Very indepth, interesting and informative tour. We enjoyed our time here and the tasting afterwards. We mistakenly booked for 4 people as we wanted the two different tastings which was the only mistake we made but we still had an amazing time. Our guide was informative and had a great sense of humor to go along with our good natured ribbing.
The guide was very friendly and informative. Seeing all of the barrels and the cooperage was impressive. Each person can choose their own tasting, we had the premium with chocolate - excellent. This was a fun experience, would definitely recommend Cockburn's.
Great tour, Great wine and Great people
My husband and I did the port wine tour with chocolate. We enjoyed the tour. Our tour guide was excellent, wish I could remember her name. She was very knowledgeable. There were 3 ports and a chocolate to go with each on our table when we arrived at the tasting room. Our guide checked the reservation of everyone in the tour and ushered them to the appropriate table for their tasting.
Has a fantastic time. Beautiful building and an inspiring heritage.
It's about a 90 minute experience. They explain how port is made and the tour ends with a tasting. We chose the experience with chocolate. You get to taste three different types of port and they pair chocolate with each port that they serve.
This was a great tour both educationally but just the visual experience. Unfortunately we missed the Coopers as our tour was on a Saturday but even understanding their work and seeing their work shop was of huge interest! Bea was great, her english was amazing and she was so knowledgeable and personable. I would definitely recommend the Cockburns tour
We really enjoyed this tour, our guide was great, it was so interesting to learn more about the Port wine and just to be in the orgional cellars was an amazing feeling. The premium port tasting paired with chocolate tour well worth our experience, delicious!
Really interesting tour of the warehouse, including all the vats and barrels, and the cooperage, plus a tasting afterwards. ( If you go with someone else, order a different selection of ports so that you can taste each other's.) The guide was very sweet but spoke quickly and I had forgotten my hearing aids and so it was sometimes difficult to catch what he was saying. If you want to see the coopers at work, go earlier in the day than we did (we went at 5pm).
Manuel O. was so great! Very knowledgeable on all things wine. 4 of us did 4 different flights so we were able to share and try 11 different wines. We had gone on a duoro valley 8 HOUR tour the day before and this was so much better in a fraction of the time! Very reasonably priced for each flight, definitely recommend the chocolate.
The guide was a good presenter. Knowledgeable and communicated in a nice manner. It was amazing to hear of the volume of wine and length of time of Cockburn’s. The tastings of port were amazing.
We didn’t know much about Port but we found the tour to be very enjoyable, informative and not too long. It was great learning about how the wine is made, seeing the cellars and even the cooperage room. Of course the tasting at the time end topped everything off, we were actually the last people to leave the tasting room because we really took our time to savour the different varieties and chocolate. Would highly recommend.
Really good tour and excellent guide. A good insight into learning how port is produced and distributed mainly to the uk.
This was my second tour at Cockburn Port Lodge. I enjoyed it so much with my husband in 2022, so I wanted to share it with my mom on this trip. The staff are so nice and pleasant. The port tasting is wonderful - and delicious! The setting is impressive. This is absolutely worth the reasonable price.
Simply brilliant tour of Cockburns. No matter if you like Port or not, an engaging, informative yet fun tour of the Cockburns aging house in Porto. Our tour guide, Daniel, was excellent, with great information, facts and knowledge of the Port and wider company brands (and all the types of Port), but added a fun, humorous side which was fantastic. Culminating in a tasting session (different options available, we booked the tawny port tasting) with a younger port, a 10 year and a 20 year port (we added some pastel de nata at the session), with Daniel explaining the differences and taste sensations. Brilliant couple of hours, recommended. Excellent gift shop at the end too. Be aware it’s a steep walk up to the entrance if you are not used to steep hills!
Visited as a small group from our river cruise ship . Our guide was interesting, engaging, knowledgeable & friendly. Had a good time & happy we chose this trip .
Really enjoyed this experience and now appreciate a glass of port even more! We did the premium tasting experience (the one with the chocolates) and highly recommend.
Great tour, learned a lot, but tried too many samples!!
Very interesting, good information given by tour guide and a great tasting experience. Worth a visit
There are so many options for cellar tours in Gaia, it's quite hard to choose one! We went for Cockburn's for a few reasons - I wasn't drinking and I could opt for a tour without the tasting flight, the tours all had good reviews and the price was around what we wanted to pay. I can't remember our guide's name but she was knowledgeable and friendly. We found the section on how they repair the barrels particularly interesting! (My partner is a woodworker.) Despite not drinking, I still found the tour informative and engaging. Probably due to the fact the tasting session is right at the end so I didn't feel like I had less of an experience or I was missing out.
Lots of options for port tours in Porto. Chose this as it included a chocolate pairing. But confusing when booking as options are not obvious, but basically you all get same tour but tasting at the end is different depending what you book. The house itself was very interesting, especially as we had already dine a port tour in Douro valley area, thought we had seen it all, but honestly it was excellent, with an interesting guide, lots to see and of course a nice we tasting to end it all! Would recommend! Go for the premium with chocolate or better have the cheese board too!
Pedro provided a very informative and interesting tour. We also enjoyed a tasting afterwards accompanied by cheese and charcuterie which was worth the expense. Lastly we got to sit on their terrace and enjoy port and ginger cocktails as recommended by Pedro, a new discovery that we will remember
We loved the tour. Good explanation excellent guide who was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with recommendations . Delicious port and good pairing. Also enjoyed the museum
Booked the 1 hr tour with friends didn’t want to get bored, and we were pleasantly surprised.Violeta was fun , informative and really enjoyed her job. We learnt a lot , it was the right length . Tastings were good , we ordered nuts and crisps to mix. It was a nice small group about 18 . Defo recommend it . Lovely outside terrace area too .
What an experience we had on the 10th June! This was absolutely worth it and would highly recommend it. We had an excellent host, Katerina (I hope I have the spelling correct!). She was clearly so well-informed and told us all we needed to know at every stage responding to every question asked with knowledge, wit and humour. Then, of course the funnest part, the tasting at the end. We did the Tawny flight and it was really special. We are definitely going back to Porto some time and we would definitely do this tour again...with the largest cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia and a working cooperage, it's a special place. Thanks too to Katerina who, when asked where we could go from there for more port over lunch, directed us to The Wine Box on Rua Dos Mercadores. We had some lovely white port and an amazing tasting board for lunch. Special thanks to Katerina for it all!
A stunning property with great heritage. Our guide had a great depth of knowledge; we left understanding a lot more about Port. The tastings were delicious, and our guide spent a lot of time individually walking through the products with each table. When we got into discussion of tasting nuances, he ran upstairs to get get special bottles not on the menu for us to experience. A great afternoon.
The tour was very interesting. The guide was also quite knowledgeable. And engaging. We were able to taste three different types of port. We really enjoyed it and bought one bottle.
Activity was as expected! The tour guide was knowledgeable and quite friendly throughout the entire tour and wine tasting portion of the excursion.
We did the cellar tour and the Sala John Smithes: SUPER PREMIUM TASTING WITH PAIRINGS. I can't, for the life of me, remember (unfortunately) our guide's name, as I'm writing this 3 days after our tour. She was fantastic, was long on very interesting historical information and knew everything there is to know about Port wine and the region, process, etc. She also responded to many questions from our tour group and riffed on social, business and climate related issues. Can't say enough for her delivery and content. The 3 pairings at the end were very nice and well described also by our guide. -Thank you, Cockburns's (and our great guide)!
This place has change my opinion of port .. for the better... amazing... even if the hill to get there is on the steep side
The short uphill walk to Cockburns is worth the climb. Informative history of region. Eduardo was a very informative guide, educating on Port varieties, and several best Port years and brands. Tasting was great. Seeing the cooperage & size of vats was interesting.
Must-do experience while in Porto. Our guide, Pedro, delivered an interesting tour and was happy to answer any questions. We had the port and chocolate pairing and even my partner, who previously didn’t like port, enjoyed the experience and the tasting. We finished with a cocktail in the courtyard which is also recommended.
Very well worth the money, informative with a generous tasting at the end. Only issue was Cockburn's had no record of my Tripadvisor booking, but still honoured it with no fuss.
When booking direct the choice of tasting and food didn't seem to matter, we could decide what we wanted on arrival. Our guide was fast passed throughout the vast cellars whilst ensuring time for questions. We learnt a lot and enjoyed the classic port tasting at the end. There are many port cellars in Gaia but Cockburn's is classy and appears to be head and shoulders above the rest.
Fabulous! Informative and so amazing. Fabio our guide was great and so knowledgeable. Port cellars were incredible and the tasting was something special we will remember forever.
We had a wonderful evening visit at the Cockburn’s lodge. We received an in depth and entertaining tour from Violeta. She was amazing!! The three wines we tasted were unique and delicious.
Incredible location, really well structured tour, kind and helpful staff, great guide (she really made the effort to speak Italian and it was so appreciated given the size of the group), and more importantly, delicious Porto wines. Couldn't ask for more!
Enjoyed the tour and tasting Very informative tour and history Three samples of port were very nice
Via Trip Advisor we booked through Cockburn's website - which seemed a bit confusing. They sent a confirmation email, but took no payment. When we got there it was straightforward. We paid for the basic tour, and you could buy snacks in the tasting room at the end. We had an English speaking guide. He was very knowledgeable. Occasionally hard to hear - he spoke a little fast and some of the areas (and fellow guests) were a bit noisy - but he answered all our questions and gave us plenty of time. Fascinating to see so many barrels, and the barrels being made. We came away feeling we knew a lot about how port is made and what the different types are. And we loved the port.
Excellent tour with knowledgeable and personal guide. Amazing how many barrels they store. Great tasting if 3 ports at the end. Maybe worth organizing a port cocktails tour, as nit aware of how to drink port other than solo.
Short but worthwhile tour and tasting of port wines. The guide was informative and I learned a lot about ports that I did not know. We did the chocolate and premium port tasting and the chocolates were delicious and so was the port. Fun experience! Would recommend.
Really worth while and informative, the only disappointment was that the English speaking tour was at 12 midday and the coopers were at lunch, so we didn't get to see them at work. I would recommend getting an uber there, ours was 7€ from central Porto.
Very nice and informative tour and tasting. Our guide was very good and the port tasting was excellent with additional choices. Filipe was great. Luckily we can buy their port back home!
Mediocre compared to others that we have been to. Some staff are friendly and some are really not. We arrived earlier and could not join the earlier group, were told its full (12 people),also earlier tasting was not possible. The group at our selected time was much larger - 20 people, so unclear why the hostess declined to accept us earlier. The guide was polite, informative, but ar times boring. Enjoyed Graham’s much better (even though it is owned by the same family).
This was my second tour at Cockburn's Port Lodge. My husband and I had such an enjoyable experience in 2022, I wanted to share it with my mom on this trip. Sergio was our guide. He was fantastic. The tour is detailed and not rushed; takes about an hour. Great vibe. The group size was very manageable. We did the classic tasting at the end. The fee is reasonable. They give you options to choose others, as well as snacks. I love Cockburn's and their commitment to tread lightly on the environment. And, the port is excellent!
Excellent tour Knowledgeable guide Good English Delicious vintage port and cheese
My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Cockburns port Lodge. Our guide was very knowledgeable and pleasant. At the end we had chosen the tawny port tasting option which was delicious! The whole experience was great value, we paid €30 each for the tour and the tasting.
Great experience! A lot of interesting information, presented in an informal way. Wonderful cellar and facility
Excellent tour very informative
