Bit of a long walk through the reserve, interesting enough initially, but gets a bit tedious as time goes on, as there is 3km of boardwalk one way. Guide was great, really knowledgable, and tried his best to show us whatever he could spot.

Reviews
Picked up an hour late with no communication, no responses when text or via Viator, very vague responses to calls. Tour itself was pretty standard for lake sandoval as its quite standardised due to the restrictions. Guide started off giving interesting insights along the walk out, but these went to near zero from the boat onwards, where he just chatted to one person in Spanish, with half the group being English speaking Lunch was better than expected, although expectations were set low due to previous reviews and other tour experiences. Overall not a bad tour, but being on a high traffic path wildlife spottings will be limited.
This was a great way to spend the day. We saw great scenery and lots of animals. The walk through to the lake was beautiful and fully boardwalked so no super muddy shoes.
Fantastic tour. Organiser/agent picked me up from overnight bus. Guide was great - enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the Amazon rainforest environment. He was also very adept at steering the boat in the lake - made a big effort to get us close to the animals. Tour was great value for money and included a lunch (rice dish) which was good quality
3 km board walk each way but once at the lake we saw monkeys birds cayman otters piranhas Bring a hat and sunscreen and water
The tour itself was decent. Similar to description, you take a 45 minute boat to the island, then hike for about 1 hour, then canoe inside Lake Sandoval for a few hours with a lunch break in there, then hike back, and boat back to Puerto Maldonaldo. We saw trees, birds, and monkeys. The company picks you up from hotel/airport, but you are on your own getting back to hotel. They gave a chicken with rice wrapped in a tree leaf for lunch, but no drinks. I was sick (flu) during the trip, so I didn't eat it until I got back to hotel and the canoe part got me dizzy and i had to lie down the last half of it. That sucked, but not the problem of the tour. Only weird part was the tour guide never once checked on me. I didn't expect him to, but felt kind of weird he didn't.
It was OK, nothing special. Not a bad excursion, but maybe overrated based upon the other reviews. The "walk" was on a boardwalk through the jungle which was fine but no sighting of any animals because it is so well traveled. It was not clear that we would be returning the exact same route versus an alternative route back. The lunch was delicious. Our guide was great Being out on the lake was HOT! with no cloud coverage. Lower your expectations and it will be enjoyable.
Our guide Silvestre (hope I got the name right) has really an eagle eye and was able to show us many incredible animals. He also explained how the ecosystem works and how different species behave.
This experience was amazing! in particular the guide Paulo. He really made me enjoy the experience at fullest!! I would really recommend this
Very nice tour if you are short of time and do not plan going deep in jungle. We enjoyed the lake and our tour guide was very knowledgeable and showed us different birds species and monkeys 🐒
the lake is absolutely stunning and the trip to get there is interesting and a decent workout (1.5 miles thru jungle but on nice boardwalk the whole way). my guide miguel was very fun and fill of info, he really worked hard ro make the trip so good. we actuall did see plenty of monkeys, otters, birds and turrles. only gripe i had was i waited quite a while for trip to get started and the organizers came to pick me up twice my hotel after i had been waiting at their offices
We had such a great day! Samuel, our guide was really knowledgeable and passionate about the rain forest. We saw loads of wild life. The rain forest was stunning. So was lake Sandoval. It was paradise. Lunch was delicious too! A trip well worth taking, good value for money.
Package was good, it takes you to the hiling spot by boat (30min) then about 1 hour hike to the lake where you can spot a caimans, otters, birds, turtles, spiders, snakes, incredible flora and monkeys. After the lake canoe trip, we stayed for about 1h30min at a camp where we had lunch and enjoyed a rest from the heat under the trees. You could buy cold drinks there. Lunch was included and much needed. What gave it the 3 star rating: - we were picked up at 8h50 - arrived at the tour "shop" where we were told to wait until 9h40 for departure. - at 9h50 we all walkes to the river's edge (boat "station") - waited until approximately until 11h to get on the boat, that's when the tour actually started. - at the return in Puerto Maldonado, there was no transport back to the hotel.
Juan, our guide, was very good, providing detailed account of flora and fauna enroute. Pickup from airport till drop off- all aspects of the tour were as per schedule and as promised.
I want to start off by saying we had a great tour and a lot of fun. The tour company did not see our reservation so they weren’t at our hotel at 9 am to pick us up. We walked to the company’s building and they managed to get us in a car and drive us to the port but we were 45 min late and it didn’t seem like we were with the correct tour group. We weren’t given much direction and I don’t even know if we ended up on the same tour as the one we booked. After that, our tour of lake Sandoval was amazing! Our guide, Franklin, was so knowledgeable and funny. You take a boat for about 30 min to the tambopata reserve and then walk 2.85 km on a flat boardwalk to a smaller boat. You then go around the lake for about two hours on the smaller boat and walk the 2.85 km back. We saw caimans, agoutis, capuchin monkeys, many birds, as well as incredible flora. It was a super hot day and our guide was very mindful of keeping us hydrated and in the shade. Bring bug spray and sunscreen and lots of water, especially if it’s a hot day!
Pick us up at the hotel's pier at 10am, take a 25-minute electric boat ride to Lake Sanwar and kick off the day. The tour guide was conscientious and saw monkeys, spiders, caiman crocodiles and lizards.
Great discovery with our guide who really knew what he was talking about. Very interesting explanations. Although I understand a little Spanish, I was the only French and wanted to know if I understood and translated some words to me. Thank you to him and this amazing visit
Very nice small group excursion with pick up directly from our hotel by boat. Our guide was perfect and introduced us to the fauna and flora of the lake. Contrary to what we expected, no mosquitoes In addition, with a very good value for money. We recommend
A very pleasant day through the jungle, along the Madre de Dios River and Lake Sandoval. The Gonzalo guide has made us enjoy the environment, if flora and fauna. We saw some animals We had rain but very relaxing inside the canoe. Carry umbrella or water poncho 👍.
Very good experience and half the price of the hike offered by our Pension. Small group. Samuel was friendly. We saw several species of monkey, a tarantula, otters of birds and butterflies Provide plenty of water it is very hot and humid We did not dare to touch the lunch (transported in banana leaves and stored at room temperature, watch out for turista....)
You don't always see animals and the tour didn't quite match the description, but the guide was very personable and it was still nice
Beautiful sunny day on Sandoval Lake Caymans, turtles, herons, ibis .... Very good guide Very good experience
