Started late. Guide’s wine knowledge was average.
Good tour of three wine houses in Gaia. Three different ports in each to try. We enjoyed it and of course the whole is friends by the end!
This was a great overview of Porto’s port wine industry. We started at Fonseco and had a guided tour of the museum which explained how port is made, the region where the grapes are grown and the different types of port. Then was tasting. We also went to 2 other tasting rooms and had 9 different ports. I highly recommend the tour. Our guide, Rafaela, was especially good.
I thought that the guide was knowledgeable, but she was very strict and not terribly friendly at the group.
Great experience with a great host
Very enjoyable time with very good information passed on. Rafaela was an excellent guide, giving us loads of information on how port is made. I would definitely recommend.
An enjoyable port wine introduction! Visited 3 cellars, learned about the different Port types. Rafaela gave great explanations of everything. And we had a ball yapping with other travelers. We hung back and two of the guests bought 5 bottles for the group to enjoy. Travel and meet new people!!
Lovely small group tour with a lovely group and funny informative and friendly guide. Nice visit to three local cellars and tasting high quality ports and port wines. Highly recommended Amazing experience
So nice! Excellent value. Knowledgeable staff. We had so much fun tasting all the ports and meeting new friends. Our your guide Rafaela was so much fun and knowledgeable. She loved talking to us and answering our questions. (However annoying they were lol) Sergio at the Fonesca winery was amazing and obviously so studious. Definitely recommend if you want to spend the afternoon having a few drinks and enjoying your port.
Tour last for roughly 3 hrs and visits 3 cellars in the Vila Nova de Gaia area of Porto Plenty of generous servings for the Port tastings. Small group makes it a better experience. Tour guide was pretty good, i can't remember her name.
Verry nice and competent guide. 22 persons is not a small group! Apart from us and an other couple, it was a big group: they came about 15 minutes to late (14:45), they didn’t apologise, were very loud.
Like all of Porto this tour is both up hill and down. The Port houses are not the big ones and therefore really interesting to see how the small producers work. Very good but do have a good lunch before.
Great walking tour with a well informed English speaking guide. The tastings were great too… Best advice is to eat well before you set off!
It’s a good tour if you haven’t had the chance to tour Douro valley.
Vitor and Rafa were fantastic. Very knowledgeable and good humour
Vitor and Rafa were amazing - lovely tour of the port distillery. Lovely day!
Thanks Vitor for the amazing tour!
Rafa was fantastic, couldn’t recommend more
Hugo was incredibly knowledgable, fun and kind with a quieter group. The meals were well portioned and we even got to take some home with us! Great class!
Excellent tour with short walks to several producers/ tasting rooms. Our local guide João was brilliant from start to finish! He was very knowledgable and clearly passionate about the subject. He created a friendly and relaxed atmosphere for our group and we all had a great time! Highly recommend!
We had an amazing time on this tour! Our guide was Juan & he was fantastic! He was super knowledgeable, had a great sense of humour, remembered the names of most in our group (which actually means alot!) & he helped make this tour one of our best ones during our month long trip travelling through Europe. It’s a 3 hour tour that we didn’t want to end. We highly recommend this one & if you happen to get Juan as your guide, consider yourself lucky!
Would recommend this. Ricardo was a great guide with a very good knowledge but an even better sense of humour. The expert hosts in each place were informative and engaging.
Experienced 3 wineries and 3 different wines at each winery. The first winery was very informational but the rest were more for drinking. The group was big so the guide was not always helpful or educational. Guide was pleasant and other group members made it a good experience.
Our guide was great and although a large party he made time for us all. The 3 cellars were interesting and all different. The experience was good and entertaining.
Be prepared to drink nice little tastings if nine port wines, but having to listen to endless talking about everything from the history of the entire region to the microclimate of each grape grown to who produced it and when and in and on and on…… far too much talking.
Matheus is THE guide. He knows everything. Has much knowlegde, very enjoyable tour. Would definitely recommend. Greeting from the Netherlands
Víctor was a very nice and knowledgeable guide who listened to our questions. The tour was a good balance between established and new Porto wine producers
Our guide was lovely and welcoming. We got to visit 3 different places and try 7 ports and 2 wines, so good value for money. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Porto.
Matters, our guide, was knowledgeable and fun. He did a good job of explaining the wine business of the Douro valley and the making of port.
Excellent tour with a fantastic guide called Ricardo! He was very knowledgable and happy to answer any questions anyone had. An excellent range of ports and wine were sampled and Ricardo kept everyone entertained. The food at the third venue was very welcome to help soak up all the drinks! Would thoroughly recommend!
Wine history, and also getting out of the more traditional houses to meet and taste new ones? Amazing! The wine was so good, and the people around us so accommodating
Rico was a fun guide to lead a walking tour. We went to two places for tasting. The food at the first place wasn't great but the wine was fine. We then walked through Alfama and had more food and wine which was much better. Rico is very knowledgeable and we had a fun evening with him.
Ricardo was a brilliant tour guide, and we absolutely loved our tour. Really wonderful variation in the tastings and was lovely to support smaller wine producers
Our guide, Pedro C, was knowledgeable and fun. No pressure to buy from anyone, and more tastings than I had been expecting. Juliana, an owner at the final small business, was also very cheerful and enthusiastic. Note: There's about 10 minutes of uphill walking that is medium-strenuous.
Rita was the highlight of the tour. Great energy and enthusiasm. The wineries were historic and small producers. Great group of fellow guests too!
Very good tour with Efun Tours led by Vitor. Went to variety (3) of Port cellars (small and large) and learned many aspects of the aging and storage process. Well worth it. Only warning may be much of the walking is uphill with no sidewalks so be limber! Enjoyed very much.
Excellent guide, very informative and knowledgeable. Highly recommended. We also had a good group who all got on together which always helps
Ricardo was knowledgeable about the process and history of port wine. No doubt he has been doing this for many years (and did seem a bit bored presenting the tour). We loved that he took us to Portuguese wineries and not the big “British” ones. It felt more authentic. Don’t worry about tasting 10 different wines and ports - the serving sizes are small and over a couple of hours, so quite manageable. We suggest going after a good lunch and enjoy the good varieties offered.
João was amazing! So kind and so informative. Funny and making jokes the whole time! I definitely recommend this tour — lots of wine, ended up tipsy enough 😍 and with recommendations for other bars to visit.
Great guide. Interesting tour. Good vibes. Fun to see the Gaia area as we sipped Port wine. We weren’t rushed as we made our way through the history of port wine and the area. We would definitely do again
A lovely way to spend an afternoon in Gaia. Ricardo was very informative and explained all about the processes and differences between between the Port Wines. We went to 3 local and small wineries although not the 3 stated on the itinerary. There was no olive oil or honey tasting as stated. The walk was quite steep at first which some may need to be aware of but very doable for most people. Would defiantly recommend.
Richards was very nice and he seemed to know a lot about the wines/ports wineries that we went to. He was very friendly
It was great . Everything was perfect . I definitely would recommend people to go on this tour to understand lots about Porto wine
It starts with a little uphill climb, but then it’s all easy back to the start. Guide was great, and the tastings were all very good. Always good company at these type of excursions.
Fantastic experience, really casual, lots of great like minded people, very good port/wine tasting (some niche) . Would highly recommend, our tour guide was very friendly and added a touch of comedy along with lots of valuable knowledge
Good variety of wines and ports and definitely learnt some things. Good to see smaller, Portuguese brands
Highly recommend! We had a guide named Ricardo who was fun and extremely knowledgeable about all the winemaking processes and history. All the wines we tasted on the tour were delicious
Great fun and fab guide who was super entertaining and spoke excellent English. Good crowd with us ranging from UK to USA. Ports were all excellent and well chosen to the point that we bought Fonseca Bin 27 at duty free.
The description of the amount of walking and the level of difficulty varies with each tour and can make the difference between someone being able to participate and not. Despite what I was told prior to the tour and what actually occurred prevented my husband from participating. That said, the actual tour was great. Our guide was friendly and very knowledgeable. The wines were diverse and good to very good. It was a great way to get a tasting of what the area has to offer.
