Itinerary
Gateway to the Valdes Peninsula. In the area you can see wild guanacos, and a few kilometers plus a stop with bathrooms and be able to appreciate both gulfs, the Nuevo and the San Jose. Also stop at an interpretation center where you will learn about the local fauna.
We will cross the Valdes Peninsula, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where we will make a kind of safari crossing the entire peninsula until we reach Caleta Valdes. The Peninsula is the second best place in Argentina to see Fauna in its natural environment. We can see guanacos, piches, choiques, maras, gray foxes, killer whales, sea elephants, sea lions, penguins and many types of native birds.
We can appreciate the coastal landscape of La Caleta, and how it opens its arm towards the sea. We make 2 stops, one in a small penguin reserve, and another in Punta Cantor, to see marine elephants in a natural station, and to make use of bathrooms.

This trip is not to be missed. It was well organised by SIB. Our guide Emilia and driver Gustavos were really enthusiastic and passionate about this special UNESCO designated countryside. Driving through this gorgeous land was fascinating. Emilia and Gustavos pointed out all the wildlife they could find on our drive to the various sites. We saw Sea lions, Armadillo, Elephant seals, Guanacos,Rhea and a Gaucho plus Argentine Mocking birds, Turkey Vultures, oyster catchers ground nesting owls and much more. Emilia was informative on many aspects of the flora and fauna and also the geological formation of the land. I was concerned about our vegetarian boxed lunch but I was pleasantly surprised with the delicious lunch. I could not eat it all!
The trip mirrors the cruise ship offering, but at a much lower price. Long day, but lots of wildlife seen. The trip lasted nearly 8 hours, much of which is traveled on the comfortable bus, with the very knowledgeable guide providing commentary. There was never any problem getting back to the ship in time for the afternoon departure, as our trip was always about 15 minutes ahead of the similar trips provided by the cruise ship. Overall, I would recommend this trip as a way to experience a very different landscape and see some interesting wildlife.
We had a small group of 4 couples in a small van - perfect size! Our tour guide spoke English and Spanish fluently and provided lots of interesting information. The drive was long - but comfortable. The elephant seals and seal lions were observable from at sea level from the tops of ridges. The penguins were very close to us, and a small wire fence prevented humans walking in their areas. A tasty box lunch was included.
great tour, way better than the cruise ship tours. Very personal. our guides were friendly, knowledgeable, and bent over backwards to give us a "wow" experience. Great communication and would definitely recommend to other travelers. Thanks1
Our guide was great and the group was small as they told us. There was many penguins in the reserve, a unique experience!.
We went to the visitors' centre which was informative before traveling on to see the penguins and seals. On the way we were fortunate to see a maras, the funny little dog like hare only found in this part of the world. We also saw a little burrow owl sitting at the front of its home, an armadillo and guanacos which are like llamas or alpacas. The Valdes Peninsular is extremely different from anything we have seen before...sort of green runnels in the low tide almost like looking at a newly planted vineyard...with seals popping up here and there.
Wonderful visit to this unique world heritage site Nani our guide was enthusiastic well informed and organised a great tour
You didn't tell us when we booked that it would be a 2 and a half hour journey to Peninsula Valdes, and then 2 and a half hours back with the last hour on a gravel track with the bus slipping and sliding. 5 hours on the bus for 30 minutes, on the peninsula. It was absolutely pouring with rain and we saw 5 sea lions about 400 yards away and about 3 to 4 penguins and that was it. Absolutely pathetic. I know you have no control over the weather, but the day was that bad that Princess cruises refunded their trippers their money back and it would be a good gesture if you did the same. This was by far the worst trip we have ever been on. There was a 170 kilometre on board a bus, of the most boring scenery, which was yawningly bad. 30 kilometres of the road was rough track like something out of the film MAD MAX. On arrival at the beach we saw, 3 Magellan penguins close up, 20-40 feet away. Perhaps 6 elephant seals on a beach at a distance of 3/4 mile away Plenty of seal lions on an island about 1 mile away, which we could hardly see due to the sea mist. We did get to see a burrowing owl next to its burrow 10 yards away, and 3 armadillos about 40 yards away, while the coach was moving. That was it !!! The cost was £94.48 each.
We had a great day on Peninsula Valdes. The van and tour guide were on time at the port, picked us up in a comfortable van. The driver was professional. The tour guide - Mariana - was very friendly and knowledgeable. She shared a lot of information about the flora / fauna of the peninsula, the history and culture of the region. We spent an awesome day! We saw Magellan penguins, sea lions, a hairy armadillo, guanaco (lama) mara and more... I do recommend this tour.
The young lady who was supposed to translate into English - was unable to a) translate even the most basic words & had no Idea how to use a microphone! Totally useless & should NOT BE EMPLOYED AGAIN!! The German/Spanish lady knew her info & was very keen! We could actually understand her even though she did not speak English because her diction was clear!!
This one we are mixed on. The tour had a guide who did not speak English, but seemed to be knowledgeable. She would communicate a message to an interpreter and then the interpreter told us. It sure lacked continuity and I know the messages did not come out well, so we missed out on some key education/information opportunities. Also the mic/speaker in the van was bad and it broke up all the time so we missed out on more. The Van driver was awesome and spotted wildlife that was amazing along the road and in the fields. Would recommend it, but get a good van and if you are an English speaker, get an guide who speaks English.
The tour guide was terrific. However, the bus was old and driving on dusty unpaved roads was challenging. Also, we did this same tour about 15 years ago and the difference in proximity to the wildlife as well as a gargantuan increase in the number of visitors compared to our previous visit was stunningly disappointing. It is now mass market.
Wonderful variety of wildlife including guanacos, rheas, maras, an owl, penguins, and sea lions. We just missed seeing furry armadillos. The only downside was that the guide's translator struggled with English and with the bus's sound system.
Guide, driver and guide assistance were very good. The tour was good. It’s like a long ride to watch some marine animals from kind of distance
Interesting day on the Valdes Peninsula. Long bus ride but worth it for the opportunity to see elephant seals, penguins in their natural habitat. Very well organized tour - professional and warm tour guides
2+ hours on rough gravel roads and all we saw were a few penguins up close and a few sea lions from a distance. Our guide spoke Spanish with little English, so another person was there to interpret. There just wasn't enough to see to justify committing a full day. A tight-fitting van didn't help matters.
We ended up having a private tour for the two of us. Our guide was great--good English, friendly, and provided in depth animal/nature info. He also responded to our need for walking and getting up close, while driving many back road miles. Great adventure.
Wahnsinn!@
Excellent, thanks to Captain, guide Matias and photographer Stiven. Passionate about whales. We saw whales within reach, jumping, showing the tail. Unbelievable. We'll always remember
It was simply fantastic! Maria is an excellent tour guide. We were a small group and she explained everything so well and in detail. We can really recommend this tour. Frank&Beate Berlin
