Itinerary
Your Kutná Hora day trip begins at Praha hlavní nádraží, Prague's grand main train station and one of the city's finest Art Nouveau landmarks. Meet your guide in front of the main ticket office of České dráhy (Czech Railways) between 9:15 and 9:30 AM, ahead of a 10:00 AM departure. With a little time before boarding, your guide walks you to the Wilson Memorial, honoring US President Woodrow Wilson for his role in the founding of Czechoslovakia in 1918 — a fitting first stop before a day steeped in Bohemian history. From here, settle in for the scenic hour-long train ride east across the Bohemian countryside, past rolling hills, small villages, and church spires, as Prague gives way to the quieter towns that once fueled the region's medieval silver-mining wealth. Praha hlavní nádraží is easily reached by metro (Line C, Hlavní nádraží station), tram, or on foot from central Prague, making it a simple, central starting point for your Kutná Hora day trip from Prague.
Your first stop in Kutná Hora is the Sedlec Ossuary, housed within the Cemetery Church of All Saints — one of the most extraordinary sights in the Czech Republic. Before stepping inside, your guide gathers the group in the surrounding graveyard for 5-10min to share the remarkable story of this small Gothic chapel: how holy soil brought back from Jerusalem in the 13th century turned Sedlec into one of Central Europe's most coveted burial grounds, and how a 19th-century woodcarver later arranged the remains of an estimated 40,000 to 70,000 people into the bone chandeliers, garlands, and coat of arms on display today. Out of respect for the site and to help preserve it for future visitors, time inside the ossuary is limited to 30 minutes, and photography is prohibited — so put your camera away for this part of the tour and take in the bone church with your own eyes. It is a small, quiet, and genuinely unforgettable stop on any Kutná Hora day trip from Prague.
After the macabre visit to the Ossuary, take a well-earned 10-minute break at Coffin & Coffee, a quirky little café just steps from the cemetery gates — its playful name a nod to the bone church you've just visited. Grab an espresso, a pastry, or simply catch your breath before continuing your Kutná Hora day trip. People rave about the friendly service and excellent coffee at this 5-star Google local favorite. From here, hop on a local public bus for the short ride into the heart of Kutná Hora's UNESCO-listed Old Town. Traveling by public transport keeps this leg of the journey carbon neutral, a small way to show appreciation for the natural beauty of Kutná Hora and the surrounding Bohemian countryside. It's a brief pause, but a welcome one — equal parts caffeine fix and change of pace between two very different sides of this medieval mining town.
Visit the magnificent Gothic Church of St Barbara and marvel at its echoing interior, replete with frescoes that show medieval miners. As you walk round, hear how the church was dedicated to St Barbara, the patron saint of miners, and was part of Kutná’s efforts to rival Prague.
Continue along the tree-lined terrace between St Barbara's Cathedral and the former Jesuit College, one of the most photogenic corners of Kutná Hora. Pause at the Statue of St Florian (Socha svatého Floriána), patron saint of protection against fire, one of several Baroque statues that line this elevated walkway. Your guide points out the Jesuit College itself, a grand 17th-century building that once trained Jesuit priests and now houses a modern and contemporary art gallery. From this terrace, the views open up over the Vrchlice valley and the rooftops of Kutná Hora below — one of the best photo stops on the entire day trip, and a peaceful moment to take in the medieval town from above before continuing on.
After your morning among Kutná Hora's churches, break for lunch at Dačický, a beloved local restaurant set inside a beautifully restored historic building near the Old Town. Named after the Czech writer Mikuláš Dačický z Heslova, this atmospheric tavern serves hearty, traditional Czech cuisine — think goulash, chicken schnitzel, and svíčková, ladled with rich sauces and served alongside bread or potato dumplings — in a dining room of exposed timber beams, painted ceilings, and centuries-old stone walls. They serve a limited-batch beer brewed right here in Kutná Hora — a genuine taste you simply won't find back in Prague, and only €2.50/0,5l. Lunch is at your own expense and pace, giving you a relaxed hour to refuel before the afternoon's exploring continues at Hrádek. This family business is in it's 2nd generation, the average meal price is €15 (beer is €2.50 for 0,5l), incredible value for money. Feel free to bring your own lunch, you are welcome to sit with the group and enjoy.
Arriving in the heart of Kutná Hora's UNESCO-listed Old Town, wander cobbled lanes and quiet squares that once belonged to one of medieval Europe's wealthiest silver-mining settlements. Your guide points out the Gothic and Baroque facades, hidden courtyards, and grand merchant houses that made this compact town rich enough to rival Prague itself in the Middle Ages. A highlight along the way is the Vlašský dvůr (Italian Court), the town's former royal palace and mint, named for the Italian metalworkers brought in to strike the famous Prague groschen silver coins here in the 14th century. Look for the carved coats of arms and coin reliefs decorating its façade, a reminder of the wealth that once flowed through this unassuming building. Your guide rounds out the story of Kutná Hora's rise as a medieval powerhouse before you make your way back toward the train station for the journey home to Prague.
Board the train back to Prague, retracing your route through the Bohemian countryside as the day winds down. Once you arrive back at Praha hlavní nádraží, your guide sticks around before saying goodbye — happy to answer any lingering questions about Kutná Hora, or offer local advice for the rest of your time in Prague, from where to eat to what to see next. As a thank you for spending the day with us, your guide will also offer a discount on other SANDEMANs tours in Prague, including the Prague Castle Tour and the Old Town and Jewish Prague Tour — a great way to keep exploring the city with a guide you already know and trust.

More than the bone church. Seeing the town, visiting the “non” cathedral and lunch in town made for a full day. Train travel was fun . Our guide Brandon set a good pace and was very knowledgeable.
Highly recommend this tour. Kutna Hora is a charming city with fascinating history. The tour is a lot of walking along cobblestones, up and downhill, and getting on and off buses and trains. Definitely not for anyone with mobility issues. Our guide, Brandon, was fantastic. Very knowledgeable, friendly, and full of stories. And he took us to a great place for lunch!
Oliver our tour guide was very good at his job, he knew the history well, was helpful, funny.respectful and mindful of safety. Enjoyable trip would recommend
We enjoyed the Viator tour very much and Jan was very knowledgeable and clear. The trip was very interesting and the restaurant was excellent. The itinerary and instructions in advance were very helpful.

Great guide and good sized group. Good pace and lots of information shared. Stopped for photos and explanations. Great lunch restaurant.
Had an incredible tour around Kutna Hora including the bone chapel, a little bummed that you can no longer take any photos inside the ossuary but still a very humbling experience to be in the presence of such a place. Our guide, Brandon was phenomenal, engaging with all of the tourists, he was the real life of the party and always making us laugh while being very informative of everything we were seeing.
Had a really memorable day, the trip was very informative and Jan really knows and enjoys his history. Best bit of the day Church of Bones and St Barbara church - although we did like finding out about the Mullet hunting.
Wonderful day trip to Kutna Hora. Our tour guide, Brandon, was great. He was very personable and well organized. He gave information and also gave us time to do some exploring. Brandon was our favorite guide out of all the tours we’ve done here in Prague.
This experience was a wonderful change of pace. Getting outside the city and learning more about this beautiful country and its history was great. Our guide Gaby was amazing! Her energy and passion keot everyone engaged and having a fabulous time. I highly recommend.
We had a wonderful day with Gaby. Her attention to detail was exceptional. She knows so much about the places we visited and the history behind each of them. She most definitely is a scholar. Her energy and enthusiasm is very contagious and we had a beautiful group today. Lunch was exceptional and she kept us on schedule. The tour - amazing. Thank you.
Gaby was an excellent tour guide. Very organized and kept us on schedule. She also kept the group of 22 together, which was challenging on public transportation. She provided a lot of information and has enthusiasm for the topics.
Great experience, Oliver was a great guide he was really knowledgeable and fun ! Definitely worth a day out and the train ride was nice to catch some countryside views
Oliver was a fantastic tour guide! He was very personable and so animated during the tour. All the information he provided was engaging and interesting enough that you couldn’t help but listen. He took great care of all of us on the multiple public transportation rides we had and ensured that the group was all accounted for throughout our trip. His sense of humor was appreciated and the recommendations he provided for after the tour were wonderful! We stopped by 2 of his recommendations and were treated to delicious foods! Thank you Oliver, you’ve made our trip to Prague & Kutná Hora a memorable one!
This was a well organised hassle free trip, our guide Pav was very knowledgable and we learned a lot. Only thing we recommend to improve is to be given a description of where to meet in the morning rather than a gps location which we found confusing.
very fun tour! taking local train and bus to go to the church. Brandon was very good tour guide. everybody should join this tour.
My partner and I couldn’t have been happier with this day excursion. Our tour guide, Oliver was the absolute best we could have had. Knowledgable and a remarkable story teller, we found him extraordinarily engaging and loved his humor as well! The excursion was a blast and easily one of our best days on the trip. The lunch spot provided us with the best goulash we had in the Czech Republic, the Sedlec Ossuary was gorgeous. Highly recommend this experience!
Our guide was great, but I think there are some flaws inherent with how the tour is set up. All of the sites were interesting, and our guide was very knowledgeable about them as well. However, even with keeping a very brisk pace from place to place, we got back at 17:00 instead of 15:30. The tour should be marked as an 8-hour tour instead of a 6-hour tour Additionally, I would have loved more time in different places. We had exactly enough time in Kutna Hora to get lunch, with zero time to look at the shops in town. I would have loved the chance to pop into a couple of shops and support the local economy. Personally, I would have liked more time in the mint as well. We got a history lesson on silver mining and coinage, which was great. But, for example, I've seen from other sources that the mint has a option to go in and strike your own coin from a blank! I think could have been really interesting souvenir to wrap up the tour on. In short, our guide was great, but everything felt very rushed.
The Bone Church was on my bucket list - and it was pretty incredible! Tour guide Oliver was great - funny and informative. The only couple of things that weren’t amazing were not the tour’s fault - slow people put us a bit behind a couple of times and that lead to a hurried lunch and less time at the church and cemetery. Absolutely could have gone on our own, but really wanted to get all the background and history etc from a guide, and for that Oliver was awesome.
Jan was thoughtful and thorough as he walked us through the medieval town and before all that he expertly navigated us through the Prague transit system with expertise! He gave space for questions and discussions while guiding the conversation and provided an excellent amount of free roaming time at each of the stops. His choice of restaurant for the meal was outstanding and his use of WhatsApp groups provided clear and timely communication for all involved. I highly recommend booking with Jan and his group directly and giving yourself over to the experience if you have a morning and an afternoon available to you in Prague. 5 stars!
Wow! What a great way to close this portion of our European vacation with this half day excursion. " TOUR GUIDE" BRANDON......you were amazing and folks i highly recommend you seek him out for your next tour. Very knowledgeable from start to finish on information. Getting us in and out of each site to see and let's not forget the memorable lunch. Make sure you all wear good walking shoes. Nothing with heals or flip-flops. Now moving on to the bones... was it creepy yes! Was it historic yes! Was it fun????? HELL YES!!!! enjoyed it all.
Our guide was Gaby, she immediately made us feel at home. She was informative and her knowledge of Czech history was very extensive. She has a great sense humor and made the experience interesting. My mother had a previous ankle injury and finding the cobble stones challenging, Gaby was concerned and constantly checked in with us, making sure my mum had a seat on the train always. She is a shining star and a true credit to the company. I would highly recommend the day trip.
I’m glad we had a tour guide for all these activities! Doing this on our own would have been a pain. I liked that Lyle would give us the history then let us explore on our own before heading to the next space. The worst part for me was this other group of 9 that had people get lost because they weren’t paying attention or kept making the whole group wait for them while they trailed behind everyone. It was extremely irritating but I thought Lyle handled it well.
The main issue with this tour is the mismanagement of accepted bookings. We rushed everywhere on this tour and our tour guide (Lyle) was putting out fires the entire time which took away from the actual experience the group should have had. This tour should not have more than 15 people in it, plain and simple. This would make the train transfers and bus ride easier for everyone, and eating at the restaurant would have been so much better. If this portion is adjusted, it would be quite a lovely tour. With that said, I am being kind by giving this review three stars because honestly, where it’s at now, it deserves only two…
Our guide was very knowledgeable and gave lots of info. LYle was very entertaining and the town and attractions were stunning. Could have spent more time browsing in the shops
The schedule was pretty brisk, but our guide kept us on time for everything. Kutná Hóra is definitely worth a visit. St. Barbara’s Cathedral is gorgeous, the lunch was delicious, and the ossuary at Sedletz is very impressive. I would recommend this tour to anyone.
Oliver was great- informative and fun. Lots of sites packed into our tour. Bone chapel was a highlight
Lyly is a Knowledgeable guide. Kept the group together and on time.
Excellent day trip with the very charismatic Brandon, our tour guide. Lunch (not included) was delicious in a lovely restaurant. While the wine I had at the cathedral was so lovely, I bought 2 bottles. Only disappointing part was we could take photos inside the Church with bones but still I’d highly recommend the day out.
There are many fascinating stops on this activity and there is a great deal of notable history in Kutna Hora. Our guide Oliver was excellent and did the best he could with the time we had, but my group frequently felt like the itinerary did not allow adequate time to fully enjoy most of the stops.
Excellent trip, Gaby was very knowledgeable and great fun. Trains were on time, clean and efficient.
This activity is very well organized. Prepare to walk( have good walking shoes) . The views are spectacular. The ride on the train are lovely. Lyle is an amazing guide. With a great sense of humour. And a lot of knowledge. The meal at the restaurant was very tasty. Local specialities. No vegan option but they have a salad.
A truly memorable tour. Pavel showed immense passion and knowledge the entire time, making every stop engaging and entertaining. The organization was flawless, the food was excellent, and discovering the Bone Chapel exceeded all expectations because of how stunning and unique it is. A huge thank you for such a wonderful day, Pavel!
We had an awesome guide Karel. Super cool guy, very knowledgeable and engaged us all throughout the tour. Also very easy to follow through the train stations and transfers
We had Brandon as our guide. 10/10 awesome energy. You get to see a lot, not just the Bone Church, but other churchs and you get to try Czech food!
The day trip was wonderful. Kutna Hora is a lovely small city with a fascinating history and our guide, Jan, was superb. Very organized and efficient with a great delivery style as he shared a wealth of information with us. It would have been better to have a clearer explanation of the meeting site as the address we were given was just for the train station and its large and busy. Fortunately, we found Jan in time!
A great day trip! Brandon was very knowledgeable and personable and gave some great recommendations! Kutna Hora is definitely worth the trip if you're going to be in Prague!
Was a great day out. Shame you couldn't take photos in the bone church but still a good day none the less. Guide was great and very informative.
This tour was so much fun! Our tour guide Pavel was exceptional. He was extremely knowledgeable and a lot of fun. The meal was also delicious. I would highly recommend. Especially with Pavel!
Oliver was a great tour guide that was knowledgeable about Czech history and his enthusiasm was infectious. My partner and I enjoyed our Kutna Hora tour and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a day trip, and would recommend Oliver as a tour guide (he also does other Prague tours).
Brandon is a great guide. The places are easily accessible if you were to go without a guide, however, being there with a guide gives you more information and background about the place, ease of transport and most importantly, he helps you to fend off the people hogging your reserved seat on the train which is a lifesaver. The lunch place is absolutely great, and we got our food immediately with priority. Highly recommended :)
Great experience, made even better by Brandon Brandon, our guide, was extremely helpful, friendly and welcoming throughout the trip. He really helped make the day enjoyable, relaxed and good fun. He is an excellent communicator, very knowledgeable, and explained everything clearly while keeping everyone engaged. His friendly manner and sense of humour made a real difference to the experience. A great day overall, and Brandon deserves a lot of credit for making it so enjoyable. Highly recommended.
Great half day trip—our guide Brandon kept things moving quickly and efficiently so we could see a lot.
Brandon was great! Kept really good track of time, even with a larger group. That would be the only minus to this experience- the large group size. Otherwise the ease of having all the tickets taken care of was great for the day trip. Lunch was delicious and the restaurant had great atmosphere as well. All the stops were beautiful and Brandon was very informative.
Pavel was great. So knowledgeable and entertaining. Found a great spot for us to eat, ordered in advance so no waiting. And not expensive. Highly recommend!
Amazing trip, great guide Lyle. Had an amazing experience. Worth the visit. 😊🤗🤗
This was a lovely day trip to get away from the chaos of the city and breathe some fresh country air. Pavel was truly an amazing guide: he was authentic, knowledgeable, hilarious, and calm despite several train delays. This is one of my favorite memories in my entire Central Europe trip. Never skip lunch :).
This was a great day trip from Prague. Brandon was our guide and he was awesome and provided a seamless experience from the trains to the sights and restaurant.
This was a great day trip from Prague that didn’t wear us out with travel. Our guide Brandon was very personable and gave a great overview of the attractions.
