Itinerary
Step into the heart of Czech history and explore the magnificent interiors of Prague Castle with a knowledgeable local guide. For more than a thousand years, Prague Castle has stood at the centre of Czech history. Kings, emperors, presidents and religious leaders have all left their mark here, and today the castle remains one of Prague’s most iconic landmarks. On this guided tour, you’ll discover its most important historic buildings, hear the fascinating stories behind them and see some of the most remarkable interiors in the castle complex. Your tour begins with a convenient entry to the castle. Skip the ticket-purchase line and use the short security line before heading inside with your guide.
Start your visit in St. Vitus Cathedral, the spiritual heart of Prague Castle and one of the city’s most impressive Gothic landmarks. Admire its soaring architecture, colourful stained-glass windows and richly decorated chapels, and hear stories about the kings, saints and important figures connected with the cathedral. You’ll also have the chance to see the tombs and chapels that make this one of the most fascinating places in the entire castle complex.
Continue to the Old Royal Palace, once the seat of Bohemian kings and the scene of important royal events. Step into the magnificent Vladislav Hall, a spectacular late-Gothic space that hosted coronation celebrations, banquets, knights’ tournaments and other major events. Your guide will also bring the palace’s dramatic history to life, including the famous Defenestration of Prague, when two royal governors and a scribe were thrown from a window in 1618, helping to spark the Thirty Years’ War.
Next, visit the peaceful St. George’s Basilica, one of the oldest surviving churches at Prague Castle. Its Romanesque architecture creates a striking contrast with the grandeur of the cathedral, while its historic interior and centuries-old atmosphere offer a glimpse into Prague’s medieval past.
Finally, wander through the charming Golden Lane, a narrow street lined with tiny historic houses. Originally home to castle guards and later associated with goldsmiths, the colourful cottages give a fascinating insight into everyday life at Prague Castle. The lane has also been connected with famous figures including Franz Kafka, who lived in House No. 22 during the First World War.

This was a great night. Three generations laughed, ate and enjoyed the food & beverages! Highly recommend!
The interiors of Prague Castle are truly breathtaking. The combination of stunning Gothic, Romanesque, and Baroque architecture creates a unique atmosphere that reflects centuries of Czech history. St. Vitus Cathedral is particularly impressive, with its magnificent stained-glass windows, soaring ceilings, and intricate details. The historic halls, chapels, and palace rooms are beautifully preserved and offer fascinating insights into the lives of Czech kings and presidents. A visit to the interiors is both educational and inspiring, making Prague Castle a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Prague. And the guide absolutely amazing.
A great walking tour, Katarina is very knowledgeable and friendly. Please do not use the Tripadvisor app to get to the meeting point, follow the written address provider.
Another bad experience with trip advisor
Our guide was excellent and informative. She went into details and was very knowledgeable. We really enjoyed our tour!
When looking at Prague Castle, there really is only one word that comes to mind: WOW. I must have said it to myself a hundred times during this tour! Our guide, Anna, was truly delightful. Born and raised in Prague, she is incredibly proud of her city and heritage, and her passion for Prague and its history comes through in everything she shares. I only wish we had more time in Prague because I would have booked another tour with Anna in a heartbeat! There is so much history within the Prague Castle complex that it can almost be overwhelming, which is exactly why having a knowledgeable guide makes such a difference. Anna helped connect the people, places, and centuries of history rather than simply walking us from one beautiful building to another. As a woman, I found myself particularly drawn to the women woven throughout the castle’s history. This wasn’t specifically a tour about women’s history, but Anna’s stories made me notice just how much influence some of these women had while also navigating the enormous limitations placed upon them. Maria Theresa especially fascinated me. As the only woman to rule the Habsburg hereditary lands in her own right, she wielded tremendous power in a world where female leadership was anything but simple. She was also the mother of sixteen children, including Marie Antoinette! I loved hearing about women like St. Ludmila as well, one of the earliest and most important Czech saints and the grandmother of St. Wenceslas. The stories of these women, their influence, their faith, their struggles, and the expectations placed upon them added another dimension to the history that I found fascinating. Then there was St. Wenceslas himself. I had known the Christmas song “Good King Wenceslas” practically my entire life, but I had never really stopped to consider that Wenceslas was an actual historical person, or that he wasn’t technically a king during his lifetime! He was a 10th-century Duke of Bohemia who was later canonized and became the patron saint of the Czech lands. Suddenly seeing his history throughout Prague Castle, including his connection to St. Vitus Cathedral, made a Christmas song I had heard countless times take on an entirely new meaning. Those are exactly the kinds of connections that make a great historical tour stick with you long after it’s over. And then there is St. Vitus Cathedral. I honestly cannot find the right words to adequately describe its size, complexity, detail, and beauty. It is simply something you need to stand inside and experience for yourself. If you visit Prague, this cathedral is an absolute must-see. Our timing also turned out to be wonderful. We were lucky enough to see the changing of the guard and a military procession during our visit. The cathedral had also recently reopened, and we were able to see its magnificent new organ. Knowing that this new addition represents another chapter in a Gothic cathedral whose construction and evolution span roughly 700 years made seeing it even more remarkable. We finished the tour along Golden Lane, where the tiny historic houses offer glimpses into the lives and occupations of people who once lived and worked within the castle complex. We saw displays representing trades and residents such as an herbalist and other craftspeople, along with some of the more colorful characters associated with the lane. The contrast between these tiny homes and the grandeur of the castle and cathedral was fascinating. And then came the prison and dungeon. Seeing the collection of historical torture devices was one of those moments when you stare at something, understand what you’re looking at, and still cannot quite wrap your head around the fact that human beings actually devised these things to use on other human beings. Even when the official tour was over, the experience wasn’t. The walk back down toward the city was filled with wonderful little shops, cafés, restaurants, and beautiful views, so I would recommend leaving yourself some extra time afterward rather than rushing off to your next activity. Prague Castle is magnificent on its own, but Anna brought its history to life. Between the castle, the cathedral, the people who shaped its history, Golden Lane, and a few perfectly timed surprises, this was one of those tours where “wow” seemed to be the only appropriate response. If Prague Castle is on your list, I would absolutely recommend seeing it with a guide rather than simply walking through on your own. There is just too much history here to appreciate what you are looking at without someone who can connect all the pieces. This tour gave us so much more than access to beautiful buildings. It gave us the stories, people, and history behind them. Book this one. And if you’re lucky enough to have Anna as your guide, consider yourself very lucky. We only had two days in Prague, and this was absolutely time well spent. If we’d had another day, I would have happily booked another tour with her in a heartbeat!
It is a wonderful itinerary although we weren’t notified ahead of time that the Palace was closed. Our guide Martin was very knowledgeable. However the tour seemed more like a lecture. The guide made little interaction or eye contact with the participants. Orange umbrellas were not visible to find the tour.
Our tour with Viktor was extremely informative. He is a wealth of knowledge about Prague and its history. Visiting the Prague castle interiors is a must WITH a guide. I highly recommend this tour.
Wonderful historic experience of the Prague Castle! Our guide Manuel was extremely knowledgeable of the venue. We came away with many fine memories.
The tour was very busy with many tourists between 11am-1:30pm. I appreciated the walk through the gardens as it was beautiful & peaceful. I would have preferred more reverence in the St. Vitus Cathedral and Basilica of St. George as they are active places of worship and not merely museums. The Golden Lane was very busy with tourists. I would have enjoyed the Golden Gate earlier in the day as it was very crowded at 1:30pm. Overall the guide was very helpful.
Meeting place address does not show up when ordering Uber. Our guide was given the wrong ticket for our tour. It was very slow moving and not very informative
We booked this tour for our first visit to Prague Castle and were really happy with it. Our guide was very knowledgeable but also kept it relaxed and interesting. We saw all the main interiors and learned a lot of things we probably would have missed on our own. The 2.5 hours went by really quickly. Would recommend if you want to actually understand what you’re seeing and not just walk around the castle by yourself.
AMAZING tour! the guide was wonderful and the meet up point was very accessible by tram (and i would also imagine by metro). everything you would need was included, and the guide was super knowledgeable! we didn’t move too fast so it gave everyone a chance to see/take photos without feeling left behind. not too many stairs at all! 10/10 would recommend :)
Ross had the history down! Very interesting tour! We saw some great views on our way up the hill, and once we got to the top of the hill. We caught the changing of the guard…. Very cool! The inside of St Vitus Cathedral. The tomb of King Wenceslas.
You see a lot in 2.5 hours. Myar our guide was knowledgeable and friendly and responded to questions. Patient with slow members.
Wonderful tour. Learned a lot. Highly recommend. Our guide was very knowledgeable. You must take this tour. It was extremely helpful that we wore ear pieces and could hear our guide above all the chatter inside the cathedral and palace. Other guides were shouting to be heard.
I really enjoy visiting the castle and cathedral. We had a great guide, Ana. But I bought the skipped tickets which was not skipped line at all. So I was waiting like everyone for an hour or so to visit each castle.
The tour was very informative and engaging. Jane was a great guide and explained everything very clearly, so you wouldn’t miss anything.
Lovely trip with a fantastic guide. The trip includes a tram ride up the hill and entry to several locations at the castle. It’s very informative and the castle is beautiful
Very good tour of the castle. Only 2.5 hours but got to see a lot and very good narrative from the guide.
Such an interesting tour. Our guide was very informative and told us so much about the history of the buildings. We struggled to find the meeting point (the taxi driver took us to the castle entrance) but I messaged our guide who arranged to meet us at the next stop just inside the castle courtyard which was so helpful. Definitely a trip worth doing.
Tour guide was almost running during the tour. She talked and walked so fast and you don’t have time to look at anything. She didn’t hold umbrella high enough to keep in sight. She was just worried about getting through the tour route on time. She didn’t keep group together and actually lost us for one of the areas until we found the group 30 minutes later. I would use the audio guide and save money and learn more.
I have been through the castle four times and I learned more this time than the previous three. The guide was personable and articulate, with the right blend of humor and historical information.
Very good tour with lots of history. Ross was our guide and he was excellent. He made sure everyone had what they needed and could hear him. He was knowledgeable.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed hearing about the history of the country and the sites we were visiting.
Veronica was terrific! Tour was very informative and just the right amount of information. Weather was perfect too
Unfortunately I cannot remember our tour guide's name but she was wonderful. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Overall it was a great experience.
We bought tickets to Skip the Queue Prague Castle Tour 3 hours before the anticipated tour was to depart at 11am on the same day. The confirmation email with the tickets did not arrive until that evening. There is no published way to contact the office with any booking problems, nor is there any published meeting point, we couldn't even cancel the tickets as we received no email. We used PayPal to pay and although they originally found in our favour Headout provided them with a receipt of delivery of tickets, but no-one took into account that the tickets were not sent/received in time to join the Tour. The email is timestamped as being sent at 5.30pm that day. I understand that operating systems online can have some troubles but thought that we could resolve this issue. Unfortunately not! I have sent multiple letters to the Headout management. They are refusing to give me a refund of $104.00 Euros. Even though they have seen evidence of the electronic delivery error. When I first realised the tickets had not arrived I thought I had been scammed. Now that Headout refuse to refund I know we were ripped off. They must have had this problem previously but still have no contact details in there adverting, only in their confirmation email. ( Nice little business if you can sell a service online, not provide the service and still keep the money. Their policy states that if you don't join the tour then you don't get a refund.) Please just book your tours at your hotel and not online. After hours of trying to get in contact with the Headout people, we proceeded to Prague Castle and paid entry (again) and proceeded a self guided tour with audio. We didn't want to waste our last day in Prague. We were heading back to Australia the next day. P.S. There were no queues!
Very interesting tour of the castle with lots of details I would have missed on my own. I recommend this tour.
Very knowledgeable guide! Spent extra time in each of the churches on the grounds. We would recommend!
Ross was amazing, his knowledge of Czech’s, religious, cultural and political history really brought the Prague castle and Cathedral to life.
Hannah was an amazing guide. She is very knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions. The tour provides insights to the history of the leaders in Prague. Hanna used other documents with pictures to help us understand the historical timeline.
The guide was so informative and also gave us plenty of time to take photos. The castle is amazing, such a surprise.
We really enjoyed the castle tour and informative commentary by the guide. We appreciated the bus ride included in the price to take us up the hill to the castle.
It was a very interesting trip. Ross, our guide, was very clear and informative with a sense of humour.
I never meet the guide operator. After an hour I saw a lady I supposed was the guide and asked if she worked for viator It was her. She never contacted me. I called her several times and never answered. I bought a new tickets to enter into the castle.
Ross is very knowledgeable and tells great stories!! The comprehensive tour covers all the important sites with the necessary tickets! St Vitus was stunning both from the outside and inside. And knowing the history and tales enhances the experience!
We were unable to locate the tour guide and did not get to go on this tour. Google maps took us to the wrong location and we were given no landmarks or contact information and no information to help us locate our guide (many tours have instructions to look for the Orange umbrella, etc). All we were given was an address and we are from the US and are unfamiliar with the country. Very disappointed and we paid for three tickets and don’t even know how to get a refund
Had a wonderful guide and spectacular trip. So glad i booked it! A small group and lots to see! Meet other nice folks on the tour.
Magda was the tour guide and did a great job. She was informative and friendly and made the tour very interesting. It would have been nice to go back into the castle after the tour was over, however, the entry ticket was a single use entry, so I couldn't get back in to further explore.
Magda did a great job as our tour guide. She was very informative and made the tour interesting. I would have love to have gone back inside the castle for more exploration after the tour was over, however, the ticket is only good for one entry.
Marcella was an EXCELLENT guide. She was an absolute fountain of knowledge and was so attentive to us. We learned so much. Her energy is amazing and she is so warm, pleasant, positive and upbeat!
I experienced concerning issues with this tour company, including inflexibility with minor delays and significant internal communication gaps. Their second guide was uninformed about our situation and unprofessionally equated handing us our tickets to giving them to strangers. Alarmingly, she suggested withholding our tickets if we posted a negative review. While my intention is not to disparage, I urge the company to enhance internal coordination, customer service, and respect for client transparency. I hope this feedback helps improve future customer experiences.
Our guide Ross was the best guide we have ever had. He was extremely knowledgeable not only about the castle but Czech history and the Czech state. He made the the tour very memorable. I highly recommend if you take this your, sake for Ross to be your guide.
We had an excellent walking tour with Hannah who was super knowledgeable and showed us a lot in the time were with her. She was efficient and managed to get the whole group on to the tram and then quickly through the security by entering a back entrance. She certainly knows her history. Great insight as she walked us around the Castle complex, through the Vitus Cathedral and St George Chapel. The places are really fascinating and she did a great job of making them come to life. Highly recommend this tour that includes the entry tickets.
Jane is good and kind. He guided us in the excursion adding unexpected details and identifying with true passion to history. Bravo!
