Your Tour begins at the statue of Bishop António Ferreira Gomes, right across from the iconic Clérigos Tower. Look up and marvel at the impressive 75.6-meter height of this historic landmark!
Prepare to be captivated by the breathtaking beauty of Porto’s city center, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Among its highlights is the iconic Clérigos Church, one of the first in Portugal to adopt the distinctive baroque elliptical floorplan.
You’ll get a chance to see the world-famous Lello bookstore and hear how its connection to Harry Potter has made it one of the most popular bookstores on the planet today.
Marvel at the stunning tilework of São Bento Station, featuring over 20,000 “azulejos” by Jorge Colaço. These murals depict key moments in Portugal’s history and colorful rural scenes from across the country.
As you make your way through the twisting ancient streets and out of the city center, you’ll be faced with amazing panoramic views, and will encounter the impressive Douro River. Not only does the river host the iconic Dom Luís I bridge, it’s also the home to Porto’s famed Port wine industry.
Keep your camera ready as your expert local guide leads you past the beloved Porto Cathedral. It is one of the city's oldest monuments and one of the most important local Romanesque monuments.

Beautiful City wish we would’ve spent more time in Porto would even maybe skip Lisbon to go to Porto nice tour enjoyable, walking for all ages easy to understand tour guide truly proud to live and work in Porto that love Imshowed up in his tour
Says it’s a free walking tour but then badger the people into giving them a tip. We always tip but don’t claim it’s free and then yell at people when they don’t tip. Completely unprofessional of a company to do this. I will never take a tour with them again.
This tour was great! Our guide, Ines, was amazing! So passionate and knowledgeable. Her stories were entertaining and gave us such a feeling of connection to the city of Porto. She really went above and beyond. Thanks!
I went on a particularly interesting tour in Porto with our guide, Diana. She spoke in detail about the important sights in the city, showing at every step how knowledgeable she is in her field and how much passion she puts into what she does. I hope you get to meet her, too!
Arthur was an excellent tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and made the history fun with his enthusiasm and antidotes.
Great tour telling us the history of Porto in an entertaining way. Diana was a great guide we are so glad we had her. She's hilarious and passionate we had a great time. She also touched on current life in Porto which really interested us.
It was a wonderfully informative walking tour with Artur, we learned a lot in the 2.5 hours , however we were very disappointed to find out that it is a “free” tour and the guide is paid only in tips….and we paid £3.50 each to tripadvisor having booked via them which we subsequently found out that this was unnecessary and the walk was gratis.
SANDEMANs has once again delivered an excellent service for new visitors. Our guide today, Diana, was a delight! Her passion for Porto was so obvious. She shared her detailed knowledge of the history of this colourful place with energy and humour. She tailored the information to suit the group’s interests and style, and she gave us heaps of extra information about life in this city. We had such an excellent time today, thanks to Diana, and we can’t wait to explore more of Porto with confidence.
Diogo is by far the best tour guide we had on our holiday. He is hilarious and extremely knowledgeable about the city life and history. Absolutely fantastic, highly recommend him!
We had just arrived in Porto and joined João’s tour as our first activity – and it was perfect! He’s super charming, full of fun and useful insights (not just boring dates!), and even remembers everyone’s names. We loved his restaurant tips away from the touristy spots. Highly recommend!
Considering the tour is mainly on cobble stones, it’s very accessible for a European city. Andre does a good job of moving people into the shade for explanations whenever possible. He does an excellent job of sharing Portugal’s history and is able to tie it into modern day. He is extremely knowledgable and very personable. Would highly recommend this tour.
Jaao’s tour was fun and gave a colorful introduction to the history of the area. He showed us how the layers of history reflected in Porto’s buildings and culture.
João, our guide, was the best guide we ever had in any country. João’s passion about the history and the culture of Porto and Portugal in general, was fascinating! The 3 hours flew by without realising it. Thanks again João! You are the best!
We had a tour led by Arthr. He was very knowledgeable and engaging. Top class guide. I personally felt it was a little long on a hot day, and in the end I couldn’t take in the information. I think it should be made shorter, with perhaps more succinct information.
Joao was our Sandeman tour leader and he did an excellent job giving us a great walking tour with lots of information. He was knowledgeable, smart, and personable. I highly recommend him as a tour leader. He also gave us restaurant recommendations. Nice job Joao!!
We have done several Sandemans walking tours in different european cities and I think this one in Porto was the best out of them all. This was mainly thanks to our guide João who was very engaging, informative and funny. We saw all the main Porto sites and learned a lot about Porto in general. The tour included a short break at a local Confeitaria where we could buy a quick snack if we chose to (the pastries were delicious) or use the bathroom. This was a nice touch!
Joao was excellent . He was local and passionate about his city of Porto. His knowledge of Porto was thorough and he presented it with the right amount humor
This was a very informative tour with good historical and cultural information. Our guide Joao Costa was very attentive to the individuals in the group, and led the group at a good pace with well planned stops at points of interest.
Excellent walking tour of Porto with lots of good historical input from our guide, João. Another good Sandemans walking tour!
Amazing tour! Absolutely loved it from start to finish. This tour was nearly 3 hours and he knew his stuff. Highly recommended 😊
We had the most amazing experience on our Porto walking tour with Jaoa. He was very knowledgeable, engaging and humorous. He gave a great historical background to the people, buildings and sites of the city. We would highly recommend this tour.
It was a very well structured experience of Porto! Our guide Joao is a great storyteller and was knowledgeable- he answered our questions , shared extra details about the city and the places
An excellent tour led by Joao, passionate on the subject of Porto and well versed on the history. One of the best walking tours I've taken!
Excellent! As a native portuence, Joāo’s account of Porto’s significance, past and present, was succinct and enlightening.
The tour was great! I highly recommend our guide, João! He is funny, engaging, interesting - full of energy - and very considerate of everyone in the group. I learned a lot.
Very worthwhile walking tour and very well administered. Our guide, João, was fantastic, very knowledgeable and really made history come alive.
João was such a brilliant tour guide, for sure recommend if you are visiting Porto. You will learn a lot and have a nice time.
We arrived in Porto and immediately booked a tour with Sandeman, like we always do when we arrive to a capital city where Sandeman free walking tours are available. João Costa was our guide and during the walking tour he showed us all the highlights of the city. We really enjoyed the tour.
Tbh every walking tour you see will have the same material, the way it's delivered changes the experience. João goes above and beyond, remembered people's names and nationalities and kept everyone engaged throughout. The extra effort he put in after the tour to help me plan my Portugal trip really resounds how friendly and helpful he is, would recommend to someone new to the city and wanting to understand a bit of history.
Really enjoyed the tour. Joao was really engaging and funny. I wanted away from tour feeling a lot more informed and had a better sense of what I wanted to explore on my own.
Joao was great!! Highly informative, very nice, appropriately humorous, gave just the right of information, and would recommend highly!!🙏😊
João was an excellent guide with great insights and knowledge about the city where he is from. On the tour on 3rd June He was very engaging, funny and encouraged the group to get to know a bit about each other. The tour was well paced and included a variety of interesting stops. One of the best sandman’s tours that I have done, and credit must go to João. Highly recommended
João was a tremendous guide bringing an in depth knowledge of and a passion for his subject. He was very professional herding a sizeable crowd around busy streets. Recommend this Free Tour to anybody as an introduction to Porto.
João was a fantastic guide. Very informative and entertaining. Got a real sense of Porto. His recommendation for lunch was excellent. Highly recommend.
Great introduction to Porto by our lovely guide Joao. He made the history of the city and its personalities come alive. One of the most unique uses of props in a walking tour I have ever seen - truly engaging and entertaining! Highly recommended.
Our guide, Andre, shared his love for Porto and his extensive knowledge of its history with great enthusiasm. He ensured that we all introduced ourselves which helped us feel comfortable in the group. He also ensured we were standing out of the sun when he was explaining things. Excellent walking tour and very good guide!
Artur was very friendly, amusing, enthusiastic & informative, but we felt there was too much information. It was really difficult to absorb all the information, especially for one member of our group, who speaks excellent English, but it isn’t her first language. Artur spoke very fast, which was difficult for all of us to keep up with him, but especially for this member of our group. Also all the information received, it said it was a FREE walking tour. Artur also announced it as a Free walking tour. When I told Artur we had paid Tripadvisor for the tour, he said he didn’t receive any of that money! We therefore ended up giving Artur a good tip, as well as paying £13.52 to tripadvisor.
I first have to apologize for taking so long in writing this brief review. We visited Porto via train from Lisbon on Tue Feb 25 and scheduled a walking tour. Arthur was our guide and he was excellent! My wife and I really enjoyed the tour. Arthur was an excellent guide and well versed in the history of Porto and Portugal. We would highly recommend.
Artur was amazing and very knowledgeable about all things Porto. He was very passionate about history and made the tour very enjoyable. I’d highly recommend.
Artur was very knowledgeable and provided a very entertaining and welcoming introduction to his home city. Highly recommended
Diana is an exceptional guide. Informative , entertaining and very knowledgeable. Her love of Porto is contagious and she made this a wonderful 2 hours !
Artur is fab and knows his stuff! Coffee and pastel de nata stop included. Lots of interesting information and beautiful views
We did the free walking tour & learned so much about Porto. Our guide, João, was really engaging, entertaining & made history even a bit amusing. A 10 for his props! A 10 for the tour itself. Would highly recommend.
Great tour with an excellent guide Joao! The steep Porto streets became bearable while we shift in the timeline of historic events.
Diana was amazing! Very outgoing and knowledgeable! She showed us the sights, told us the history, stopped for a drink and gave us a list of suggestions for everything!
We went tour with a baby who is 5months old , me and my husband are very well travelled and wherever we went, we joined free walking tour And this time in porto with "Diana" was one of the best!! Really I have no better word to describe , the knowledge she had and her tone and great energy made our day! Really appreciated it 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
We were so very fortunate to have JOAO as our guide . He spoke fluent English and engaged with all members of the group. He is very passionate about his town of PORTO and combine this with his knowledge and sense of humour , us old AUSSIES really enjoyed the walk and the talk. A note for all future WALKERS - when he asks you all at the start of the tour GOOD MORNING EVERYONE AND HOW ARE YOU ALL ?? Please reply in UNISON CHORUS - “WE ARE VERY WELL JOAO, HOW ARE YOU???” - lol . GOTCHA , JOAOA - lol - thank you again for a great walk.
We took the free walking tour with Diana and had a great time! Her energy was amazing and we had a lot of fun learning about the city and history. Porto is very hilly but it wasn’t too bad of a walk.
We had a great tour with Fabian. He had a lot of knowledge of the city and obviously passionate about Porto and its history. He was happy to answer questions and was also funny and put people at ease. We particularly enjoyed the train station. It was a good way to see some of the city on our first day and decide where to go next. Thanks to Fabian's recommendations we enjoyed the cat cafe the next day.
