Similar to their Port & Wine Experience, this time you immerse yourself in cacao and chocolate production in an easy-to-digest format. You get to try some chocolate at the end and play a game to win a small bar. This is part of the WOW day pass, but we also went to their Vinte Vinte café afterwards for an indulgent hot chocolate and a Porto coffee which were both amazing.

My husband and I visited this museum whilst spending the day in the WoW District and had an enjoying few hours here. We purchased a 28 hour ticket for around £35pp giving us access to all of the WoW museums which, having visited, is excellent value. We visited during February and the crowds were fairly low meaning we were able to walk through the museum at our own pace as there were very few people there with us. The museum was very informative, it perhaps wasn't as 'fun' as you might expect a chocolate museum to be, instead focusing on a lot of factual information but it really took you through the process of chocolate making from bean harvesting to being on the shelves. There were some interactive exhibits and 'hands on' experiences such as scent smelling but overall, this is definitely a chocolate museum for grown ups. At the end there is some chocolate tasking and machinery as the museum is actually a working chocolate factory! You also get given a token to try winning a chocolate gift from the grab machine which was fun. As you may expect, there's a large gift shop at the end selling a variety of chocolate products. The gift shop is quite expensive but there's some really high quality, good chocolate in there. We spent a little more than we had planned but we bought back some amazing chocolate you can't easily get hold of at home. All in all, this was an informative museum and enjoyable experience. I'd recommend it.
A good experience when getting multiple museums on the WOW tickets. You do get a tasting on Port in a little chocolate cup at the end. Also you get a token for a “claw” machine to get a chocolate bar and it seemed as though you could run it until you got one of the items.
Cork shop was the best. Alice is very professional and speaking good English. Positive experience. ❤️
Lots of reading up and history of chocolate. It was a nice break, enjoyed it. We just did a self guided tour. You can read what you want and skip the rest. The end you get to sample chocolates, port or grape juice. There’s a cafe at the end, too, after the store. It’s cute, but not required. Fun for family but maybe not small kiddos.
Surprised how boring the exhibits were. Lots of words to read and very few interactive elements. We were saved by the tasting at the end of the route.
This museum has fabulous interactive exhibits and just enough text to hold my interest but not overwhelm. I learned so much about the origins, growing, processing and final production of chocolate! The bonus was three sample stations with a docent to describe what I was trying. The gift shop has very reasonable prices for fantastic quality chocolate! The cafe has amazing chairs. Overall a fantastic experience. We combined with the cork museum and were so happy! Visit today!
Everything you could possibly want to know about how chocolate is grown, processed, and turned into the products that we are familiar with today. Plus, opportunities to taste different kinds of chocolate.
The best place to buy gifts for little children and souvenirs. Next time in Portugal I will come back with more empty room in my luggage.
This museum was extremely dull and hugely overpriced for what you get. I would not recommend it to anyone. It costs 20EUR each and was fundamentally just a load of information about the history of chocolate on the walls of various rooms. So the experience is just wandering around a set of rooms reading the information on the walls. There were a few sacks of cocoa beans scattered around but no interactivity until the very last room. We expected much more interactivity and possibly some chocolate! At the very end there is a arcade grab machine were you get one go each to win a medium sized bar of chocolate (which non of us managed) and then four tiny (and I mean really small) bits of chocolate to taste. So we spent 80 Euros for the four of us on one of the dullest “museums” I’ve ever been to that only included a tiny amount of chocolate tasting. We should have just spent the 80 Euros on a book about chocolate and various bars of chocolate in their gift shop! The fact that we only encountered two other visitors in the whole place speaks volumes.
Knowledgeable guide with great pairings. Learned a lot about the chocolate and port process. Definitely a cool experience.
Very interesting story of cocoa and how it spread around the world. Montezuma made a big mistake with Cortez. But we got chocolate around the world quickly.
the staff member thursday feb 9th at 14h50 ( the date and time is to ensure that the right staff member is mentioned as others might be polite and kind) was rude and dismissive. when we asked about pricing, she tersely stated the price for a one museum visit then when we enquired about prices for residents as opposed to tourists said 'that is the price'. it is only afterward that we discovered that we could purchase reduced price tickets for a two or three museum visit. the staff member did not tell us. this was so disappointing since until then our time in porto where we actually live has been full of hospitable, kind people. we then went to a restaurant on the douro, in the district, the view, and experienced that wonderful hospitality. made up for the rudeness but still.
A very beautiful experience of how chocolate came to Europe and especially how it is made. Super beautiful museum. A recommendation to buy a combo ticket that also gives access to the other WOW museums.
Excellent experience! And it's great to be able to try so many chocolates.
Good, but more to do with children, but a bit short if you compare the price and the time on site; if you read all the information, indeed 1h/1h30 of visiting, without reading everything maximum 45/50 min, maybe a tad expensive for the duration, but a nice and immersive discovery
Very overpriced museum, poor value for money! 45€ for 2 adults and one child... the child had no highlights except to taste four small pieces of chocolate. Totally overpriced....
Very interesting, a little over an hour with tasting. Recommended!
Good experience For gourmets a lot of tasting. Visit neither too short nor too long to take care of for 45min, 1 hour
There are many interesting museums to visit in the family, but this will definitely not be the case. The ticket is very expensive for what the experience offers. museum has few interesting pieces, just a lot of colors and hyperstimulation to try to tell the history of chocolate. The part from the harvest of cocoa to the production of chocolate is the only really interesting, culminating with the chocolate factory. However, once again the disillusionment in what should be the high point: the taste of chocolate is terrible. I tasted the white, the black, the milk, the pepper... all bad. It is better to put a chocolate from the brand pingo sweet or lidl, they are definitely more tasty.
The museum is worth it. It's an exciting topic that you don't know much about. Chocolate can be tasted in the museum. At the end there is a shop and a café.
Very interesting, I learned a lot about the history of chocolate. The two girls who were supporting the visit were very available in explaining the different types of cocoa and their origins. I ended this experience drinking a hot chocolate in the store and… I really enjoyed it.
Love the WOW! We've been several times. We visit the excursions of wines, chocolate, restaurants etc. a complex that is worth visiting for the beauty of the place, ineffable views, quality food, delicious wines. Funny and interactive place. To go whenever you are in Gaia or Porto!
I loved the chocolate taste, the wow team is fantastic and they made my day! I loved very educational and didactic! A special thanks to everyone who made my visit so special!
