Analo was our foodie nigh guide. She was really awesome- she told really good stories and shared great information about each of the places where we stopped. I learned a lot and ate fantastic food! It’s hard to choose one stop- they were all great. Amazing experience - highly recommend it. Come hungry :)
Star was a great guide. I felt like a local! The cow head taco was a nice surprise and my favorite of the whole tour. You won't leave hungry.
Anna Lo was amazing. She told us about the local history, stories of the people who made our food and stories about the food. This company is great. They pay the makers full price and contribute to local charities.
Cha Cha was amazing from the start. We loved that her business and the taco stands we frequented were all owned by women. Cha Cha was very knowledgeable about the history of the area, the food and the people we met. The food was excellent and we would highly recommend the tour. Her fun personality and enthusiasm really made the excursion 5 star.
Sooo many tacos! It was wonderful! The tour guide was a true delight. I would definitely book this tour again. I would only pace myself a little more, because it is A LOT of good food.
The tour was AMAZING and would highly recommend. Chacha was just the best guide and we learned so much not only about the food but the history of Puerto Vallarta. Just THE BEST and so much great food!
We had an absolutely amazing experience and highly recommend booking! Chacha was one of the best tour guides we’ve ever had. Far beyond just a taco tour, this is a fascinating lesson in the food, history, culture, and economics of PV. You will leave with a full stomach and heart!
Wonderful food. Anna Lo was our guide and she did and amazing job sharing the history of the city and expert explanations of each of the food stops. Truly an immersion of food, culture, and exercise ( ha ha). I highly recommend this experience.
A must do foodie tour located in Zona Romantica off the tourist area in the heart of local neighborhoods. We tasted tacos, quesadillas, churros and water based popsicles made by those who know how best to make flavourful foods. We visited 8 local vendors and ate so much for the value we pad for this tour. Our guide Anna-Lo was so giving of her time and knowledge. You need to really experience this one of a kind tour.
It was a fun tour. Ana Lo was a great guide with lots of great information about the town and the tacos were delicious. It’s nice to know some food stands to go to.
Excellent tour, great food, and lots of new interesting information! Highly recommend our guide Ana Lorena! The best local tacos are found on this route.
Great tour. Right amount of stops and food. Our guide was Cha Cha who was excellent in discussing food, the stories of the proprietors and general culture. We did a tour with them 3 years ago which was equally good. I also love that they give to meaningful charities.
Tacos were delicious, tour guide very informative, we were all very happy with the tour. We highly recommend this tour.
This tour was amazing and I guide was so informative at all of the local spots and about the local area. The stands that we visited were owned by local families and many were generational. The stops were places I would most likely not visit in my own and helped me gain a new perspective.
The food on this tour is exceptional. Cha Cha was our tour guide. She is very knowledgeable about the area and shared a lot of information about the people and the food. I would highly recommend.
Cha Cha was our guide, extraordinaire. She was warm, engaging, relatable entertaining and knowledgeable. We had the best time with her. Our whole family loved her and even the non-huggers lined up to give her a hug when the tour was finished. Thank you, Cha Cha, we would not hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for a memorable cultural experience.
Had a great time with Star (Estrellita). She was knowledgeable. Lots of food. Several drink samples and even a beer. My husband and son and I couldn't stop talking abouf it. Met a wonderful couple and even got dinner ideas. Would highly recommend.
Our taco tour with ChaCha was a great experience. Chacha taught us so much about the food we were eating and the people who were preparing it. The food was delicious. Don’t eat before you go!
We had an amazing taco tour with star! She was incredibly knowledgeable in Mexican cuisine and culture. It made the experience so much more enjoyable! We have been coming to Vallarta for many years but have always been intimidated by taco stands. This made us feel more comfortable and now we can’t wait to go back to these stands! We definitely recommend doing this tour!!
A wonderful and filling tour! Our guide was AnnaLo and she was truly great. First off our uber was 10 minutes late so we arrived late to our tour and were so worried. AnnaLo was accommodating and totally understood the circumstances. AnnaLo was informative, funny, and engaging. We went to such wonderful spots and were absolutely stuffed. Many in our group agreed the fish taco at Marisma Seafood was the best but truly every place was great and the portion sizes were spot on. Could not recommend more, definitely something to do no matter what area of the city you’re staying in and best on your first or second day so you know places to go back to!
Annalo was a knowledgeable guide who brought us to fantastic places. Our favorite was Carnitas Itas Don Gil. We would highly recommend it.
Awesome experience! Our tour guide was Anna Lo she’s super knowledgeable, kind, and very attentive. We wanted to try something different and saw other recommendations about the tour, I’m glad I booked it. Tacos were amazing! We learned how each food stand specialized in something specific. How the stand was started and that eventually it was passed down to family members, sometimes expanding to more food stands. We loved everything we ate and enjoyed the specialty waters that each stand creates. My 10 year old daughter who is not an adventurous eater tried things. She learned she enjoys soft tacos to crunchy ones. My favorites were the carnitas and Birra crunchy taco. I highly recommend booking this tour if you are ever in Puerto Vallarta. Vallarta Local is such an amazing company to work with and they are women owned, LGBTQ friendly, environmentally friendly, and focus on charities.
Annalo was excellent as a tour guide. Showed us a side of Puerto Vallarta most don’t experience. Authentic tacos - each place had history you could taste. Loved them all but don’t miss Mi Esperanza and carnitas Don Gil!
Not just a food tour; this is a 2+ hour story of the local vendors, their relationship with the city, and their history. The food is amazing, too, and Chacha knows each stop on a deeper, personal level. By the time you’re done, you’ll feel like you know some of these people on a first name basis, and you’ll want to come back again to PV just for this experience. We severely underpaid for this tour, given the quality of service!
ChaCha was an incredible guide. Fun and encouraging to practice speaking Spanish with. SO MUCH FOOD! Women and Mexican owned company that gives back to the community! We revisited the spots to eat many times during our trip.
We had the pleasure of doing a private tour with AnnaLo, and she was absolutely wonderful. One of our planned food stops happened to be closed, but she pivoted instantly and asked what we preferred instead. She ended up taking us to a beautiful handicrafts shop and a delicious candy store, which made the tour feel even more personalized and special. This was actually our third tour with the company, and the consistency is incredible. On multiple occasions during our walks, past guests stopped our guides just to thank them for their recommendations — which tells you everything you need to know about their impact and reputation. We even spotted our guide Chacha eating at one of the taco stands from a previous tour, which made us laugh and also reassured us that their recommendations are truly legit. All the food stops are locally owned, clean, fresh, and have great turnover. Even with sensitive stomachs, we felt completely comfortable and well taken care of. The guides are knowledgeable, warm, and clearly passionate about local cuisine and culture. This food tour remains one of the absolute highlights of our trips to Puerto Vallarta, and we can’t recommend it enough. And one important note: book directly through their website. Doing so allows more of your payment to stay with the guides, the business, and the local community — and they genuinely deserve it. A must-do experience every time we visit. 🌮✨
Star was a great tour guide! She took care to explain everything we were eating and why she picked certain taco stands. Everything was excellent! A great way to spend a morning!
Excellent tour highly recommend. Chacha was a great guide and very knowledgeable. She knew so much about the city and the places we ate at were delicious, the food and drinks. Take this tour, it’s by locals, women ran and supports locals.
Our group of 12 had an incredible time on this private tour in PV with ChaCha & Star. From start to finish, everything on this tour ran seamlessly. ChaCha was our engaging, knowledgeable guide who seamlessly brought the history and culture of Zona Romántica to us, and Star was our stellar support, running ahead to each stop to make sure everything was ready for us, before we arrived. We really felt like they cared about us and our experience, and we genuinely appreciated the overall community-focus we saw behind everything they did. The food and drinks were the absolute stars of every stop! The places we visited really felt like off-the-beaten-path, hidden gems (with prices that blew our minds). The walk between stops was easy for the wide range of ages in our group, and absolutely necessary with how much food we ate. My husband (the skeptic) even commented how it didn't feel like your typical, pushy/sales-y tour. Our friend even went back to Tacos Los Morenos EVERY SINGLE DAY after! We were afraid he might not make the flight home. Kidding! We highly recommend doing this tour at the start of your trip so you can discover all the best local spots early-on. It was the perfect mix of culture, flavor, and heart that we were looking for. And we will absolutely book with ChaCha & Star of Vallarta Local the next time we’re in Puerto Vallarta!
My wife and I had an incredible time on this taco tour! We explored a variety of taco stands we would never have discovered on our own, and every taco was absolutely delicious. Our guide, Annalo, was fantastic—warm, knowledgeable, and full of fascinating insights about the dishes and local history. She made us feel like we were catching up with an old friend. The two other guests on the tour were delightful and added to the great vibe. If you’re a food lover like us, this tour is well worth the price. I’d wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone!
My friends and I received a private tour with ChaCha and had a fabulous time. We were able to try tacos from 6 different locations and ended with a paleta. PV is exceptionally touristy so it was so nice to be able to eat food that locals eat, which honestly is above and beyond anything you’d receive in one of the places on the streets near the beach. She also answered a lot of our questions about the culture and had a great sense of humor. A fabulous tortilla :p
So glad I took the taco tour! Our tour guide (and also owner of the business) Star went above and beyond to make sure we were well-fed and well-informed. Even though I have some familiarity with Mexican food, I still feel like I learned a lot and would not have tried some of the things I did without her guidance. I also love the commitment to zero waste and that some of the profits from the tour are donated back to the community. I highly recommend it to any foodie visiting Puerto Vallarta!
What an amazing experience with the Vallarta Local Food Tour! Our guide, ChaCha, was incredible — her energy and enthusiasm were contagious, and you could tell how much she loved sharing Puerto Vallarta’s food culture. We visited several taco stands along the streets and tried a delicious variety of local eats, including fish tacos, quesadillas, carnitas, and tacos de cabeza. Every stop was a treat, and the flavors were incredible! ChaCha also introduced us to different types of agua fresca, which were the perfect refreshment. What really stood out was ChaCha’s deep knowledge of the history of Puerto Vallarta and how these taco stands fit into the local community. We got to explore places we would have never known about on our own, and it truly felt like a behind-the-scenes look at the city’s vibrant food scene. If you’re a food lover or just looking to experience Puerto Vallarta like a local, this tour is a must! Big thanks to ChaCha for making it such a fun and memorable culinary adventure!
We've taken several food tours in different countries, and this was one of our favorites. Our guide, Cha Cha, was incredible—she shared so much knowledge about Puerto Vallarta, the local businesses we visited, and of course... tacos! We can't recommend Vallarta Local enough!
We absolutely loved our experience! Cha Cha was an amazing guide and we learned so much about the area. It was so important to learn about local flavors and to support small. family owned local businesses. The food was fantastic. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone.
The tacos were amazing, but pairing it with a walking tour led by a wonderful local guide (shout out to Anna Lo!) who shared about the area, PV history, and food culture took it to the next level. It felt great to get more familiar with the area by walking around it, and since they keep the groups small it was really personal. Highly recommend Vallarta Local and would love to do more of their tours in the future!
If you’re heading to Puerto Vallarta and want to eat like a local, Vallarta Local is the way to do it. This 100% Mexican, family-owned business—run by the incredible Cha-Cha and her wife—offers more than just a food tour. It’s a delicious deep-dive into the heart of the Romantica Zone, packed with culture, flavor, and community. Our tour started bright and early at Carnitas Don Gil, open daily from 8 to noon across from Los Mercados. We kicked things off with a crunchy carnitas taco—but if you want a personal tip, go for the taco dorado de papa con carnitas, sin chili. Pure crispy, savory heaven. Next up was Tacos Mi Esperanza, where we had a grilled steak quesadilla and a juicy, marinated pork taco that came with fresh-squeezed juice. Flavor-packed and satisfying. Then came Tacos de Cabeza Guzmán—a true local experience. These tacos are made from parts of the cow’s head. We went with neck and cheek (so tender!), but adventurous eaters can go for brain and other cuts. At Tacos Chanfay, we were served a crunchy birria taco with a side of rich birria broth—absolutely mind-blowing. A must-try for any taco lover. One of the most unique stops was Tortillería AltaVista, where we got to see firsthand how tortillas are made fresh daily. The smell alone was incredible, and learning the process gave us a new appreciation for every taco we ate after. Our last savory stop was Marisma Seafood for what I can honestly call the best fish taco of my life—a smoked marlin tostada that was bursting with flavor. The marlin was cooked to perfection, and again, all family-run and full of heart. We were too full for dessert, but the final stop is usually La Michoacana, known for its wide variety of popsicles, sorbet, ice cream, and juices. If your stomach allows it, definitely go for it. What makes Vallarta Local stand out isn’t just the amazing food—it’s the connection to the community. Every business they partner with gives back, and Vallarta Local itself supports a local charity monthly. You’re not just eating, you’re contributing. They also offer tequila tastings and photo shoots, so you can make a full experience of it. I highly recommend booking a food tour early in your trip so you know exactly where to go back for seconds (and thirds). Just make sure to come hungry—the amount of food is no joke!
My boyfriend and I had a great tour today with AnnaLo! She was super fun and easy to talk to and was very knowledgeable on the area/the taco stands we visited! It was a great way to start our vacation as we already know where we want to go back to eat! Would recommend to anyone visiting Puerto Vallarta to learn about the city and taste authentic food! Really nice way to support local as well!
Star was an excellent guide! We saw the beautiful city and had the BEST tacos in Puerto Vallarta. Star also taught us about the history and tradition of tacos in Mexico.
So much fun to tour and eat with a great guide. The tacos and the local connections were amazing. I would highly recommend this tour.
Such a great tour! We went to places we would have never even thought to look for tacos. Star showed us another side of Vallarta, the local side, not the tourist side. She encouraged any and all questions and we appreciated her honest answers about other places to eat besides the few taco places she took us. Definitely go on this tour to get to know the real Vallarta!
Excellent tour of some of the authentic taco stands in Zona Romantica. Every taco we had was very good but my personal highlights were the fish and the head tacos. Our guide Annalo (spelling?) was great and did a wonderful job of explaining some of the history of the area as well as the different types of tacos. The various fruit juices and the popsicle at the end were wonderful additions to the tacos. My wife and I appreciated that we did get plenty of walking in but at the same time it wasn’t far between each stop. Highly recommended! This tour is run by a locally owned company that supports dog rescues in the area - so nice to hear that! We will definitely come do another tour the next time we’re in PV.
Cha Cha is the absolute best. Don’t miss this tour. You’ll learn so much about Puerto Vallarta and tacos. Esmerelda’s tacos are to die for!!!! Delish!!!!
The tour was amazing. I can't believe we didn't do this sooner. Our whole taco world expanded past al pastor tacos!!! We had no idea of what's out there or even how to order different tacos. AnnaLo was a fantastic tour guide and the amount of information she shared about Vallarta history and the background of each place we visited was amazing. This went far above what we expected. Our culinary choices in Vallarta totally expanded past the "usual" places we go and into a new world of choices. Yep. I'd highly recommend this tour.
Our tour guide Cha Cha was fabulous! So many fun tasty stops for tacos and great conversation and insights into local history/culture.
Food was delicious and plentiful! Star was an excellent guide who demonstrated the dedication and pride that the vendors put into their food. Highly recommend
It was an excellent tour and I highly recommend it. Cha Cha was extremely knowledgeable and full of pride for her country. The 5 street taco stands we went to were all unique and delicious!b
A great way to explore PV. Cha Cha was a wonderful host - very knowledgeable about all things PV / tacos. Every taco we tried was excellent . Make sure you skip breakfast before the tour - there’s a lot of great food to try.
Amazing tour. Very informative, almost could not eat all of the tastings, you really get a lot for your money. Only tour owned by locals, they donate to food banks and animal shelters too. Very lovely guide (Chacha, co-owner). Food was delicious. 100% recommend. Not too much walking, good time of day before the heat to do the tour (starts at 10am). Lots of information about the historical aspects of the food we are eating, but also about PV in general, which I much enjoyed. Thank you Chacha
