well thought out and worth it. Thanks guys.
I can't say enough about our wonderful experience with Manny & Spicy Vallarta. We toured 5 different Taco options in the Versalles neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta. All of the food was delicious! And Manny shared information & insights about ingredients, recipes, & culture. I would enthusiastically take one of the Spicy Vallarta Taco tours again on another visit to PV! I highly recommend the company, Spicy Vallarta, & our guide, Manny!
Great tour. Manny was an excellent guide and gave us personal attention. The tacos were great and there was an exceptional variety including ceviche. Local places and stands highlighted the experience.
Excellent tour! They cater to all levels of spice, from the bland to the WOW. Great variety of authentic Mexican food!! Highly recommended!
We had never been to the Versalles district before, but we have been on a few food tours in our travels before; Manny was one of the best guides we have ever had the experience of touring with; his knowledge of the local food, culture and this neighborhood was compelling; we learned a lot and at A LOT!; Do this tour on an empty stomach! I'm sure the other guides are good, but do this tour with Manny!
Five interesting eating experiences our guide was very helpful and personal, would recommend to anyone who wants to see and eat in Versailes
The food tour was amazing - Manny took us to places that we would never have found on our own. This is different than a taco tour in the Romantic Zone (which we had already done during a prior visit to PV). Versalles is a restaurant- filled area with lots of great places to eat and far fewer tourists. It was a great way to see the area where the locals live and eat. Highly recommend!
A unique experience! Very fun, the food was delicious! Manuel treated us like family, very kind to everyone! 100 percent recommended!!
