Our Insight Cities Tour of the Prague Castle was outstanding. Throughout our 12 days in Poland and Prague we had several walking tours with terrific guides, but Mariam was the best! She had incredible historical knowledge of the Castle and was an absolute joy. She arrived early to meet us and had a well thought out itinerary to navigate the crowds and ensure we made the most of our time. At the end of our scheduled tour, she provided additional guidance to us for other areas we could see, including the special display of the Crown Jewels. Great tour!

Itinerary
Discover the fascinating 1,100-year old history behind the world’s largest castle complex on a small group 3-hour walking tour of Prague Castle and the Royal District with an historian guide. This guided walking tour will take you to the imposing Prague Castle atop Hradčany Hill through the Royal Garden and over the Stag Moat. See the ancient buildings, that have been constructed and reconstructed in every architectural style, incorporating Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque, Rococo, Renaissance, and Neoclassical monuments. Learn about the Castle buildings from your historian guide and how these have been bombarded by artillery, plundered by marauding armies and left to deteriorate by indifferent Austrian Emperors over the years. Allow your guide to bring this history to life with their vast knowledge of the country’s turbulent past. We recommend booking an afternoon tour if your schedule allows as the castle complex is often less crowded then.
Stroll past the Renaissance Ball Game Hall, where sporty aristocrats played tennis with the Emperor. Admirer the Renaissance sgraffito depicting the allegories of virtues, arts and sciences.
The purest Renaissance architecture outside Italy, Queen Anne's summer house in the Royal Gardens of the Prague Castle was commissioned by Ferdinand I in mid 1500's. It was converted into an astronomical observatory by Rudolf II. Among the guests, there were Tycho de Brahe, Johanes Kepler, and even the emperor himself, who died here after losing the royal title.
St. Vitus cathedral in Prague is one of the most monumental cathedrals in Central Europe and represents a prominent example of Gothic architecture. Founded in the first half of the 14th century it was finally completed 600 years later in the first half of the 19th c. The cathedral is the site of the royal crypt of Czech sovereigns and patron saints. Of particular interest are the baroque tomb of St. John of Nepomuk, the first martyr of the Seal of the Confessional, cast in silver and gothic St. Wenceslas Chapel which houses relics of the saint.
Walk through the magnificent Vladislav Hall, built at the end of the 15th century combining the Late Gothic with brand new Renaissance style. It was the scene of coronation festivities and banquets, and knights' tournaments. The knights would enter the hall to take part in the jousting competitions in full armor and on horseback through the Riders' Staircase, which was designed precisely for that purpose. Step into the Ludwig Wing to see the window through which the members of the Czech Estates defenestrated two Austrian governors and their scribe, sparking the Thirty Years' War, one of the most destructive conflicts in human history.
Step into the austere and monumental Romanesque basilica built in the 1100 hundreds. Compare its architecture and interior to the just visited Gothic style of the St. Vitus Cathedral.
Walk through this quaint, diminutive street Originally built in the 16th century to house Rudolf II's castle guards. Step into the tiny rooms which now mostly house souvenir shops. There is a museum of medieval armoury within the former 14th-century fortification accessible from Golden Lane. Golden Lane is connected with Dalibor Tower, which used to be a dungeon.

Alex was a great host and guide. Very personable in a small group. His knowledge of the castle was great. Would love to tour with him again.
Excellent. We wanted a small personal tour... Not a tour with 20+ people. Robert, our guide, was entertaining and very knowledgeable. We also had a two year old in tow in a stroller and had a great time!
We had an amazing castle tour with Katrin! We learned so much history about the castle and Lesser Town that we never would have known if we had tried to walk around the castle on our own. Katrin is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. You can tell that she is very passionate about history and enjoys her job. Take this tour... you won't regret it!
This tour was of a superior nature. The guide was phenomenal, talented in history presentations and extremely knowledgeable of the regional history. Would recommend him many times over.
This was the very best tour we have ever been on! Vadim was an amazing guide, and kept myself and my 15 year old son engaged and fascinated the whole time. His knowledge was extensive, and the interesting facts he shared about Prague's history brought the city to life. I highly recommend booking this tour. My only regret is that we did the tour at the end of our trip instead of the beginning. We were disappointed we didn't get to explore the city with the perspective that Vadim shared. We'll just have to go back. P.S. We loved the tour so much, we booked one with Insight Cities Vienna right after. 5 stars for that one, too!
The history of the architecture, nobility, emperors and religion. Our guide was very knowledgeable and personable. He shared many interesting antidotes throughout the tour. He also suggested additional places to visit on our next 2 days in Prague.
This is one of the best tours I have ever had. Vadim is simply incredible. What makes his style so noteworthy is how he brings history to life in a way that only the best tour guides/teachers can. When you take this tour he sets the stage for the various historical times periods making sure you understand all the significant ideas of the time as well as the important historical figures. I have not felt so engaged with the history of a place then on this tour. He also knows the best places to stop for some incredible Czech beer and food.
Vadim was an excellent tour guide! He is extremely knowledgeable and it was obvious that he did the research and knew the material and that he wasn't reading from a script. He pointed out all the little details I would have missed. He was able to answer all our questions and was very friendly and kept everyone engaged in the tour. The best part was he knew a great pub or brewery near everything! Great tour highly recommend!
The Prague Castle and its grounds are beautiful, but unless you go with a guide like Vadim, you'll miss so much of the history and nuances of Czech culture. Vadim is smart, witty, and deeply knowledgable guide.
Bonita was an excellent guide. she was very knowledgeable and was easy with any questions we had. it was a pleasure to have her as our guide
Prague Castle is so beautiful and we just didn't want the tour to end! Super guide, attentive, good at weaving in and out of the crowds and a terrific story teller. Very worthwhile.
We really loved this tour! What sets Vadim apart is the entertaining way he weaves together the specifics of the Castle's buildings and events to the whole of European history, including architecture and philosophy.
The time flew by on this 3-hour tour with Vadim. We asked for him particularly since we read the other reviews. All true. He is a wonderful storyteller, very open to questions, and with so much knowledge about the castle sites. Great experience.
Vadim was an absolute delight! We took two half-day tours with Vadim, including the walking tour of New Town and Old Town as well as the Prague Castle tour with a behind-the-scenes private peek into the Strahov Monastery Library!! We were blown away by how enthusiastic, engaging, and knowledgeable Vadim was--he even tailored the information about Prague to suit our American backgrounds, putting Prague's history and culture in context with the history and events occurring in America at the same time. For example, roughly during the time Mozart was composing music, the Declaration of Independence was being written across the pond! And when we walk through downtown Seattle now, we always think of Prague's Dancing House, whose architect is the same one who designed Seattle's colorful EMP! What a way to experience a city for the first time! Not only did we love the time we spent with Vadim, but when we parted ways after both tours, he always gave us the perfect recommendations for what to do next that was close by and his dining recommendations never disappointed. For a spectacular day, please look no further--Vadim is your man!
Vadim brought so much information to this tour with such a friendly, compelling style. There wasn't a question that we had that he couldn't answer. We got to know Prague Castle and its neighborhood in a vivid, fun way. As archeologists, we also came to this tour with a good deal of specialized knowledge of our own and we appreciated how Vadim made room for real discussion. This is definitely a tour for those who want to go beyond the superficial and who want a cozy, small tour group.
Great tour with one of the most knowledgeable guides I have ever used. They also were very helpful in altering the tour to meet our interests and input. They also provided us with additional recommendations based on our interests including shopping, museums, restaurants and other sites. Highly recommend this tour company especially when you want to be educated while seeing the sights.
You do not want to miss out on this tour, or any that Insight Cities, Prague provides. This was the introductory tour that my husband and I took on a honeymoon trip to Prague, CZ. It was well, organized, the tour leader was professional and knowledgeable. She met us exactly where planned and was waiting for us to share her insights into her beautiful City. I can not give better praise or recommendation, than to sign yourself up for this experience!
My wife and I had never been to Prague and what a wonderful choice we made in booking a tour with Vadim at Insight Cities! We were joined by another couple, and Vadim was just superb. He asked what particular things we might be interested in within the context of the Castle tour; inquired a bit as to each person's background; and then led us on a magical 3 hours through the Castle! Vadim was of course extremely knowledgeable, more importantly he was attuned to making the experience for all four of us as rich and enjoyable as possible. His english was perfect, his sense of humor appropriate and enjoyable. We took a shot and booked him; you should too, you will NEVER regret making this choice!
