Puerto Vallarta Sea Turtle Release & Conservation Experience

Informative and magical. The guides obviously care deeply for their environment and had so much to share not only about the turtles but also other wildlife spotted along the way. The actual turtle release was so beautiful and my kids loved getting to name their little babies for send off!

This was genuinely one of the best experiences of my life and I am so glad I booked it. I arrived about 1.25 hours early to poke around Marina Vallarta and they let me use the restroom early. I poked around and saw many friendly iguanas near the pier, so friendly the business owners picked flowers so I could feed them. They gave us a detailed class on the turtle species and anatomy. We packed up and headed out, along the way our tour guide offered us snacks and drinks and pointed out the crocodiles along the golf course and stopped for us to photograph. He was very very kind, personable and knowledgeable. We walked along the beach where he was able to show us crocodile tracks, crab and turtle tracks. When we got to the camp, he showed us where the eggs hatch and brought out the baby’s. He gave us ample time to photograph and video them before handing them to us. I really appreciated him photographing me with my baby turtles as I traveled alone. The release was incredible. On our way back, we were able to see a turtle laying eggs which is very rare. He let us take photos with him shining the red light. Then we walked back and drove back to EcoTours where he called me a taxi and I left! I would absolutely recommend this to any and everyone.

This is my second time going and it was just as incredible as the first time. EcoTours makes it all so easy. They blend education and experience perfectly. It’s a truly magical experience. We even saw a Turtle on the beach actively laying eggs in our walk back to the van. Our guide made sure everyone stayed a respectable distance away and use red light so as not to disturb her but allowing people to get pictures. And they alerted the Turtle Camp so they could come protect the nest. They don’t just call the talk of ecotourism they live it. And the guide is top notch. I 100% recommend!

It was amazing! Maggie was super informative on marine life in Puerto Vallarta and provided a great experience for us. We had such a wonderful time releasing the baby turtles and learning about them. Next time we are in Puerto Vallarta we will be doing this again, thank you for a great time Maggie!

Our whole family had a blast! The guides were super friendly and informative! The turtles didn’t hatch the day that we had scheduled, so be prepared for that possibility, but the staff was great to reach out as soon as they could and reschedule us for the next day when the turtles had hatched. Super great experience. Bring lots of bug spray!!

This was a really neat excursion. Very informative and the little guys are super sweet. Keep in mind it is about a 15 min drive from the eco tour office in a van (each way) and bumpy at times, but we felt very safe the entire time. Once you arrive at the beach it is a 15-20 min walk on the beach (each way) that some people may not be able to do. I think it is a great thing for families. People of all ages were on our tour and everybody enjoyed it. Maggie and Michael were both great guides. Would definitely recommend it.

It was an informative and relaxing experience. It was a lot of fun to be able to release a baby turtle to make its way down to the ocean. The two guides were great and took whatever time we wanted in answering questions. Highly recommended.

Margarita and Michael were amazing tour guides. Super friendly and knowledgeable. Me and my family really enjoyed this experience. A must do in Puerto Vallarta. Something we will never forget. Important to know: Our original date was for Friday but they contacted us to let us know the turtles weren’t hatched yet and were able to reschedule for the next day. Definitely plan for flexibility with this experience as the babies decide when they want to make their appearance.

This is an experience that you don’t get to do at everyday tourist activities. Worth every penny! Tour guides were very informative.

It was a beautiful evening and so magical to take part in this experience with our 6 year old and 2 year old. All the information we learnt was neat. The kids sat so still while helping release and watching the turtles go! They both are still talking about it days later! The walk wasn't as long or hard to walk in the sand as I was expecting. Highly recommend this tour!

Beautiful to connect with nature. One of our highlights in Puerto Vallarta. We really enjoyed the educational lecture before releasing the turtles. One in 1000 survive, so a humbling experience. Very well run organisation and we would definitely do it again.

It was a. Incredible tour. If you come to Puerto Vallarta it is a must see. The tour guides Michael and Francis were very knowledgeable and friendly.

This was a great experience -educational, moving, and fun! We learned a lot about sea turtles and the turtle camp that helps protect them. The guides were great! We went as a couple but there were families with young kids and this seemed very appropriate for them also. There were two nice bonuses: 1) a spectacular sunset then a super moon, and 2) a couple of stops to view crocodiles and birds. The walking was not difficult and we didn't have any insect problems. The sand in Puerto Vallarta is coarse, and we found wearing socks prevented blisters. The guides passed out snacks which was another nice bonus!

We loved it. The conservation efforts are remarkable and many baby turtles are rescued as a result. Our guides were loaded with information and actually participated in the release effort. We purchased a souvenir and made a donation to the cause. We would love to go back and do it again.

We had a great time. The guides/conservationalists were very knowledgeable and answered lots of questions. It was a short van ride to the beach and they even provided snacks. The turtles were so cute. It was fun giving them names and watching them “race” to the ocean!

My husband and I had a great time! It was educational and fun. If you are interested in this tour you will need to walk on the beach and around rocks. It was not a problem for us but we did see some elderly people have issues with the walk, especially on the return walk in the dark.

Incredible experience for both adults and kids! We learned all about the turtles in a brief educational session prior to the tour which we appreciated. Our tour guides were very knowledgeable- also appreciated. The actual release was a memory we will have forever! The sunset happened to be incredible as well. Another nice touch was the drinks and snacks provided by staff. I would HIGHLY recommend it for a more personalized and unique experience. It was a highlight of our trip for us all.

We did not have hatchlings on our date we scheduled, but they called us back on a day they had hatchlings and took us, even though it was a day they were not open. Thank you Francisco for being patient and guiding us!. The turtles are so cute and they do their best to give them their best chance to survive. We loved it!!!

Been to Puerto Vallarta a dozen times and have never done this! What an amazing experience for all ages ( as long as you are able to walk a bit) The tour started with an educational session instructed by an amazing bilingual guide. Then we loaded up in a van and drove to the beach. Drinks and snacks were provided. After a 10 minute walk we were at the turtle camp. There were so many hatchlings that each of the women in the group got 2 turtles to release. After a few moments of picture taking, it was time to watch the turtles make their way into the ocean. One of the most memorable experiences I’ve ever had. Add this to your bucket list! We will definitely do this again!

I Highly recommend this experience. Michael was knowledgeable and thoughtful. He brought extra water, juice and snacks for the group. Releasing baby sea turtle hatchlings was an epic bucket list experience that we will cherish for a lifetime. They were so tiny, mighty and adorable! After we returned to the tour office, they provided access to the bathrooms again and even had a hose outside to rinse off your feet and sandals.

It is a great blend of education about sea turtles and the ecosystem into which they fit and an exciting hands on opportunity to actually help the species increase in numbers by participating in the actual release of newborn sea turtles. All of this, AND they are incredibly adorable! Highly recommend!

This was awesome! The baby turtles were a half hour old when we sent them in their way..during a beautiful sunset…it was touching. The staff was wonderful; the slide show educational; and our questions were answered with conservation and the environment in mind, helping us understand how humanity impacts our planet.

Amazing! The guides, instruction, transportation and experience were all excellent. Well done and will never forget it! The experience is one everyone should have!

They canceled me last min. I thought I can go to see turtle release before I leave and they just email and canceled me on the same date in the morning.

We had gone on the dolphin tour the day before, and Michael mentioned that they would be doing a sea turtle release in the next few days. They called us the next morning to let us know they'd be releasing them that night, which we all thought was very courteous. It was an amazing experience. We learned about the turtles and their predators, then they drove us to the beach. We took a 15-20 min walk (each way) to the release area, then we each received a turtle in a coconut shell. We named our turtles and watched them get carried out to sea to begin their life! It was so nice to be able to do this in a group of 10. Sometimes these tours are in much larger groups, but this felt really personal. Michael was so informative, and so kind with all of us, and we really appreciated that he remembered how excited we were for the release. Definitely worth the money to be able to do something with a guide who clearly cares so much about the environment!
