Porto: Authentic Fado Music By The River

Excellent music, authentic singing and musicianship.

I was so excited to experience an authentic fado show with my friend who lives in Porto and speaks Portuguese l. During the break for applause I asked what the lyrics of the previous song meant. She gave me a brief summary but stopped suddenly when the guitarist began to shush us like we were in the principals office in elementary school. The singer was absolutely fantastic and talented but unfortunately the smug attitude of the guitarist ruined the night. If you want to play for tourists, accept that they will be curious. If you want an all Portuguese audience, accept your pay cut and go to the streets. For reference, the guitarist in question looks like the Beast from the 1986 Beauty and the Beast series

The experience at Cais do Dado was amazing. The vocalist was superb and the string accompaniment was outstanding. I highly recommend this short (1 hour) concert to experience Northern Portuguese culture!

A magical combination of voice and guitars in an intimate atmosphere! Hauntingly beautiful fado (fate) music about love, loss, history of the Portuguese people. The cabaret-like setting gave us an up-close musical experience - they also serve you a glass of quality porto tinto, water, or soda! We also were able to speak with the guitarist and the singer after the show - they were gracious, warm and friendly. Anyone coming to Porto needs to put Cais do Fado on their "to-do" list, for sure! I got lost and walked all the way down the river to the Rebello Hotel because my Google maps said that was the Cais da Gaia. The concert is in the green building on the riverfront closer to the bridge. The people at the door are extremely nice. The music was fantastic.

Quaint small setting. One hour was just the right amount of time to get an idea of what Fado music was.

Beautiful singing, delicious wine, and very accommodating - they opened with a love song in honor of our honeymoon!

The show was great. You get a glass of port and my son got a juice. The musicians were very talented and able to communicate in multiple languages, which was cool. The performance was about an hour, which is perfect if you are bringing kids along. We did the 5pm show and the timing and length was perfect. Would definitely recommend!

Very authentic Fado show. The singer was wonderful and the musicians were great. Good location and a complimentary glass of port served as well. A great way to immerse yourself in the culture and history of Porto.

Excellent Fado concert, the singer and two guitarists were so talented and it was a lovely bonus to have a glass of port to enjoy it. It was an intimate setting and the right length of time for us (1hr)

That you will learn nothing about Fado & what it means in their culture. Didn’t show the instruments, didn’t explain or give any hints about what the singer was so passionately signing about. You could have listened to the music on radio or pandora…. You don’t need to waste $ going there. When I asked one of the musicians about it after the show- he was rude & said the music you just had to experience as it was. 😳

Very easy to book this special concert..The fadista was amazing, really passionate about her songs, her voice so strong and compelling. The guitar players were awesome, loved hearing their art. Such a relaxing, intimate experience. So pretty having the river as the background. The Port wine added to the beautiful atmosphere. It was so special for our last night in Porto! Thank you!

We saw the early show. It is a lovely intimate setting with a beautiful singer and great musicians. It was a wonderful introduction to the art of Fado.

We had a wonderful time listening and learning about fado music and the traditional Portuguese guitar and viola de Fado (guitar). The musicians were both excellent and our singer for the evening was surely the Celine Dion of the Fado genre. We loved our port wine and our sweet and friendly service by the lovely Diana. Thanks for a memorable time in Porto!

Lovely traditional music performed by talented musicians who care. Bravo Might be useful to announce at the beginning of the show to avoid unnecessary conversations during performance show. There was a group who continued to talk during the performance which I found took away from the mood.

We booked Cais do Fado in advance and thoroughly enjoyed the one hour performance and atmosphere. We would highly recommend to anyone visiting Porto for excellent show and entertainment.

We were excited to get to experience Fado this trip and it did not disappoint. It was a very memorable performance and I even found some songs to add to some of my playlists to listen to back home.

Beautiful place, right in the heart of Porto, with beautiful scenery. The building was very pretty. Now for the main act we were given a glass of wine of our choice ( red or white) and the music was lovely. The men at the guitars were incredible playing and the 2 voices we heard absolutely stunning! There was even a part where the public was involved in the song! Loved the experience!

Wow what a passionate , personal and intimate performance ! I did not understand a word but it didn’t matter - I had goosebumps ! Loved every minute and it would have to be a must do in Porto !! I have been to 2 other Fados and this outshone them both !

I heard about Fado only recently , through doing my research about cultural experiences to immerse myself in when traveling to Portugal. This was one of the highlights for my time in Portugal , the singer ( I wish I remembered her name ) was phenomenal, and the two gentleman on the instruments were amazing too. The location can’t be beaten either , the location is right in front of the river and the bridge , so sunset looks breathtaking here . Definitely check out this show if you’re in Portugal , you won’t regret it .

This is a delightful experience of traditional Fado musical. It is set in an intimate room above the old rowing club. The artists were all first class and the port wine and whole experience was very enjoyable.

This was an amazing and intimate experience, they keep a small crowd so not too many people and every seat was a great one. However we were lucky enough to sit by the window and listening to the Fado music as the sun set over Porto will be a memory I will keep with me forever. This musical connection with the deep historical roots of Porto is an absolute must on your itinerary here. I wouldn’t miss it and would recommend to everyone coming to Porto. The musicians are just so talented and the singer is spellbinding.

My friend from the area pushed us into attending the event. Ana Ferreira and her two man band didn't dissappoint. She belted out numbers all in Portuguese and even though we didn't understand the words, we still enjoyed the passion and her voice. It was very entertaining.

This was so special! Exceptionally professoinal (classically trained?) and humble musicians playing melodious emotional music. A little but not much English so could only appreciate the music and the musicianship, particularly the Portuguese guitar, which sounded a bit like a Greek balalaika to my non-speciist ear! A huge highlight of the trip. Should be supported. We left the musicians a tip.

It’s wonderful!! This is my first time to attend a Fado concert and I’m in love with the music. I highly recommend anyone to go to a Fado concert if you happened to be in Porto.

Amazing experience!! Highly recommend. Quaint setting…max 20ish capacity …there were maybe 12 in the room when we went. The performers were outstanding!!

The ambiance was cozy and authentic. The whole performance was in Portuguese, which made it feel very real and true to the tradition. The singer was full of passion, and the guitarists were incredibly talented. A incredible experience — definitely worth seeing in Porto!

This was a very touching experience into the folklore singing from past days in Portugal. I would highly recommend booking this. It’s a lovely hour of true meaningful songs that touches your soul.

Ana Ferreira was our fadista, and what a moving performance she gave. The venue is perfectly suited to an intimate audience and a beautifully judged selection of music made for a delightful evening. I regret that I cannot remember the names of the truly excellent guitarists but they deserve equal billing with Ana for the sheer emotional depth of their performance. I’m so glad we went!

Our family had the pleasure of experiencing the Fado performance with this amazing group on our first day of arrival to Porto on June 9, 2025. The experience was intimate and unique. To be able to sit right in front of the singer and the guitar players, you could feel the emotion and the Passion of the performers. By chance, the infant daughter of our singer was there also which made the experience even more special. It was a wonderful experience and we could not recommend it highly enough. The free beverage (Porto or juice) also complemented the experience. We were mesmerized by the music and the singing, as we sat with a view of the Duoro river outside the windows.

Such beautiful music from Portuguese history. The singer had such a voice and presence and the musicians were excellent. The venue was lovely and comfortable and felt historic. Great hour to spend down at the river in Gaia!

Great show, great energy. You get a free glass of port and sit at cafe tables like a cabaret. The show is in Portuguese but it didn’t matter at all. The three artists were consummate in their instruments. The show was just the right length, 1 hour, and the whole audience joined in for the last song. Perfect. Brad

I was unsure of this when I booked the experience to add a little "culture" to our trip, but Ana Ferreira and her guitarists were fantastic! We ALL loved the show! Songs were emotional, not really sad, and Ana explained the Fado tradition. Venue was conveniently located and comfortable. Highly, highly recommend!!

It would be great if the singer mentioned what she was so dramatically singing about. The "guitar" players were great.

Excellent Fado experience, excellent venue by the river, staff were friendly and the music was soothing and the vocalist had a great voice. Port and water was also served, lasted 1 hour which was just right!
