Very long day with all the driving and it was very hot, but we did see lots of wildlife Stopped at the centre and got my passport stamped, only time whilst I was in Argentina. Kept stopping so that we could see the wildlife., but will admit travelling was slow and bumpy. Saw plenty of different seals; Elephant and Lion, saw Magellanic Penguins, Guanaco, horses, I think sheep and a Rhea. Pleased I got the chance to visit, and see some wildlife in Argentina. There were good parts and bad (travelling and transport broke down; air conditioning stopped), with that in mind I scored average
Loved seeing seals for the first time! Baby seals were so cute to watch playing in the water. Views were stunning too. My only complaint was that all the information centres/displays etc the descriptions are in Spanish. I felt a bit lost and not able to appreciate the significance of things because I didn't understand. Although our guide did a wonderful job 🙂. She knew alot about the local wildlife. Driver was great too safely stopped every time the group asked so we can take a photo of the animals.
We saw lots of different animals. Carla was very interesting and knowledgeable. She kept us well informed...
Drive for 2 hours 30 minute through a desert to get to the beach. The viewing area was at least 120 meters from the animals. We were only there for 50 minutes. A lovely beach but not really worth the cost and time. Bring binoculars. All in all a disappointing experience
We ended up on a tour with just my spouse and I. Roberto was our guide for the day where he treated us like family. He is so knowledgable and passionate about his country that it made for a very enjoyable day. We were fortunate to have good weather with the winds not being too dramatic. Roberto knew so much about every place we went to visit that we got a very vivid idea of what life is like in Puerta Madryn. There was a lot of wildlife along the way to admire. We did see sea lions and seals but the penguins seemed to have taken the day off from viewing as they were no where in sight. Full disclosure, the sea lions and seals are only able to be seen from above on an overlook. Best practice for the animals but there were no up close pictures of these creatures. Our lunch was delicious and plentiful. We did eat in the car as the wind had picked up and it was more comfortable to eat without all the dust. The roads on the peninsula Valdes are all dirt roads that have been have been graded and covered in gravel. It was a smooth enough ride but there is a lot of dust. Puerta Madryn is very different than we had anticipated with the incredibly arid conditions. We were happy that we got a taste of the culture on our short visit.
The scenery once we got to the location. The wildlife was as the guide advised, no guarantees as it depends on the time year for each species. That being said, we saw everything we hoped to see. The guide, Martin was excellent. A lot of the tour was driving over very rough roads
The tour was taken Friday Feb 2nd, 2024. This trip is a long drive of approx 2.5 to 3 hours (from Puerto Madryn)with stops at a Visitor Centre, a viewpoint for seals and a viewpoint for penguins. There are few seals and few penguins. Both are located on beaches below a cliff at a distance. Our tour guide provided average service. We saw another tour guide providing explanations in the Visitor Centre and at the stops along the beach. Ours did not. The microphone did not work well so people in the rear of the van had difficulty hearing. I cannot recommend this tour as it is not good value for the price.
Viatours gave the wrong ship name to their tour guide (NCL rather than Viking), & they did not respond to my ?? the night before tour, asking if 8a was ok to get off the ship, as we had come into port the prior evening. Where they didn't respond, we got off at 8a. We could not find their guide, called & they advised the tour had already left, could not come back nor provide another guide, admitted their 2 mistakes. We thankfully were able to get on a Viking tour, but if cost us $658 for 2, rather than the $300 we paid them. Yes, they refunded our $300, but we felt they should have also credited our CC the additional $358 we incurred due to their mistakes. They refused to do so. We booked 4 Viatours for this cruise, 1st 2 were excellent, 4th will be in Montevideo on 2/10, which I've already confirmed directly with our private guide so don't anticipate any issues. It's the lack of covering our extra costs incurred due to their errors that has us very upset with them, otherwise they do fine.
Good trip, collected and returned to cruise pier without problems. Saw penguins, elephant seals, walruses, burrowing owls, guanacos and rheas . Good packed lunch. It is a lot of driving, and the countryside is repetitive but the guide, Martin, and driver were very good at finding wild life and we were given a lot of interesting information. Well worth it.
Lots of wildlife! Bumpy road but well worth the drive. Lunch was huge and good. Good guide and driver
Martin did an excellent job of locating and explaining the flora and fauna of the Valdes Peninsula. He was knowledgeable, kind and very fun to spend the day with! We of course saw oodles of Magellan Penguins, sea elephants and Gunacos, but he also took us to see a huge Sea Lion colony and reas and a group of young owls learning to fly. What a wonderful experience!
Our tour was very disappointing as we were jammed into the van like sardines. Even worse our guide was extremely hard to hear despite her English being good. All the information was lost in a jumbled garble and only 10 minutes at the penguin colony but longer at the sea lion lookout. That was a waste of time and we were expected to sit in the hot bus and eat our lunch.
Well organized. It was a long bumpy ride, but worth it to see the penguins and elephant seals. The tour guide and driver were excellent
It was a great trip. Seeing the seals was just magical. Our guide Emily, was absolutely brilliant (Emilia). The rough road is tough but it wouldn't stop me recommending the trip.
The best part of the trip was viewing the penguins and elephant seals. The drive is quite lengthy and the viewing of the seals is from quite a distance.
Awesome tour with much wildlife and excellent tour guide and driver. One of the best wildlife tours we have ever been on. Very organized as well.
We had a fantastic day with Fernando showing us around the stunningly beautiful Penninsula Valdes. He was timely picking us up, gave us great information about the area and the animals we saw, and was friendly and helpful throughout the day. I would highly recommend Fernando and this tour to anyone who is up for the adventure!
The penguins were the highlight. Saw so much wildlife. An incredible day that we almost missed because of windy weather. Carolina was very informative of the area.
Martin the tour guide was very knowledgeable and a wealth of information. Excellent public speaking skills. Gustavo was great at sighting wildlife and stopping to see it and take pictures. Thank you for a wonderful day. The lunch was just perfect!
We had perfect weather for our tour day (February 6, 2023), with cloudless skies that made it spectacular for wildlife viewing and taking pictures. Our tour with Sentir Patagonia was well organized and very enjoyable. Our tour guide Diego was friendly and engaging, spoke fluent English as well as Spanish, and gave us a lot of detailed information throughout the day on history, geography, culture, and the native flora and fauna of the area. We saw guanacos, elephant seals, sea lions, and Magellanic penguins, and a few other bird species. The penguin colony was especially interesting because they're not afraid to get close to people, so you can get great individual pictures. The only minor drawback was the long drive to and from the east end of the peninsula, but the sightseeing once you get there is really worth the effort. We would definitely recommend this tour company and our guide Diego to other travellers.
After arrival at the port, the staff from the tour operator was easy to find and Emilia was a very good tour guide! The driving time is about 5 hours in total, as there are about 300 km to drive. But they do several stops for watching the wildlife of the Peninsula Valdés, so that time went by very quickly. The tour operator knows the times when the people from a cruise ship have to be on board again, so that we came back to the port right on time. At Puerto Madryn, there is not too much traffic, so that there should be no delays to return. The tours from the cruise ship did the same intinerary, but you sometimes pay twice as much as for this tour from an independent operator.
Unfortunately our guide didnt speak well. But "the translator" did speak worse. So the whole travel they tried to get across their tellings but interrupting each other all the time in spanish or english leading to the point where nobody understood anything anymore. The nature on the peninsula was great, the view points for sea lions or sea elephants were disappointing as the animals were hard to spot in the distance. The pengiuns were adorable and we got to see other animals like owls, the pampa rabbit-dogs and loads of guanacos. I enjoyed the day but I wished the guides were a bit better prepared for that high price. The bus in total payed neraly 2000 $, so I feel a good organized and well explained trip could be expected.
Great closeup view of the penguins! Lots of llamas along the way with an informed tour guide giving us interesting facts and stories so the drive didn't seem too long. The Peninsula itself is beautiful with sea lions and seals, but no whales at this time of the year.
Patricia was our tour guide and I don’t remember the name of her interpreter. The van was very noisy because of the up paved roads. Although I spoke directly to the interpreter about speaking into the mike and even told her how it was done on other tours she only did it for about five minutes. So with four hours in the van we heard little of what was said. Additionally, on the return trip they carried on a conversation with the people in the front seats making us feel like we weren’t there.
An extensive and wonderful day. Beto the guide was informative and had excellent English. Pedro the driver did his best to stop when an interesting animal came in view. We met Magellanic penguins, just feet away. The nature reserve had good facilities (incl cold beer) and fabulous access to Elephant seals, armadillos and wonderful views. A day to cherish.
The trip was great and our tour guide Cristhian was really friendly and helpful. Only the many emails from TripAdvisor were superfluous.
Super trip in a small group - individual explanations about the country and people. The blue balloon was already clearly visible from the ship. We'll be back!
