The guide is very kind and spends a lot of time with you, and is very happy to answer any questions. A very good tour and so much good information I was so happy to learn. Absolutely necessary.

At the beginning of the tour, we pass by Campo 24 de Agosto where we will see the first location of the first LGBTQIA+ pride march.
In this place we will observe and analyze how time and tourism have changed one of the areas that impacted the LGBTQIA+ community.
After passing through one of the busiest streets, we will reflect a little in the square where the Pride march is currently starting, where we will see the Teófilo Braga Garden and visit a bookshop dedicated to LGBTQIA+ themes. We'll talk about the importance of attending queer businesses.
We will visit a bookshop linked to Diversity and Inclusion Books and the Importance of Queer Business. Where we can talk about some LGBT+ writers and their impact on society and representation in culture.
We will pass through a very busy area of Porto. Where we will have several tourist references. It is also a place with a large concentration of students where we will talk about teaching and social changes linked to diversity and inclusion.
Almost arriving at the last location of our tour, we will pass in front of the Tribunal da Relação do Porto, where I explain some of the most important dates in the Queer History of the city and Country, in front of the statue of justice.
We will finish at the Miradouro das Virtudes, a place known for its diversity, beauty and view over the Douro. Where we will relax a little and make a summary of our experiences and visions. I'll talk a little about my youth in the city and how I saw the Queer movement grow.

If you ever find yourself in Porto looking for something beyond the typical tourist trail, Ricardo's tour is an absolute gem. Ricardo is a gifted storyteller who weaves together his own personal journey as a queer person with the broader, fascinating (and at times heartbreaking) history of LGBTQIA+ life in Portugal. He brings to light stories that are little known but impossible to forget, including the story of Gisberta, which left a deep impression on everyone in our group. It makes history feel alive in a way no museum exhibit ever could. The tour covers Portugal's remarkable transformation: from a country where queer people faced brutal oppression under fascism to a nation today widely considered one of the most LGBTQIA+-friendly in the world. Ricardo guides you through that arc with nuance, honesty, and a refreshing lack of sugarcoating. He is also considerate enough to provide trigger warnings where needed, which shows how much thought and care he puts into the experience. What truly sets this tour apart is Ricardo himself. Beyond being a wonderful guide, he is a committed activist who continues to fight for queer rights today. That dedication shines through in every word he speaks. He creates a welcoming atmosphere where questions are encouraged and curiosity is celebrated. You leave not just better informed, but genuinely inspired. Book it. You won't regret it.
Rico was accommodating, informative, engaging and delightful. There’s both dark and light in our history here.
Our dear Ricardo was an excellent tour guide! My friends and I really enjoyed this tour, which offered an alternative insight on the history of Porto. 10/10 would recommend for anyone looking for an interesting tour, different from the ‘traditional’ city tours.
This was such a nice tour. Ricardo blended his own personal story with the history of Porto, with context that’s often left out. He shared key moments from recent LGBTQI+ history, which added a perspective we wouldn't have gotten on a typical walking tour. He also showed us our new fav evening hangout spot for the rest of our visit ;)
I went solo and had a great tour with Ricardo, and he is a lovely person with a lot of knowledge, whom I felt super safe around! I loved the walk around the town and learned a lot about the political history and his own experiences! It was a good length and I found it a good way to explore the city from a different perspective than the typical! I would certainly recommend it!
It's a great way to learn about the LGBT history of Portugal and the world. Rico was knowledgeable and kind
Ricardo was a fantastic, passionate and knowledgable guide. This was my very first introduction to Porto, and I couldn’t have picked a better start. He blends his personal story with the history of Porto along with key moments in recent LGBTQI+ history - and it’s all wonderful. Run, don’t walk, and get this tour.
The tour guide is very knowledgeable about local LGBTQ history and provided many personal anecdotes because he lived through much of the local history himself. It’s a very relaxed tour. It’s great for solo travelers. It’s also great to get off the beaten path and learn more about the city.
An amazing morning. Ricardo is insightful, sensitive and passionate about how he shares the details of a turbulent past with hopes of a brighter future. He is engaging and knowledgeable, a truly warm human being. I respect the work he is doing and feel honored to have had the opportunity to spend this short amount of time with him. His tour gave me a perspective on Porto that highlighted my visit and added another layer to my own experience and personal journey.
Expect to be entertained, moved, and educated. This tour was masterfully put together and includes some nice little local stops. The passion and care that went into this tour is easily felt as you are taken to some of the most notable places in Queer history in Porto. It's off the beat path so do not expect to the taken to the touristy places. Next time I'm in Porto, I will be doing this tour again.
The tour was amazing. Ricardo is a wonderful and highly knowledgeable tour guide who brought the history, struggle and culture of the LGBTQ+ community in Porto to life. Ricardo is a wonderful soul dedicated to reminding our community that we must always remember the struggles that our community has faced. Highly recommend this tour and highly encourage everyone to meet a wonderful human being!!!
Great tour! Went with my partner and genuinely connected with Ricardo. He showed us parts of Porto that you would not see on the general walking tours. The tour focuses on the underground queer scene and less of the large tourist monuments. If you want to learn about the LGBT history of Porto from someone who grew up here, this is the tour for you
There were two of us on the tour, myself and a close friend, hosted by our guide Ricardo Barros. Ricardo is a gifted, accomplished and knowledgable historian of the LGBT community, past and present in Porto in particular, but also Portugal, the struggles and successes, with a review of the current activities of the community at large, activist organizations and the interface with local government and the Parliament. The tour included visitation of historical points and meaningful places in the LGBT community. Ricardo was a pleasant engaging gentleman, conversant with facts and anecdotes. The afternoon was a magnificent experience which I highly recommend Bob, from Los Angeles
This tour was one of the highlights of my trip to Portugal. Ricardo was an excellent guide and provided a really interesting and thorough overview of the local LGBTQ history from the perspective of a local who has lived through much of the city's recent history. I found this tour to be fascinating, moving, and inspirational - as well as an incredible way to experience Porto from the perspective of a local resident. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in LGBTQ history or any LGBTQ person visiting Porto.
Ricardo is amazing tour guide, he knows so much about Porto and Portugal LGBTQIA+ history and he’s so passionate about it. I really loved this tour, I learned so much and had so much fun. I really recommend it!
Ricardo gave so much good context to the history of the push for LGBTQIA and oppressed persons’ rights in Porto and Portugal in general. A great tour for anyone who wants to hear about the real Porto.
I adored this tour with Ricardo - it was so special to learn about the local queer history of Porto. Ricardo is such a brilliant storyteller and an utter delight to spend the afternoon with. One of Portugal’s significant queer historical events occurred more recently than I realised and Ricardo has fascinating first1”-hand stories to share from that time. Loved, loved, loved.
Ricardo was so incredible with his history of LGBTQ+ in Porto; weaving his lived experiences into the tapestry. Such a kind soul and passionate about his city and community. Highly recommend this tour!
Really enjoyed this tour with Ricardo who’s very knowledgeable and passionate in the DE&I space. Take the time for this tour to support the local LGBTQ+ community.
This is real highlight to gain a fascinating insight into Porto gay history. The guide is amazing, lots of info and great life stories.
I was fortunate enough to have a solo tour with Ricardo, and it was genuinely one of the most illuminating experiences I’ve had while travelling. He’s hugely intelligent, charming, and thoughtful — the kind of guide who elevates a walk into something far more layered and resonant. This tour offers a rare, quietly radical perspective on Porto and Portugal more broadly. It peels back the layers of the city’s beauty to reveal its political, social, and cultural tensions — from Portugal’s uneasy pride in its colonial past to the complexities of LGBTQ+ rights today. Ricardo doesn’t deliver a script; he opens a conversation. One that’s informed, honest, and often gently provocative. A perfect way to see the city without the tourist throngs — and to see through the surface into the deeper story. As I sat writing this review, I overheard a more commercial tour guide describing the history of the Antiga Cadeia da Relação. The contrast in depth, nuance, and human connection between that and Ricardo’s tour was stark — and reinforced just how rare and valuable his approach is. Worth every penny and more.
Ricardo provided a highly personalized overview of LGBT history in Porto along with a wealth of cultural context. This tour was a highlight of our Porto visit.
Ricardo is an incredible person, his knowledge and personality really shines. We walked to unknown land marks around Porto, and even had time to sit for coffee and sodas for a rest. I truly recommend.
Ricardo provided a comprehensive look at the struggles and accomplishments of the LGBT community. Historical context as well as personal insight enriched the experience. Ricardo does an excellent job of tailoring his presentation to his audience. His engaging and personable enthusiasm makes the tour more enjoyable.
Learning, remembering, and telling the history of the LGBTQIA+ community is in many ways more important now than ever. When our history is erased, we are erased. Ricardo does an outstanding job of connecting and relating the history of the LGBTQIA+ people of Porto and the communities long struggles as well as their celebrations, loves, and joys. If you come to Porto, do this tour.
A tour with a personal story. Passionate, knowledgeable and personable guide - thank you for the insight and the lens on Porto which I'd otherwise have not seen.
It was a great experience. If you want to have a not so touristy experience that shows you a different side of Porto we really recommend this tour. Ricardo is a true activist and a very inspiring guide who answered all our questions. ❤️
I recently went on an LGBT tour in Porto with Ricardo, and it was an unforgettable experience. Ricardo was incredibly open, sharing intimate stories from his own life, which made the tour feel personal and authentic. His openness created a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, and his knowledge of the city’s LGBTQIA+ history and culture was impressive. Ricardo's passion for both Porto and the LGBTQIA+ community truly shone through, making this tour not just informative but also deeply meaningful. Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to explore Porto through a unique and heartfelt lens.
What a pleasure it was to meet Ricardo and learn about Porto’s LGBT+ history - some of which is quite surprising and I’m still thinking about it the next day. He is a wonderful guide and is very knowledgeable and thoughtful - when I arrived I told him I was a bit fatigued due to a disability and he very kindly reduced the amount of walking involved and we proceeded a bit slower. Also he went ahead with the tour despite me being the only booking that day which is so nice (I’m sure he could have cancelled). Thank you Ricardo!
Amazing Tour! Very inspirational and moving. Ricardo is a very knowledgeable individual who has LGBT rights in his heart! A true activist! He shared so many moving stories about Porto’s LGBT history and explained how Porto pride came about! A tour that should not be missed if you want to educate yourself on LGBT issues and issues of inclusion and diversity - in a fun walk around Porto x
The tour was amazing! Ricardo was very knowledgable about the queer history of Porto! He shared many moving stories behind the LGBT history of Porto, LGBT rights and Porto Profe ! Very interesting person and a true activist! Very inspiring! he also runs the tour although i was the only person! Totally recommend the tour to any LGBT people or allies … or people who want to educate themselves in LGBT issues, rights and history!
Ricardo's tour was a wonderfully unique experience. It was a treat learning about Porto's gay history through eyes of a local with an intriguing life-story. We visited important landmarks that I would not have discovered on my own. It was also a great way to get oriented to the city on my first morning here. He was friendly, informative, and a pleasure to walk with. Highly recommended!
Great job Ricardo ! We enjoyed our time together and learned a lot! Thank you so much. Glenn and Michael
Ricardo is an excellent tour guide and an awesome person - a real local who knows his city and shows it to you with a modern perspective. So informative about the history of LGBT+ people in Porto, as well as interesting facts about the city (including some really cool historical stuff that other walking tours don't know or didn't discuss!). I highly recommend this to everyone.
The perspective of the guide. The history of LGBTQIA in Porto is not very apparent. But with Ricardo's explanations and stories., it really comes to life. I would recommend this tour for everyone who is interested in this subject, but especially the youth and the people LGBT people who are interested in moving to Porto.
Ricardo is an absolutely fantastic guide to queerness in porto. We learned about the city and country's LGBTIQ+ history, social and political movements while also getting acquainted with great LGBTIQ+ spots - cafes, nightlife, and culture for our stay. The content was also insightful and inclusive to racial, gender, sexual, and economic diversity in a powerful way. Highly recommend. Go!
Ricardo provided such an informative tour experience working from the foundation of his own life as he grew up in Porto. Each of the stops in the tour was designed to illustrate a significant moment of time in history specific to the evolution (or failures) of acceptance for many of the more diverse members of the Portuguese community. Ricardo's knowledge on this aspect of our society is stellar and his own personal insights as well as his deep level of passion about caring for all persons is continuously evident. We learned so much --- and in some ways, he helped to adjust our own thinking so that we left the tour recalibrated and more energized in caring for all persons. The pacing of the tour was very comfortable and in three hours (which seemed like 15 minutes) we covered a lot of ground as well as many very significant moments in the history of the Portuguese society. This was a superb tour experience and we would highly recommend it when visiting lovely Porto.
Amazing tour with so much intersectional knowledge! I loved the blend of local history, current events, and personal stories. Thank you Ricardo for doing this work!
This is a great opportunity to spend time with someone who really knows things about Porto that not many others (that I have met) have experienced. Ricardo has a great way about him and is open to questions about himself and his city. We really enjoyed meeting him and learning the history of the evolution of human rights in general in Portugal. Much similarities to our country, but also differences. So glad we went. Thanks, Ricardo.
My husband and I had the pleasure to meet Ricardo and shared a wonderful afternoon with him walking through the city of Porto. We learned a lot about the local LGBTQIA+ community, about Porto's queer history and Ricardo's own experience growing up as a gay young man in Porto. The tour exceeded our expectactions. Ricardo is a wonderful, kind, knowledgeable and fun tour guide and soul. We can recommend this tour to anyone who wants to learn more about LGBTQIA+ history, topics and rights. Obrigado , Ricardo :)!
Best walking tour I’ve ever been on! Despite the intense rain, Ricardo gave us a phenomenal tour for just the two of us. He brought us to historical queer landmarks in Porto and other queer-run/focused shops like a queer bookstore. I believe this is really important because queer tourism is often reduced to gay bars, but as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I feel it’s important to support queer communities outside of nightlife when I am traveling. And I feel I was really able to do that during this tour! Ricardo also shared his personal experiences with us, taking us to key places in his life. These personal stories made me feel comfortable on the tour as a gay person. Ricardo even helped us find additional events beyond the tour that we were interested in. I would recommend this tour for anyone looking to explore the queer history of Porto!! It was an amazing tour and Ricardo is an even more amazing tour guide and person!
Ricardo did an excellent job of showing us around Porto and sharing important and meaningful history and context of LGBT history in Port.
This tour was very personal yet insightful making it very intimate and enjoyable. His way of personalizing the city and LGBTQIA history made it very especial. His storytelling was touching and creative.
As an advocate for equality and inclusivity, I recently participated in this LGBTQ tour in the vibrant city of Porto, Portugal. This one-of-a-kind experience not only celebrated diversity but also provided a comprehensive insight into the fascinating origins of the LGBTQ march in Porto. From start to finish, the tour exceeded my expectations, leaving me with a deeper appreciation for the struggles, triumphs, and rich history of the local LGBTQ community. Our guide, passionate and knowledgeable, welcomed us with open arms and a warm smile. Their genuine enthusiasm for sharing the history of Porto's LGBTQ community was apparent from the very beginning. Throughout the tour, they fostered an atmosphere of acceptance, making everyone feel comfortable and included.
Best tour I've ever done! Ricardo is an amazing and very kind person. He has an enormous knowledge about the lgbtqia+ community in all its aspects. The experience gets even more enriching and interesting when he tells us about his own experience as a member of the lgbt community in Porto since he grew up until today. It's a must! Thank you especially, Ricardo :)
This three hour tour was awesome. I did it on a sunny sunday morning, was intense and informative, our guide has a profound love and passion for his city and people, he is very open minded, enthusiastic and caring, his energy was so contagious, I recommend deeply.
Amazing tour with Ricardo! He created an opening just for me when I messaged him to say that I'd be leaving the city before the next available date. I learned a lot about the LGBTQIA+ scene in Porto and we both shared our personal stories which made the experience even better. I strongly recommend this tour for anyone looking to get off the beaten path in Porto.
It’s a very fun experience to do a city tour in Porto from a LGBT perspective! We definitely loved this tour! Very informative and interesting, walking in Porto is very cute! Ricardo is very friendly and nice to talk to! Definitely recommend this tour!
I really enjoyed this tour! This was an informative, profound and inspiring experience about the LGBT+ community and the history of the city of Porto. The tour guide, Ricardo, was very knowledgeable and passionate about history and the LGBT+ movement and he also shared his own experience, making us see and think about things from different perspectives! I highly recommend this tour to everyone, to learn some of the city's important history and a way to see and learn more about the LGBT+ movement.
