Our guide was excellent and provided us with a solid foundation to Prague. His timing was really good, but yet flexible so that they’re extra things that we want to see he was open to anything.

Itinerary
To get to Prague Castle, we get off the tram at a stop past the Castle to avoid crowds and have a walk through the co called New World quarter which is incerdibly picturesque and basically empty.
This is one of the most attractive sanctuaries for St. Mary in a monastery-like setting, with a breathtaking church and a treasury. Recent research has found out, that large parts of its mystic legend turned out to be true.
This is Prague's attraction no. 1, thus often crowded. We will decide on the spot if we want to walk through. It's most interesting object is the cathedral, the unusual location of which has both religious as well as political reasons. In this context I'll give you a detailed idea of the amazing genesis of the Gothic style - an insight which you will hardly get in any other tour. It's one of my favourite subjects.
This is a very pretty, but also very touristic street. We soon turn right to St. John's Hill, a quiet neighbourhood that once housed many Italian artists. Why and when I'll tell you in detail - it's another story closely linking art, religion and politics.
The beautiful central square of the so called Lesser Town, full of architecture, history, tales of religious upheaval, baroque splendour and espionage stories from WWI.
We're approaching Vltava river, arrive at a very pretty little square and the church as well as the embassy (!) of the Maltese knights, further to the palace of the French embassy which we might be able to visit upon prior request, to the Lennon Wall which is, alas, only a sad remnant of what it once was, and to Kampa island, a beautiful green oasis with a few very interesting attractions.
A wonderful little contemporary art museum in a former mill and the largest collection of František Kupka, one of the pioneers of Abstract Painting. One of my favourite museums, initiated by one of the most interesting women of Prague's recent history. We have her biography in our library, and I'll tell you the amazing story of her career.
If Charles Bridge is too busy we cross the river on the Legions' Bridge which leads us to Old Town and to the National Theatre. It played an important role in the country's fight for independence in the 19th century. I have to give you a detailed introduction to that.
We will walk criss cross around Old Town - according to what you've seen already. I'd rather show you the less known attractions and would like to give you an idea on how Medieval villages became cities and how much of this is still to see in Prague with its 1000 years of history.
If we still have enough time I'd like to finish the tour over a cup of coffee at Prague's Municipal House - the city's most beautiful Art Nouveau building with a concert hall, an exhibition space, two restaurants and a gorgeous café. This will give me the opportunity to tell you the genesis of Art Nouveau.

I enioyed walking Prague with our guide Gunther and learning about the history of Prague and the Czech Republic.
This day walking tour was intensive and extraordinarily insightful. Gunther is alert to your interests and questions, and happy to pace exploration to individual needs. Cannot more highly recommend but do wear your best walking shoes!
Günther is a 10 star guide. If you want someone who loves history, culture, and art he’s the guide for you. His knowledge is unmatched, his ability to adapt is remarkable, his genuine love and pride for his country showed in abundance, and his strong character and integrity are obvious when he discusses anything. His energy is like that of a 20 year old and I think he would win a marathon if he wanted to. He is the type of guide that helps you when you’re sick by locating the closest pharmacy, communicating with the pharmacist for you to get the necessary medication, then locates restaurants that have soup to help you, then locates the closest market and helps get drinks for the ill person. He repeatedly checked on my sister when she fell ill and was genuinely concerned for her well being. He made many adjustments within our 4 day tour of Prague, Cesky Krumlov, and Vienna because of illness and life. He pivots with a smile on his face, like I’ve never seen before. He would simply ask, “How can I help? He offered up many recommendations from food to restaurants to stores. He does not receive any funds from any of the above, he just knows what his customers like and should see when visiting these amazing places. He is passionate about his subject areas- which are extremely vast and most passionate about his customers enjoyment in viewing any city. He was thoughtful and as two women traveling alone, we felt so safe with him. He made sure we entered our hotel when he left us for the day, carried our bags, which was a huge help, and spotted me crowns and euros when necessary. I have never met a guide like him and truly don’t believe I ever will again. He is simply remarkable! Whether you book him for a day, week, or month he is the best guide you will ever get. It’s always a great sign when others are calling and trying to book him when he’s with you. We were so lucky that he was able to work us into a four day span, as he’s in such high demand. He speaks 5 languages fluently(English, Italian, German, Czech, and another one) and conversed with taxi drivers, waiters, and shopkeepers for us. We hope you are able to spend some time with this dynamic tour guide(he’s so much more than a tour guide, I hate to use that word). We look forward to booking him for our next tour.

This tour allowed me to have a better understanding of the historic events taking place in Prague during the period of construction and development of the various sites visited. Guenther is very knowledgeable and an excellent communicator.
We walked around Old Town and visited historic sites that are not normally visited by tourist. We learned about Chech history and the people who lived in this country.
I spent a lovely day in Prague with Gunther, a brilliant historian who brings a wealth of knowledge and insight into one of the most interesting and complex cities in all of Europe. I learned so much about the history, politics, architecture, culture of Prague and its inhabitants. Gunther knows the city backwards and forwards, and was able to craft a highly enjoyable walking experience that told the city's story in a coherent and accessible fashion. Most importantly, Gunther skillfully designed a route thay avoided the city's sizeable crowds - which is no easy feat. I highly recommend Gunther's Ultimate Prague History Tour, and look forward to working with Gunther again in the future and recommending him to my friends and colleagues.
We enjoyed the personal service. Gunter did a wonderful job of explaining the history of the Czech Republic. We saw so much in Prague! We definitely recommend Gunter. The primarily walking tour with some public transportation was at our own speed which was great.
Guenther was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable about the history of Prague and its hidden spots. He was also very helpful when my wife's wallet was pickpocketed, liaising with the police and taking us to report to the embassy. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Prague.
If you have ANY questions about the history or architecture of Prague; its castle, museums, churches, statues, or hidden places for a great cup of coffee, where to eat, and what tourist traps to avoid, then this is your tour! Gunther customizes each tour, based on what you want to see and hear. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute and every mile.
Guenther presented this city like we have never experienced before with a guide in any other city.... simply sensational. You quickly realize that for Guenther it is much more than just a job, it is his enthusiasm and joy , his incredible knowledge of history and architecture that make him so remarkable as a guide. And that is exactly what made these two days we spent with him so extraordinary. Not to mention the absolutely charming idea to make a tour through the best coffee houses in the city, which, in addition to architectural "wow effects", has always provided the necessary energy by means of Bohemian pastry specialties. In any case, Guenther made sure that we have already planned our next visit to Prague.... and there is no doubt who we will have again as our guide.... Guenther!
Günther was a great tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and gave me great ideas about where to visit the rest of my stay. He clearly has a passion for history.
Guenther was a fabulous guide This was my first time in Prague and he provide me with a very complete and historical introduction of the city I highly recommend the tour and to and to ask for him as your guide
The tour focused on early history from 12 to 18th century whereas I am more interested in 1900’s onwards Gunther is a gentleman and we spent a lovely day together, it was just not quite tailored towards my interests.
What an amazing and intellectually stimulating way to spend a day in beautiful and historical Prague! The Past comes to life indeed :-)
Guenther's classical education is enriched by his passionate autodidactic worldview. But what's probably most important, that he does it for pleasure, for himself, as much as for his audience—and his pleasure is contagious. He makes you think and he makes you want more. And he goes far beyond the tourist cliche, though he can give it to you—if you insist :) and then take you beyond into tiny or deeper detours, depending on your interests and curiosity. Can't imagine better way to spend time in Prague—worth his weight in gold. Can't wait to return to Prague for another tour.
Where to begin? Guenther is the most well-informed host you could wish to encounter. He's approachable, enthusiastic and is genuinely interested in his guests getting the most out of their visit. He knows just about everything you could want to learn about this fascinating city from architecture to street markets and social history to musical entertainment. What's more, Guenther leads guided walks based on different themes as noted in his guidebook, sent to AirBnb guests, 'Funtastic Prague'. We had him as a personal guide for a whole day and it was a delight - we asked him to choose a theme. We looked at things we didn't know were there, visit places we'd never heard of and dined at a place we may not have been brave enough to try without his guidance. We can't recommend one of these tours enough As a linguist Guenther covers German, French, Italian, a bit of Arabic and his English is better than mine...and I'm English.
After three days in Prague, checking off all the highlights, there didn't seem to be much to enjoy in Prague. Then I found Guenther-Karl! We actually do two day tours because I could have done 30 with him — he is that good. He took me to Groebe Park, the former garden and villa of a railway millionaire from the 19th century with its grotto, waterfall, and pond. We saw the Belle Epoque buildings of Prague 2 and Le Palais hotel, the former meat factory where they produced Prague Ham. We passed Europe's 1st maternity clinic that looks like an old English castle, and then headed to Vyšehrad, Prague's 2nd castle hill with its great views to all directions, and its cemetery with the graves of famous Czechs including Smetana and Dvořák. Ahen rode back to the city to see its oldest part, its city hall and the chapel where Jan Hus famously preached, the first reformer 100 years before Luther. But that's the itinerary — what it doesn't capture are all the questions I fired at him about everything from history to culture to customs to religion... and he untangled Prague's history for me in a way no book or tour or castle ever could. Prague can be a tough city for a toothy American because its history has meant generations of people are rightfully wary of outsiders — but Guenther helped me fall in love with the Grande Dame and I've missed her ever since.
In May, 2018, we had the amazing privilege of having Guenther as a private tour guide around historical parts of Prague. I had heard about his tours via a blog, and was not disappointed. Guenther has a deep, rich knowledge of the history of Prague (as well as Europe), and his enthusiasm added to the all-day experience. There were many remarkable parts of the city we would not have seen had it not been for our time with Guenther.
The day I spent walking beautiful Prague with Guenther, was absolutely the highlight of my stay. He is hands-down the best personal guide I have ever encountered. He is not simply concerned what showing you what to see. He digs to find out what kind of experience you want to have, how you want to FEEL. And then that is what he provides. I came home not just with a deeper, wider, and more emotional knowledge of Prague, its beauty and its history, but also with a new friend. My recommendation to walk Prague with Guenther could not possibly be stronger or more heartfelt. You're welcome.
We spent several days in Guenther's Guesthouse in Prague. Guenther provided us with many valuable informations for our own sight-seeing. But the best part of the visit was one day on a city walk with Guenther. He chose a special route weaving across the city, crossing the main sights, but also many special places apart from the crowd. He shared his deep historical knowledge with us. We were enriched with many precious informations about Prague's History in the context of european history and the contemporaray situation. Thank you very much, Guenther, for this special day!
It's hard now to remember one favorite part of our tour, except having the chance to spend the day with Guenther and having the *best* tour of any city we've ever experienced! Really: Guenther knows so much and the perspective he invites you to experience is unique. When you pay for a tour, you want something other than the 'live' version of what you'd get if you guided yourself using a book. Guenther *is* that: you'll see a Prague you never would otherwise and in the *best* company. Do it! This was a while ago (early than the dates provided in the drop down below), but Guenther is a wonderful host and a wonderful guide!
Our group got the perfect guided tour of Prague. Günther Krumpak has incredible historical knowledge and makes the tour very interesting, he has an answer to all questions immediately. Great if a guided tour not only goes to the well-known hotspots and can thus also show the real Prague. Thank you for this great tour.
Great guided tour, you learn a lot about the history of Prague, and much was tailored to us personally. We learned a lot and still felt almost like locals, not tourists
Our tour with Günther Krumpak started with the way to Vysehrad, Prague's 2. Burgberg. Past Hotel Le Palais, the former factory of the famous ham, a birthing clinic - which looks like an old English castle until we arrive at our first stop in Vysehrad. For all these buildings and sites, Günther gave us extensive historical data and facts as well as stories from everyday life at the time. Impressive! We could not get out of the first astonishment, as it was already going on. At the Vysehrad we visited the Medieval Market, immersed ourselves in the medieval flair and enjoyed a wonderful Ostepok, the Slovak barbecue cheese. Günther thus gave my wife a beautiful childhood memory and memory of her grandfather. After this beautiful experience we are then on to the cemetery there, where the famous Czechs, such as Smetana, Dvorak etc, are buried. It is not strange to visit the cemetery, it is part of our culture and Günther knew a lot about it. Günther's knowledge of the history of Prague, culture and ways of life of anno back then and now is very impressive. Not only the knowledge but also the way to tell, with wit and humor as well as with appropriate sensitivity on various topics. Günther is a true living lexicon! In addition to the many informative things, we also laughed a lot, had fun and chatted about a wide variety of topics. It was a beautiful day with excellent leadership. We have already done many guided tours - theme specific - but this one with Günther Krumpak was clearly the best. More than professional, packed with wit, fun and humour and a ton of knowledge and information, passed on in a well-dosed manner. We can only warmly tell Günther Krumpak if you want to have an unforgettable Prague experience - far from normal tourism to the exquisite. The price-performance ratio lags, because the service is worth far more than the price that has to be paid. Highest quality at a low price, coupled with lots of charm. Günther, we will be back and we highly recommend you to any Prague visitor. Günther has given my wife and me an unforgettable day! Thank you!
Highly recommended! Amusing, informative Super Tour Away from the 08/15 tours. This is how you really get to know the city i d your history.
We undertook a special guided tour of Prague with Mr. Krumpak, organized by the Association of Austrians in the Czech Republic (VÖT). It was a great experience and a pleasure for us to experience the well-founded and lively historical narrative about Czech history and also about details that affect the district in Prague.
We had booked a guided tour of Prague for 7 hours. The old town, the castle, ..... everything that belongs to it and what we wanted. Mr Krumpack gave a very informative, not too detailed introduction to Prague of the past and present. So we have been able to classify many things we have seen and heard over the course of the day. We could ask questions about whatever. Mr. Krumpack knew. We have seen many wonderful places that we probably would not have found on our own. With the 7 hours we did not manage the planned program. Did we ask too much? Or did we go too slowly? In any case, two days later we made up for the remaining destinations and booked new ones directly. This is how we got to know village and old industrial structures. There is still so much to see and hear. So we already know that we will come back.
We did a half-day tour of Prague with Günther Krumpak in July 2020. Günther has made us some suggestions, and since we know the city (superficially :-) ) well, we decided to go on a tour through historic village centres in the fabric of the city. It was incredible to walk very close to the old city again and again from a main traffic axis through a wild path and stand in the middle of an inhabited village centre to reach the next traffic axis a few meters further. The tour was accompanied by a very competent and vividly presented historical outline, which outlined the development from Roman times to today's Czech Republic and developed a lot of understanding of the history of the city of Prague and Czech self-confidence with us. The places visited are really insider tips that you won’t find in any guidebook and that no other organizer will offer. We are happy to make another tour with Günther on the next visit.
We spent a very exciting day in Prague with the guided tour. Many insights into historical events, large and small, culture and everyday life. All age groups (child over teenager to adult) were very satisfied.
