A little disappointed, I usually take a hop-on hop-off tour on my first day in a new country because I love learning about the city’s history and getting an overview of the main attractions. Unfortunately, this experience fell short of my expectations. The commentary relies on the SmartGuide app, but it doesn’t sync properly with the stops, making it difficult to follow along and learn about the sights. On top of that, the seating arrangement makes it hard to see the buildings because you’re often sitting with your back to the windows, if you’re lucky enough to get a seat at all. The tram mostly circles around the city, and if you want to visit the main landmarks, you need to do a bit of walking from each stop. Overall, I expected a better sightseeing experience and a more informative way to discover beautiful Budapest.

This is a really cool way to see the city. It's nostalgic and fun, plus very inexpensive.
We enjoyed our ride on the old tram. We were, however disappointed with the fact that there was no commentary which meant you had no idea where you were and what was at each stop. There was an app however it was a paid app and we didn't want to sign up for it.
The older trams can give you a jolt as they set off and stop, but it’s all good fun! Staff on board are very helpful with their knowledge of Prague.
You need to get a map of the tram route in advance and decide what you want to see to make the best of the hop-on hop-off options. For anyone who loves vintage transport this is a great experience. However, it is NOT a guided tour with a commentary. Staff are very pleasant and helpful but the app that they advise you to download is entirely unsuited to providing a commentary; for large parts of the journey it says nothing, then it identifies three sights at once, trying to make it play appropriate information was extremely hard work and impossible to do and look at the sights. You also have to remember to cancel the app (not just delete it) to avoid an expensive, unrefundable subscription payment.
It was fun riding around in the old tram cars. They have several different cars ranging from the early 1900’s to the 2000’s. I loved the one with the wooden benches!
Brilliant. I recommend doing the whole loop with the tram as the first thing you do in Prague. It really gives you your bearings and only takes around 1 - 1.5 hours. The staff on board are very helpful and informative.
Its a great way to see the sights! We esp enjoyed stop #2 and walking to the mini Eiffel Tower ( the Petrin Tower) Stunning views from the top, only 300 steps to the top … well worth the climb! Nice cafes in the area of stop 2 as well
Too packed. I had to stand up for most of the ride. Couldn't see much as had to hang on tight. When I finally got a seat not a lot of information was given at each stop. I downloaded the guide beforehand but it didn't seem to sync to the scenery or buildings I was looking at. Overall quite disappointing and expensive for what it was.
Like any of these 24 hour passes, the value “depends". If you under utilise it, it’s not good value. But if you make the most of it the convenience can outweigh the cost. Being over 65 we could have travelled for free on the normal trams but bought these passes for the novelty and to save having to spend precious time studying the tram routes to try to replicate the journey. The young guides on board were excellent and the trams themselves great fun (although the ones with wooden seats were a bit hard on the backside). Was it worth it? On balance, yes, for us. For someone else? It depends…
We love trams so it was fun. We also found it the absolutely best value to have an introductory tour of Prague. We have never been to Prague and wanted to get to see the important sights. The information maps really helped. We were happy to go round town without a guided tour or audio. Trams are fun but no Aircon and a bumpy ride. Expect fun, not luxury.
We like open top bus tours and thought this might be fun. It rattled round the town very fast. Most of the stops were announced by a number, not the sites that were near them. Had to do a 10 minute wait at the end of the line, weren’t allowed to sit on the tram. They gave us a qr code to download an app for commentary when we got on. If you haven’t got free data roaming on your phone you aren’t going to bother. When we did download it (took three stops) it was an app where you got a 7 day free trial which you had to sign up for, and then you would be charged. At this point we gave up. Could be so much better.
Old #42 was best way to see old town , Anna and Marek were really great helped with tickets when I got on and explained the whole route and the turn around really was fun talking with them and seeing the city sites from the car
We were looking forward to ride this tour, using the recommended app as guide. It was really bad, very difficult to synch with the ride. And when we managed, the guide text was way to long so we got out of synch vs ride again
Very friendly staff onboard the tram and they explain everything very well. As the hop on hop off bus is terrible this is a nice alternative. However there is no verbal guide on what you see. Would be nice if they can add that. But you can also get a 24 hour ticket on the normal tram 22 that will take you to the castle and past most of the sites for a third of the price.
This was terrible. Waited 1hr40min for arrival of tram a and there were no seats Got off at 1st stop to transfer to 42B-agsin no seats. Got off after 1 stop and did not get back on. A huge disappointment. We have done hop-on-off in many cities that were fantastic-not this one!!!
This is an ideal trip as the tram goes far up the city to places you probably wouldn’t go yourselves. The guides on the tram were very friendly and helpful, Also cheaper than hop on hop off bus.
We weren’t clear of the time table ahead of time. We went to the first stop and found out they were taking a 30 minute break. The train was more sporadic than anticipated. Martin on the train was informative and brought the experience up to a three for us. I did not realize over 65 could ride all transportation for free in Prague.
This is a highly recommended experience: relaxed, informal, lots of fun but still gives you a great introduction to Prague and it's history. Our guide, Vaclav - V - has a dry sense of humour and is very knowledgeable, so the four hours passed so quickly. Prague is such a walkable city that we saw all the main sites in the Old Town and Jewish Quarter but at an easy pace that makes it ideal for most people. This is a very popular tour so book ahead to ensure your place.
A quick look online showed us the map and timetable (which you are given a hard copy of when you board). There are two trams - a 1960's tram and a 1920's tram. Staff on both had excellent language skills and spoke English perfectly. They gave us lots of hints and information on what to see and what stops they recommended. We hopped on and off a few times. Busy at weekends so we waited for a week day but if you miss one it's only 20 mins until the next. Great value for a ticket valid for 24 hours!
Although tourist tram ok it was difficult to find stops (asked 5 different tour guides who each gave us different directions (really needed a clear map before finally getting on the tram). Finally found a stop after seeing the tram in the distance and watching its route! Had little information as although we were given a link to download on phones, it took so long to sort it only saw little from tram. Once off the tram didn't bother to try and find another stop as it would have potentially wasted too much time
There are two trams, we went on the oldest tram on Wednesday morning with two fantastic ladies who were entertaining, informative and friendly. The tram was really interesting and a great way to see the city. We did get on the other tram with two much less friendly staff. One lady was fairly aggressive in her pointing, no welcoming smile or conversation.
The Tram tour was okay. The young ladies on board were very nice and helpful. Overall, the tram ride was confusing and turns out, not necessary. The trams are nunmbered 41 and 42, and they have a separate schedule from the metro transit system posted at each tram stop. The city has the same antique trams that you can ride with a 24 Hour Day Pass that costs less than this "tour." This ride is NOT a guided tour of Prague. It is only a Tram ride around the city with a brochure that lists the sites. The Tram timetable is really confusing, and there are delays between each of the pickup times. I'd recommend you do a little research before you go, and ride the public trams to and from the sites you want to visit. There are a lot more of them, and they come every few minutes instead of having to wait 40-45 minutes for the next Hop-on-Hop-Off
Some stops are missed, the schedule is inaccurate, and I feel it is a bit of a waste of time. And the classic tram needs to wait for a long time.
Very confusing. Guides on the trolly didn’t know much about the city. When asked where to get off for the Charles bridge they had to find out. Also was not aware about the daily changing of the guards. There is no guided audio like stated. It says bring your own headphone for guided audio. Once arrive ya given a map in another language to follow. I saw a QR code and DL the app. When I showed the guide the app he was unaware there was a app to hear about the sites and then informed me it was stating we were actually at stop 7 an the app was saying we were at stop 10. The app is by navigation so you can’t change to hear something else. So the “real time” app is incorrect and basically you have to get up an ask what stop is next and know what you want to see an ask them when to get off. At one point they said we had to get off it was the end of the tour an in 40 minites another trolly would comes. Then area we were dropped had nothing to do or see so we had to sit around for 40 minutes wasting time.
Excellent helpful advice on the tram as to where to get on and off. Trams were on time according to the written timetable. As with most things, do a little research first. You can buy your ticket beforehand or on the tram with cash or card. Apart from the driver, one person was designated to take payment and two others simply to give information!
Information not well conveyed about pick up. We were not alone in wandering WTF! Cute tram, goes fast but they let you know where you are. If I did it a second day I would have a better plan of when/where to get off/on. Overall, good waist of time and money.
The tram drove so quickly on the route that one never had time to find or see the landmarks. The audio guide we accessed through an app never seemed to be in sync with the locations. It was extremely frustrating; we left the route as soon as possible.
The tram was reliable and easy to catch but it should be clear on the description that this is not a tour. The ‘guide’ did the bare minimum in that he explained how the tram journey worked and passed out a map but other than that he was quite abrupt and did not interact with passengers and gave no information about landmarks or places of interest. The stop announcements are distorted so it was difficult to discern what language it was and which stop you were at so it would even have been helpful if the ‘guide’ told you which stop it was. Reasonable price for a 24hr ticket but other than that there are probably better ways to get about.
Great ride through the city on these vintage trams. Excellent and knowledgeable service on board from the great Bartmoeij (sorry if spelt wrong) - trams will show you the whole city and is hop on and hop off. Trams in excellent condition
The Number 42 tram is a great way to get between the various neighborhoods in the tourist areas but there is no commentary so plan the trip before you board. We had a couple of walking days first and had seen most of what we wanted before we purchased a 24 hour ticket for the number 42 tram which we then used to go back to a couple of places we wanted to see again. The trams are quite amazing to ride - very old and yet quick and efficient.
Poor sharing of information once on tram. Girl leading things was quite overwhelmed and it took her about 20 minutes to get to us and we were first on. Never got info/maps until reaching stop for the castle. Wouldn’t do this again. (Don’t post. This is feedback for those running this trip)
Great way of seeing many of the fabulous sights away from the Old Town. We boarded the Tram at stop 7 which was a 15 minute walk from our hotel, the tram was on time and the staff were extremely helpful. We hopped on/off at various stops during the day and every time the tram was exactly on time as per the timetable. Great value for money and highly recommended.
Great intro to the city on our first day. Not air conditioned so prepare for that. It oriented us to the city and set us up for a great first day.
Historic Tram ride was great fun, great way to get around to all the spots when its hot. Staff were super friendly and super helpful ! Started mid afternoon one day and ticket was good for 24 hrs so we rode again the next day. Went to the end of the line and had a bar meal and beer in the 30 min turnaround time. Really enjoyed it ! Recommended!
The ride on the historic tram was very pleasant. The staff on board were very nice and helpful. I found all the important attractions around the route in the online guide I received from the staff. I enjoyed the whole ride and seeing the beauty of the city. I definitely recommend this experience.
Never got to experience it as the directions given to the meeting point only brought us to shop front which had no indication it had anything to do with the tour.
This was such a fun trip… I absolutely loved it! The driver & conductors were really friendly, good fun and very helpful. There is an audio guide you can scan & download onto your phone which was really informative about the stops on the route… you need to use your own ear buds so take them with you. A great way to see Prague & to get a feel for the City in a fun way. Highly recommend!
The tram ride was a cool experience and a very helpful mode of initial sightseeing of Prague on a cold and rainy day. A ride takes one back a 100 years or or half a century, depending on the tram model. After wandering around Republic square where the tram should stop, I figured it should be at a regular tram stop and it stopped opposite the shopping mall. I got an explanation about the route by an employee who was very friendly and recommended where to change to return to the city center.
Really convenient if you are staying in the Old Town or nearby. On the weekends it runs every 40 minutes during the middle of the day (in Winter) and stops near many ofthe key sites that you want to visit. Easy to access and cheap - but there is no commentary (apparently there is an App that supplies this but we didn't use it). Easy and cheap (around $15USD for 24 hours unlimited use). On a very snowy weekend it was a great way to get around and take in Prague.
Very kind and knowledgeable guides who made sure that we got the most from our experience! Info was very useful.
Lovely way to see Prague and some historical trams. It’s a must for rail buffs and people who enjoy seeing the most important spots in an east way. When you go make sure to bring headphones with you as they provide an audio guide for your phone. If you don’t they also have amazing staff that will explain anything and everything about the city and the tram. On our tour Martin was absolutely wonderful. He speaks a ton of languages and was very enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge. My only complaint is that they run three trams, one of which isn’t much older than the rolling stock found regular lines. The other trams (the one you see in all the pictures) is beautiful though. I recommend line 42 to everyone and line 41 to those with some extra time on their hands. Being able to get on and off whenever for the entire day is also amazing. Tip: This ticket will give you 20% off at any tower (including the Petrin tower)
Excellent service. It's really easy to use, although it did get busier throughout the day, so not everyone got a seat. The stops were near all the main attractions.
Traveled to 4 stations in the morning; when we wanted to get back on after lunch, we were prevented from doing so because the vehicle was full. Waiting 30 minutes in the cold is probably not an option. You should definitely not book this, because it is not clear whether you will be allowed to board! Money thrown away!
A nostalgic ride that took us back in time!
Very nice experience, a beautiful route to admire the city
Nice experience in this vintage tram, perfect condition and friendly staff Discover the city differently
From stop 4 (castle) Strahov monastery. Visit much less frequented than the Clementinum and just as extraordinary. Thank you!
Dala jsem si nejkrásnější dárek - nostalgickou vzpomínku na MHD mého dětství. Cestu do školy, tehdy ještě z Václaváku k Národnímu divadlu. Jediná doprava bez kinetózy. Dnes dech beroucí panoramata, proplétání uličkami, které bych pěšky už obejít nezvládla. Děkuji!
We wanted to see Prague Castle again and did not want to climb the stairs so we took this tram. Happy because the ride is fast. Convenient because it is possible to get on and off this tram with the same ticket knowing that there are 20 stops to visit. If you have time to visit Prague, I recommend taking this Tram as it allows you to visit the main points of the city. We loved this tram on line 42.
