We used Vallarta tours twice last year and thouroughly enjoyed it so we decided to try it again for the old town taco tour. We found some fantastic places to make our regular stops for in the future. We even went back to one for supper later in the week! Bernardo was fantastic and very knowledgeable of the town and history.

We, (My wife and I) thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent on the tour. Joanna taught us many things and took us to fabulous places in the old city area. The food we enjoyed was absolutely amazing. I strongly recommend this tour and do bring your appetite. A 10 out of 10 in my book. Juanito
Nobody else booked, so I got the guide to myself for the afternoon! I appreciated that they didn't cancel just because I was the only person. We spent about four hours on the tour, trying tequila and mezcal as well as pulque and raicilla. I'd already done a couple of food tours, so it was fun to spend an afternoon on drinks instead. This one starts at three, which worked well for an afternoon outing that continued into the evening. I booked their other Mexology tour too, but on a different day. There was plenty of time for both during my trip.
Al was great about explaining to us the history of the town and what kind of foods we were eating. Also very accommodating to the vegetarians in our group. Typically we have to eat all cheese foods but we had lots of variety.
The guide Al….. was so friendly, knowledgeable and patient. There is so much to see and he was in no hurry to rush us along. Omg the goat birria tacos are to die for. The history of all the places was very informative. It’s about a 3hr tour and is worth every $$$ spent. Highly recommend if it’s your first time in Puerto Vallarta or if you’re a frequent visitor.
One of the best food tours. We had a great time with Joana our guide. The food was delicious and plentiful. Our friends have lived here for 7 years, never been on a tour. Now they are hooked. Can't wait to schedule our next tour.
Our tour included 8 stops - 5 tacos, 1 agua fresca, 1 ice cream, 1 chocolate. Lots of good information in between. Our guide, Al, was excellent! Highly recommend.
Al was a lovely tour guide. We were so full by the end of the tour. Everything was delicious. Highly recommend!
We loved our taco tour! All the tacos were wonderful. Sylvia knew the history of all the taco shops and recommended salsa pairings for each item that brought out the best flavors. She also pointed out additional places for us to try on our own. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys good food and wants to learn some local culture.
Phenomenal Food Tour with Joana! Joana was absolutely fantastic! She was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience fun from beginning to end. The food at every stop was delicious, and I loved getting to experience authentic local places that I probably would not have discovered on my own. The amount and quality of food you get for the price makes this tour a phenomenal value. I left full, happy, and with a much better appreciation for Puerto Vallarta and its food scene. I highly recommend Vallarta Food Tours, and if you get Joana as your guide, you're in for a great experience. Definitely one of the highlights of my trip!
You better come HUNGRY! There are 10 stops on this tour, be adventurous for the best experience. But if you play it safe, you will also be happy. Best food I have never had before: smoked marlin! Wow! Nanci fruit was interesting flavor to experience. Book with this group, you will NOT be disappointed!
We have taken this food tour many times and it is amazing every time. Sylvia was again our tour guide and she is the BEST! Besides informing us about each taco we were trying, she told us the history of the area and even showed us plants and trees along our route. This tour was extra special because of Sylvia's enthusiasm and love of Puerto Vallarta.
Easy to book and communication was great. Easy to find meeting place. Our tour guide Joanna was on time and we started promptly. The tour lasted as planned around 3 1/2 hrs and we went to 8 different locations, Joanna was very good in explaining the history of the locations we went to. It was nice to support local family owned establishments. The food was varied and was just the right amount for this type of tour. Joanna was very flexible in making sure we all enjoyed our food experience and helping with substitutions in some cases. Highly recommend this tour and have absolutely no complaints at all. Will definitely recommend it to others and a nice way also to see different area of town. Plenty of rest between the locations so a nice balance between walking and eating!
We thoroughly enjoyed the Original Downtown Tour. So informative, great eats and drinks and a great guide, Joanna! Our 5th tour with this company over the last few years. We try a different tour or two each year. Highly recommend! Small groups too which is nice.
We had such a great time on this tour. Every food stop was fantastic. Our tour guide Al was great and explained all the history of each stop as well as Puerto Vallarta. I definitely recommend this tour to anyone who loves food and wants to experience the real Puerto Vallarta.
The price was excellent for the amount of food received. The quality of the food was great. They provided choices for the non fish lovers. The tour was 3 hours long with plenty of walking but at a good pace. All six of us loved the food. Would do this tour again as the restaurant s change.
We had a great time on the original downtown food tour. All the places that we stopped had great food. Our tour guide Joana was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable and fun.
Silvia was an amazing guide for this adventure. Thank God we walked the taco off as we went. Her personality made the experience top notch, from her food description, to the people serving us their family recipes this is a must do!!! Made it hard to even pick a top 3 at the end of the evening...
Jesús was an incredible tour guide. He even took us on a slight detour to make sure we got to see some iguanas along the way. Jesus informed us about the history of the area, of the food, and the culture. The food was delicious as well. We never felt rushed and he made sure to tailor our experience based on our likes and dislikes or restrictions.
Amazing experience—truly a taste of Jalisco at its finest! Our guide, Joana, was incredibly informative and upbeat, bringing each dish to life by explaining its role in everyday Mexican culture. We did have a small issue with cruise timing and the time difference in Puerto Vallarta, but Viator stayed in constant contact, and Joana went above and beyond by meeting us right at the cab. Everything was seamless despite the hiccup, and it made the experience even more memorable. I can’t wait to come back and do this again!
Amazing food options!! We loved it! Everyone was so welcoming and we felt very safe and comfortable exploring the area and enjoying amazing food. Joana was fantastic and we learned so much about the area. Such an incredible opportunity! Would highly recommend this!
Al was amazing! He shared the history of the area and showed us some great local restaurants! Highly recommend!
It was a great experience! We decided to do it last minute and it didn’t disappoint us. Brenda our tour guide was excellent, super knowledgeable about everything along our route, not just the food. I would highly recommend this for people wanting to try different dishes. Been to Puerto Vallarta before and the places we ate at on the tour, we walked by before and never really looked at, so it certainly opened our eyes to what we have missed.
This was hands down our best day on our trip. Our guide was Al and he not only took us to delicious food, he was a wealth of knowledge from history, to local plants...we learned so much.
Wonderful tour, so much better experience than being in the port area. Al was wonderful.
This is the second time that I have taken this food tour through Vallarta Food Tours, on both occasions, I have had an exceptional experience. Not only is the food fantastic, my guides have been energized, well informed on the food/restaurant and extremely friendly. My most recent guide, Silvia, made our experience even more enjoyable. We had a family member that had some allergies and Silvia went out of her way to ensure she still experienced all the wonderful food. I recommend this company and this tour for anyone visiting Puerto Vallarta. It's a great way to tour the town while enjoying some local, authentic food.
Had a great time with Al. He made the experience smooth and interesting, navigating potential closures for the holiday we booked our tour on with ease. Delicious variety of food - will be thinking about that goat birria taco for a long time.
Edgar was our tour guide (like a very good “substitute teacher,” he was called in to replace a guide who had called in sick) who greeted us at the Cardenas Park pavilion — where we embarked on a three hour tour of Zona Romantica. Among the eight stops were a variety of authentic “street food experiences.” He was informative/knowledgeable, helpful and friendly all along the way.:)
The tour was awesome!! So much food. The guide Joana was excellent. The right of time between stops was well thought out with places to sit. Much appreciated for this 63 yr old woman. History food and excerise on a beautiful day in Puerto vallarta.
We had a wonderful time with great food and a lovely walk through the romantic area of Puerto Vallarta. Maho shared lots of interesting information about the area and the tacos were delicious!
Great tour with tasty tacos and entertaining and informative guide, Maho. Tour was easy walking and included tacos, drinks and ice cream. Try it !
The taco tour was great and introduced us to new places and a better understanding of tacos and the Romantica Zone. Our guide Sylvia was amazing and made the tour perfect. Highly recommend.
Plenty of food for the money! Gio was a wonderful guide, knowledgeable about local customs and traditions. Each stop featured a different style of taco and the history and culture involved was interesting. Highly recommend.
This was a great tour, provided by Maho...an excellent, informative and entertaining guide. I would highly reccomend
We did this tour on January 18 and absolutely loved it. Our guide Eric (Gato Gordo) was delightful; full of interesting information about the places we visited, all of which were excellent. Our group had a couple of different allergies/requirements and they were accommodated nicely. The walking pace was easy. Definitely recommend doing this tour to get a lay of the land, so to speak. We went back to a few of the stops afterwards, as we wanted MORE of the delicious teasers we tasted. Again, highly recommend this tour! C and G from Ontario, Canada
We have experienced food tours all over the world and this was among the best! Al (our guide) was wonderful- extremely attentive and knowledgeable, and the food was fantastic. We had our two small children with us and Al made sure they had everything they needed. Highly recommend.
Each taco on the tour was a unique experience. Our tour guide, Maho went above and beyond to make answer questions, and fill us in on hidden gems and little known information about the area. He immediately put us at ease and made our tour both fun and entertaining. Highly recommend.
Edgar was a phenomenal guide. Very informative and friendly. He arrived at the starting location early and was enthusiastic throughout the entire tour. This was a wonderful experience and I could not recommend him highly enough.
Old Town Taco Tour. Edgar was personable and took us to a number of great spots in Zona Romantica for street tacos, agua Fresca and ice juice bars. Food was delicious. Only concern was the tour was scheduled for three hours and only lasted two. Wondering if we were shortchanged by a shorter tour??
Fantastic taco tour! The food was excellent—super local, fresh, and full of flavor. Our guide, Maho, was incredible and really brought everything to life. We learned so much about the city’s history and got to see many of the sites along the way. Honestly, it’s the best tour I’ve taken in a long time. I would absolutely go again. Don’t miss this!
Al was an amazing tour guide! We weren’t quite sure what to expect, but are so glad we did this excursion. In all we visited 6 food places and 1 drink stand. All of the food was amazing, from birriera tacos to flan, Agua Frescas to a shot of tequila “Flag Style” we highly recommend this tour! In total the tour was about 3 miles of walking and included cobblestone streets and a swinging foot bridge over the Rio Cuale.
Loved the Old Vallarta Food Tour. Erik was our guide and he was fun, knowledgeable and attentive. He took us to 6 stops, which includes tacos, tostadas, marlin, mahi mahi, mole, chocolates, flan, mexican coffee, tequila, and margaritas. I highly recommend this walking tour, but start early as it gets hot out, and come HUNGRY!
Al was incredible and so knowledgeable. Each stop felt special and was incredible! Make sure to get an aqua Fresca to go because the spicy food at the next stop is the perfect pairing for it! Obsessed with the last stop shrimp taco on blue corn tortilla as well! And a chocolate truffle to finish it off 🤤🤤🤤 Highlight.. Mexican moonshine (has a real name, lol) that we had with a cricket.. a very legit experience that was awesome! Would definitely go again! Fantastic!!
