Douro Valley Tour: Wine Tasting River Cruise And Lunch From Porto

I had a wonderful day trip to Douro with Go Travel Everywhere! Our guide Paulo was amazing - so funny, kind, welcoming and knowledgeable. The tour was about 8 hours total. I love that it didn’t feel rushed - you only visit one tasting room and it feels very special, not a massive vineyard full of tourists. The historic home of the winery is gorgeous and the wines and port were great. I loved the other stops at Amarante, the viewport in the valley, and the boat ride. It was a beautiful day and they were so understanding and welcoming of my service dog which I really appreciated. Had an incredible day thanks to Paulo - definitely recommend!

The tour guide spoke multiple languages. I'm only giving this a 4-star because I was expecting at least 2 winery visits as all the other options had at least 2-3 winery on the itinerary, otherwise had a great time

Such a beautiful tour of the Douro Valley. Nelson, our tour guide did a great job of immersing us in the culture. Providing great knowledge of the history of Porto and its wine. 10/10 definitely recommend taking advantage of this tour during your visit to Porto.

Pedro was our wonderful tour guide. We loved the stop at Amarante to see the town and beautiful church. Enjoyed Pedro’s insights of the church and time to wander by ourselves. Enjoyed the cruise on the river. Lunch was spectacular at a beautiful historic winery. Thankyou Pedro for your lovely tour and excellent driving.

Hugo was 100% the perfect guide friendly funny knowledgeable engaging! He made the countryside come alive with history and culture we loved the entire day! The winery and lunch was just perfect Marissa made our into to port the best! Highly recommend

Great tour of the Douro Valley with Miko from Douro First Tours Our tour guide was Miko and he was exceptional! Small group just 4 of us in a private van. Went to see beautiful views of the Douro valley, a wine tasting, a smooth boat ride with sandwiches and more wine and a lovely delicious Portugal lunch! A full day of activities with the nicest most passionate guide which made the entire experience very memorable! Highly recommend!!!

This is a small group which makes it a very private tour! We had only one other couple with us. We got along wonderfully and truly enjoyed. Our guide Nelson was terrific and very knowledgeable. He took us to his personal favorite scenic viewing spots and shared the local charm that we otherwise would never have! The scenic drive throughout the Douro Valley was unforgettable! The lunch at the vineyard along with port tasting after was ideal.

What a great trip. I was worried it would be too long a day but it flew by and was very relaxing as we were dropped off and picked up by Paulo in his very nice air conditioned vehicle. Unfortunately we got stuck in traffic on the motorway due to roadworks but Paulo switched the itinerary to accommodate and all worked well. Paulo spoke good English and was very informative on the way to the beautiful Douro Valley. The boat trip was great, the winery and lunch fabulous. The stop off in Amarante village could have done to be a bit longer as we didn't have time to go in the church due to the coffee shop being very busy! I think this part of the trip needs to be a full hour. But otherwise we absolutely loved it and Paulo is a great guide.

Very enjoyable full day, great guide! Very knowledge, went out of his way to. He showed and explained history to us, was patient and kind. Highly recommend him. We had a very enjoyable day with him.

Nelson was absolutely fantastic in all ways. He was super professional and friendly, had lots of interesting information, answered all our questions with interest and substance, was very accommodating and, as a bonus, was an excellent driver. We recommend him highly. We can’t thank him enough. The one thing that was not great was the car but that was not his fault at all as it belongs to the provider. It was very old, not very clean, quite rickety and thus noisy inside and, not least, it spewed fumes out the back.

We are a retired couple and we enjoyed the easy pace in which we were able to see all attractions. Our guide was informative, helpful ( as another tourist had lost his backpack & our guide was able to find it for him ) so interesting

Great day out along the beautiful Douro river. Long drive to get there but well worth it. Guide was great and didn’t throw too much info at us but gave us enough to make sure we got a great feel for the place.

Our guide Nelson was fantastic; Full of information recommendations and a few surprises. The region is beautiful with culture, outstanding wines, and welcoming people. This is a don’t miss tour if you are in Porto.

Nelson was our driver and he did an excellent job. He was very communicative and well prepared. The start was amazing, so was the wine tasting . Our group did not realize it was just one winery we were going to visit , that was a misunderstanding on our side as well as the other members of the group. The river tour was a bit of a touristic event. Just 1 hour up and down. Lunch was in a local restaurant. Not super special but oké . Driving back for 2 hours makes the whole tour easily lasting 8 to 9 hours. The wines were excellent and we ordered to send home. I would recommend the organization to have water on board.

We really enjoyed our day, and our guide. Very nice vans, small group. We thought it was a really good overview and a good value for a full day trip.

Look to do and see during the tour. Guide at the winery was very friendly and funny. Food was good as well. A relaxing cruise on the Douro to complete the day made it perfect. Would recommend this tour for the price.

Pedro was our tour guide and he went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. He even took the time to show us a cool coffee shop near one of the attractions. The private wine tour was amazing, small group, not crowded, and absolutely perfect. Lunch was great too. It’s a full-day experience, and you really get your money’s worth!

The entire experience was outstanding from beginning to end. The tour guide was amazing.. You really went out of his way to make sure everything was special experience. It felt like a private tour with just eight people on the van. The Small winery went to was very authentic and much better than going to a winery. We had an opportunity to taste were wonderful. The bonus was the small turtle. We went to the beginning of the tour. Open market and location was a treat. One of the best courses I've ever taken.

Excellent day trip with our knowledgeable guide Nelson and driver Sergio who was extremely enthusiastic and friendly. The tour of the vineyard was very informative and interesting. We really enjoyed our day.

Our driver Paolo was great, very knowledgeable and chatty. Beautiful views of the Duoro valley and its terraces. Guy doing wine tasting spoke too quickly and wasn't that friendly when I asked him questions. Pretty poor that that they didn't provide any drinks for my 17 year old, whilst the adults tasted the wine, and only provided enough initial 'snacks'/palate cleansers for the adults only. Later on, the snacks/palate cleansers weren't portioned so that was OK. Wines were good though. Lunch was great - plenty of tasty food (chicken, fish, pork, 2 types of rice, salad and chips) and wine. Boat trip was nice but audio was inaudible and switched between languages too frequently so by the time you realised it was English, it'd already switched back to Portguese. Some of our party didn't even know there was any audio, it was that quiet. Lucky enough to spot a large boat exiting the lock at one of the dams.

Nelson was THE BEST tour guide EVER!! Our 10 hour tour was super informative, fun and was the best part of our weeklong trip to Portugal. The Douro Valley was enchanting and the wines were sublime. Lunch was full of variety and excellent. It rained and Nelson gave me the coat off his own back. This tour is highly recommended. Bravo!!

My husband and I took the tour of Duoro Valley by bus with wine and port tasting, lunch and a river cruise. Nelson was our driver and tour guide. Nelson was knowledgeable and gave great historical and cultural insights, but also offered us down time to explore. He is an excellent guide. We visited some small, charming and picturesque towns on the way to the winery. The wine and port tasting was done at one winery and all the wines and ports were delightful. The lunch was fun at a local eatery with a wide variety of food. The river cruise wasn’t special but it was also a slightly rainy day. Overall we highly recommend the tour.

We really enjoyed this trip! Nelson was a great tour guide! He gave us a lot of information about the areas and he is very knowledgeable about port wine. Had a nice lunch at a small, family owned/operated vineyard/winery. We took the river boat cruise and the train ride in the Douro region - very nice view of some of the area and the vineyards on the hillside terraces. Had a nice stop in Amarante and a surprise visit in the village, as well as seeing the historic church. Very nice tour! Would highly recommend Go Travel and Nelson as a tour guide!

Our first encounter with the great people of Go Travel Everywhere was through another booking we had made. Being the only guests we were given The full treatment. While talking we mentioned that we would like to book this tour. Our guide/driver Paohlo told us that hey also organize such tours. We did not hesitate long and booked this memorable tour. Everything, from pick up to return trip was perfect. All the information provided by Paohlo, the people we met, the views, the wine, the river and everything in between was just perfect. Best day of a 5-days stay in Porto. We were lucky to have an unexpected “private tour”, being the only couple to have booked on that day. Nelson our driver/guide was amazing from the start. He informed us in advance of the places we were going to and providing background/history on the places. Hearing and seeing it are 2 different experiences. A must-do! The wines, the foods, the places, the views… it is a journey for all your senses. Loved it and highly recommend. Many thanks from Jim & Aura, Mauritius.

Even though the weather was rainy, we had a great time. Hugo our tour guide was so knowledgeable and accommodating, and funny. We couldn’t take the boat due to the winds but Hugo found another good option - we appreciated that very much. The lunch was amazing! As was the wine and olive oil experience.

The tour with Nelson our guide was excellent. Nelson made our trip so special. His knowledge of the area and how the grapes for the wine and port are grown and the history of the region was exceptional. This tour exceeded our expectations. Nelson our tour guide communicated with us prior so that we had his contact number. The drive was comfortable and he provided commentary, took us to some beautiful lookouts and interesting stops. The winery tour was excellent. We were a group of eight and we all enjoyed the tour and would recommend this experience.

All the stops were good; the valley is beautiful! Nice lunch. Good fellow travelers. Our guide didn’t seem too engaged with our group.

The guide failed to set clear expectations at each stop. He also didn’t share any information on the boat ride.

The wineries were so interesting to walk through, and the wine/lunch was delicious. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone wanting to get out of the city for a day and experience the Douro Valley.

Nelson our guide was respectful, knowledgeable and attentive. He heard me say I loved Figs, so he went out of his way and bout all of us a pack to enjoy. Our boat tour of the Douro river was nice. We ended up visiting 2 wineries even though it was initially supposed to be 1. Our tour had to be rescheduled and we were given notice in advance and thankfully were able to still attend. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Porto.

This tour guide was not responsive, did not communicate with Viator about pick up location and times of tour. Was told it was impossible to have us back by the time our ship departed and refused a refund. Do not recommend this excursion

The trip was fantastic! We cruised around in a comfy van while Paulo shared some cool stories about the cities, wines, and the Douro River Valley. We had a coffee break, explored some stunning spots, snapped a bunch of photos, enjoyed an amazing lunch, and wrapped it all up with a boat ride in Régua. We had a blast and totally recommend it! We’ve got a tip for the summer: make sure to wear comfortable clothes, sunscreen, and bring along caps or hats. Don’t forget to pack water, because it gets really hot and sunny in the Douro Valley during the summer.

Excellent service, can highly recommend. We had Pedro for a guide, who was chatty, funny and knew all the great places. It seemed like he knew people across the entire trip resulting in a friendly atmosphere everywhere we went. The trip consisited of a stop in Amarente, wine tasting in the valley, lunch with all the locals and finally a boat trip. Great way to spend the day. And if you have the opportunity, ask for Pedro as your guide!
