Douro Valley Small-group Tour: Two Winery, Lunch & Boat Trip

We travel a lot around world and have experienced the entire spectrum of tour quality. We certainly picked a winner and had the most amazing tour at Douro Valley. We picked the full day tour and it 100% worth the time and the value for the money was perfect. Our guide and driver - Joao Jesus - was outstanding and he answered every question we asked (we tend to ask a lot of questions). He knows the geography, the culture, and the history of the region extremelly well. If you are looking for close and personal experience - this company does it best. Also great logistical communication and coordination. Muito Obrigado Joao and Meridian. We will do more tours with your company for sure.

I had the best time on my tour of the Douro Valley thanks to my tour guide, João! He met us in our hotel lobby before we took off on our tour. We got to travel through the beautiful Douro Valley, explore two different wineries, try different kinds of port wines, eat a delicious lunch, learn about the process of making olive oil, and we got to try some, too. It was such a wonderful day, I highly recommend booking João for this tour!

We had a full day tour of the Duoro Wine Valley with our guide, Joao, who made the day simply amazing in every way! We were picked up at our hotel and shown beautiful small towns on our way to our Port tasting, river cruise and olive oil tasting. Ricardo was our tour guide for our Douro Valley trip and was truly the best!!!!!!!! He took his time explaining the rich history of everything from Porto to Douro throughout our car rides and stops. Alex was an excellent guide. Throughout the 10 hr. day his informative dialogue kept us engaged on the history and delights of the area. He manoeuvred tight spots with his super driving skills and placed us easily in reach of every experience. The wineries chosen gave a balanced appreciation of the differing techniques old and new. The taste of the olive, honey and almond industry was a delightful surprise. Thank you Alex and the 2 lovely ladies from the US who made this a very memorable day. My wife and I had a fantastic time on the tour. Our driver and guide Alex was wonderful. He was knowledgeable and engaging and really added to the overall experience. The Duoro Valley is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. The wineries were beautiful and interesting, the river cruise was spectacular. The Mercedes van was comfortable, and it was just an overall great experience. Can’t say enough about Alex.

Alex our guide was amazing, full of wonderful knowledge about Portugal, its history and its agriculture. He is very knowledgeable about the wine and the Douro Valley in general. The Boat tour was the highlight, just amazing views on a beautiful day! An absolutely fabulous way to end our 15-day adventure in Portugal!

Alfonso was a wonderful tour guide. He was personable and pleasant and had a family connection to the duoro valley. The boat ride was amazing. The entire area is breathtakingly beautiful. It was nice to be in a small group for the day long tour.

Our tour guide Alex did a phenomenal job leading our group. 2 of us spoke English and the other 2 spoke Portuguese. Alex did a great job leading the tour speaking both languages and at the end of the tour we were great friends with the other couple. He was very knowledgeable and knew the area very well. It was the best tour we have been on. It was very worth it and a great experience. Highly recommend.

Over the past 3 months, I’ve taken tons of excursions between Portugal, Spain, France & Italy. I would rank this tour to Douro Valley in the top 3, as I was very impressed with my overall experience. In terms of tour guides, I would rank Joăo as number 1. He exhibited expert level knowledge of all things Portugal, super friendly and the timing execution of all stops was perfection. Im actually shocked by how much the whole tour included; a stop in Amarante (which was the only tour I saw to include this), a generous lunch in Pinhão, a river cruise, olive oil tasting and 2 winery visits. I’m thrilled that I chose this company, it could not have been a better experience.

We took a tour with João Jesus and it was incredible! His driving was excellent and smooth so I felt safe and comfortable the entire way. What had a great trip with Ricardo. He was friendly, informative and ensured our day ran smoothly. Very full day but some great experiences. Port/wine tasting plus views from the hill top were real highlights. Would highly recommend Ricardo and this trip to get a terrific insight into this beautiful wine region.

You can tell that Alex knows everyone along the way, and seems to be loved by all! From the minute, João picked us up at 8 AM until the time he dropped us off at 6 PM we always felt at home! Our entire group had an amazing fun filled day! We laughed, learned the history of Portugal and shared an authentic Portuguese feast! João never left our side making sure everything and everyone was accommodated. We had such a pleasant day. The entire group spent time together that evening at the resort! After spending seven days in Portugal, I must admit my best eight hours was the tour João led! Highly Recommended!

What a great trip! 1 day tour to Douro Valley starting with a riverwalk and visit to Amarante, two wine testing (porto in a famous winery and wines in a little one), lunch in a little portuguese restaurant (crowded with locals - great spot!) and 1 hour cruise on Douro with marvelous scenic views. This was such a highlight of my trip to Porto. A pleasant surprise to discover the tour was just myself, another lovely couple and our amazing guide João. The entire day was lovely. João really made it a special experience, he never made us feel rushed or pressured. He is very knowledgeable on history, agriculture, food, it felt like we could talk about any subject. Lots of laughs were had and I was sad when the tour came to an end.

When we arrived, we saw huge tour buses with 50–100 people and were immediately so thankful we had chosen a small group. Our group ended up being just the two of us (though they accommodate up to 8), which made the experience even more personal and enjoyable. My husband and I had a wonderful experience on this tour. Our guide Chris was very polite, knowledgeable, and very generous. The wineries we visited were. Dry interesting and the tours were well organized. We had an unexpected surprise when we visited the local butcher - it was quite entertaining. Overall, a very nice day.

The Douro Valley was everything I hoped it would be and more! Our trip to Douro Valley was amazing! Joao was an incredible tour guide, ensuring not only that we had an enjoyable and memorable experience, but also ensuring that we understood both the charm and the history of all we were seeing. The wine and port tastings were lovely, and the lunch was delicious (and very accommodating to our dietary needs and restrictions). I had the best experience with this Duoro Valley tour! It exceeded every expectation I could have had. The Duoro valley and boat tour are so beautiful. The wine was delicious. My tour guide Alex was so kind and knowledgeable and the lunch was a perfect touch! I cannot recommend this tour enough.

Wonderful day with a variety of activities. Our guide made it all the more exceptional. The scenery is incredible, vineyards were both good choices, giving a variety. Enjoyed the boat tour. Lunch stop added to the fun of the day, good local fare.

Joao was such a wonderful and knowledgeable guide and driver. He knew almost as much as the vineyard workers did at Croft about the wine and history, found a very interesting stop on the way to the valley (Amarante), had a great lunch spot picked out for us, and a nice local wine/honey/olive oil purveyor for our other stop. Joao even showed us a couple local places we discussed on the way to the valley and dropped us newr the train station instead of our hotel at our request so we could see more of town.
