Easy walking tour and a great chance to eat your fill of a variety of authentic Mexican tacos. Memo was so knowledgeable and made sure to include every member of our multi-generation group in his comments. It’s obvious he’s a respected member of the community and knows the restaurants well. We ate at two sit-down places that were busy with local customers and two sidewalk taco stands, also with lots of local customers. Great, fun experience and delicious food!

We did the Vallarta 101 Breakfast and Welcome Walk with Memo. He was a wonderful guide for our family group of 12. We started with breakfast at El Campanario, a charming small restaurant with really good food. Memo gave us a lot of interesting information about the town and its history. He also took us away from the "tourist-y area," up some steep hills and stairs to a largely residential area with great look-out points. He was professional, informative and very engaging. I would definitely recommend him.
Memo was a wonderful guide, the food was excellent, and he was very knowledgeable of the town and it's history.
Memo was a great guide and the food was excellent. Our group was comprised of grandparents, parents and kids aged 8-12. The tour and the walk was easily manageable for everyone.
We did the daytime tour with Memo! It was amazing! Took us away from the tourist area and got the best tacos of my life and best agua frescas. He was knowledgeable about every stop! So glad we did this is the beginning of our trip!
This is a great food tour! We enjoyed walking through the streets of Puerto Vallarta and learning about the city's history and culture as we went from one taco stop to another. The tacos were absolutely delicious, and we had a variety of types of tacos. We also enjoyed the different drinks that we tried, and the ice cream at the end of the tour was outstanding! Memo is a wonderful guide! He is very fun and knowledgeable. We look forward to taking another tour with him when we return to Puerto Vallarta. I recommend booking this trip for the beginning of your stay in Puerto Vallarta so you can return to these wonderful places while you are in town.
No one showed up for our scheduled taco 101 tour. Very disappointing.
Memo (tour guide) is extremely knowledgeable and so so nice. He gave us a great taco tasting experience.
We spent the day on a walking tour with Vallarta 101 (sponsored by the International Friendship Club), and let’s just say "walking" was mostly just a way to make room for more food. We hit five spots—some we’ve walked past for years but never tried. Big mistake! From the breakfast tacos at La Campanario, the Birria and consomé at Chanfay, the carnerias at Canaria to the shrimp at Mariscos Cisneros, everything was 10/10. We even managed to squeeze in paletas from La Michoacana at the end, despite being stuffed to the gills. Pro Tip: If you do this tour, do NOT eat breakfast. Actually, maybe don't eat the night before either. It’s a delicious marathon, and our guide was an absolute pro at herding us through the streets while dropping some amazing local history. Highly recommend for anyone visiting (or living in) PV! 🇲🇽✨
We learned a lot about tacos and enjoyed our day! Memo is full of knowledge and took great care of us. We had a fantastic tour and were stuffed by the end! My only complaint (if that) was our tour was about 3.5 hours rather than two, and we had another activity we had planned so we had to go at the end very quickly. But aside from that, very enjoyable!
Memo was an awesome guide! Very knowledgeable about Puerta Vallerta and food, shopping areas and especially tacos. Easy walking in small area. Highly recommend!
Memo is amazing!! This is our 4th time and each time he introduces us to places we would not try on our own. He is a blessing to PV!!
Great guide, very knowledgeable. Will do his other tours Great food. Great people. Great experience!
Such a great experience! It ended up being only my partner and I on the Taco 101 Daytime Tour (pay as you go) and it felt personable and fun. Memo was a great guide and showed us some amazing spots that we would’ve never tried otherwise! He even went out of his way to show up some local markets. We’re usually not one for food tours because we feel they can be disingenuous if there is a paid partnership between the guide and restaurants BUT this is quite the opposite. Memo knew the owners and chefs of each restaurant and even locals walking by stopped to say hello and chat! Would high recommend and make sure to do this early in your trip so you can return to all the other spots he recommends!
Memo really knows his stuff. We loved the tour and got to taste several delicious tacos and learn about Puerto Vallarta. After this taco tour you will be far less apprehensive about eating at a local taco stand. It was not a difficult walk.
My friend and I had the absolute best time on our Taco101 tour with Memo! From the moment we met him, he made us feel like true friends rather than just tourists. As a local, he knew all the best taco spots, places we never would have found on our own, and every single recommendation was incredible. For real, put your trust in Memo's expertise and you will not be disappointed! Not only was the food amazing, but we also had great conversations along the way, learning about Mexican food culture and chatting about life in general. We loved the experience so much that we booked a Taco102 tour a few days later, and it was just as fantastic. My only regret is that I couldn't eat more. Definitely go hungry. If you're looking for an authentic and delicious food tour, look no further. I cannot wait to return to Puerto Vallarta and do another tour with him! 🌮🔥
Great tour with Memo. Obvious he really enjoys what he does. He took us to an interesting mix of taco places and really encouraged everyone to ask questions. Very interactive and participative with all the guests.
Tacos 101 was my first and definitely not my last food tour. Memo has been doing this for a very long time and it shows! He knew all the best places to take us and really provided a wonderful variety of the tacos that Puerta Vallarta offers. He was professional, funny, interesting and extremely knowledgable not only about his adopted city but the restaurants and food carts we went to. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Memo is the most gracious, generous, warm and knowledgeable tour guide I’ve ever experienced. My partner and I were the only ones who signed up for his afternoon tour, and he gave us his all. He was so hospitable and his love for his city and its food was contagious. Unforgettable and sooooo delicious.
Memo was a great tour guide…leading us through the streets of Puerto Vallarta to some amazing taco stands!! Memo was so informative and explained in great detail about the history of each stand and their specialty taco, which we were able to try. Go hungry…the tacos were amazing, and there’s plenty to eat!! It was nice to finish at a restaurant where we were able to get a refreshing beer with our taco. Highly recommend!!
We did two tours with Memo and had a fantastic time on both! Taco 101 and the welcome walk and talk. Highly recommend Memo and Vallarta 101 to get you oriented in the city and find some amazing places to eat. He knows the area and will adjust your tour to accommodate your groups speed and desires. A real pleasure to have him show us around.
I highly recommend the Taco 101 walking tour from Vallarta 101. Memo was an excellent host. He was on time and met us in the location as advised. He was friendly, very knowledgeable and gracious. He advised us to only eat 1 taco per location and I was glad I did because they were filling. We went to 4 taco locations, a tortilla shop, an ice cream shop, an agua Fresca stand. All the food he showed us was delicious. I enjoyed the history and customs of taco making and consumption that he shared. We ended up revisiting 2 of the locations the next day and going to a stand we walked by but didn’t visit because they were sold out. I had an excellent time and I will definitely do more of Vallarta101’s tours when I come back to Puerto Vallarta.
We had a fantastic tour with Memo. Definitely went places we wouldn’t have tried on our own and now feel confident to go back on our own. Memo was exactly the right amount of friendly and informative. Go early in your trip so you can go back!
The Taco101 tour with Memo was an amazing, informative, and delicious experience that we would recommend to anyone planning a visit to Puerto Vallarta. All the food and drinks are included, with freedom for seconds and thirds, if one serving isn’t enough. (But pace yourself to save room for all the stops along the tour!) At each location, Memo explained the highlighted dish, offered his recommendations, placed the order, paid for the meal, and tipped for the service—allowing us to enjoy the meal without worrying about price or whether we’d be tipping enough. (As American citizens, we think in USD and not MXN pesos). While we could have ordered any taco we wanted, as the tour guide, Memo knew the “best” item on the menu and based his recommendations off of the locations we would be visiting so we’d get a variety of tacos that touched on each staple of the area. This made the process super easy, as we didn’t have to spend any time looking over the menus and were never disappointed with his recommendations. **Booking considerations: Memo said he typically caps the tour sizes to 6-8 people to ensure it feels like a small, intimate experience. We booked this tour during the offseason. For those who are unaware, offseason lasts from June through mid October due to heat, humidity, and rain. Because of this, my husband and I were the only guests on the tour. While some might view this as a negative, we thought it enhanced the experience, giving us a private tour that was more personal and tailored to us. Two of the stops were air conditioned restaurants with indoor seating, a welcomed chance to cool off. The other two taco stands were outdoors. From one traveler to another, you have to go to the outdoor stands..Despite the heat and humidity, going in the off-season to increase the likelihood of a “private” tour was completely worth it. Just note to wear light, breathable clothes and be prepared to sweat if there’s no breeze. This tour is a must—so if climate is of concern, don’t forego the tour, just plan to visit during the cooler months instead. ** Dietary considerations: I am gluten intolerant. At the beginning of the tour while chatting with Memo, I disclosed my gluten allergy. Like magic, Memo immediately re-structured the tour locations, eliminating one taco stand due to their flour tortillas and substituted it with another stand he knew was 100% corn. For someone who has to constantly check and recheck with service staff at restaurants for gluten content, it was nice to have that concern removed and trust Memo’s guidance for a completely gluten-free experience. We 100% recommend this taco tour with Vallarta101 and look forward to experiencing the other tours they offer on future Puerto Vallarta trips.
We have been to taco tours in other areas of Mexico, but Vallarta 101 by far was the best. Memo was our giude who was very knowledgeable and passionate about the culture, the community he lives in, and the food! We learned so much and had some of the best tacos! And this is just the day time tacos, there are night time tacos, sea food tacos, veggies tacos that we will have to come back for Memos other classes, working towards a diploma! This is a must if you are in PV and want real food!! It's definitely the highlight of our family trip this year!
Memo is a great tour guide. Very knowledgeable and friendly. He took us to places we would have never found on our own and the tacos were outstanding! We also ventured into areas we never would have gone as tourists and we got to discover authentic Mexico. Worth every penny!
Memo was a fantastic tour guide around the city and knew all the spots to find delicious tacos. We had a ton of fun walking around the city and he had plenty of tips for where to go for the rest oh our trip. Highly recommend! Make sure to show up hungry!
Memo was an amazing guide. He spoke great english and was very knowledgeable about the city! It wasn’t just about the tacos. As for the tacos they all were amazing! We went to 4 different taco stands off the beaten path away from all the main tourist area. I would highly recommend tour! So good!
The tour was great. Memo took me to all the best spots to eat tacos. He was very knowledgeable of the best spots to eat tacos and all the tacos were amazing. Anyone taking this tour you will not be disappointed at all. When I return I will definitely take this tour again.
Memo took us on this very memorable, Tacos 101 tour/experience. He was warm, knowledgeable, and flexible. As we were walking from the meeting place on the square we asked about the cathedral near there. Even though it was not a part of the tour he took us there and explained its history and significance as well as the adjoining neighborhoods. And then there were the tacos .... Each location was better than the one before it. The smoked marlin tacos were a feast. We would definitely do this again.
Memo was a spectacular tour guide on this tour. He made us feel at home while showing us his home. We left STUFFED eating every kind of taco you could think of. If you remember nothing else remember, get the smoked Marlin taco, I still dream about it! It was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon
Manuel was wonderful. He knew the area and was flexible. When we saw something that we wanted to explore a little he allowed us to do so and explained it’s significance. And the core of Tacos 101 - the different types of tacos and taco stands introduced us to ones that we have never tasted before. Manuel explained the differences and the history behind them. Such a great experience!!
Memo was a fantastic guide! He took us to the best local, family owned stands, which was exactly what we wanted. They were all great, but the Birria tacos were next level! We just wished we had room to eat more! The tortillas fresh and hot off the conveyor were an extra treat. Great tour!
Best tacos and Memo was fantastic we learned a lot about the families and their business. Each taco was so delicious, Memo does a great job explaining everything. This was our 3x with Memo love sharing the tour with friends.
We loved everything about our tour! Our guide Mamo is brilliant and insightful - explaining the cultural and political significance of tortillas, tacos, and all the ingredients. Be sure to take his recommendations... he won't steer you wrong!
We did the free your... What an excellent day spent learning about the best tacos, some of the buildings and tips for places to go after the tour ended. Tip for the tour guide and money needed for tacos at around $20-50pasos. Would highly recommend.
Memo was amazing! I would highly recommend him. We had a senior that walked slower, and he accommodated. He has lived here for 17 years. It was incredible. We went to 6 places. We did the pay what you want tour and just pay for your food. This was perfect for our group of 7.
We have been coming to Puerto Vallarta for over 10 years and have never done a taco tour. It was such a fun morning. We learned so much and Memo was so informative. He was so informative and made the morning fly by. He also gave us great tips for the test of our vacation. We definitely recommend that you do this tour. We will definitely do another one next year.
Memo was an excellent guide! It was like talking with a friends who was sharing his favorite hot spots! Lot of amazing street food exploring the cobblestone streets of PV. Nice detour from the resort!
Our Taco Tour guide Memo was awesome! He lives in Puerto Vallarta and eats regularly at the taco places he took us to. We visited 3 different places where the locals eat and had some amazing tacos! Memo shared a lot of interesting things about tacos and how they’re a staple at most meals. He has a friendly personality and also shared a lot about the city itself. Highly recommend the tour esp if you have interest in the local culture
We had such a fun afternoon exploring and immersing ourselves in the taco history and culture in PV. Memo was the consummate tour guide, providing the history of each taco establishment as well as recommendations of what to eat and then how to eat it. As a Texan I thought I knew my way around a taco, but without giving away any big tour spoilers, let's just say that Memo gently schooled us and we are the better for taking this tour! :) If you are a fellow foodie, don't hesitate - do this tour! We wish we would have had time to do some of the other tours offered by Vallarta101, they will be top on the list for next time we travel to the PV area.
It was all good. The seafood tacos were fabulous. The ambiance walking through the Zona Romantica was perfect.
What a wonderful authentic experience. Our guide was personable and knowledgeable, the tacos were exceptional, and the sights along the way were memorable!
Our guide Memo introduced us to some great taco stands and lots of useful information about Puerto Vallarta itself.A fun and informative way to spend a couple hours discoving the taco scene. We took the tour on our first day as we were here for a week and it really helped us to get around, highly recommended.
Our tour guide, Memo was super friendly and awesome. He made us feel so comfortable it was like we were hanging out with a friend walking around eating tacos. He was really down to earth and explained a lot and even took us to a tortilla factory which was really interesting to learn about. Memo even convinced my husband to try a Mahi Mahi taco which he did and enjoyed the entire thing. We have been back so far to 2 out of 4 of the taco stands and will be heading back to the fish taco cart in the next two days. Definitely worth doing the tour so you can be informed of places you never would have tried on your own.
Please do this tour! Great tacos that I would have never found or tried on my own. Memo is such a great, informative guide and you will learn SOOOO MUCH about the food and culture in PV. I had my three teens with me the first time and they enjoyed themselves as well. I had such a good time that I returned a month later with my partner & we did the Taco102. You pay for all you eat/drink and tip your guide a fair amount at the end. Such an amazing value and an unforgettable experience. We met some great fellow tourists as well. I will definitely be back for Taco103!
Memo’s your was an absolute highlight. Every spot was so delicious and we never would have found them on our own. I’d definitely recommend this to anyone visiting.
We had such a wonderful afternoon with Memo learning about local specialties and favorite places to eat. Teenage boys and their moms enjoyed a fun outing together where we tried all sorts of amazing stuff! Street stands and locals family restaurants were on tap with some of the most best tasting food any of us have ever had! Memo was great about educating us on the different areas of Puerto Vallarta plus much about the culture and vibe. We were stuffed by the end but didn't want it to end. We will be back for Taco 201 and Taco 301 and Taco 401 . . . you get the point. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to an adventure in town!
Memo was a joy as our tour guide! He was very informative and made sure all 7 of us was nice and full. Very friendly and great people skills. Wasn't a dull moment during the tour at all. When I'm back in Puerto Vallarta,I'm definitely booking his other tours. I highly recommend him and this tour!
Memo was an excellent guide and gave us a fantastic tour to 4 amazing local taco stands. Loved it and would do it again!!!
