Went in a group of 5 family members on this cooking class tour led by Elias and Rodrigo. They were absolutely fantastic and everything from the market tour through the hands on experience of cooking was amazing. The meal at the end was delicious and we are so excited to be able to take home a jar of the mole we made, as well as the printed recipe to make it again in the future. For the rest of the day, everyone kept saying, “wow what a grade class we had”. Highly recommend this activity!!

We had a great time learning to make mole with Martin ! He was a great instructor, very thorough in his instructions, we did a lot of hands on which helps learn the process. We had a blast , our mole was delicious ! We hope Martin will offer other classes in Mexican cooking because we will definitely sign up for more !
Our instructor, Elias, was an amazing teacher. He was so knowledgeable about the history of this Mayan delicacy and made the experience so much fun with the trip to the mercado to shop for the ingredients we would need to make our own Mole to take home. It was a history lesson in action and done with an incredible sense of humor! I highly recommend this to anyone wanting knowledge, hands-on cooking and pure fun.
It was an excellent time. We really learned how to prepare this amazing dish from scratch. It was well worth the time and money
This was a wonderful experience, learning about all that goes into making mole sauce. Our guide and chef,Elias, was very knowledgeable and an expert on all the ingredients. Our time at the market was very informative, and all of us had hands-on experience during the cooking. And then we got to eat chicken with mole with Spanish rice afterwards. Very impressive class and so much fun. We also each got a jar of the mole sauce we made. Take this class, he won’t be disappointed.
Great experience! We had no idea how many ingredients were involved and the many different steps in the cooking process. We enjoyed the local market, the history shared by Martin our host. Eating our homemade mole was the perfect finale!
Best way to dive into your PV experience. Started at a local market sourcing ingredients. Then divided all tasks and cooked an amazing mole together. Our chef/guide, Martin was a lover of PV, food, culture and history. He merged information from all these categories into the three hours we spent together. We are three friends who love to cook. We enjoyed every component of this class and the mole was exceptional. The shop also offers many unique chocolate products.
Elias did a great job. We had so much fun, ate a great meal, took home leftovers and also took home a jar of mole. What a fun experience!
Great experience . The mole was super fun to make with family and new friends. Thank you. Perfect excursion
This class completely and utterly exceeded our expectations. The tour to the local market to buy ingredients was a real treat. The cooking kitchen has fabulous views. The wonderful talented Zoar our chef was charming, funny and easy to understand with her stories and instructions. Our market tour guide Elias was a smart funny knowledgeable guy. The mole poblano sauce was the best I have ever had. It’s not an everyday dish. Learning what goes into and how to make it was a real joy. Highly recommend this class. So much fun.
This was a wonderful experience for my family and I. Marteen is a great teacher. He involved everyone with the mole making and taught us some new things about cooking. Going to the market and buying items for our mole was insightful and fun. The views from the kitchen were amazing and beautiful.
I just wanted to share my experience with Marteen, who recently guided me through the process of making poblano mole. His knowledge of food and history is truly impressive, and he made the entire experience both informative and enjoyable. Shopping for the ingredients with someone so experienced added so much to the process. I gained a new appreciation for the craft of making mole, as I learned just how many ingredients and techniques are involved. The final result was absolutely worth the effort! Marteen’s organized and approachable nature made it easy to follow along, and I now feel much more confident in my cooking skills. Looking forward to sharing more culinary adventures soon!
We had the best time with Zoar at the mole making class today! She went to culinary school and has a love for cooking and teaching that shines! We went to the market first and she helped us find the ingredients, then back to the shop to cook. It is a very hands on workshop which we love so we cut, cooked, blended, and mashed with her guidance. At the end we enjoyed the best mole we’ve had in years! And they gave us the recipe so we can try to recreate it at home. Would definitely recommend this class and especially Zoar!
Martin was fabulous! I loved going to the market first. And he made the complex recipe very easy! Thank you!
Great food good teacher. Fun experience. The trip to the market was informative. Learned how to pick out plantains and how the peppers were the same just dried in a different way. Showed us how to pick out the peppers, what to look for. The class was very interactive and kept us all involved in the process. Very enjoyable for all of us
What else to say but fantastic! Zoar was fantastic, her love of food was very evident and she was a true joy to spend the day with. Being foodies and in the industry ourselves, we were very impressed with the sanitary standards she followed. The entire experience was fantastic, and the finished product was excellent! Highly recommend this mole experience and ask for Zoar for your instructor!
Martin was a great instructor. It was fun going to the market to select ingredients and then prepare them in the class. Martin made a very complex recipe look easy. The mole we made was outstanding on the cooked chicken and rice.
We had an amazing day with Zoar!!!! She walked us through the ingredients purchase, introduced us to amazing market vendors, and was a wealth of information. The mole making itself was fun, easy to follow, and delicious. The kitchen area was clean and air conditioner. We can't say enough good things about this class!

Highly recommended. I really enjoyed the local market to get the ingredients. Our host got us some fresh local food to taste, which was amazing. Back at the class we went through every step of home made mole, with explications on how and why you do each one. We finished with a meal of chicken mole with rice, which was the best mole I have ever eaten. It makes me realize I have only eaten canned mole in the past. There is no comparison.
We learned how to make mole with Zour. She was fantastic! We went to the market to pick up our ingredients, back to the kitchen and all us were very involved in making mole. Zour made chicken and rice and smothered it with the mole we made. So delicious! We even got to bring a jar of paste home.
Martin was a great teacher! So friendly and knowledgeable. Loved that we started the class with a trip to the market for the ingredients. The mole was delicious.
We booked this directly via the Choco Museo website. This was a very interactive and fun experience! In the end you will go hole with your personal batch of mole and the recipe for your future enjoyment. We highly recommend to learn local culture!
This was an excellent half-day experience. Our instructor took us through a local market to select ingredients, told us stories of growing up in Vallarta, and taught us how to make amazing mole, culminating in a delicious lunch. The instructor kept the atmosphere relaxed, but we worked hard, especially at the molina grinding all of the spices. At the end we each got a jar of the mole we made. We’re looking forward to enjoying many meals to come at home and remembering this fun tour.
This was a really fun excursion for me and my teen daughter. We got to explore the marketplace in Puerto Vallarta (where the locals shop, away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy parts of town). The cooking class was very chill and fun; just us and 2 other people along with the teacher. We got to have a delicious lunch and take home a jar of mole paste (as well as the recipe). Only thing to note: For anyone with mobility impairments, be aware that there are stairs (the class is up one set of stairs) as well as cobblestone streets for a short walk around the market.
What a fun experience. We were able to go to the market to purchase all the items for our mole before coming back & having a hands-on experience creating the mole with five other class members & our excellent instructor.
Myself and two other friends took the mole class with Zoar and it was an absolute blast. We had a fun time shopping for food, preparing it while learning how to make it, and definitely eating it. It was 100% made from scratch and better than you’ll probably find in any restaurant. Zoar was amazing, fun, engaging, and very personable. We walked away feeling like we made a new friend or sister.
Absolutely fantastic! Instructor had a fabulous, dry sense of humor but was clearly passionate about cooking an AUTHENTIC Mole! He took his time explaining all the ingredients and what to look for while shopping at the market, and shared lots of tips and tricks while we were cooking. Our group was small so we all get the opportunity, to chop and grind our way to an AMAZING mole dish. Soooooo good!!!!
I loved this Mole class so much I've taken it twice!!! I would easily take it again! You will visit the local markets, butchers, and a tortilla factory to learn about the food history in Puerto Vallarta and throughout Mexico before going back to the Museo for a cooking class that will delight the senses. The class begins around 10:30a and ends around 1:30p. You will eat the best Mole dish of your entire life at the end, you'll leave with a Jar of mole to take home THAT YOU MUST CHECK IN YOUR BAGGAGE OR SHIP HOME. DO NOT CARRY ON.
Very well put together and overall mellow learning experience! Mole is a complicated dish that Mouan guided us through with ease. The market trip was a sweet way to gain close up knowledge of how food fits into Puerto Vallarta's culture and daily life, and Mouan has a lot of firsthand experience and smart thoughts to share -- thank you for a fulfilling day, Mouan!
Our guide, Zoar, was very familiar with the area, and took us to a Mexican market to pick out all of our recipe ingredients. This was such a fun time and really added to the authentic mole making experience. When we returned, we learned how to use each ingredient to prepare the best Mole we have ever had! She was able to accommodate my food allergies, so our Mole was made gluten free. The class included our finished product Mole Poblano con Pollo for lunch. I highly recommend this class for its educational value and authentic Mexican cooking.
We enjoyed all aspects of this activity, including the trip to the market to pick up ingredients, the cooking lesson, and the opportunity to taste the mole. Zoar was an excellent host; she was very patient, informative, and fun. Definitely a wonderful experience and highly recommended.
EXCELLENT! The market experience was a wonderful surprise; we learned how to select the correct ingredients (& the correct amount of ripeness or correct amount of dryness, for the peppers). We also stopped at a small Tortilla factory to pick up a stack of freshly made tortillas. The preparation and cooking instructions were friendly/engaging. The prep and cooking took about 2.5 hours. We start about 10:30 AM & finished up around 2:30 PM. The mole was the best I have ever had! Hi recommend this class!
Fantastic class. Brought a jar back to our condo and made mole enchiladas for our travel companions. Can’t wait to make this at home and impress our friends.
We loved the trip to The Emilio Zapata market. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the history of PV in addition to explaining the different ingredients in mole. He was amazing!
Zoar was an incredible instructor. The visit to the market was so fun and the food prep was very educational. The final product was delicious, and we got to bring two jars home! One of the nicest views of any cooking class i have taken; overlooking the Malecòn. Beautiful!
Interesting shopping at the local market and hands on workshop to make a complex mole served on chicken with rice! Zoar was warm friendly and informative!
Zoar was our chef and helped us make an amazing mole sauce served with chicken and rice. She was patient, kind, and personable in her presentation
I booked this for my husband and Daughter. They came back with great reviews and had a wonderful experience. They would recommend the class, especially if you love to cook.
So fun! Very immersive and educational, excellent instructors, excellent food, a must do!! We will definitely do it again, it was that fantastic!
This mole cooking class as so much fun and tasty. Zoar the instructor was very friendly and very informative. The whole experience was amazing.
Going to the market to learn about what to look for in the quality of the chili pepper user in making the mole'.
I booked this class for my husband and 18 year old son. They had an incredible time and loved it! They said their teacher was wonderful and had excellent English skills and the time at the market and then the kitchen was great. They each had their own mole that they brought back with them.
Worth every penny!! Was a great experience. We went shopping for all the ingredients for mole, then went back to the private kitchen and made MOLE!! She taught us all her traditions, and then we ate a great meal!!
The class was very informative, intimate and entertaining! Great way to learn about the culture of the country and the local ingredients! Our class was small and allowed us all to hear the instructor and participate as well we each were able to take a jar home! Our instructor Zoar was energetic and thoroughly enjoyed what she was doing. I strongly recommend this class to anyone interested.
We had a great time. Elias and Rodrigo were amazing and the mole came out so good. Don't miss this workshop if you ever go to Puerto Vallarta 😋
This experience was worth every peso! I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. It's so cool to get a chance to shop for ingredients, visit the tortilleria, and put it all together into a tasty mole poblano dish. Be prepared to be surprised about how much is involved in making the humble mole. But the hard work pays off. None of this would have been possible without Zoar's expert guidance. From how to select produce and chiles, to why they use a particular tortilleria... all the way through the many steps of making mole poblano. I'm sure everyone on the team is excellent, but I hope you get Zoar!
Great experience learning not only how to make Mole but the history as well. I learned so much about my favorite Mexican dish. The only down side was that I arrived late as I was on a cruise and our ship's time was an hour later. I am so happy they understood and accommodated us even though we were late.
This is a major highlight of our trip to Puerto Vallarta. Our instructor Zoar took us from the ingredient shopping to the finished product. It is a totally hands on experience. Zoar always provides historical and cultural information during her demonstration and instruction. The class is held on the upper floor of the ChocoMuseo shop and museum. Take the time to same the exceptional chocolates. We will forever remember Zoar for her s culinary skills, methodical teaching, and her friendly and welcoming nature.
Our instructors, Zoar and Mouan, were simply FABULOUS!!! From going to the open air market to get the ingredients, to the actual cooking part, Zoar and Mouan took the time to answer our questions, and also explained the history of this dish. When time to cook, Zoar took us step through the whole process, and made it fun and entertaining. The lunch we made, featuring the mole poblano sauce, was out of this world delicious. We even got to take our own jar of the mole base to make at home.
