After checking a few tour companies, I chose Endless Wknd Tours as they indicated they could be flexible to our needs. From the start (we were to start at 9am but I rang and asked to start earlier and off we went at 8:30), Carlos, our guide, was friendly, very informative and keen to give us the best tour possible. He was filled with information, anecdotes and made certain we saw as much as possible within our time frame without feeling rushed. As I indicated my interest was photography, he was keen to make certain I had one opportunity after another in enjoying and absorbing what we were seeing. He really made the day special. I would strongly recommend this company and particularly Carlos who could not do enough .... and we had some good laughs along the way. And, the places we went were absolutely top notch.

Itinerary
Start the day with private pickup from your hotel or agreed meeting point in Porto. Travel comfortably in a premium private vehicle toward the Aveiro lagoon region. Enjoy a smooth departure from Porto into the Aveiro lagoon region. During the drive, your licensed driver-guide introduces the Ria de Aveiro, its coastal geography and the relationship between fishing, salt, boats and lagoon life.
Stop at Cais da Torreira, where traditional boats and calm lagoon scenery introduce the region’s maritime identity. This short stop offers atmosphere, photography and context before crossing the lagoon.
São Jacinto Coastal Route Continue through the São Jacinto side of the lagoon and Atlantic coast. The drive reveals the contrast between calm lagoon waters, dunes, coastal vegetation and the wider Atlantic environment.
Ferry Crossing to São Jacinto Cross the Ria de Aveiro by ferry toward São Jacinto. This short local crossing connects both sides of the lagoon naturally, avoids long detours and gives guests a scenic sense of the water landscape.
Barra Beach and Barra Lighthouse Enjoy a guided walking visit in Barra, including the beach area, coastal village atmosphere and the iconic Barra Lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse in Portugal. The stop gives the tour a strong Atlantic identity.
Barra Fish Market and Coastal Life When timing and local conditions allow, include context around the Barra Fish Market and the area’s fishing culture. This adds a genuine everyday layer to the coastal visit and connects the landscape to local food traditions.
Costa Nova — Striped Houses and Atlantic Charm Explore Costa Nova, famous for its colourful striped palheiros. Originally connected to fishing life, these houses have become one of the most beloved images of the Aveiro coast. The stop combines architecture, beach atmosphere and excellent photo opportunities.
Optional Noeirinha Salt Pans If selected, visit Noeirinha Salt Pans for a direct introduction to Aveiro’s salt culture. Learn about traditional salt production, the work of the marnotos and the importance of salt as the region’s historic “white gold.”
Lunch and Free Time in Aveiro Lunch is intentionally flexible and not included in the base price. Guests may choose a relaxed restaurant meal, a lighter pause or another suitable option depending on preference and timing.
Aveiro Historic Centre Walking Tour Enjoy a guided walking tour through Aveiro Historic Centre, including canal streets, urban atmosphere and context on the city’s development. The route includes interpretation of the Church of Misericórdia, Aveiro Cathedral and Santa Joana’s importance to the city.
Optional Ovos Moles Introduction / Tasting If timing allows, enjoy a short introduction to Ovos Moles, Aveiro’s famous conventual sweet. Any tasting is optional and paid separately according to guest preference.
Optional Moliceiro Boat Ride — Ria de Aveiro If selected, enjoy a calm 45-minute moliceiro boat ride through Aveiro’s canals. This traditional cruise offers a relaxed panoramic reading of the city’s waterways, bridges, façades and lagoon identity.
Aveiro Railway Station — Azulejo Panels Finish the Aveiro visit with a stop at Aveiro Railway Station, where azulejo panels illustrate regional life, maritime activity, railway history and local traditions. This concise final stop adds a beautiful visual and cultural close before departure.

Aveiro and Costa Nova should not be missed. The tour was a wonderful and informative experience, but Alex added a positive “entertaining” dimension that was beyond compare. Put him on your list if you want to visit the area.
What a great day with Carlos! While Aveiro was such a quaint sweet town and Costa Nova had a beautiful beach our favorite stop was the Salt farm. The salt farm was so cool. This is how salt was harvested back in Roman times. So exciting to see the ingenuity from 100s of years ago in action. We appreciate the people who took initiative to reopen this farm. We hope they are able to keep it open. It is worth a stop if you are in the area.
Delphine, our guide, has a wonderful personality who offered kind and thoughtful gestures throughout the day. The city, architecture, guided canal tour were all lovely to see…a superb day.
My friends and I had a great time. Our tour guide was very nice, patient, knowledgeable and had a good time getting to know each other. Also gave us ideas for other tours and sites to see.
The tour guide, Carlos, was very nice, patient, professional and knowledgeable. It was a pleasure getting to know each other and receiving advice on other sites and tours to reserve in the future.
Our driver Carlos was friendly and very knowledgeable. He took pictures of our group as we went by in the boat and allowed us to personalize our tour to or interests. I would highly recommend this tour.
This tour was excellent! Our tour guide Carlos was very friendly and super knowledgeable!! He gave us some excellent suggestions to personalized our tour. It was a great day and he was an awesome guide! I would highly recommend this tour!😍
We were picked up at our Porto hotel and everything was excellent. Carlos took us to all the interesting places and we could stop for any reasonable time. Aveiro is beautiful and full of colour. The area by the old fish market is particularly colourful. Note, many tourist shops close for lunch and the park area by the quay is being renovated. They would not stop me recommending this trip with Carlos. All in all an excellent escape from the big city to a quieter but equally interesting destination. Of our 3 days in Porto, this was our favourite!
The tour with Carlos was exceptional. We went to Aveiro and toured around. Had a tasty Portuguese treat at a bakery and took photos of the boats in the canals. We then went to costa Nova to see the striped houses had a lovely lunch and saw the powerful waves in the ocean. Then went on a ferry to a natural parkland. He also stopped for us to take photos of the colourful boats. Toured Gaia as well. Carlos is a wonderful tour guide and answered many questions about Porto and Gaia. I would highly recommend his tours to everyone. Thanks Carlos for an amazing day.
This was an absolutely great tour choice. I loved the diversity of sites offered. Sites and activities included the train station, the salt fields, the opportunity to enjoy a gondola ride at an additional cost, the Costa Nova houses, and many more. The fish market, also on the itinerary, was closed, so we could not visit. Carlos was extremely informative on many subjects, timely, and had very good English. The only reason I gave the tour a four rather than a five was because I was expecting to return to the hotel at 6:00 and when we were back at the hotel at 4:30, I wondered why. I checked the itinerary and discovered that the last visit listed on the agenda was a 45 minute stop at an animal sanctuary. No mention was made as to why this was not included. I was disappointed by this omission.
This was day two of private touring with Carlos. After the full day in Fatima, we talked about other places I hoped to see and together, a very personalized tour developed. It would be a long day and yet Carlos had no complaint but to make my stay special and personalized to answer my hopes. Again, I recommend him to solo travelers for easy, safe, comfortable touring with attention to specialized touring. Absolutely Incredible day!! Too many pictures to choose from.
Carlos did very best to introduce the beauty of Portugal and we can enjoy the places so much. We do feel Carlos trueheartedly treat us very well and give very special care to my kid. Would definitely join his tour again next time when I go Portugal again. He is really professional!
Carlos is an excellent and interesting storyteller. Gave us a lot of good advice. It was a nice ride. Frankly, in Aveira you may not go boating, we have not seen or learned anything interesting or useful, but it is not a question for Carlos or his agency, it is a question for the guys who organize boating. Other than that, it's fine.
Very interesting tour especially thanks to our guide Carlos: very kind, friendly, extremely prepared in telling us about the peculiarities of this area and in answering all our curiosities. It was a pleasure to discover this area, thank you very much Carlos, see you on the next tour!
Costa Nova was the most beautiful visit and Carlos's professionalism and kindness was immense. Completely recommended, thank you!
