The town of San Sebastián is torn up with construction which was not mentioned. Our tour was listed as an 8 am pick up and my ticket said 8 but they arrived at 9:45. Our tour guide was funny and nice but difficult to understand. We did enjoy the lunch and the loom demonstration. Also the return trip was way too long with drop offs far north. Be prepared to spend more time in the cramped van.

Booked with the resort. San Sebastian is beautiful town rich in history. The food was amazing. It just felt as if we traveled 1.5 hours for a shopping trip. That was not the description of the tour. We received the history of the town while driving there & a bit more while there. Once there we were delivered to an opal jewelry store, a vendor selling obsidian, the local coffee hacienda and a restaurant. The tour of the coffee hacienda could have been more thorough as it is so rich in history. Very interesting! We did purchase coffee. The opal jewelry store has beautiful jewelry but it would have been better to have the option of visiting. The vendor selling obsidian had some amazing pieces but again we would have preferred to explore the town & stop at our pleasure. The restaurant/hacienda was fabulous. The people, atmosphere & food were amazing!! I do recommend visiting but be prepared for the pressure to shop.
The best experience! It’s was fun and educational! Love our tour guide! He was patient with us! I would highly recommend that tour!
Very nice tour to be able to see the real Mexico! Our tour guide Sophie and the driver (forgot his name) were wonderful. The driving up the canyon was very stable and smooth even the road was curvy and uneven. Sophie was very caring just like the Mexican mom! Great history and we learned a lot!
They do NOT communicate well! Ruined my anniversary. I have traveled internationally - Europe and Mexico - and understood what was expected of me better than Viator or Greyhound. I booked for 10am at pickup location and arrive at 945a only to find out a secure message was sent while on vacation in another country that we needed to be there at 925am. Can't believe this company is so shady and not good at communication to make sure we got this communication to be there 35 minutes beforehand. So disappointed!
The provider did not show up or contact me and at the stated time on the ticket. They then attempted to say they showed up earlier than the time on the ticket, it didn’t bother to call or txt me.
We went with friends Our guide Franco and driver Arturo were excellent so knowledgeable pleasant and Professional We had a wonderful time And I would recommend this review to everybody
I called to see if I could be picked up closer to where I was staying and was told no. Took a 40 minute, $15 uber and was told I could have been picked up closer so it was alot of transit for a pleasant enough but not amazing trip
An interesting day. For me the highlight was the meal at Lupita’s and wandering around the town. Hector explained the history of the place well and Victor drove us safely up the mountain and back. I would have liked to stop at the chocolate factory that I found out about later, but more people are likely interested in the tequila tasting which was okay. It was great to see a different aspect of Mexico.
Enjoyed the tour. The restaurant was excellent and we liked the coffee stop and tequila tasting was great. Cesar did a great job telling us about the area and history.
This was a great tour! Danny was our guide along with his uncle, the driver, as a side kick for added humour. On the drive to San Sebastián, Danny gave a great account of the history. Danny was informative and easy to listen to. We stopped at the cutest café to break up the journey. We had several stops, coffee farm, Agave plantation, Sans Sabastian to which Danny gave the history of each. This tour was a nice get away from the stress of the city. The food at the restaurant was some of the best food we had our entire trip! There was a tequila tasting. A special treat was a pick up of Jack fruit at a road side stop. The fruit was cut and prepared, ready to taste. I recommend this tour for adults.
Viator misled me about hotel pickup so I had ro travel 30 minutes to Bucerias for pickup which cost an additional $850MX. This tour does not pick up anywhere north of Bucerias. Tour itself and tour guide was fantastic.
The San Sebastian del Oeste is an excellent excursion. Well with the money. I learned so much about the local culture and history. Our guides Danny and Fernando were very knowledgeable, humorous and friendly. I strongly recommend this trip.
Very underwhelmed - San Sebastián is a bust, coffee stop is basically a store front. The tequila stop was good but nothing special. The place for lunch was just for tours and are the staff are not friendly at all. The best part was our tour guide Hector - very knowledgeable and passionate about the area.
The most memorable part was the very long trip. It was 2 hours each way! The tequila tasting was great, the coffee hacienda okay, and the meal was delicious. Our time in San Sebastian was pleasant. It's a clean, quiet town in a beautiful location. Our guide was wonderful and knowledgeable.
Our tour guide’s name was Chema. He totally gave us a wonderfully fun and memorable experience! His history knowledge was phenomenal! His personality was so fun and he really seemed to enjoy being a tour guide. The town of San Sebastián has a very interesting story. The coffee and tequila tasting/learning was great too. We bought coffee and a couple bottles of tequila. We have to say the lunch we had was beyond our expectations! It was very good! We also very much enjoyed stopping at the bakery! We very much enjoyed the whole experience!
Would like to have had coffee tasting at the coffee stop and share a little bit more about the family at the coffee shop , the drive was long. Needed more information about the town when you’re at the town possibly a guy there.
Visited San Sebastián, visited Alan and Ausel at the art gallery and peanut brittle factory. All handmade by Alan and Ausel, the candy is so delicious. Outstanding kitchen and very nice people.
San Sebastián is a beautiful town but there are many dogs. I was attacked by 4 dogs and bit by one. Despite numerous attempts at contacting the city/town officials via phone or email no one has replied to me. I even have a photo of where the dogs came from. I wouldn’t recommend touring this town without appropriate vaccinations.
Puerto vallarta is a wonderful city! Very safe and beautiful. The trip to san sebastian was for sure magical! The tour guide was great and the experience unforgetable: 100% recommend it.
Monica from Gray Line was amazing to work with to book the tours with. Highly recommend her when booking! We were picked up early at our hotel by Hector and Raul. They were amazing tour guides. We learned more about the culture than we ever could. We highly recommend having them as your tour guides. The tequila factory and lunch were delicous. San Sebastian has the cutest quaint shops! We bought our daughters the most adorable trinkets and myself a woven shawl handmade in that very shop. If you are on the fence about going, don't think just go! You'll enjoy it!
Caesar was a wonderful guide, explaining so much about mexican culture and history on our way to San Sébastien. The village itself was amazing-quaint shops and well preserved architecture. The included lunch was plentiful and delicious. The best "tour"lunch I have ever had. I highly recommend this tour.
Took this tour approximately 2 weeks ago. The ride up to San Sebastian was very pleasant, & visiting the tequila place was interesting. I found walking around San Sebastian to be quite boring. The roads are old cobblestones, & very narrow. There isn't much to see as far as I'm concerned. Lunch was in a restaurant there, but I hardly ate anything. Social distancing at our table was non-existent, which rubbed me the wrong way. Shortly after lunch, we visited what our guide called a "bakery". He knew the owner. I will share this, & I'm telling the honest truth...it was a FILTHY place. If this was operating here in Canada, it would be shut down. Don't go there. I will not recommend this excursion to anyone. Again, it is boring in my opinion. "Gus" the tour guide was wonderful, friendly, & very knowledgable.
Hector "the PROTECTOR" and Raul "NASCAR King" from Grey Lines were fantastic. Their attention to details to ensure our trip was safe and fun was exceptional, and they went out of their way to provide a tour experience that was over the top. We couldn't ask for a better team to share our day with. Highly recommend both for your trip to San Sebastian. While on the small side of the scale, the fanily owned coffee plantation and the tequila factory were both excellent. The authentic Mexican lunch was delicious. San Sebastian itself is truly a hidden treasure. Much of the old architecture from the early 1800s remains, with the town church and plaza being the center piece of the charming village.
I went on a full day tour with Discovery. Our guide Tomas was very knowlegable and kept a running commentary most of the day. We stopped for organic Tequila as well as organic coffee.I bought both Lunch was truly delicious and the town itself charming. I also bought some silver. Very enjoyable day out..
Great day trip from Vallarta. Nice stops along the way at a tequila distillery and a coffee producer. San Sebastian was a step back in time. Oscar is a super guide!
Our tour guide Cesar and driver Carlos were excellent. Cesar is very knowledgeable of the history and area. The tour consisted of a 1.5 hour drive up the mountain, and 4 hrs sightseeing, tasting, eating and shopping, then 1.5 hours drive back. Cesar offered flexibility in the timing of our activities which was great, and shared the history of San Sebastián. Lunch was delicious and very authentic. A fabulous day trip that left us yearning for more.
Had a great trip with Mario and Charlie! Mario was a wealth of interesting knowledge of history and is an excellent guide! Lunch was delicious. San Sebastian is a magical place!
Interesting,Mario is funny, information is extensive, variety holds your interest, tiny tequila still, town Church, family history, scenery , low humidity, great temperature and finally, met great people on the tour.
This is a very nice tour, small group vans. All the stops are a learning experience and our group enjoyed all of them. Bring money, you can't believe how good the fresh out of the oven bakery is. The Fresh made corn tortilla made in front of you. YUM!! Only thing that can't be helped is the long drive. Our Guide and driver Tomas was Excellent.
We had a great day with Mario on the tour. It's a beautiful drive up into the mountains, and Mario is an expert on Mexican history so it was very informative. The taco stop and tequila tasting were both fun, and lunch in San Sebastian was delicious. It was the last day of the festival of San Sebastian, so the little town was full and there were fantastic mariachi bands playing in a contest. We also saw some of the rodeo participants and there were stands and stalls all around the town. We saw a few of the local buildings and the jail, too. If the festival wasn't happening, I would guess that the little town would have been pretty dead and not as lively. Just be aware that you don't get to see or tour the mine. San Sebastian is an old silver mining town, but you only spend about 1.5 - 2 hours there, including lunch. That's fine, but my husband was excited about at least seeing the mine and it's not on the tour. The tour is worth it just for the drive into the mountains and the food.
The tour covered a lot of stops. Fresh tortillas, tequila tasting, coffee farm, lunch and tour of San sabastian. Was a little rushed but that's ok with us.
Great tour. Ceasar was a delightful guide. Hit the highlights. Wonderful trip into rural Mexico to a sleepy village. Stops at bakery and Tequila Factory were fun. Small group of only 6 allowed us to meet other travelers.
I decided to take a tour to the oldest town in this area of Mexico, Jalisco. I decided on Gray Line, and I am ever so happy that I did. The van picked me up at my hotel, right on time. There were only 6 of us going on that tour that day, so it was more personal. Our guide, Mario, told us we would drive about one and a half hours to get to San Sebastián, but we would make 3 stops before we reached the town. Mario talked to us about the area, the history of Mexico, the history of the ancestors of the Mexican people: in short, we received a very informative and interesting lesson on the area. Mario told us he was also a teacher, so I assume that some of his knowledge comes from books, but his passion for what he was teaching comes from his heart. We visited a tequila factory, a coffee farm, and a store where the lady made fresh tortillas that we could buy and make tacos, for about $1 US per taco. She took a ball of fresh masa, flattened it into a tortilla and baked it on top of a wood-fired grill. Then the customer put his own toppings on it: cheese, guacamole, beans, salsa. The tacos were delicious. I had to eat 2, and I rarely eat tacos. We had lunch at a restaurant in San Sebastián, a very good meal with chicken mole, shredded beef for tacos, cheese quesadilla, fresh fruit juice, rice and beans. Then Mario took us on a walk through the town, explaining everything as we went along. At the end of the day, I was very happy that I had taken the tour, for I learned many interesting things, and to have the opportunity to shift back in time to a less hectic world was priceless. Thank you, Gray Line and Mario, for a marvelous experience.
San Sebastian del Oeste is a beautiful town in the mountains above Puerto Vallarta. Starting from the journey there, till back again it was a special day done just right! I believe our tour leader's name was Caesar - hopefully correct - because he was excellent and deserves kudos. I like that Grey Line picks you up and returns you to your hotel. The ride up, besides the informative and fun commentary by Caesar, had a couple of fun stops and opportunities for great tasting: tequila, tortilla making, and pastries (yum!). The town itself is one of Mexico's "Magical" towns and it is. A step back in time, a beautiful church and square, and a very nice walking tour of the town. Learned about coffee growing at the coffee plantation stop - and yes, I did buy a bag. Glad we spent the day on this tour. The van was comfortable even though some of the roads a bit bumpy. I would definitely consider Grey Line Tours again.
Our group was both English and Spanish speaking. Adolfo went back and forth in both languages flawlessly. He was funny and very knowledgeable. We made a zillion stops...a bakery rest stop, a tequila-making ranch, a coffee farm, a Spanish hacienda used for silver production, the San Sebastian jail, the church, etc. etc. Lunch was terrific and wasn't rushed.
This village is 1 1/2 hours from PV but a world away. At 4600' it offers a cool climate and a short hike to Saint Gertrude's Mine. (I'm married to her!) Not much to do but few tourists yet
One of the best excursions we have ever been on. The history and the people so amazing. Its a full 8 hr day, with stops at a road side bakery to sample fresh homemade corn tortillas, a tequilla tasting at a local distillery,a visit to the Coffee plantation, a visit to an authentic Mexican hotel in San Sebastion, and also a visit to a local Silver Smith. We ended our day with an Authentic Mexican lunch. So glad we chose this excursion, well woth the money......
We had a great time! Our Costco package included transportation to and from the hotel provided by Gray Line. It was great. Beware to not talk to the first groups you see in the airport. They will ask what hotel you are at and tell you come this way and then take you to the counter and they will try to sell you the highly discounted or free tours. SCAM trying to sell time shares. Go outdoors and look for the COSTCO sign or Gray Line Sign. We had heard about the time share guys, didn't realize it was them because they were "showing" us to our hotel rep. Found out real quick it was the time share guys trying to sell stuff. Eric at the Grayline booth at the Grand Fiesta Americana resort was very helpful and made our trip choices easy and affordable. Ceasar with Grayline tours was awesome. Our group tour to San Sebatsian ended up as a private tour since no one else signed up. He was a great tour guide. We thoroughly enjoyed the information he gave us. We did a city tour and it was great. They took us too several tourist stops and sights such as the church and the board walk. Don't buy anything at the first price they give you in the shops! All buses/taxi's were very new and top notch! All our tour guides were very entertaining, informative and friendly.
Toured the old mining town and agricultural area. This town goes back to the Spanish invasion when they were looking for gold but found silver. They used the locals for labor to mine the ore which got sent back to Spain.

The tour itself was interesting and informative and quite enjoyable. The problem was getting pick-up information from the local tour operator since we were not staying in a hotel. Viator got it for us. The email from the local vendor came less than 30 minutes before the tour was scheduled to start.
