Your expert guide will collect you at your accommodation and will drive you from Porto to the Fátima, on of the most famous and important sites in Portugal due to the events known as the Apparitions of Fátima, that took place there in 1917.
It's time to discover Fátima. With its origins deep in history, it was during the Arabian occupation that this settlement developed and was named. According to legend, during the Christian Reconquest, the Templar knight Gonçalo Hermingues, also known as Bringer-of-Moors, fell in love with Fátima, a Moor captured in the course of an ambush. Reciprocating the love, the young woman converted to Christianity and adopted the name Oureana. In the sixteenth century, the settlement became a parish in the collegiate church of Ourém within the Diocese of Leiria. Its subsequent development dates from the events known as the Apparitions of Fátima, in the early part of the twentieth century. It has become one of the key centers for the Cult of the Virgin Mary in Portugal and has been recognised world-wide by the Catholic Church.
One of the largest Marian centres in the world. This Marian centre of pilgrimage evokes the apparitions of Our Lady to the three little shepherds Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta, which took place in 1917 and were recognized in 1930. The spot was a rural property called Cova da Iria, and it belonged to the parents of Lucia, who donated it to the Shrine. It was here that five of the six apparitions took place
The Chapel, in the heart of the current Fátima Sanctuary, was built by local people in 1919 in response to the request made by Our Lady during one of the apparitions.
The three shepherd children to whom Our Lady appeared - Lúcia and her cousins, Francisco and Jacinta - were born in the small village of Aljustrel, around 2 kms from the sanctuary of Fátima.
Our last stop will be Coimbra, a city known for its academic life, a city that gives life to those who lost it. You will have the opportunity to get to know a little bit of academic life but also of the general culture that surrounds the university. Take advantage of this moment to stroll through the picturesque streets of this magical city.
We enjoyed visiting Fatima. We had enough time to enjoy each stop. Luckily we were dropped off by entrance of Fatima rather than the parking lot that was far. Our driver, Emmanuel was great. Full of information during the trip.

Excellent experience from the start. Living tours deliver a super package, with easy check in, warm welcome by our guide Aldrin and safely driven throughout by Maykel. The tour itself is wonderfully described by our guide Aldrin with excellent communication in both Spanish and English. Fatima was a beautiful location with obviously the religious aspects of our experience. Coimbra was beautiful with a short stroll or a beer in the old city and university. This is a great excursion from Porto as not too long a day and to 2 contrasting destinations. Coimbre full of Portuguese charm and history and focussed on the university and Fatima, spiritual and moving. We had about 2 hours in Coimbre and about 3 to 3 1/2 in Fatima. Guide, Francisco was excellent and kept us entertained on both legs of the journey with Portuguese history and local anecdotes or an eclectic playlist. We also had coffee and comfort breaks which were appreciated.
Great day. But I highly recommend bringing a snack with you. We travelled as a group of 8 with a very knowledgeable tour guide. It was lots of fun. We met at 7:30 in the morning and got back around 6 PM. A very full day. Half of the people we’re dozing on the way home - We were so tired!

It's a long driving time and not enough viewing in both locales. Mostly it is a very fast walking tour with no guided entry to any of the important things to see. That having been said our tour driver/guide, Manuel, was very good. He was friendly and well informed. He would have been great carrying out guided touring of important places in both locations. He was a very good driver.

We had a great experience with our Tour Expert Filipe. He was very knowledgeable and courteous. We were in a group of less than 8 people which was excellent as opposed to being in a big bus. The weather was good which made the stops along the coast even better with no fog. I recommend this tour if your visiting the area.
We wanted to visit Fatima and went in a group of 8 with Living Tours. Orlando told us what to expect and was informative and amusing. He deftly handled the tour in Spanish and English and patiently handled the traffic in Combria. We were surprised by how large the pilgrimage site was, with basilica, church and grounds to accommodate hundreds for Mass. Orlando had warned us not to expect a historical town, rather it’s a modern town built around what used to be a village. We were happy he was our tour guide and would be very happy to go on another tour with him next time we’d be back in Porto.
We were mainly interested in going to Fatima. Could have easily skipped the morning stop in Coimbra. Fatima experience was great. We were able to attend a mass with all the free time there. Was a long day.
We booked this tour months before we were coming to Porto. About 3 weeks before the tour, we were informed by the tour company that it was a special day in Fatima with the blessing of the helmets and if time permitted we could go the day before or the day after so as to have a less crowded experience. Fortunately we had some flexibility so we changed the day. We were so thankful, because it was not busy at all. Our guide Carlos Chaves did a great job and we had a great time. Would highly recommend.

Phillip was wonderful. The drive was lovely and the day went by fast. The university stop was not so interesting but the town around the university was nice and shopping was good .

Good Visit to Fatima and the houses of the three shepherd children. Museum at Fatima if you are interested, rush to it first and book a slot, if you are lucky u cud do a visit before your tour leaves.
I really enjoyed this day tour to Fatima and Coimbra. Coimbra with the unique university buildings and then Fatima with the beautiful basilicas and surrounding buildings. The whole place is such a wonderful display of love to Mary. Ze was our guide and he was very informative, pleasant and kept the group informed of the days itinerary. Thank you so much Ze.
