The trip is an all day event. They picked us up at the hotel with alot of detail about the history of the city and its people. The groups are small about 10 or less. We toured the city with trips to the local boardwalk, a church and a very nice jewlery store. From there we went to the butterfly experience and lunch. The experience was nice and educational. The lunch and admitting is not included in the price but the admitting was inexpensive. You pick from a menu for lunch and they prepare it while you are with the butterfly's. The food is served next the the river with some great views. After that we traveled to the beach for photo ops and some additional shopping. Then onto the small village for tequila tasting. We sampled 9 types that where all good. Other than the rough cobblestone roads and the humidity outside the tour was excellent.

I thought the excursion was supposed to start at 10 am. I tried to contact the operator regarding a pick up time with the phone number provided around 9:45, I got Spanish voice mail which I could not understand. The operator arrive at our resort after 10am. By that time I made other plans and due to the fact we were leaving PV soon after, I was unable to re schedule this excursion. This review is not based on experiencing the event because we didn't, more about the communication for the event. I'm still waiting to hear about a partial/full refund.
Wrong, wrong from beginning to end. THE WORST tour booked through Viator, ever. Allow me to go down the list: 1. No follow up confirmation 2. No return text/call/ messages from "tour operator" 3. 25 minutes late for pick up 4. Beat up bus with no A/C 5. Non-bilingual English speaking guide (Maria) 6. Hot, sweaty time wasted at Malechon 7. Trashy beach with boat fumes/ exhaust The only positive was the butterflies and delicious lunch.
Overall tour was great, got to see some neat places that I wouldnt have found on my own. Guide, photographer, and driver were all very nice. The only part that surprised me, was that you can choose to do the tour in English or Spanish. I chose english, however the rest of the people on the tour all spoke Spanish. The tour guide also struggled a bit with the english descriptions. The butterfly sanctuary also does not allow phones inside, so you have to pay for any pictures
Our tour guide (Alphonso) and bus driver (Roman) were amazing! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. We enjoyed every aspect of the tour from the city's history to the butterflies then on to the Tequila then the beach.
Beautiful experience, helpful staff ams beautiful view of the river while eating
Really great tour guide, Abel Medina, was knowledgeable of the area en provided insight of wild life around Vallarta.
Jose was a great guy, very nice and helpful. attentive with the group as a whole and individually
Excellent service. Jose and Juanito were great all along! Mr. David was very knowledgeable as well!
Jose and Juan were amazing very attentive
jose the colombian guy was super cool and he let us pick songs to play on aux
Great tour for the money had a lot of fun would highly recommend it
Abel Medina was amazing. Wonderful attitude and very helpful. Guided us through the butterfly tour and showed us additional things as well as take pics of us and give us advice on other fantastic tours. I 100 percent recommend him.
Everything was great Abel and mary do a great job
It was a great experience I would like to go again if I had more time and also the guide people were funny and kind for any English speakers
Good experience, nice place recomended

Had an amazing time with our group and guides. Jose, Mary, and the rest of the crew were wonderful!
Jose the tour guide was really good at his job. Recommend for future tours
José is a great guide and this was a special adventure.
I have to say this tour was unexpectedly amazing Mr. David and Mr. Abel went above and beyond making sure we felt secure and and enjoyed the whole trip never bored never disappointed. I want to thank the whole morpho mariposario team for all the outstanding hospitality and service. !!!!
Very good tour. Jose was a good tour guide. Beach was cool
Great views and good times with guide
The was a great experience! It was about six hours total, and it was a lot of fun. There were about three other groups, but not crowded at all! Seriously worth it for the money.
good time and great guide and nice
Both guides Perla and Abel were very energetic, funny, and kind. Even though it rained the tour was fun.
Perla, my guide, was friendly and informational. We started with a nice walk along the malecon then off to the jewelry store, butterfly sanctuary, and the beach. She gave everyone a good amount of time to explore themselves solo. Definetly worth the money.
The bus was great. I enjoyed the butterflies and lunch. The tour seemed very disjointed. We could hear our guide 80% of the time. He was very nice. There was no history given throughout the city.
The tour was good and informative. The butterfly place needs some sound deadening material as it was hard to hear/understand the presentation with the echo. Tequila tasting was fun but the meal was very pricey for what you get.
Our day was not typical, I'm sure. It began with some confusion with pick up location and then timing. My information said to meet a near by hotel, the contact/tour guide was looking for us at the cruise port. Causing a 30 min delay. I believe the guide would benefit from a flag to carry in crowded areas (city is crowded) because she is under- tall and difficult to spot. Her English was difficult for me to understand. It became more important to understand her when the van was stopped in traffic due to protesters and many law enforcement personal carrying automatic weapons. She eventually got the van turned around (no butterflies, just tequila and lunch) and the day rerouted, with a happy ending. Her work on fly was impressive. We are all used to the venders' aggressive sales tactics, so we expected that.
I went to the Butterfly cafe with my family of 5 (ages 46, 15, 12, 8, and 7) after we visited the Zoo. It was the perfect place to stop for lunch and educational experience. The tour starts with a short class where we looked at caterpillars hatching, and butterfly wings under a microscope. We then went into the butterfly area and we were taught how to safely hold the butterflies. Afterwards we had a delicious lunch by the river.
It was a wasteful day …… they didn’t show the places they promised. We wasted 4 hours of our time just in a cafe maintained by them. Not at all recommended for any body to take this trip. Took money in advance and then said we don’t care.
It about 6 hour tour for a great price. However, they try to sell you stuff pretty much at every stop. The guides were great and so was the transportation in a AC vehicle. The jewellery store was not worth it at all.
DO NOT BOOK THIS TOUR! Everyone gets charged a different price at the ports based on if you speak Spanish or not. They take you to a bunch of random stores where you are pressured into buying stuff. A good portion of the tour is spent walking through the city in the heat where they take you shop to shop. Areas like the Malecon you get about 10 minutes to take pictures before they rush you to the next thing. The “butterfly exhibit” which is just a cage with some nets in the back of a restaurant was probably the best part but you get maybe 5 minutes to interact with the butterflies. Food at the restaurant is over priced and nasty, when we asked to go to a restaurant down the street the tour guide got VERY angry saying they would leave us if we are not back in 10 minutes. We were scared to get left 45 minutes away from port so we did not go, they then proceeded to take an hour at this location swimming in the lake and eating at the restaurant. The tour guides only want you to buy from where they take you because they earn a portion of the sales. The “tequila tour” was a 1 oz cup that they used to distribute between 4-6 different peoples cups so you definitely were just getting a small sip. They completely skipped the beach because they mismanaged time. We were late back to the ports and the tour guides said “well the boat always lie about the all aboard time”. Overall we were very disappointed in the experience and would never do this tour again, we basically spent 4 hours just walking around random streets or sitting around miserable.
Not really for English speakers, at least on the day I went. The guide was super nice, but spoke very little English. The butterfly sanctuary was a bit boring, the beach was nasty, and the lunch I had was not very good.
Nice affordable tour. Great introduction to PV. A little history, sites, shopping, nature and beach. Exactly what I wanted and expected from the description.
Complete lack of communication. The tell you to call to confirm your reservation, but don’t answer the phone.
This was a fantastic excursion!! Our driver and guide were great and super friendly, the jewelry store is a scam in the sense you only stop there to have a whole bunch of employees pushing you to buy silver, the margarita made it tolerable though lol. The butterfly part was amazing! We learned so much about butterflies. I would go there again in a heartbeat! The tequila tasting part was pretty great too!
Waited for 45 minutes to get picked up and after calling them to ask what happened. They told me they looked all over for us and couldn’t find us. I don’t think they tried that hard.
This was an outstanding tour. Pick up was easy and on time. Oscar was a great host. We went to a tequila tasting at a distillery and had some really good tequila. Saw a butterfly sanctuary and had tacos there then went to the beach for a couple of hours. Well worth the money.
Skip this tour. It's all about selling you items. The loading process took over an hour. The bus was supposed to pick us up at noon, but didn't arrive until 12:15 pm. At 11:45, we got a text from the driver saying, "I'll be there in 5 minutes. That would have been 11:50, not 12:15. The bus is open-air and it because it was nice out, the bus ride was not too hot. I would not take this tour in that bus in the summer when it is hot and humid. The first stop was a jewelry store, where you are herded through the store with staff everywhere, like we are all thieves. It was uncomfortable. The only good part of this stop was the free margarita. Next, we drove through downtown Puerto Vallarta to Mismaloya and stopped at a tequila factory for a tequila tasting. The staff here was very nice, but after sampling some tequila, they wanted you to buy overpriced tequila. I think I saw one person in our tour group buy a bottle of tequila. At this stop, they take your order for lunch at the butterfly exhibit. It was expensive, tourist-priced food, and we decided to skip lunch because we wanted street food at the beach. We asked our guide if food was available at the beach and he said now, which was a blatant lie. There was all kinds of food for sale at the beach and on the walk to the beach. There were restaurants and a bar at the beach. There were also massages available. The butterfly portion of this tour is a complete joke. There were hardly any butterflies and they were all mostly the same kind. I think we saw two different species and that was it. The problem here was that we stayed here WAY too long, which made our time at the beach way too short. The stop at the butterfly exhibit needs to be shortened by a lot. This is also where everyone had lunch, but even with lunch, it should not take that long at that stop. At the butterfly exhibit, there is a small river you can take a quick dip in and hammocks to lay on. If you want to see a good butterfly exhibit, go to Mariposario at C. Golondrina 60, Campo Verde, 48290 Puerto Vallarta. It is 100 times better. This was an inexpensive tour, but I cannot recommend it. The jewelry store stop should be completely removed, but I suspect the tour company gets a kickback from the jewelry store. I can't think of any other reason why they would stop there. The tequila factory was not functioning, and it appeared that it was more of a museum than an actual functioning tequila factory. There was no bottling area that we saw, so we believe it was all faked just to sell overpriced tequila. It appears most of the tours in Puerto Vallarta follow this same game plan. Get you on a bus and take you to places that want to sell you overpriced items. You would be better off taking the city bus for 10 pesos to Mismaloya beach or even a water taxi to enjoy a day at the beach. Otherwise, you will be on a tour bus for too long, going to places where they want you to spend money. It's not what we wanted to do. The tour guide was very friendly, so we did tip him. After all, he's only doing his job. Read the description and know that this is mostly a shopping tour.
We booked this tour expecting to be going to another butterfly exhibition. We realized we were going in a different direction and arrived to a place that was very remote. There were other stops along the way ( a jewelry store and tequila distillery) which were nice and informative, but it was the butterflies that we came to see. We’ve been to other butterfly exhibits but this one was different and special. We’ve learned about the butterfly, its life cycle, but most importantly, conservation efforts being made to preserve and even increasing the population. Aricelli was very know and shared with us that she is seeking her masters degree to further her knowledge and experience to continue this important work. So were we disappointed that it was not what we expected? Absolutely not. It’s important to know how to conserve and protect these important creatures.
Great value for a wonderful experience. Driver was amazing along with super friendly tour guide. Great way to spend a half day doing something fun.
Although we were waiting at the pick up point 15 minutes ahead of time & waited for an additional 45 minutes, our tour director did not show. We have requested a reminbursement
Best value in PV at $29 Canadian! We were coming from Bucerias and we're late for the pick up. Our guide messaged us and we made arrangements to meet at the first step-- the jewelry store. We didn't go in so I don't know if it was just a store or a place where the also made it. The tequila tasting was super fun, with different flavors of tequila. Next was the butterfly place which was magical. I wish I had known we were going to a restaurant so I could be better prepared. The beach was nothing special and could easily been missed altogether. All in all, some great things, a couple of not great things, but a fabulous value at $29!!
Very helpful people, traveled with my mom who has Has limited mobility and a transport chair Very friendly and knowledgeable tour guide named Juan Carlos. Our driver was Ivan and he was excellent
I enjoyed the excursion. It was very reasonably priced however, Viator told me to meet them at 8:40 and when I got there, they said it didn’t start till 10 o’clock.
We booked this trip with one of the many salesmen along the Malecon. We informed the salesman, Francisco, that our mother was disabled and couldn't walk much. So we wanted a bus tour with little walking. He informed us it was and that the trip included cacao tasting along with the tequila tasting. He also told us the tour ended at 5:30pm which it did not. He gave us the pickup location on my phone. He showed us on my map and I pinned it. Day of pickup, we arrived 15 mins early and waited for 30 minutes after the pickup time and no bus. I called to ask what the bus looked like during this time and they told me it was blue with no windows and tropical. After the 30 minute wait they called me to see where I was. Told them we were at the waiting spot they told us. They said ok they'll be a minute to pick us up. Another 5 minutes later they call. Same question. Same answer. 45 minutes after pickup time, they call and tell me to take a cab to a new location and they'll cover the cab cost. So we missed the beginning stop and met with the bus on the second stop after the cab ride. The bus was white with windows. The third stop is the meat of the trip with the tequila tasting and butterfly encounter. There was NO cacao tasting. Walking to this point was minimal which was good. The restaurant food was terrible. Our chicken was cold and rubbery. Difficult to cut and eat. The butterflies were the highlight of the tour. Everything else was subpar and irritating with all said. The last part was the beach. Which was a long walk for a disabled person. What's worse, is that taxis couldn't go down the road to the beach. Due to us being told the tour ended at 5:30, we had another event booked at 6:30 we had to get to. Well it turns out the tour ended at 6:30. So we need a taxi to get back to our hotel. Which means my disabled mother had to walk back up the hill to a taxi. All in all we were very disappointed in the tour. The misinformation just made it all worse. We were not compensated for the screw up that caused us to miss part of the tour and having to wait in the hot sun for an hour. Not that I expected it, but it would have been the right thing to do. It's not expensive but it's a good chunk of time. Save your time and money and book a different trip. Rythm of the Night is excellent and worth the cost.
I was very disappointed. We were told we would spend 1 hour at the beach which we were looking forward to most, well after a very long walk to what had to be the worst beach in Puerto Vallarta we sat down for about 15 minutes before having to take the long walk back to the van. This tour was solely for the kick backs given to the tour company, when at the Tequila factory felt forced to order something to eat after saying a number of times we were not hungry, they obviously benefited from the more people that ate. Save your money.
Time allotted to spend at the butterfly farm was too limited to explore and learn about the butterfly life cycle.
