Taking this food tour with Chris through Prague offered a rich introduction to cuisine, culture, and history. Chris is deeply informed about Czech culture, not only as a local but also from years spent researching and writing a recently published book on the evolution of Czech cuisine (Evoluce českého jídla); through that work, he gained even more depth of knowledge of the food and history, which emerged clearly in his stories. Chris paid close attention to detail and made sure we enjoyed ourselves; naturally, the food was outstanding, standing apart from other tours we have joined. He guided us to several upscale gems in Prague that serve authentic, well-prepared traditional dishes. This was a wonderful introduction to our stay, and we highly recommend it!

Wow! Christian made us feel very welcome as we started the tour. His knowledge and passion about Czech food is inspiring. We loved the history of The Czech Republic and all the different topics we talked about. The food on the tour was amazing, the soup as a starter was the tastiest we've ever had (better than mine). We enjoyed walking off the food between courses. If you're coming to Prague make this tour a priority even if you're not a foodie.
My spouse and I enjoyed a tour of Czech food and history with company owner/founder Christian who was well informed and quite passionate about his country and the food. We ate a lot of delicious food whilst learning about a culture and people that is very rich. There is some walking but very doable-our tour day was raining and still was not a problem! We made three main stops for food with a final coffee/dessert stop at the end. I ate more than enough and he was able to accommodate mine and my spouses pescatarian diet very adequately. Who knew there was such delicious fish in Czech Republic? I know now! Highly recommend Christian and this food tour!
Christian was very personable and extremely knowledgeable. Not only does he talk about Czech traditional foods but took us to places where the traditional have a modern twist. The food and the beverages was fantastic. Highly recommend. You get a nice tour and fee well!
Such a great tour! We try to do a walking, bike, or food tour in every city we visit. And this one was one of the best we've had by far! Highly recommend doing this tour on day one or two of your arrival in Prague for many reasons. Chris knows and loves the food and history of his city. We learned a ton about the local cuisine and what sets Prague and The Czech Republic's food and drink apart from other places. Food is truly at the heart of every culture, so trying local cuisine sets you on a path for higher learning about why and how that cuisine came to be. This is where Chris shines as a guide who clearly has a ton of knowledge and passion about where he comes from. Walking around learning about the history of the city can also help you decide what you would like to explore further during your time there. There is so much more to a city than the tourist trap areas and instagram-worthy spots. Being able to speak with a local about what sets their city apart can help make the most out of your time there. Highly recommend this tour!
Going on a food tour is a hallmark staple in any vacation my wife and I take. I even paid $750 for a high end food tour in Paris. I can wholeheartedly attest that Chris's food tour in Prague is the best we've ever been on. When I plan, I go big on research. I found several quality food tour operators in Prague but only one of them was a published food author: Chris. I researched him further and learned that he was published by one of the major book publishers in the Czech Republic (i.e. he wasn't a self-published Amazon author which anyone can become). So his book had to go through rigorous review and copy editing prior to being released. That was an immediately distinguishing feature because I'm familiar with the publishing world and understand how rare and selective it is to get published by a major publisher. Further, reading through articles featuring Chris (with the help of Google translate) cemented my commitment to sign onto his tour. The experience itself met and exceeded my expectations, which were already set very high. The tour itself was very well thought out. Technically it's a tasting, but Chris set it up to deliver a full meal with an intentional appetizer, beverage tasting, main entrees, and dessert. His knowledge of the food, history, culture, and local eateries is all top notch, and what I appreciate about Chris is that because he is an author, he's very thoughtful in how he conveys that knowledge to an audience. I've been on tours where you have to pull information out of guides. But Chris has put together a really nice and well thought out program that seamlessly takes you through both culinary and historical highlights, scratching every curiosity you could think of for each topic of examination. Not only that, he's very warm, sociable and personable, which heightens the overall tour experience. I agree with another review that Chris's tour is an excellent thing to do on your first or second day in Prague. Not only that, I was able to message Chris directly through his business's Facebook page and he provided incredible restaurant recommendations prior to my visit that made planning meals a breeze. Not only that, he was able to connect me with a driver for a private transfer I requested to multiple towns and he got me the best price of any operator I inquired with. What I really wanted above anything was an authentic experience. So when Chris walked us up to a food stand with rotating pork shoulder, claiming to be "Old Prague Ham", I was amazed when Chris explained how it wasn't actually authentic. Like authentic Champagne or Parmigiano Reggiano, authentic Prague Ham has exclusive, rigorous production standards. Chris took us to one of the few places that sells authentic Prague ham and it was delicious! There are a few places that sell it because it's laborious to make compared to "Old Prague Ham" which takes shortcuts and liberties. There were so many Trdelník stands throughout Prague—as if every block had one. Chris explained that too is a cultural imposter, made famous by social media targeting uninformed tourists, and he took us by three different shops that sell authentic Czech treats. For our main entrees, Chris ordered a selection of classic Czech meats, including Prague Ham, that were so delicious. We had the original meat loaf, which is so much better and nothing like the American meat loaf I grew up with. That's a taste I'll never forget. We also had a cola made by a pharmacist back in the old days that tastes like Coca Cola but is made with real sugar. I also got to taste the original Budweiser (Bud Var) and a couple of authentic Czech spirits. Just as memorable as the food are the stories Chris told us about the history of Prague. I'll never forget sitting by the Jan Hus Memorial as Chris revealed the history of Jan Hus and the 30 years' war as well as any historical research expert could. He also pointed out architecture, took us to a nice park to have our dessert, and had the answer to every question we asked out of curiosity. I 1000% recommend Chris and his tour. Book it and you won't be disappointed!
This was a great food tour! Chris picked authentic Czech food from very high quality restaurants. The food was great but he also gave us deep history and background of the city, as well.
Chris was a fantastic tour host. He was extremely knowledgeable about food, national and global history. We loved all the food choices he selected and thoroughly enjoyed his company. I would 100% recommend this tour for an introduction to Prague and all it has to offer. Try it on your first day but don’t eat anything beforehand.
A Must Do tour for Day 1 in Prague. An excellent introduction to the old city of Prague , its long and varied history and culture and above all its food and drink. Chris was an excellent guide, knowledgeable, interested and interesting, willing and fun. Do not have breakfast first. Do it.
I have to say that this is one of the best tours that I have ever been on (and I have toured a lot around the world). My only regret is not doing this tour on our first day in Prague! Christian educated my family group on food history by combining it with the history of the region (and the world at times). He is extremely engaging and his passion for food was evident and shone through in his choices of the traditional food and the locales in both the Old Town and New Town. The food was just delicious and we left with very full bellies. I highly highly recommend Christian’s Prague food tour and will be encouraging everyone I know to head to Prague! I guarantee that you will not be disappointed!
A great tour with Christian through the old and new town. The food, drink and places we ate in were amazing - and filled with locals, which is always a great sign. I learned so much about the history of Prague and the connection to its food. It’s a brilliant way to start any trip to Prague and I’d highly recommend it.
What an amazing tour! Everything about this tour was fantastic. We went to total of five different restaurants in old and new town. Each place had a special dish or drink. There was plenty of food, you will not go away hungry. Christian provided an educational tour, including the history of Czech republic and lots of history of food traditions. Especially loved the Christmas fish story!! Was a great introduction to Prague and would recommend to anyone coming to the city. A great way to get away from crowds and have the best food in town.
This is a terrific food and history tour in Prague. The tour took us to 5 locations where we sampled different local cuisine. Through the tour, Christian provided just the right amount of history to help us understand the importance of the food we ate and why it matters in the context of Czech republic. All the food we tried was delicious. And there was plenty of it. You will not go away hungry! The tour took us all over old and new town Prague, proving a great sample of places to go, and great places to eat. It was our first day in town and could not have been a better experience. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys food and would like a local's advice on where to go and what to eat.
We loved learning history about both Prague/Czech Republic and the food. The walk was easy and the stops for food and beverages were well timed. There was way more food than we expected and all was delicious. We even went back to one of the restaurants for dinner the next evening. We made a stop at a really cute gingerbread store, wish we would have had more time to shop, but, it was early in the tour and it wasn’t really about shopping…. The small group size (6 of us) made for a very intimate tour and ease with hearing the guide and staying together. We highly recommend this tour!
Highly recommend the tour with Christian! Nice food and interesting facts! For sure you should try to do the tour in the beginning of your trip to Prague!
Christian graciously combined the history and food of the Czech Republic on our tour of Prague. This would be an excellent tour for the first day.
Great tour of Prague seeing some highlights with Christian. I would highly recommend on one of your first evenings in Prague. He showed us some great local spots, some traditional local food, and had a great knowledge of the culture and history of the area.
Great 3 hours with Christian. Hit all the marks for a pleasant evening. Highly recommend, able to answer any questions , offered us many suggestions for our time in Prague.
Christian took us to various resturants in the old city of Prague. Both new and old ones. He gave us great background information as to what we were going to eat and how it came into the Prague food scene.
Excellent food tastings and tour of Old Town. Christopher was very knowledgeable and presented the food tastings well.
Guide was great, very interesting guide to central old town with multiple food stops and vast amounts of good food (don't have breakfast...)
We really enjoyed our three hours visiting a wide range of Prague's most interesting places to eat. Not just restaurants, but a brewery (who doesn't like Czech beer?), a deli, and a bakery. Our guide put some real thought into the locations, and shared lots of Czech history on our walk.
This was an excellent food tour. Our guide, Christian, took us to a number of places where we tried traditional and modern Czech food and beer. Starting at a modern fusion restaurant with a take on a classic dish. Then a beer tasting at one of prague’s Local breweries. After that we went to try a selection of meats and cheese from a local butcher. Then a traditional Prague pub to sample a number of Czech classics (the roast duck was outstanding. We went back there for dinner the next night). And finally dessert at a pastry shop. Everything was wonderful and Christian was very knowledgeable about both the food and local history. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Prague.
Chris was a great guide and the food was fantastic at all the stops but the duck, pork neck, dumplings and cabbage at the penultimate stop was an absolute stand out. Highly recommend.
We had a fun tour of Prague and tastes of Czech food and beer on this tour with Chris. The other four tourists were good companions and the tour happily ran an hour over time! We tried the local meats, beer, dumplings and pastries after starting the tour at Food Lab, a modern Czech restaurant that so impressed us we went back the next night for dinner.
Our family of 5 had a great tour with Christian. It was the first activity that we did when we landed in Prague. He showed us around his beautiful city and we sampled food and drinks from several different places. It was a perfect way to learn some history about the city while enjoying traditional Czech food and beer. Christian was a terrific guide! Don't miss out on this great opportunity with Christian:)
Chris is a great food tour guide. He made us taste excellent Czech food and explained about the traditional ingredients and what influenced the Czech food. Chris is also a great story teller, he told us about many historical events relevant to the places we visited. He was also very attentive to the group's needs. I really enjoyed this tour and highly recommend it.
We booked this tour for the first evening in Prague. Kristian was a kind and attentive guide and is a great ambassador for Prague and the Czech people. Great to learn about the countries deliciouses and how they how they relate to the country’s history. We revisited a few of the places later in our trip! We found the guide was the most impactful for our experience. Thank you Kristian.
Chris’ food tours are small and intimate. It was my husband and I and a family from Russia with a 3 yo and a 14 yo. So tour is for all ages. Chris did a great job of showing us true Czech food and giving us a lot of history about the Czech Republic. Would highly recommend
I was very excited to sign up for this tour. I am going to Prague in 2 months. We are a group of 8 people. Chris said he could accommodate all 8 of us on Tuesday August 27. When I went to put in the number of people I could only put in 6. I wrote Chris and he promptly wrote back telling me to put in 4 people for the 27th and 4 for the 28th. I said I was a little apprehensive but he said no worries he would know that’s we were all going on the 27th. I paid $295.24 x 2 on June 9. After I paid my $590.48 I wrote Chris asking him to send me an email that stated my tour for 8 people would be on August 27. I never heard from him. I again wrote on June 15; no response. I wrote again on June 20 saying I hope everything is alright but I have not heard from you. Today June 28 still no response from Chris so I cancelled my tour.
Super easy to find Chris at the meeting point. He is very personable, speaks english fluently, and we got lucky that it ended up raining, so the streets were not packed (like they were the rest of the trip). He has lots of interesting information about the local food spots and breweries. Definitely wear walking shoes (instead of sandals); most of the roads in this part of Prague are cobblestone, and there are lots of pedestrian only sections. Highlight for me was the spot where the first Pilsner was poured in Prague. Beer selections were good too. Definitely something for everyone.
Not only do you go on an amazing food tour with Chris, you get a lot of food and Prague history as you walk from restaurant to restaurant. Chris made sure we didn't have any allergies or food aversions, and once it was established that we like everything, we were off. The garlic soup appetizer at the first restaurant (where we went back to for a full meal) was to die for (accompanied by Slivovitz). The samplers of beers at a local brewery/pub gave us a flavor of many of the local beers available in the region. Next stop was a gourmet butcher shop where Chris ordered a fabulous charcuterie and cheese plate. Just when you thought it couldn't get better, we had delicious duck and dumplings in a beer garden. And finally, we went to a pastry shop for an assortment of heavenly pastries, which we ate in a nearby park. This tour was one of the highlights of our trip and if you are looking for an intimate food tour, this is the one!
poor Chris he was expecting 4 tourists for his tour but only the two of us appeared. nevertheless he was very professional and took us along streets and around the back alleys which we would never have found to some fascinating places. We went for a starter in one restaurant which was excellent - then he took us to see some buildings then we went for a traditional main meal, then another place for a dessert,. Went to a pub where they brew their own beer and tasted about 6 different beers. Went to a traditional butchers shop and a church and finished off in Wenselas square. it was well worth the money for the 3 and half hours of very informative facts about Prague.
This was my kind of tour. Chris was an outstanding ambassador to his city. It was a great mix of good food, good drinks and information. Chris had a nice mix of historical info as well as a history of the food and drink we were consuming. It felt more like you were just enjoying the local cuisine and drink and having a nice conversation with a friend. My wife signed us up for this and had no idea what we were in for and was pleasantly surprised. Highly recommend.
Chris is a fantastic, friendly guide with a wealth of local knowledge and passion for food and history. Relaxed walking tour, taking in the sights and landmarks along the way with Chris explaining the local history between stops. The food is excellent and well chosen, taking you through Czech traditional quisine and beers. Highlight of our short stop in Prague. Thanks Chris! -B&L
Very authentic experience I must say. Delicious food and our guide was very personable. He went beyond to make sure we were happy so now we are definitely doing more tours in the future with this one. Thanks again! R+L
We really enjoyed this tour. Our guide was very informative, and fun to be with.Food tastings were great, we got to taste 5 kinds of beer! Small amounts of course,.. but you can have more if you want! Our favorites were mini-dessserts.
The tour was great and chris was an awesome guy! He knew a lot, was sincere and took the time to get to know us. Cant wait to do another food tour in Budapest.
I chose the local food tour based on reviews I read. We learned a LOT about Prague and really enjoyed our guide. It was only me and my partner who joined the tour so it felt really private and tailor-made. We ate a lot during the tour, and me and my partner totally agreed it was worth every ‘koruna’ J
Our guide was fun and told us a lot about Prague and its history. food, buildings, and the old town neighborhood. cool food, cool fun and a great way to learn about Bohemia!
Had a great day in Prague with our guide Chris. This tour was a cool way to sample various local delicacies from family-run shops and restaurants. We also got to know a lot of background history of Prague. Thanks for a great tour!
we were a group of four friends and we really enjoyed the tour! Chris was very knowledgeable and engaging host, the stories behind the places and specialties were perfect. Tastings were delicious, would definitely do it again!
This was a very interesting experience getting to know the places and information you wouldn’t normally discover on your common visit to Prague unless having tried this Tour, since presenter of this guide is very knowledgeable about the local places, food and drinks, linking it to the city and to everything that is important about it. The guide was also very flexible and able to tailor the tour just as was best for us.
