Always exceptional!! We have been coming to this same location, same venue, for Fado since 2016. Now on our 6th visit. Obviously we wouldn’t attend over and over if we didn’t enjoy this fabulous one hour FADO musical experience! One will never be disappointed. Price is now 20€ which includes the one hour music show along with a glass of Port Wine at intermission. I love the small venue. Each and every visit is fun as it’s always different musicians and vocalists. We also bought a handmade Ukulele from here back in October 2018. Back then the retail store was at a different location but now, you can buy right from here. Definitely a MUST SEE when in Porto!

Itinerary
Listen to live fado inside the only shop in Porto that still hand-makes Portuguese guitars. This performance takes place at Casa da Guitarra, the only shop in the city that still crafts and displays handmade Portuguese stringed instruments, such as the Portuguese guitar. For an hour, listen to traditional fado performed live by local artists, with the Portuguese guitar played by the luthier and founder himself. The venue is small and acoustically intimate, designed to let you experience the emotion of fado up close. Enjoy the music with a glass of Port wine. More than just a concert, it’s a cultural immersion: you can explore the exhibition of traditional instruments and discover why fado has been recognised as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2011. The venue is situated in the historic centre, just a stone’s throw from the Cathedral, with sessions in the early evening and at night. Seats are limited; book in advance to secure yours.

We were entranced by the show and the whole experience. The seamless blend of Portuguese and English by the singers to describe the songs was appreciated. The venue was perfect to showcase the performance and the guitars. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the glass of port wine added that extra touch to the evening . We highly recommend this show to get a flavour of Fado.
This was the perfect cultural experience for me: sublime, authentic music; early start time; short concert; good seats; a glass of port. The instrumentals were expressive and precise and the singers were passionate professionals. One singer brought tears to my eyes three times and I have no idea what he was singing about! I'm a professional musician and this was top notch entertainment. Dispel any notions of this being a tourist trap and give in to an hour of great music.
Amazing show much better than in many restaurants hidden jam I highly recommend to go for €15. It’s a steel.
Wonferful show, a perfect fado show!
Fantastic Fado show. Very authentic experience-- highly recommended.
Intimate stage/venu located by the Ponte Luis I-bridge. The show lasted for about an hour, with a short break when they served a shot of port wine. The to singers performed with almost a heartbreaking nerve. Great show!
The guitarists - particularly the one who played Portuguese guitar- and the bass player were fantastic - a great rapport between them too! One of the fado singers was particularly good with a very rich voice and great presence. Thoroughly enjoyable evening.
This was one of my favorite experiences in Portugal! The performances were so beautiful and I was happy the audience wasn’t all recording everything on their phones. It was nice to just experience the music.
Amazing music and so genuine, highly recommended. Small auditorium so feels intimate
Great show, talented musicians and fabulous vocals.
A convenient location for a commercial type fado show. There are other options that are better and slightly more economical.
First experience of FADO and really enjoyed it
Absolutely outstanding! The musicians and singers were wonderful and the atmosphere was beautiful, exceeded our expectations. Definitely a highlight
Wonderful experience. Excellent musicians, intimate venue. Came away with a deeper appreciation of the music and a desire to try a Portuguese guitar!
What a treat. Excellent musicians, varied programme and a glass of port! An intimate venue with a small audience. A real highlight of our holiday , even though we didn’t understand the wards the performers conveyed the emotions beautifully
This was an experience not to be missed! I am sure there are a lot of Fado concerts in Porto but this was booked for us by our hotel. We got an Uber there and back. A glass of port started the evening and then the music began. A female singer and two guitarists, one on a Portuguese guitar and one on an acoustic classical guitar. Incredible musicians and the singer had a lovely voice, she explained what the songs were about beforehand. It is worth seeing a Fado show if you are in Portugal as it is part of the heritage of the country and it was a nice evening out.
Really pleased we booked this 'traditional' Portuguese show. The voices of the singers were amazing, clear, true and full of passion, and the instrumentalists were superb. The whole team were friendly and helpful - thoroughly enjoyable, lovely experience and well worth the visit when in Porto.
Beautiful songs. My experience not that good since the female singer was sick, coughing a lot. That shouldn’t happened. Male singer was romantic and beautiful. Guitar’s excellent performance.
Just an average fado show, with no soul or passion. It felt as if the performers were there only to earn money rather than create a memorable experience. I chose this venue because I thought it might be something special. The photos online showed a cello, which was one of the reasons I booked. The cello was indeed on the stage, but it was never played during the performance. The female singer appeared to be quite ill and spent much of the show coughing. What made it worse was that she was often coughing directly toward the audience, including us. I genuinely felt sorry for her, as she seemed unwell and probably should not have been performing. The male singer did not seem engaged either. He was wearing trainers, kept his hands in his pockets, and gave the impression that he had just walked in from the street to sing a few songs and collect his pay. I have attended much better fado performances in Porto. Unfortunately, I would not return to this venue and cannot recommend it to others.
This is our second experience of a Fado concert in Porto. The male singer’s voice and expression is absolutely out of this world. The only downside is the setup and atmosphere of the venue — it’s very difficult to see the performers if you’re sitting at the back, especially when other guests hold their phones high to take videos.
Nice experience. Helpful staff Interesting music Easy to find venue
A really nice way to spend an hour in Porto. Getting a little taste of the Fado artistic tradition. Three excellent musicians and two passionate singers. A glass of tasty port wine included during intermission. If you reserve the 6 pm show, you can continue with a walk over the Dom Luis Bridge just in time to get a sunset perch or take the cable car which was quite fun too.
Real fado, pop in and enjoy you won't be disappointed plus glass of porto is a bonus to clear your senses.
Beautiful music and singing in a lovely, small venue. The Casa do Guitarra is also a musical instrument workshop.
This was excellent and well worth it. The musician were very professional and the 2 lady singers were amazing. The port at the break was a nice touch.
This was a nice experience to listen for the first time to Fado Music. The inherent characteristics of this style are: while the guitars sound rather happy and positive, the songs are sad and and set in "minor". Both the instrumentalists and the two singers were of excellent quality.
Wonderful Fado performance in a great venue. We all really enjoyed the musicians (and the port)!
Recommend this great introduction to traditional Fado from talented musicians and singers. We found the show captivating throughout, emotional and with audience participation. The port was welcome!
Such a beautiful experience and so talented musicians! Must see!
Warm intimate atmosphere. Great musicians and charismatic singer. We loved it..!
Best fado show and voices of the three Fado shows we saw in Portugal. Place is good located and easy walk from the historic center
Location of the Casa do Guitar is great. Amazing display of musical instruments. Very inspiring singers with beautiful voices.
The Fado Show was wonderful , it felt very authentic and atmospheric . The venue was special with many guitars on show, we had a warm welcome and really enjoyed listening, and watching the three musicians and two female vocalists , excellent. We were treated to a glass of Port too ! We would highly recommend . Very easy to find at the start of the bridge walk.
It was good experience for Portugal traditional music. If you are first time to visit, you have to go for a watching. After you can enjoy the thr Mouro garden and Luis bridge with sun set.
Wonderful evening in the small venue (around 60 people). Three instrumentalists accompanied by two singers, each performing solo. A glass of very nice port was included and served at the intermission. We really enjoyed the experience!
Excellent performance in an intimate venue. One solid hour of Fada with 4 musicians and 2 singers. Acoustics were terrific. Music: brilliant!
Loved how handy it was to the centre of the old town ! Wonderful we were able to see 2 singers with amazing instrumentation. ! Loved the studio with all the various guitars and history on the walls ! But it felt a bit staged and clinical . From what I had read it is meant to be off the cuff and what the singer is feeling at that moment ! But outstanding voices and songs
We were spellbound by the beauty and passion of Fado by the singers and the musicians. It was a fabulous evening in a convivial welcoming atmosphere.
Tremendous music in centrally located venue. Very worthwhile. Our night had two great singers with a bass, fado guitar and regular classical guitar- all very accomplished musicians. Glass of port was an extra bonus
Had a short overnight visit from Lisbon to Porto with a friend, and we happened upon Casa da Guitarra and saw the sign for the fado music. Bought a couple of tickets, not fully knowing what this would entail. We could NOT have been more pleased with and impressed by this experience! Simply amazing, to listen to incredible fado music for the first time in such a wonderful venue - a museum of sorts, displaying various kinds of guitars and mandolins along all the walls. The 2 musicians accompanying the singers were amazing, and the 2 singers left me speechless. What a fabulous introduction to this beautiful cultural experience!
Great venue just nearby the bridge but stil very cosy. They allowed my kids to enter even if they were 5. Singers and players were mesmerizing
It was a lovely experience and the served Port wine was a cherry on the cake. The two guitarist represented a master level skills and both singers (men and female) provided a nice variety and made sure to fit different tastes.
Intimate acoustic performance by gifted musicians and singers in an interesting room surrounded by lovely instruments. Recommended.
It was excellent, we enjoyed the show. The voices of the singers were perfect. The location is very easy to reach. We are offered a glass of porto wine which was good.
As our very first experience with Fado music, the concert was perfect. The guitar players were so very good and the 2 Fado performers were mesmerizing! Having a glass of port wine while enjoying the show was ideal.
A must do for experiencing the culture of Portugal . Really cute place and excellent musicians and singers
I love acoustic music so when I saw a Fado with acoustic guitar I knew I had to go. It did NOT disappoint! The instrumentalists were amazing and the 2 women who sang were awesome! Perfectly balanced performance-complete with a port during intermission. Highly recommend!
Incredible musicians, friendly staff, an intimate space with a complimentary glass of port wine. What’s not to love? The room does get warm, so be aware of that in case you overheat easily. Otherwise, this is a great venue to see a fado show.
So sorry arrived 10 minutes late. Could not get picked up the rides were so busy. The main door was open just a crack and the sign was in front of it. For a moment wondered if I was in the right place or if they closed entry. What an opportunity to experience Fado in a monastery. How is this possible? On site orator was excellent. The story was Hermano da Camara, born in 1934, was naturally gifted musician. He had some royal heritage. His father did not want him to have a career in music. He gained success in the 1950s. In 1961 he began his career as a Benedictine Monk marked by his recording the Fado da Despedida. He was a musical sensation. He felt music was a vehicle of faith. He donated his money to the congregation. He filled the monastery with his music. Fado stopped until 2024 when the monastery was permitted to reopen for Fado. How lucky I was to enjoy this. The guitarists use a Fado guitar with its own sound. The singers voice was beautiful and powerful. Wondered if it was real. It was. No assistance. . In addition the orator shared his knowledge of this baroque space. Also so interesting. He pointed out secrets of the build. A memorable experience on all accounts. If I return to Porto worth a revisit. Additionally my phone was running out of charge after a long day of touring. The young woman at the door charged it for me. A great Ambassador for Porto.
