Porto Walking Tour - The Perfect Introduction To The City

Amazing experience. Learned a lot. Jorge was a great guide.

This walking tour of Porto was highly insightful and told from the point of view of someone who calls the city home. Our tour explored some key neighborhoods and we learned about Porto’s role in helping shape Portugal’s history. The only reason I didn’t give it a full five stars is that we didn’t visit many of the places advertised in the TripAdvisor listing like the jail, Dom Luís I bridge, and São Bento station, to name a few. At the places we did visit, our guide provided a thorough historical rundown. He was knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. This tour was a great starting place to get acquainted with the city.

George was an excellent tour guide giving a really interesting history of Porto city , the architecture and people explaining about how tiles were made, the city’s architecture and information about the buildings and churches, he also gave us useful tips about good places to eat, we wouldn’t hesitate at all in recommending this tour it’s a must! Very knowledgeable and interesting guide. He could answer whatever questions we had. Good length of the tour and good with a little break in the middle.

The tour was ok. I wished that we would have walked around the city to see more sites and learn a bit more history. We seemed to do a lot of talking in each spot. A lot of standing still.

Out guide Gainfranco was immensely knowledgeable and very communicative, and made our tour unforgetteable. Very balanced experience with notions of history, local life and anecdotes. Informative, funny, interactive tour. Our guide had huge general knowledge re all aspects of Porto. Even went above and beyond by emailing us good recommendations for food/drink/entertainment off the beaten tourist-trap circuit.

The tour was informative and entertaining and the perfect introduction to Porto after traveling from Lisbon earlier in the day. Filipe was very knowledgeable and engaging as our tour guide and even sent his personal recommendations for sightseeing abd dining out, which proved to be spot on!

Felipe is a fab guide - very good English/uses a microphone and so can be heard clearly/a great guy - humorous and very knowledgeable about Porto/good restaurant etc recommendations too.

Great walking tour. Highly recommend this tour. He took us to some hidden historical buildings that you might normally find yourself, a park in the city with references to Harry Potter, great information and lively commentar.

Jorge, our Guide, was absolutely brilliant! So knowledgeable with so many facts from the creation of Porto to the modern day! The tour was almost two and a half hours, an easy walking pace, and Jorge filled that time with facts and humour too! Best Guide ever! Sue

It’s one of the best free walking tours I have participated in. Miguel was funny, he is extremely knowledgeable about Porto and its history although he only moved here from Brazil 10 years ago. He got a PhD in history, no wonder why he is a great story teller.

Jorge was a fantastic guide. He combined his incredible knowledge and passion for Porto with his genuine love of food, making the whole experience both enjoyable and memorable. We did several tours during our time in Porto, and Jorge was by far the most knowledgeable and charismatic guide we had. His enthusiasm, expertise and personality really brought the city to life. We had a medium size group, and the tour lasted around 2 1/2 hours, so the a gentle pace- seeing many of the must see landmarks in Porto. We would highly recommend a tour with Jorge!

This was a great way to start my visit to Porto. I arrived late, and it got me up and going, even with jet lag. I got a basic overview and went back to a few of the places the guide suggested. Worth 10 stars.

Jorge was the perfect guide. His historical knowledge was superb and his love for the city shone through everything which was wonderful. The tour lasted for 2 hours and was an easy and relaxing walk. The group photo was quite lovely and his offer of help should we need it whilst in Porto was very kind.

This was the perfect introduction to Porto! We learned so much! Jorge was a fantastic guide. The information he provided covered Porto's history in an engaging way with a sprinkle of humour throughout. Delightful. In addition to historic buildings, we visited a tile store and received historical information about the art of tile making. At the end of the tour a photograph was taken and we were provided with an email that included the picture and recommendations for places to eat. In short, the tour provided valuable information that guided a number of activities we enjoyed during our trip - things we would likely not have known about if we had not signed up for this tour.

Nice tour and introduction to the city. It moved at a good pace and Flilipe was very good explaining all the landmarks and giving his recommendations. I would highly recommend this tour especially with Felipe.

The tour with Monica was amazing! She was funny, entertaining, and full of great information. Her love for Porto is apparent in the way she expresses herself. She kept everyone’s attention and made the whole tour feel fun and relaxed. She took us to all the top spots and gave us many useful tips along the way — what’s actually worth seeing, what you can skip, which attractions are free, and which ones you need to pay for. It was especially helpful having someone who knew the city and could point out things we probably would have missed on our own. She stopped in perfect view of the sight and gave you ample time to take pictures while she explained. At the end of the tour, Monica even sent us a list of her recommendations for places to visit, restaurants, fado, and other tours. We had such a great time and I would absolutely recommend Monica to anyone visiting. Taking a tour with her is a must — you won’t regret it!

Felipe was an excellent guide. He provided historical context in a way that was engaging, honest, and easy to follow. He also a provided a wonderful list of restaurant recommendations at the end of the tour.

Filipe was a great tour leader. He is very good at engaging people, clearly knows the history of the country and city was very encouraging of and responsive to questions. The tour itself was great- about 2 1/4 hours around the major historical sites including a very scenic walk across the river on a bridge designed by Gustave Eiffel (of the tour fame). We highly recommend Filipe as a tour leader.

Felipe was an excellent guide with vast amounts of knowledge about Porto which he explained brilliantly using some humour. The meeting was the only thing that confused me as there was no obvious way to see which of the many English speaking guides we were meant to meet up with as none of them had any signs. Still not sure we ended up in the right group, but a great tour and I’m glad we ended up with Felipe

We chose this tour based on reviews. Very happy we did. It was easy to find the meeting spot. Our tour guide was Monica. She was very friendly and inclusive. She provided us with the history and added tips. During our tour she also bought everyone a delicious pastel de nata (Portuguese custard tart) . At the end of the tour she gave many recommendations for good and affordable food options and sites. Please remember to bring cash as the guides depend on tips as tour is free. Very informative tour guide but the group was far too big, hard to keep with whole group on the move and despite the microphone it was difficult to hear with group size

This walking tour with Vinnie was perfect to introduce me to a taster of heat Porto has to offer and provided me with a hood understanding of the area. Vinnie made the walking tour fun and pleasant, his English was very clear and st the end he will provide you with an email of lots of recommendations.

Very knowledgeable and personable young guide who provided great insights into Porto and Portuguese history, architecture, restaurants and culture. Highly recommend whether this is your first visit or not. We later went on to enjoy lunch at Jorge’s restaurant and to buy some tiles and some clothes at Don Lopo!

Excellent walking tour with George! His knowlege, patience, and humor was what made this tour exceptional. I would absolutely book any tour with him again. He was able to explain the various stops succinctly and there wasn’t any lag time. For me, the tile shop, the tower, and the history of the old part of the city were the most interesting.
