Very engaging, polite, and professional. 10/10 Helped us picked out the best wines and shipped back to the US. Loved having a local with so much passion over his home country. Will be back!

Wonderful tour! Renato was fantastic and so knowledgeable about the city and country. Plus we had delicious food and wine along the way. Highly recommend!
We had a three hour private tour with Renato. The three hours really went very fast as there was so much to hear and see in Porto. Renato was very pleasant and knowledgeable from telling us on the history of the city and Porto and information on the city’s current development.
We took the tour with Renato, and we enjoyed every minute of it. By having only us two on the tour, he was able to customize the experience in the fly, so that we were engaged the whole time, had all our questions answered, and overall had a great time!
We learned so much about Porto's history, culture and local politics from our excellent tour guide Renato! He is not only very knowledgeable about Porto, but also Portugal's history. We had great conversation on broad topics, and we truly had a very educational and enjoyable tour. Renato is very kind! After our tour, we asked him how to get to a place where we want to go, instead of pointing us the direction, he walked us to there. If you want to have an educational and fun tour, you will be very happy with Renato!
My friend and I toured with Renato and we had the BEST time. Renato is a guide with the perfect combination of knowledge and personality! We enjoyed all the places he took us (and the food we sampled) and all the history of the sites we saw. I would book with this tour again!!
If you enjoy historical context with entertaining stories, Renato is your guide. We saw highlights of Porto, and learned about Portugal’s history through his passion, flair and humor. All 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed this tour and most highly recommend.
Renato was really friendly and knowledgeable. We learned so much about Porto and Portugal. Each place we went, he had relevant, interesting information to share and kept us engaged. He checked with us about what our interests were and made sure we wanted to visit one of the places he had planned, because there were a lot of stairs. The view was worth it! The three hours went by fast and afterward, he sent us a great list of recommendations for places to go.
I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. As a certified historian, Renato is not only extremely knowledgeable about the history of Porto and Portugal (and a lot of other things), but he is a tremendous communicator and very personable. When he got to the gastronomical portion of the tour, his enthusiasm for the food of Portugal was contagious. As a bonus, following the tour, he sent us a comprehensive list of other things to do and places to eat in Porto. A private tour with Renato is absolutely worth every penny.
Very good overview of Porto, its history, politics, shopping, food and entertainment districts. Loved it.
Renato was wonderful & we saw so much in a short time thanks to his knowledge. He was very accommodating, tailoring our tour for level of walking & hill climbing we desired (coming off a long travel day) as well as how much history we wanted. His knowledge of the city & of Port (styles, age & vintners) was much appreciated. I’d highly recommend this service for anyone looking to maximize their time in Porto
Renato was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. We really learned a lot about Porto and Portugal in general . We really enjoyed the experience.
Excellent guide with such rich knowledge of the history of Portugal. We learned an incredible amount while seeing gorgeous Porto. I 100% recommend this walking tour!
Soooo much history, and architecture, and information, and the absolute best views! Renato tailored the tour to our intrests and kept answering every question, even the silly ones.
Our guide, Renato Miguel Tavares, was excellent. My wife and I had a terrific tour of Porto, filled with sights, intermixed with several food tasting experiences. Renato’s background and knowledge in history was very impressive and the stories he shared were very interesting. It was the perfect day of learning history, eating phenomenal food and wine, and visiting very historic sights. Highly recommend!
We met Renato this morning for a walking tour of Porto. He was on time, professional and greeted my wife and I with a smile and even a bottle of water! After introductions he asked us what we would like to see and also gave us an overview of what he planned for us. He was extremely knowledgeable about Portugal history and shared much of it with us. All the while being accommodating and ensuring we were comfortable and happy with the details he was sharing. We walked all over the city and we talked wine, Porto, and its place in history. At the end he asked us if we were happy with the tour and sent us an email with additional suggestions for food, entertainment, shopping and additional places to stop in Porto. You should definitely ask for Renato if you are considering a walking tour of Porto. He’s a great guy!
My husband and I enjoyed this tour so much! Renato was such a great guide—we learned a ton about Porto and got a great introduction to the city and its history and architecture. Highly recommend!
Renato was a perfect guide, with excellent English, a detailed knowledge of history, and a great interest in showing us wonderful eating opportunities and talking about wines and ports. We walked all through central Porto, saw many classic buildings, and collected insider tips and details the big tours don’t tell you. He also asked us what we liked and adjusted the tour to fit our interests, giving us options as we went along, totally customizing the experience. We wish we could have done more tours with Renato through other parts of the city as well, and we will do that when we return!
Today we had a tour with Renanto and he not only met our expectations, but exceeded them by far. We arrived 10 minutes early for our tour and he was already there. He first of all gauged our knowledge of Portugese history (which was not very much) and then proceeded to take us through the history of Portugal, giving us lots of funny stories, taking us to so many amazing places, helping us avoid tourist traps and giving amazing recommendations of places to go and eat and drink like a local. After our tour we went to somewhere he directed us to and we feel we won't get better Portugese food than this. We are delighted to have met Renato and especially to have done a tour with him on the first day as he helped us avoid so many tourist traps we might otherwise have fallen in to. I cannot recommend this tour highly enough, just book and make sure you do it for your first full day in Porto.
Renato is the epitome of a professional, knowledgeable, enthusiastic city tour guide. Accommodating, pleasant, and attentive to his listeners, he gives just the night amount of information. We had a very enjoyable , and entertaining tour. Thanks Renato.
Renato was an fabulous tour guide. He not only showed us so much of Porto but also included great history about the history of Portugal, which was great! We had a excellent time and would recommend his tour services to all of our friends traveling to Porto. Doing the walking tour was such a great way to get to know the city when we first arrived. He also went out of his way to give us some great recommendations for the rest of our time in the city. Overall fantastic. Would recommend 10/10!
Renato was a really great guide. Our family of 3 had a lot of fun. Renato is proud of his Portuguese heritage and was full of historical & cultural knowledge. He even sent us a list of Porto recommendations. The bottled waters on a very hot day were appreciated. Book with Renato, you won’t be disappointed.
We spent the day with Renato (and Alex) touring our North American customers through Porto. Not only was he extremely knowledgeable, but he was able to deliver a custom experience for every person in our large group making stops according to requests, filling us with the just right amount of history, and doing it all with pleasant disposition. I wish I could have Renato on every tour! AND he takes great group photos!
Historian, philosopher and an amazing tour guide. In about 3 hours, Renato gave us an amazing overview of Porto history, neighborhoods, monuments, and buildings. We even had a few minutes to stop for a quick taste of the best Pasteis de Nata in town. We did a tour with just two of us and Renato customized the walk for us and answered all of our questions as we made our way through the historic center of town. If you are in Porto, I highly recommend spending a few hours with Renato on this tour!!
First day in Porto and Renato gave us the best introduction. He was exceptionally knowledgeable, friendly and aware of our needs. Fantastic contacts on food and wine tasting, ability to skip queues and just a friendly guy to share a beer and conversation with. Highly recommend
Renato was very good. knowledgeable and fun to spend the day with. We did both the walking and food tour. I would totally recommend him. Thank you for making our trip so memorable Renato.
My wife and I had the most fabulous tour with Renato! I did a lot of research and talked with several different tour operators and this is the one we went with. It may not have as many reviews, but don't let that deter you. Renato has more degrees than my wife and I have together. He is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the history of Portugal and especially the Porto region. We walked all over the city and learned so much about the area, the culture and the history. We have done a lot of tours in Europe and Asia and I have never had a tour where I have learned so much! At the end of the tour he sent us a list of recommendations for restaurants, bars, museums and other things to do. We basically used that list as our guide for the rest of our time in Porto. If you want to learn more about Porto, its amazing history and what to do there, don't even hesitate and just sign up for this tour. you will not regret it!
Small group tour, ended up being just my husband and myself. The tour covered all of the Porto highlights that we expected. Our tour guide Andreia Martins was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all of our questions. She knew a lot about the Portuguese history.
Renato was a superb guide with deep and fascinating historical knowledge. We had a very informative, fun, and useful overview/tour of Porto, a perfect start (or finish!) to a visit to a culturally and historically rich place. We highly recommend this tour -- which we participated in on a sometimes hard-raining day. Despite that, the tour was a joy from start to finish, including the restaurant Renato sent us to for lunch.
This was the perfect tour to start our trip to Porto. Renato was the perfect combination of informative and entertaining. We learned so much about the history of Portugal and Porto while on the move through neighborhoods we never would have discovered on our own. Perfecto.
The guide Renato was excellent. Very informative and interesting. He is a historian and really knew his stuff. He took us to several places where we had not been to yet. His sense of humour is great and Was very amicable and pleasant to talk to
We had such a great time with Renato on our walking tour! Our party had 2 kids (9 and 10) and they had as much fun as the adults. We're still talking about it! Thank you so much for a wonderful day in Porto!
Renato has an unbelievable grasp of history through the centuries and brings all to life in a sequential way. If you like history - he is the guide for you. Porto is great for walking as a lot of up and downhills so you get your exercise in! If in Porto- take 3 hours to bring yourself up to date on all the influences, conquests, battles, economic development Portugal went through. If in the summer wear a hat and walking shoes! I am glad that I did it!!!!
Renato gave us a fabulous experience that our varied group really enjoyed! He was very knowledgable and entertaining! Would recommend this tour!
Porto is all about food, wine and history. Renato educated us about all three. He is super knowledgeable about all things Portugal. A true historian and gourmet. Excellent English and easy to follow. Probably the highlight of our 3 days in Porto. Highly recommend.
What made this such an enjoyable and informative walking tour in Porto was Renato’s explaining to us the historical context of the Iberian Peninsula, Portugal and then Porto. As we went to our several stops, we could understand the “how and why” of the buildings and honored people along the way. This was most apparent when we went to explore the spectacular train station which he referred to as the “Sistine Chapel” of Porto. It was colorful yet complex and his historical perspective really helped us appreciate this artistic and functional wonder! Renato in 3 words: Knowledgeable. Personable. Smart.
Uma aula da história de Portugal e do Porto, num roteiro muito nem pensado e com locais de muita importância para quem quer conhecer o melhor da cidade. Renato foi atento, solicito e entregou mais do que havíamos combinado, um guia de verdade.
I loved seeing Porto again, now walking through its staircases, historic places and many other places I didn't know. Guide Renato very attentive and knowledgeable about this wonderful city! Beautiful places and sensational photos!
