I had a great time seeing the Douro valley during fall and visiting a couple interesting and scenic wineries, but the highlight of the trip was Luis, who made the day amazing. I would go anywhere with him! Food was great, and the van was comfortable. Small group made it feel more like a day with friends than a tour.

Itinerary
Start the tour at your hotel or accommodation in Porto Downtown, at 8:00 AM. We will then travel towards the Douro Valley. Note: your address needs to be provided at booking or a few days before the tour takes place or a meeting point will be set. - PICK-UP IS EXCLUSIVE TO THE PORTO DOWNTOWN AREA. We DO NOT offer pick-up from Vila Nova de Gaia, Matosinhos, the Porto coastal area, or other locations outside the city center.
Whenever possible we stop at the city of Peso da Régua, an historical city of the Douro Valley associated with the commerce of wine. Here we provide our guests a brief explanation about the city and allow some free time for a coffee and pictures.
Quinta do Tedo is one of several wineries that we can visit on our tour. In this visit you will learn about the wine-making process of Quinta do Tedo with a local guide. It includes a guided wine tasting session where you will be explained about the different wines to be tasted. NOTE: wineries or order of wineries visited may differ depending on their availability NOTE 2: Visits at the wineries and river cruises are not fully private and open to external participants.
In the heart of the Douro Valley you will have the chance to visit Pinhão. In the past Pinhão used to be an important place for commerce and transport of the wine from Douro to Porto. The wine was first commercialized and next shipped in the traditional Rabelo boat to remain aging in Vila Nova de Gaia, just across the river in Porto. In the village of Pinhão we stop for a 1h river cruise as well as we have lunch at a traditional local restaurant. NOTE: Visits at the wineries and river cruises are not fully private and open to external participants.
Most of the tour has the Douro river as the scenic scenary through the day. The wineries that are visited offer incredible views to the river.
Quinta do Beijo is the second winery of several wineries that we can visit on our tour. This is a small local winery with very good wines that can not be bought in the city. The visit is usually done by the owner of the property himself while he tells you more about the production and the flavors of its wines. NOTE: wineries or order of wineries visited may differ depending on their availability NOTE 2:Visits at the wineries and river cruises are not fully private and open to external participants.
We will drive back to Porto from Douro Valley and return close to 6:00 PM (depending on traffic), where our guide will leave you at your selected drop off point.

It is a wonderful full day. The places we visited were really veautifil, great food and views. Our guide Joana, was excellent!
Great day out. Ivo was an enthusiastic and fun guide. Pick up point was straightforward to find. Small van with 8 guests was a nice size group. Loved our wine tastings, especially the 1st one at Vieira de Sousa. Lunch was tasty. River cruise was pleasant. We were lucky the weather was gorgeous and the autumn colours spectacular!
We had an amazing day full of traditional Porto food, some of the most exquisite Porto wines, lots of breathtaking scenery and lots of laughter. Our guide Luis ensured we had a very entertaining road trip and kept us having a laugh all the time. The experience is very well balanced, not focusing on just wine or boat trip but appropriately allocating time for each. Would 100% recommend to anyone visiting Porto.
Catarina (guide) and Joao (driver) were excellent. We visited a cooperative and small winery and sampled excellent port wines. Lunch was at a local restaurant; good food and Douro wines, delicious dessert. The boat ride was relaxing and scenic; another sampling of port wines on-board. The tour was a sampling, mixed with sufficient food and information; it was not a party trip, rather an nice introduction to enjoying port and Douro Valley wines.#meow
What a wonderful day in the Douro valley. It was beautiful! The boat tour and wine tastings were great. We thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend this tour.
A great day! Easy pickup, a comfortable and quiet vehicle, and our guide Luis was expert, helpful, safe, supportive, funny, and interested in everyone. The scenery was spectacular and even the little villages and towns we drove through were interesting for foreigners. The small group was perfect- and by the end of the day it felt like we had made 3 new friends! Most important, the wines and port! Two very different wineries, and lots of education about the region's wine-growing conditions, grapes, and how wine and port are produced. We tasted a variety of whites, reds, and a rose. And ports and a surprise extra. We were able to buy bottles of our favorites, and had the option of shipping these home. The whole day was relaxing, fun, and very worthwhile. Thanks again Luis!
Happy with the tour, would recommend. I don't know about the wines, because it's not my thing, but I went for the views and they were great. Lunch was very good too. Our tour guide Cheila made it all work very smoothly and helped make it a memorable experience for everyone. So book this tour, and ask for Cheila as your guide!
We were so happy we decided to take this day trip. We enjoyed all the stops, the scenery was fantastic, the colors were changing in the valley. We had a fun family style lunch with local foods and wine. I would recommend to anyone. Joana was a great tour guide, very informative of the area.
If you are looking for a tour with some great views of the Douro Valley and the opportunity to try a lot of great wines, this one is for you. The meeting directions were easy to find but we had a bit of trouble finding our group as there were a few other tours leaving from the same location. I do like that you are provided with the vehicle description and license plate to look for by WhatsApp the day before. Once we found our van, we checked in and were off. Our guide was Joao who made sure we got everything that we expected from this tour. We did a stop in Amarante on our way to the Douro Valley and given some free time to get some breakfast. We had 20 minutes here which went fast given the walk to the shops and the lines from other groups. We ended up grabbing something to go and eating on the bus so that we could make the bus meet up time. The winery stops were all good. I've done a few of these and I always enjoy seeing the behind-the-scenes operations. We had a good lunch with more wine and also got to stop at viewpoint to get some good pics of the Douro Valley on the way to our next stop. Then we were off for the river cruise for a fun cruise with more great views. The cruise was about an hour long and we got to have more wine on the boat. Our last stop was at another winery where we got to taste more wines including some great port wines. The bus ride back to Porto was very relaxed and quiet given all of the wine we had during the day! This is the tour to do if you love good wine and great views!
What a fantastic day! Caterina our guide and Joao our driver, were great partners on our event. Caterina provided lots of historical references to enhance our experience. The co-op, restaurant, cruise and port wine tasting were all excellent. Antonio, our guide at the co-op, provided lots of detail about how the wines are processed, and gave us a great tasting experience as well. Great music to keep us in high spirits on the drive back. It was a great excursion, wonderful way to spend a day in the Duoro.
Fantastic experience from start to finish, Cheila was very knowledgeable and friendly throughout the whole trip and nothing was too much trouble for her. The mini bus was very comfortable and we felt safe throughout the whole journey with our driver Ze. The day went so quickly and we enjoyed the vineyard experience and the boat trip. What made it more special was the delicious lunch that was provided, overall a great day to remember!
An experience worth every penny! The tour was exceptionally well organized, with breathtaking scenery, wonderful wineries, and delicious food. Visiting Vieira de Sousa and Quinta do Beijo for wine tastings was definitely a highlight. Each stop offered a unique experience and a wonderful opportunity to discover the region’s wine culture. Everything was thoughtfully planned, making this a truly memorable day in the beautiful Douro Valley. Highly recommended! Daina - Cuba/Miami
Some confusion over hotel pickup which was resolved Tour guide Nuno Mendes was very good and friendly Good
The tour was fantastic. We went on the small group tour and it was a wonderful day. Our tour guide was Cheila who gave great information about the city and the wine region as we traveled through our day. We stopped in Amarante for coffee and pastries on the way out. The first vineyard, Casa Santa Eufemia was wonderful. It has been in the family for many generations. This is where we had lunch which was a wonderful meal starting with ham and cheese and bread with olive oil from the vineyard, followed by a meal of pork, potatoes and cabbage which was delicious! The boat ride was peaceful and the we finished at a lovely organic winery called Quita Castelares. All around it was a great day in the very beautiful wine area of the Douro Valley!
Booked fora small group tour which in effect was just transport because for the wineries, lunch and boat trip we joined with the other group of 8!! The scenery is fantastic and the autumn colours on the vines made it even more spectacular. The second vineyard was better but completely ripped guests off at the end of the tour by telling us that the wine wasn’t available and the best way to purchase was through themselves!! Found the wine 1/4 of the price on the internet after and whilst I understand everyone needs to make a profit normally cellar door costs are lower. Tuna the driver was good fun and the day was enjoyable.
Our tour guide, Joana, was so warm and friendly and really helped to blend our group. We had such a great day exploring the valley. Every part was great, we especially enjoyed the lunch and the second winery. A fabulous introduction to this lovely region!
Fantastic trip. Joana was fantastic. We had such a great time.
Joana was our guide and she was exceptional! She made the entire tour such a phenomenal experience. This was a full day tour with pickup at 8a and returned around 5pm with an 8 person van. Lunch at the vineyard in the family home was so memorable. Exceeded my expectations.
Pedro was a fabulous tour guide through the Douro River Valley and beyond! He talked the entire time, but in the absolute best way, sharing so much history, interesting stories, great recommendations, and thoughtfully answering all our questions. It was truly a pleasure, and we learned so much along the way. And if that weren’t enough, the views of the Douro Valley were absolutely breathtaking. Pictures simply cannot capture how stunning it really is! We stopped in historic Portuguese towns, enjoyed delicious port and wine tastings, and had a wonderful, authentic lunch. Throughout it all, Pedro kept sharing fascinating little tidbits that made every stop even more special. The roads through the valley can be pretty treacherous, but we felt completely safe and comfortable with Pedro behind the wheel. I cannot recommend this experience enough and would absolutely ask for Pedro by name again and again!
The very best day. Good value. Wines tasty
Our guide Catarina and druver Joao were brilliant. Catarina was fun well.informed and mad e rhe day run smoothly. We had a great lunch and the whole day was great.
This is a great day trip from Porto to the beautiful Duoro valley. It’s great being in a small group and our guide Luis was great.
This was the highlight of our trip to Portugal. The sights were incredible, the wine was fantastic, and the food was delicious. To make it even better, our tour guide Ricardo, was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly.
Went for the douro valley tour with my wife and had the best time of our trip to porto. Catarina ans joao were our guide and driver and the best anyone could ask for. If u want to experience the true portugese culture book with them or dont go at all. She was simply the best guide everrrr. #meow. She took really good care of us considering we were vegetarians and made sure to get us proper lunch despite the menu being chicken and fish. She went out of her way to make my wife feel comfortable in her pregnancy and we loved her. She kept us entertained with portugese songs and jokes throughout the day and there was no dull moment. Would want to visit again with our baby. Love you Catarina.

Luis was a great guide. He and our other 6 tour companions made this day alot of fun. It was a beautiful day seeing and learning about Douro Valley. The wineries we visited were amazing- one was a smaller winemaker and who knew - but they still make wine with their feet. Wow. This was my favorite part of the trip. The river cruise was ok, but i expected something smaller and more fun- no wine was served which we did expect . Many of the reviews indicate that this day includes lots of wine however we just had a couple of sips of a White, Rose and Red. The wine was delicious. The lunch was but not quite the experience we expected. I think the larger group tour may have been a vit more informational. All in all, a must do trip… whether private, semi private ir even larger group.
Beautiful scenery, great tour guide, nice stops, and a delicious lunch. Very pleased with this tour!
A most wonderful day, hitting just the right notes. - Starting off the day in the charming small town of Amarante - Great lunch at a Duoro Valley restaurant with good food and wine pairings - Then to a co-op wine outfit - A calm and fun boat ride on the Duoro River (with more wine) - Ending the day with a trip to a winery owned and run by women with tastings of the three major types of port wine All in all, a great day, wonderfully orchestrated by Katarina and driver João. Highly recommended. Certainly your money's worth, particularly with the amount of wine you can consume throughout the day!
A great experience from start to finish. Our guide, Luis, was top notch! Funny, knowlegable and a terrific guide, his personality and knowledge added a lot to this incredible experience. Both wineries were amazing and we got to taste a wide range of options. River cruise was beautiful and lunch was delicious. Highly suggest OPorto road trips (and Luís) for your day trip to Douro Valley.
Ricardo was simply the best! He was fun, knowledgeable and informative! 100% recommend this excursion!
I took the Douro Valley wine tour with them which was an amazing experience. The drive, the views, the wine tastings, the lunch, everything was excellent. Our tour guide Ricardo was great and our wine tour at Quinta do Beijo was easily one of my best experiences - it’s a sweet family run winery with an excellent host Sarah who was the highlight of the whole tour. Would 10/10 recommend the tour for all wine lovers
We had a wonderful experience with Tuna. As advertised, he picked us up at our hotel, promptly on time. Tuna was very personable, informative and knowledgeable. His engaging personality made our tour both enjoyable and interesting. Our lunch was held at a winery with lunch served family style with an abundance of typical Portugueses food. ( great experience). We toured a wine-cellar, sampled their wines and learned a great deal about their vineyard and distribution. The cruise was short but nice with wine sampling, as well. Again, Tuna went above and beyond to help us make the most of our visit. It was one of my most memorable days
From the moment our guide, Luis, picked us up at our hotel, we knew we were in good hands. As a local who grew up in Oporto, he brought experience and familiarity of many aspects of the area, along with lively humor. He was friendly, very knowledgeable and informative of many aspect of the Douro Valley including history, geography and of course, the unique wine experience. We really enjoyed this perspective, and also meeting local Douro Valley wine growing and making families, even a delicious lunch in a wine makers family home. The winery tours and river cruise were also very informative and enjoyable.
Very Disappointing Experience (Poor Value & Missed Highlights) Rating: 0 / 5 Tour Operator: Oporto Road Trips (Booked via Viator) I strongly advise avoiding Oporto Road Trips. For the price charged, this tour was completely unjustified and failed to deliver on its promises. Key issues with the tour: Missed Highlights: Most of the iconic spots in the Douro Valley were entirely skipped. Despite the driver repeatedly promising "unbelievable spots," we were only taken to a single viewpoint before heading straight back to Porto. Subpar Winery Visit: The winery visit was a huge letdown. We weren't even given a proper tour. The guide claimed it was "off-season." Instead, we were just handed a couple of glasses of cheap port wine inside an old building. Terrible Lunch: Included lunch was held in a low-quality, shady spot, accompanied once again by very cheap wine. Serving cheap wine in Portugal where quality wine is widely available for under €5 a bottle feels cheap and disrespectful to paying customers. Overall, the operator seemed to rely on offering low-quality wine rather than delivering a genuine, high-quality tour experience. We had a far superior experience using GetYourGuide (with Living Tours) for our trip to Santiago de Compostela. Viator should seriously consider delisting Oporto Road Trips to protect future customers.
We had a wonderful day exploring the Douro Valley with Pedro! He was a fantastic guide and made the entire experience enjoyable, informative, and memorable. Our day started with coffee and pastries in the charming town of Amarante, followed by a visit to Vieira de Sousa, a wonderful female-owned and operated winery where we enjoyed learning about and tasting their Port. The fine white Port was a particular favorite! Loved the boat ride along the Douro River, seeing the terraced vineyards against the beautiful fall colors was truly a treat and something we won’t forget. Our final stop was Quinta dos Castelares, a certified organic winery, where we tasted a wonderful selection of wines, honey and olive oil. Pedro did an excellent job bringing the region, its wine, and its history to life. The day was thoughtfully paced, filled with beautiful scenery, great wine, and wonderful experiences. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Porto. A fantastic way to experience the Douro Valley!
Fantastic day exploring the Douro Valley with Pedro! We started with coffee and pastries in Amarante, enjoyed wonderful Ports at the female-owned Vieira de Sousa winery (the fine white Port was a favorite!), and took a beautiful boat ride along the Douro River surrounded by terraced vineyards and gorgeous fall colors. After a delicious lunch of traditional cod pie, we visited organic Quinta dos Castelares for more excellent wine tastings. Pedro was knowledgeable, personable, and made the day special. Highly recommend this tour!
It was awesome Pedro was awesome. A wealth of knowledge. A great sense of humour. A great tour guide I would highly recommend him. Food and wine tasting was excellent. The people at the wineries were excellent. Scenery was spectacular. Very much worth it Tks Pedro. Brian And Laurette
Guide Luis S. made this an amazing tour! The day was our favorite out of a 10-day visit to Portugal. Excellent experience we highly recommend!!
We were a family of four and opted to go with the van, with four other people and our driver/guide. Pick up was outside our hotel at around 8am and we were dropped off at the hotel around 5:30pm. Our guide was Johnny; absolutely awesome, fun and knowledgeable. The tour itself is absolutely lovely, to sit back and relax, enjoy beautiful scenes of the vineyards and the Douro River. We stopped by a town first for some coffee and enjoyed it, followed by the first winery where we enjoyed generous tasting of three wines and a cosy wine cellar. next was an hour bout trip, also very enjoyable with on deck seating and more wine, with beautiful scenery. then a late lunch, tasty and hearty, with more wine, at the last winery before the drive back to Porto. In our opinion a must do, and Oporto did a great job. was very easy booking online and they communicated clearly by email for pick up time and location, the day before i think, so do check your email.
Great Douro Valley trip. We visited two nice wineries, got to see a couple of small towns, and got to see the beautiful vineyards from our river cruise. Our guide Miguel was friendly and kept us on schedule all day.
We loved this tour. Ricardo is the best. His knowledge , sense of humor , and enthusiasm was infectious among our group. The two wineries were great. Each of the wineries tour guides were so knowledgeable and friendly. And their choices to taste were spot on. Than you Andy and Marissa !!!! Lunch was fabulous. And easy river boat ride. A great experience. !!!!! Thank you 😊
Miguel was an excellent guide. We went to 2 very different wineries and enjoyed both of them. Lunch was great and they served so much food and wine. We even stopped at an overlook to take pictures after our boat tour. Thanks Miguel for a wonderful day!
Miguel was a great tour guide and took us to 2 very different wineries. We enjoyed our tastings. We had a huge lunch that was delicious and after the boat tour, stopped to take photos at a beautiful overlook. Thanks Miguel for an amazing day!
Pedro and Andre gave us a fantastic experience from the drive through the valley, wine tasting, lunch at a local restaurant and a boat ride on the river! Pedro’s sense of humor & knowledge of the area really made the day enjoyable.
Our Duro Valley wine tour was amazing. We would like to notate to you how very good our tour guide was she was so informative and a wonderful driver and all the places that you recommended and took us to were amazing including the boat ride. I would highly recommend your tour to anyone that is visiting Portugal. It is a must do. Thank you again for a wonderful tour. Marilyn and Tom Florida USA
great experience, great guide and great value! thoroughly enjoyed this day!
Luis was an amazing guide. He’s personable and knowledgeable. It’s a beautiful place. We visited two family wineries. Loved the lunch and the river cruise. The views are spectacular.
Great tour guide who was very knowledgable about both the local area and Portugal as a whole. The wineries were excellent and the hosts very welcoming and friendly as were the boat crew. All in all a terrific day out.
What a beautiful day! Easy meetup at a reasonable hour. Pedro was a fountain of information and personality the entire breathtaking journey. Pastry/coffee stop was top notch. Boat tour was personal. Good wine, good food. Beautiful winery with friendly guide. And more great wine. Fun, informational, beautiful. Couldn’t have asked for anything better.
