You definitely need to book a private tour to experience the beautiful Douro Wine Valley. Paolo was exceptional. He took us to two amazing vineyards. A private owned one and a larger one. Throughout the trip our driver was helpful in giving us insight to areas we were visiting to get the most out of our sightseeing. The meals included at winery were excellent as well as wine tasting. It was a very complete tour that even included a traditional vintage looking boat ride to fully appreciate the valley. You need to book to fully enjoy the Douro Valley. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and it was a highlight of our visit to Portugal. Paolo was an excellent and very experienced tour guide. This was a tour we will never forget and totally worth your money.

We had such a lovely experience on our private tour in the Douro Valley with our tour guide, Alfredo! Not only was he very informative, but the boutique wineries that we were brought to were each unique & beautiful in their own ways. The whole day went smoothly, was well planned, and we never felt rushed to wrap up to go to the next place. The location is full of breathtaking views and an interesting history that will be shared with you throughout the day. Would highly recommend the private tour to have a more unique and individualized experience.

Paolo was an absolutely phenomenal tour guide. He was incredibly knowledgeable on all things Porto and the Douro Valley. We had gotten so lucky with the weather and the day tour was thoughtfully planned and gorgeous. Paolo let us take as much time as we wanted at each stop and was a joy to have in our group. Two members didn't get a chance to eat breakfast, and he stopped in a small town to talk us through some small bites to get and still made sure we were on schedule for the other items listed below. Stops: 1. Vineyard for first tasting. Viere de Sousa - incredibly accommodating. My partner and I just got engaged and they were kind enough to give us a special pour (each of our 6 person group), their 40 year old tawny port to celebrate. Bought a few to bring home. 2. Pecheca vineyard for second tasting and three course lunch. Lunch was very well done and had some of the most beautiful grounds. 3. The Vintage House Hotel - boat tour down Douro Valley. Stunning 4. Visit to Pinhao train station 5. Drive back to Porto Paolo stayed with us for over about 12 hours today. Would do it again tomorrow if we could!

This was a great experience. The Douro Valley is spectacular. We visited three very different and interesting wineries. Both the wines/ports and lunch were very nice. Paulo is an excellent guide - very knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend the day with. The tour was also very well paced. We highly recommend it.

Alfredo was an incredible guide! My wife and I have done many guided tours throughout Europe and we have to say this one was our favorite! We loved the entire itinerary that Alfredo curated for us, and I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys wine!

Alfredo planned and executed the perfect day for us. He was able to pick us up in Porto, take us to three beautiful wineries, each one very different from one another which is exactly what we wanted to experience. We also experienced a gorgeous boat tour in the afternoon. He knew the best place for us to have a beautiful lunch - one of the best entrees I ate my entire trip. Alfredo is knowledgeable, kind, efficient, and brought an organized and calm presence throughout the day. It was perfectly planned and stress free. Alfredo from the beginning was patient responsive, respectful and full of ideas on how to structure a day as we had a condensed timeframe of only 8 to make our ship’s departure. We started as 6-7 but in the end had 15 people after other friends found out what we were doing while in Porto. He picked us right up at our ship and we began our journey to the beautiful Douro Valley in a smaller comfortable bus. We started at a smaller newer winery venture of Vieira de Sousa and wow everyone was surprised by how good their whites were and LOVED their ports and I have a case enroute to my home in the US as well as do others! We were alone in their gorgeous tasting room over a hundred years old and perfectly refurbished . Two amazing sisters started this beautiful winery and the day was off to a great start. Next we went to the stunning property of Quinta de Pacheca which is just an amazing larger property with large wine barrel rooms you can stay overnight in, yes that’s right. Here we were escorted to a private dining room and started with a tasting followed by a phenomenal lunch with more wine pairings!! The hosts were amazing! Let’s just say we bought multiple cases in our group here. We also picked up a few bottles for our next private boat ride on the Douro River- it was breathtaking! This was stated by many in our group to be the best excursion of our 10-day cruise and memories we will cherish for a lifetime! My husband and I had a truly wonderful day with our guide Alfredo Santos in the Douro Valley. We don't often do guided tours like this, and it was the highlight of our vacation. Alfredo is an exceptional guide - He has a wealth of experience as a guide and in tourism, and has created a thoughtfully planned day. He shared his detailed knowledge of the history of the Douro Valley as well as the production of wines from this unique area. Alfredo took us to a few select wineries - from a small family farm where we got to walk around the vineyard and hear from the owner, to a larger family owned winery with an incredible three course lunch, to a winery with a phenomenal view of the valley in the afternoons sun. The day also included a short boat ride on the Douro River. The day felt wonderfully relaxed; from being picked up at our hotel in Porto to the stops in Douro Valley, we never felt rushed or tired. Alfredo grew up in Porto and speaks English exceptionally well. Alfredo is attentive and authentic - He truly cares about the Douro Valley, the families/wineries he has connected with there, and the people he brings on this tour.

If you’re planning a trip to Porto, this Douro Valley tour is an absolute must! Our day started with a perfectly on-time hotel pickup by Alfredo in a spotless and very comfortable VW T7. From the very beginning, he made us feel welcome. His English is excellent, and throughout the day he shared so many interesting stories about Portugal, the Douro Valley, its history, and its wine culture. His passion and knowledge really made the experience special. Our first stop was a small, family-owned winery, where we learned a lot about the region and the winemaking process while enjoying a fantastic wine tasting in a very personal setting. After that, Alfredo took us to a stunning winery with breathtaking views. We enjoyed another excellent wine tasting followed by one of the best lunches we had during our stay in Portugal. The day continued with a stop at the beautiful Pinhão train station, famous for its traditional blue tile artwork, before we relaxed on a peaceful boat cruise along the Douro River. It was the perfect way to take in the incredible scenery. Overall, this was a truly unforgettable experience. Without Alfredo’s local knowledge and carefully planned itinerary, we could never have discovered the Douro Valley in such an authentic and enjoyable way on our own. 10/10 experience – highly recommended! Could not have been a better experience! Alfredo’s knowledge of the Douro area is exceptional. Went to a smaller vineyard and had a wonderful tour and tasting with Luis, whose passion and commitment to growing and producing wine on his family’s property is exceptional. Continued to a much larger wine producer with a tasting and gourmet lunch overlooking the beautiful scenery. We then relaxed in a Douro boat ride. An additional tasting was gladly offered but we had to decline. Alfredo is a wonderful host and only wants to please his guests.

Our day in the Douro Valley with Alfredo was one of the highlights of our trip to Portugal. The wineries, scenery, food, and river cruise were all wonderful, but Alfredo is what made the day special. A private tour means spending many hours together, and he made the day feel comfortable, relaxed, and enjoyable from start to finish. He was knowledgeable, engaging, and fun. Somehow, he struck the perfect balance between teaching and guiding us and simply letting us enjoy the adventure. My friend of more than 30 years and I had been looking forward to this trip for months, and Alfredo helped make the Douro Valley one of our favorite parts of it. We covered a lot during the day, yet never felt rushed and had plenty of time to appreciate both the beauty of the valley and the people we met along the way. What a wonderful day. Alfredo did a great job with the selection of wineries and the pacing of the day. We definitely ate and drank too much but had no regrets. We purchased wines to ship home and others to take on the plane.

Our day with Alfredo was a gem! He was punctual, professional, very knowledgeable, extremely friendly, personable, open, a fantastic driver and travel guide. It is clear that Alfredo has nurtured genuine relationships over many years with the owners and staff at the select locations he took us to. We were taken to beautiful locations, treated to an exquisite meal (honestly the BEST meal we’ve had in Portugal to date) and met with gracious winemakers who shared their passion for their craft. Our time and money were well spent on this day trip and we would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to experience the beauty and deliciousness (food and wine) that the Douro Valley has to offer.

Alfredo has a wealth of knowledge about the history of the Douro Valley (and how it fits into the wider history of Portugal), the wines of the region, and winemaking in general. The stops on his tour did a great job of showing the variety of business ventures in the Douro Valley, from small, family-owned operations to larger-scale ones, all of which make great wines and pay homage to the history of the region. My wife and I greatly enjoyed his tour and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Porto--regardless of your aptitude for wine. Thanks again Alfredo!

We were traveling with another couple, and our day began with Alfredo picking us up at our hotel. His van was immaculate and he was an excellent driver. We traveled to Douro Valley in absolute comfort, and Alfredo provided commentary on history, geography, wine making, grape varieties, and answered all of our questions. The wineries he had chosen for us were a perfect mix. The first was a small, family owned vineyard. Luis was a great host and provided a fabulous tour and tasting. The next stop was a larger family owned vineyard with a totally different feel, just as wonderful and delicious. We had a beautiful lunch, then headed to the river for a boat ride down the Douro. It was absolutely breathtaking. The last stop was a beautiful winery with absolutely fabulous views. The ride back to the hotel was a bit quieter because we were all exhausted, but Alfredo was attentive and delivered us to our hotel safely. This day trip was definitely the highlight of our trip. We would highly recommend Alfredo and his company for anyone wanting a full day of fun!

We had a perfect day exploring the Douro Valley with Alfredo. We were in Porto for 6 days, but decided to take a day trip into the Valley. He picked us up right from our hotel at 8:30am and we arrived back just before 8pm. The drive out was very pleasant and we talked a lot about port, Porto, Portugal, wine, etc. It was lovely! Our first stop was at a smaller, family-run vineyard where we got a tour and tasting with the wonderful owner, Luis. He was so knowledgable and friendly. The wine and port were fantastic and we especially loved the cheese pairings. The second stop was to a larger, more popular vineyard where we saw some larger groups. However, Alfredo arranged for a small, beautiful spot for us in a garden area to enjoy our tasting. He also toured us to the grape stomping area and taught us more about the process. Our lunch was at this vineyard and was spectacular! And of course more wine and port! After lunch we went on a one hour boat ride along the River, which was beautiful. You can imagine what a full week river cruise would be like with such beauty. Our final stop was at a vineyard with the best view. We sat out in the garden overlooking the Duoro River and vineyards; it was a gorgeous stop to end our day. Overall, this was a fantastic tour and worth every penny. Alfredo is kind, thoughtful, knowledgeable, professional, and a pleasure to spend the day with. He mentioned he does other areas of Portugal and that all tours are customizable. We would highly, highly recommend him!

Our private Douro Valley Immersive Wine Tour was one of the highlights of our Portugal trip for sure! Our experience was arranged with Alfredo Santos of Tourvent; our driver and guide for the day was Luis Morgado. Luis was professional, fun, and extremely knowledgeable about Portugal, the Douro Valley and wine! We thoroughly enjoyed visiting the tree very different from one another vineyards. Each vineyard provided two table wines and two ports for tasting and an expert to guide us through the tastings. The three course lunch (with three wines) was delicious and was served in a beautiful setting. We were able to meet Alfredo as he was doing a private tour with another group the same day. Both Alfredo and Luis are passionate about what they do and this added to our wonderful experience. We would definitely recommend this tour with Tourvent to family and friends whenever they are planning a trip to Porto!

We booked this private wine tour for our family of four (ages 22 to 81), and it was hands down one of the highlights of our trip to Portugal. We traveled at our own pace, enjoying the wine, scenery and meeting with some of the wine makers directly! The trip also included an hour ride down the Douro Valley, incredible views. It is a full day, over 10 hours, but totally worth the investment in time.

An incredible experience!! Alfredo was an incredible guide and crafted the perfect experience in the Douro Valley. He took us to incredible estates and we tasted the most delicious Port and dry wines. We ordered at least 7 bottles of wine to ship to the US. An amazing day with a great guide. Highly recommend. This was such a seamless, beautiful, fun, comfortable, interesting day! We are so grateful to Alfredo and Susan who guided us around to three beautiful vineyards. We spent the day with our 2 older parents, 6 adults, and a 6, 4, and 1 year old! The communication with Alfredo was wonderful and he and Susan provided beautiful insight to the wine country and to Portuguese culture as well. This trip was the highlight of our vacation. The pictures from the places we visted are some of our best. The lunch that is included is very lovely- white table cloth restaurant, gorgeous meal preparation with more wine included. This was absolutely worth the cost.

Alfredo is the best tour guide i’ve ever had. He gave us such a personalized experience and was generally a chill dude to hang out with for a full day in douro valley. He knows his stuff. He even takes the best photos - like a professional!

We’ve just had the most amazing day in the Douro valley. Alfredo is professional, personable and knowledgable and a pleasure to spend time with. He took us to some wonderful vineyards although our standout favourite was Luis at Gueda - Luis described his family history, the varieties of grapes, and we learned so much from both Alfredo and Luis. Looking forward to see how Luis’ plans continue to develop. We then had a fabulous lunch followed by a lovely cruise in the sunshine on a rabelo-style boat (a traditional Portuguese wooden cargo boat) followed by our final stop which provided fabulous views down the Douro river. Driving was very comfortable and we didn’t feel that we spent long in the car at all. We are a family of five (with 3 grown up sons) and would highly recommend this tour. We hope to come back in the not-too-distant future and will definitely reach out to Alfredo and Tourvent.

This is a very special experience that can be tailored to your own needs. We visited three very different estates and typically tried two wines and three ports - including some wonderful white ports. Due to the tour being private, Alfredo, our hugely knowledgeable and passionate guide was able to individually tailor some stops to our party - one of whom didn’t drink red wine. There were fantastic back stories to each estate and a real variety in terms of size and approach. Our tour happened to coincide with the only bad weather day of our trip, but this worked well as we explored the estates inside, missing out only on the views. The meal was exceptional, three excellent courses of superb food. We could have missed the river trip, due to the weather but I’m sure it is lovely on a sunny day. Long day, 8 til 8, but well worth the cost. Thank you Alfredo

Had an amazing “best kept secrets” tour yesterday with Alfredo. Even got to taste 209 year old Port right from the cask. This was the 3rd tour we’ve done with him over the past 7 years. Can’t recommend him enough
