Itinerary
Walk behind the ropes through the baroque halls of one of the most impressive libraries in the world. Your private group accompanied by a historian guide will have access to the otherwise inaccessible parts of this unique library. Witness the collection and the environment of the age of enlightenment interpreted by monastic frescoes with commentary by your guide.
See the Baroque Strahov Monastery of The Royal Canonry of Premonstratensians, one of the oldest of this order in the world, founded in 1143. First documentation of beer brewing comes from the beginning of the 14th century. Just beyond Strahov, located on the hill over the Prague Castle, are breathtaking views of the city. The Baroque Strahov Library contains book collections numbering approximately 200,000 volumes, we will walk behind the ropes to have an intimate encounter with the library decorations (entrance at own expense 400 CZK appr. $18 ).
Taste St. Norbert craft beers of the Strahov Monastic brewery. The brewery is so small that it only serves its own customers.
Arguably, some of the best craft beer in the Czech Republic. We will walk through the campus of the Brevnov monastery, established in the 900s, the first in the Czech lands. And then taste the craft beers brewed in the former stables.

Our tour guide Matous was wonderful. He was extremely knowledgeable and personable. His insights into the history, philosophy and culture of the Czech peoples and the Strahov Library was exemplary. We learned so much . Thank you Matous!
Highly recommend this tour and Insight Cities. Vadim was a fantastic guide - interesting, personable and knowledgeable. The libraries were stunning and as a private tour, it was lovely to get that space and peace. Beer was great too! Enjoyed this one so much, booked other Insight Cities tours in Vienna and Budapest. Bonita was the so incredibly helpful in organising these.
A fascinating experience! We are so glad that we stepped away from the main tourist attractions, and experienced the rich history of Prague with our guide Matous! Mat was incredibly informative, and we enjoyed his commentary on the monasteries and breweries. The perfect tour for beer, art, and history lovers. We truly felt like this tour enriched our time in Prague!
Vadim was an excellent guide, we learned so much and had a great time! The special access to the monastery library coupled with Vadim's vast knowledge was incredible. I highly recommend the Monastery and Brewery tour for anyone looking for a unique experience.
One of my favorite tours of Prague. It’s a great way to spend three hours seeing amazing sites and having fun with a local. Matous was great and we were able to sample the local cuisine. The library I cannot say enough about it and is a must for anyone visiting Prague. Loved the low key vibe and beer
We had a wonderful tour with Vladim. I would highly recommend the Monastery and Brewery tour. We learned so much and having a private tour guide at the Monastery is the way to go. We also enjoyed the brewery’s we went to!
This was an awesome tour with an amazing tour guide! He was knowledgeable and personable and helped us though the beauty of both baroque art and Czech beer
Vladim took my colleagues and I on an enlightening tour through history and local Czech beer for an afternoon. It was a great way to learn about the culture and beer all in an afternoon. I would highly recommend this tour.
Vadim is a perfect tour guide. Not only he has deep knowledge of the history of Strahov Monastery, but he also has incredible knowledge of the Czech Republic, which is very helpful for us as tourists who want to know more about the country we visit. He is also very attentive in reminding us to bring sufficient cash to purchase the Strahov Monastery tickets. We also ended up tasting a lot of great beer. My favourite was the beer ice cream from the restaurant near the Strahov Monastery.
We got a special tour that also highlighted the influence of former swedes, since we are from Sweden. In perfect english of course. The library with all very old books and the fantastic roof paintings is inspiring also for todays life. Finally we ended up in a very nice pub for a local afternoon beer. Can be very much recommended.
We had a blast! Vadim was friendly, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable. It felt less like a tour, and more like a good friend was sharing with you their favorite, secret places. Absolutely would recommend.
Vadim was wonderful! Personable, knowledgeable and accommodating. He was a virtual encyclopedia of Prague and Czech history. I would highly recommend this tour!
This was an amazing tour and I highly recommend it. Vadim is such a great guide with incredible deep knowledge which he loves to share with others. We learned so much during the tour and also had a lot of fun at the same time. He took us to a private tour inside the library of Strahov Monastry which is absolutely breathtaking and worth the extra fee. Other people had to stand outside, we got to be inside of it and we will probably never forget this experience! The beers we had were delicious and the Chats with Vadim were inspiring.
Highly recommend this tour. We had a group of six and loved every minute of our tour, great mix of history and breweries. Vadim (Vad) was our guide, he was a walking encyclopedia of knowledge/history. What’s more, his enthusiasm for the history of Prague is infectious, making it fun and very enjoyable for our group. Vad has special access to the library, which is the highlight of the tour. While the other tourist are stuck behind a rope, we waltz in the library like we own the place with a detailed 45min presentation of pure historical beauty.
It was great to have proper access to the Strahov library on this private tour. Vadim has a wealth of knowledge and helped make the frescos come to life! I'm glad we sampled some of the excellent beer at the brewery, so many varieties to choose from... Thanks again
This is a fantastic tour. In the monastery we were able to have a private access to its stunning library rooms. We had plenty of time for viewing the space and could take plenty of photographs. Vadim is entertaining and knowledgeable speaker and described the space with a wonderful detail. We were amazed at the beauty of the space and all the information Vadim shared with us. Visit to the monastery's brewery was so lovely and fun. Bonita shared many interesting facts whilst we were sampling beer, it was perfect ending to this remarkable tour.
Vadim (the owner of Insight Cities Tours) was the best tour guide we've had. He grew up in Los Angeles so his english and understanding of Americans was excellent. We had a small group and all became friends by the end. The Strahov Library is absolutely amazing. 20,000 manuscripts dating back to the 900's. We were in awe to be among so many rare and valuable books. Vadim's knowledge and affection for these wonderful pieces of history was infectious. We all ending up having a unique appreciation for the monastery and it's collection. Then over beers we all became good friends, sharing stories of family and our past. We highly recommend this tour.
Highly recommend the private tour for groups - Insight Cities was very communicative and made the entire process very easy. This was a great way to see Prague and learn about the city's history!
It was great to get a tour inside the library. Vadim Our guide told us a lot of the fresco’s inside. Vadim is a great guide, very friendly and he told us a lot. When you want to go on a tour thuis one you Should really do. The combination of barok and beer is very nice
The tour guide’s depth of knowledge on everything from architecture to history to culture to religion to beer varieties all gave useful context to all the sites, and truly made for an unforgettable day. I cannot wait to come back and do another tour with this firm!
Amazing tour of the two monasteries and brewery with beer tasting. Vadim is a wonderful storyteller, historian, and a guide. He kept the information interesting, relevant and enjoyable for all 3 generations in our family. He is very nice, flexible, and easy to communicate and work with. Also have us great recommendations for exploring the city on our own, some sites to visit, restaurants and cafes for dining, etc. - Thank you, Vadim! We truly enjoyed this tour and highly recommend it!
Vadim, the guide, was awesome. He was very knowledgeable and was able to share his knowledge in an interesting way. He had all of us interested in the tour the entire time and was engaging.
Our tour with Vadim felt more like a pleasant walk through the city with a really smart and fun friend. First of all- the itinerary of the tour was great, it allowed us a private viewing of a library at Strahov monastery which alone was worth the cost of the tour, and everything else was a bonus. The tour included a pit stop at a brewery, which was a nice break and ability to have another interesting and informative conversation. We were offered a couple of alternatives for the rest of the tour and we picked the one that worked for us, and we are so happy we did, it was great. Vadim is a great guide, very knowledgeable about art, history, full of fun anecdotes about Prague and it’s amazing history. The tour ended up being longer and we loved every minute of it. This tour is a MUST for anyone visiting Prague regardless of how long or short your stay is. This is the second tour we took with Insight Cities Prague and both tours were of the hightest quality.
An excellent tour! Vadim, our tour guide, was very personable, knowledgeable and very helpful. We learned a lot about baroque architecture, had a private tour of the library in Strahov monastery which was breathtaking, had some of the best Prague beers and toured Prague castle. We highly recommend Vadim and Insight Cities!
Seeing the Strahov library (in a way that nobody else is allowed) and then later, meeting with a monk at the Brevnov monastery were just two of the many things that make this tour stand out. Living in Prague for some time, I'm looking for tours (and people like Vadim) who can show me something new with insights that go beyond the guidebooks. And, yes, the beer was nice too, especially at Brevnov.
This was such an amazing (informative, inspiring, fun) experience. My husband and I had been on the public, self-guided tour at the Strahov Monastery Library in the past. But this! This was really something else. The opportunity to step *inside* the library is a very special one, and our tour guide Vadim was both knowledgeable and very friendly. We got an in-depth exploration of the frescoes in the library and enjoyed a fantastic beer in the monastery brewery. The next stop was the Brevnov Monastery, and it was a treat to get outside the city center and the usual tourist stops. It was like stepping back in time! Our additional guide — Father Josef — was a delight. So charming and sweet and welcoming. The crypt under the church in the monastery is fascinating. And then, again, we relaxed in the monastery brewery with another delicious local beer. Vadim is an excellent guide, and throughout the afternoon, conversation flowed freely. We learned so much, and it really did feel like VIP access to these incredible sites. 100% recommend Insight Cities and this tour.
I have passed by the Strahov Monastery many times, but this was the first time I went inside. Thanks to this private tour we had a chance to access the monastery library which is not usually open to visitors. That sense of exclusivity was one of the highlights of this tour. After admiring the vast book collection, we had the chance to try some beer produced in the monastery. The tour continued at the Brevnov Monastery where a local monk showed us around the church and took us to the Roman crypt below it! We saw stunning frescoes in both monasteries and Vadim told us all about the allegories depicted in them which we wouldn't have known otherwise. To wrap up, we had another beer tasting session with 9 beers from the monastery brewery, paired with some traditional Czech treats. If you want to access some of Prague's Baroque hidden gems while tasting the local cuisine, this is the tour for you!
Vadim is an excellent tour guide. The insight he is able to share about every nook and cranny of Prague was just amazing. We needed lots of special planning to organize this team building tour for the organizational heads of our dept. We had people from all over the world (Japan, India, U.S. , Germany, U.K.), and as the local representative I was responsible for planning the event. Vadim's tour was so excellent that our dept. VP invited him to dinner so we could continue the discussions about how architecture in Prague represents the direction the political and cultural winds were blowing here throughout history. I can't recommend Insight Cities Prague enough!
Very interesting, very informative and a lot of fun! Vadim our guide made it a trip to remember! Definitely an experience to recommend!
Our tour guide Matous was an absolute delight he was knowledgeable and hilarious. He was hands down one of the best tour guides I have ever had the privilege of taking a tour with.
I was very happy to order a beer and monastery tour led by Vadim, who was funny and friendly, like an old friend taking us on a tour, and whose frescoes became very interesting and alive in Vadim's lectures. Almost a month after we left Prague, we often reminisce about the knowledge Vadim shared with us and the happy chatter. It's worth recommending to everyone, especially those interested in European history, that Vadim is a treasure to not miss.
I loved seeing the Strahov Monastery library. She has a considerable collection of books, as well as is beautiful. The decor is made of wood and has paintings on the ceiling. In the area, there is a restaurant with a beautiful view, which deserves to be considered. The only thing I didn't like was having to pay to take pictures at the library. Plus, I highly recommend a visit! The monastery is close to the castle. So, it would be good to do both attractions on the same day...
