Wonderful history with an affable host. We learned so much about the Old Town of Prague and the medieval history.

Itinerary
Meet your Nightwatchman outside one of Prague’s 13 original city gates. Learn about the halberd (two metres, multipurpose: boars, intruders, Habsburgers - as needed), the duties of the night watch, and why Prague’s city walls were 10—12 metres high with a killing ground in between. Also: a brief but sincere warning about cutpurses, pickpockets and electric scooters - the unholy trinity of Old Town hazards, then and now.
Prague’s oldest market, trading since the 13th century. Find out why being called a “Pfeffersack” was a compliment and what medieval food actually tasted like (answer: commitment).
Find out why a young composer from Salzburg chose Prague for the premiere of his greatest work. The Estates Theatre has barely changed since 1787. Our nightwatchman’s opinion of Mozart has also barely changed.
We pass by the first middle european university.
One of Europe’s most stunning squares - and in 1633, the city’s main meat market. Learn why Prague was known as the City of the Hanged, then stand at the crosses in the cobblestones - the exact spot where 27 Protestant leaders met a very bad morning on 21 June 1621. Full account of how a public execution worked in 17th century Prague. Informative. Detailed. Not for the faint-hearted.
Meet the man who challenged papal authority, gathered thousands of followers, refused to recant - and was burned at the stake in 1415 for his trouble. Martin Luther later said “we were all Hussites without knowing it.” Our nightwatchman has a survival tip. It involves breathing.
We introduce one of the oldest churches we can find nowadays, the Tyn church from 1368.
Step into the shadow of one of Prague’s most atmospheric landmarks - and meet Alexandr Schamsky, the 28-year-old doctor who stayed when the plague arrived in 1713 and almost everyone else fled. Hear who left first, who left second, and what the official plague survival advice of 1713 actually was. Garlic features prominently.
End at Prague’s most iconic landmark. Hear the full story of Karl IV, receive your plague survival guidance, and witness the ceremonial blowing of the horn - as nightwatchmen once used to warn the entire city of danger. Tonight it will warn Charles Bridge. Group photo with Prague Castle glowing across the river or the statue of Charles IV watching over proceedings. Just as he always has.

Our guide, Thomas, provided a charming, informative and humorous step back to medieval times. We stopped at many historical sites in the Old Town and were regaled with stories that were both fascinating and rich with detail. Thomas is well informed about Prague and was able and willing to share stories both past (plague, war) and present (covid) with our group. We highly recommend this tour.
Thomas is very knowledgeable and I really enjoyed the tour. He made it fun to learn about Medieval Prague. I would recommend this tour.
Our guide was very good. He went with the flow when questions were asked and was point on in answering them. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to learn about medieval Prague
Tom rocks, a natural actor. He really drew us into the history and period as we walked the magical streets during golden hour until sundown.
A nice way to learn about the history of Prague. The tour guide was very friendly and helpful. We would do it again
The information is unique and the experience is fun! My friends loved the funny way he presented the stories.
Tomáš was a great tour guide… humorous and patient. His English was very good and he was willing to answer any questions about the tour, and about Prague in general. Surprisingly the Plague Tour was fascinating. (The Nightwatchman was unavailable so I switched tours). A pretty easy stroll, over the Old Town westside. Good information/reminders beforehand.
David provided a lot of interesting information about Prague, it's history and the area we were walking through. It was very interesting!
It's a very unique and immersive experience. We loved it. Our guide is very funny and sweet. We recommend it!
We chose this tour because of all the positive reviews. We were not disappointed. Thomas, our Night Watchman, staryed in character and gave the most interesting, informative and sometimes humorous narative, visiting many sites, some quite obscure. It lasted about 1.5 hours. We covered quite a bit of ground but it did not seem rushed. Prague is a very busy city and this kind of tour is a great way to see it through a historical lens.
After a hectic day, it was really great to have this evening stroll and hear about the medieval period in Prague. Very fascinating. I enjoyed this very much.
Thomas our guide was brilliant. He was very informative and despite the rain he made the tour a great experience. Definitely would recommend 👌
Very knowledgeable guide. Lots of facts, humour and gory stories. Lots of tips too on enjoying Prague.
The hour and a half flew by. Our guide, Thomas, was funny, engaging and very well informed. We found out a lot about the city. It was a highlight of our long weekend in Prague and, if we had the time, we would go on their other tour. We did an evening tour, which was very atmospheric and he had the full interest of our teenagers as well as us adults.
We did the Night Watchman Tour in Prague with David and it was absolutely amazing. David was a fantastic guide—knowledgeable, engaging, and full of fascinating stories that brought Prague’s history to life. The tour had a great atmosphere from start to finish, and David made it feel both informative and fun. He shared details we would never have learned on our own, and his storytelling made the experience really memorable. If you’re visiting Prague and want something unique, memorable, and well guided, I’d highly recommend this tour. It was one of the highlights of our trip.
The Nightwatchman of Prague was incredible, outstanding and the best tour in Prague! Don’t think twice, just book this tour…It's a must do when in Prague! I actually joined both of their different tours, and I was also lucky to have David, a superb storyteller, fun, friendly and helpful guide hosting me on both experiences. The tours were the most memorable experiences of my Prague trip. Walking through Prague at night, protected by a nightwatchman doing his rounds, while hearing stories of medieval crime, strange punishments, and life in old Prague felt incredibly immersive, especially with the off-beaten track locations. All this helped me feel like I was stepping into another century.. What impressed me most was the storytelling. The guide doesn’t just list historical facts, he truly brings the city’s past to life. As someone who also guides for a living, I can tell you hand on heart you’re in for a treat… I found myself completely absorbed. If you’re visiting Prague, and want a quality experience, do yourself a favour and book it. I highly recommend this experience… and if you can, don’t think twice….Book and join both tours! :)
Thomas was our guide, he did a phenomenal job! My boyfriend and I were the only ones on the tour that night, he still made it fun and engaging for us. We definitely recommend!
The Nightwatchman tour is one of the highly recommended tours in Prague. Our guide, Thomas, is the best. Very knowledgeable and funny and engaging. He’s so into his character as well with all the props and the long hair, shout out to him! Go check this tour if you’re in Prague.
The tour guide was super knowledgeable. No one else was there on the tour, so we essentially got a private tour. I recommend this tour to anyone visiting Prague. The city at nighttime is quite pretty.
From the moment we began the tour, Oscar had us captivated. He maintained the character of a nightwatchman throughout the whole tour. He provided insight for life in Prague during the troubled times of Nightwatchmen, bringing history alive at each location we stopped at. My husband was sick that evening and sadly missed out on what was possibly on of the best history tours I've been on. It was a bit like "Horrible Histories" but so much better.
Oscar was a fantastic guide. He really committed to the character and was a wonderful storyteller. It was really interesting getting to learn about the Prague of the Medieval Period
Really interesting ! David took us back through time so we could relive the night watchman’s experience. He was dressed in similar clothes to the watchman and carried staff and lantern . Explained a lot of Prague history and even though it was dark and showery all added to the atmosphere of the gruesome life lead by the people of the past .
Interesting & entertaining presentation by guide Thomas of the life of a night watchman, his community & the social scene of the early years of Prague!
David was very informative and entertaining. We learned a lot about life in old Prague and explored some quiet off the path areas. It was an enjoyable night.
I thought I had signed up for the Nightwatchman tour, but evidently had signed up for the plague doctor in error. However, we absolutely loved the plague doctor tour! It was unexpectedly funny, super informative and interesting. Thomas clearly has a gift for acting and storytelling. He made this experience exceptional. Both my husband and I really enjoyed and would recommend to others. Fascinating topic and delivery with Thomas.
Lovely experience. David was fantastic as our nightwatchman bringing in the history of the city as well as some personal anecdotes to make the tour very interesting. The tour was a very small group of about 7 and David was very clear and entertaining during the tour. He also gave us some tips to navigate the lovely city of Prague. Definitely recommend.
We enjoyed this tour and the history. Thomas was very knowledgeable and entertaining. My teens said this made them want to do more "touristy things."
Fantastic tour - our Nightwatchman (David) was a great story teller and really set the scene for us about what was happening in old Prague days. It’s a must when you are in Prague!
Thomas provided a great tour. He was humorous and informative. Although this tour covered some of the same locations as the old town, new town and Jewish cemetery tour, it followed a different path so you saw different aspects of the buildings. Thomas stayed in his Nightwatchman character and his talk focused on the everyday life of the lower classes. Very interesting.
A very nice tour. The guide was excellent and there was a lot of interesting and funny information. Even the kids, who were tired of walking all day, enjoyed the experience. Can really recommend this tour to everyone.
This was a fun & informative tour. Our guide Oscar was quirky and a good time. He really played into being a night watchman of the time. The sites we saw were amazing and we really felt like we were part of the city. Definitely would recommend to a friend.
Great experience led by David tonight, who gave some really insightful information about the history of Prague in a small group setting. David spoke excellent English and was able to give lots of detailed history in an engaging and funny way! Thanks again
Very informative and interesting. Thomas looked the part and was full of interesting facts. Loved the Hal beard and the horn blowing!
Great tour ! Very good at explaining history and in a humorous way ! We did a morning tour and then this one in the night and it was great! My three daughters were very entertained , he will show you the city plus hidden gems !
This tour was both educational and entertaining. Our guide, Thomas delivered the content with engaging energy. Plus Prague was beautiful in the evening light. It was a memorable evening.
It was our first night in Prague and Thomas our Nights watchmen was a superb guide. He gave us a nice overview of the history and additional local stories.
A wonderful evening of history and stories, only 4 of us but it was a great night. Thomas was a superb guide
Great way to spend a few hours in Prague! We were met by Thomas , there were only 4 of us, although lots of people kept trying to tag along. Very interesting look into the history, well presented and good fun! Well worth booking.
Thomas made this interesting, lively and quite enriching - great storytelling, curated anecdotes and important historical aspects. Thanks!
Very informative and interesting. We loved that the Watchman was in costume for the tour. Thomas, our guide, was great. Friendly, funny, knowledgeable. Thank you.
The tour provides great insight into not only the night watchman’s job and his position in society but also into life during that period. The tour was well researched. Our guide put a lot of energy into the presentation and made a real effort to engage with his guests.
The Nightwatch Man Tour in Prague was an unforgettable experience! Our guide, dressed as a 14th/15th-century Nightwatch Man, brought history to life with his engaging storytelling and vibrant character. As we strolled through the lantern-lit streets, we learned about daily life, including the surprising amount of beer consumed—often more than water! We also explored significant events like the Hussite movement and Jan Hus's role, all while hearing about Mozart’s debut of "The Marriage of Figaro" in Prague. The tour lasted 90 minutes, but we were so engrossed that we lost track of time and didn't want it to end! With interactive moments and captivating anecdotes, this tour is a must for anyone wanting to delve into Prague’s fascinating history. Highly recommended!
Thank you David Merten for a fun but very informative tour. There's a lot of history in the streets and a lot of information to take in, and even though there were only 2 of us, his enthusiasm and knowledge made a very interesting tour. A very good storyteller and full of humour even on a very very cold evening - a must do tour.
This was a fantastic tour from start to finish. We were a family of three with a 12 year daughter who was fed up with tours. She quickly changed her mind as David our guide kept her involved and brought the history of Prague to life. David our guide was so knowledgeable and and a eloquent story teller. I 100% recommend this tour.
Wow brilliant tour would 101% recommend small group Very interesting and our guide spoke great English and could answer all our questions I would advise anyone coming to Prague to f this tour Great insight into history of Prague
Thomas was awesome as our Nightwatchman. With just 3 of us on our tour, it was very almost a private tour which was great. He got to know our names and a little about our stays and where we've come from. Throughout the evening he always addressed us by name which made it feel so much more personal (probably easier with only 3 instead of 20 of us!) He was very interesting and humorous with his stories and information about his "job" and how the city was during the times we had "travelled" back to. We each got to hold his lantern and Halbeard for photos. He was full of interesting historical tidbits as well as offering some current day recommendations too. He clearly loves his job and it showed in his enthusiasm and knowledge. A very fun and interesting last night in Prague for us, and hopefully if we return again we will do the Plague Doctor tour too.
Great tour! Perfect length of time for a night tour. Great storytelling with history facts and different timeframes. It was perfect for our family
We had a super interesting tour with night watchman David. Learned a lot and laughed a lot. 200 percent recommendable.
Thomas was an amazing. He had lots of historical information to share and he was engaging and funny. Great tour, highly recommend !!
