Douro Valley Premium Small-group Tour: Wine, Lunch & Cruise

Guide showed with a self proclaimed bad cold, no mask, and didn't take slightest proactive precautions to ventilate van on the drive, have lunch away from us to try and minimize germ spread etc. Why the company didn't find a replacement knowing he was showing up sick is a whole other question (he told us he covid tested and it was negative so he knew he was coming to this sick). Disappointed my most relaxing day of the vacation was a day of anxiety around if the next week of vacation will have me sick. The good parts were not worth the risk to my health. I'm sure he's a nice guy, and he knew his content. But this was disrespectful and irresponsible on his side and the company's. There should have been transparent communication and mitigations.

No matter how beautiful of a location Duro valley is, when your tour guide says within the first five minutes (through a coughing fit) "sorry guys, it's a bad cold not covid, I tested" your relaxing day is now overshadowed by stress at the possibility of being sick the rest of your trip. As nice as and educated as he was, didn't wear a mask or take any other precautions. The tour company should have found a replacement and avoided this all together. Irresponsible on both of those sides. Disappointed and now anxious from what would should have been the most relaxing day of the whole trip. Generally, the activities were nice and we'll organized but the irresponsible approach to giving us a leader with a cold in an enclosed van for hours was disrespectful.

It was a great experience! We were able to see such beautiful sights and enjoy yummy wine!! We learned so much!

Nuno was great guide and an excellent host. He provided us with excellent information about the wines and history or Porto and Duoro Valley. Highly recommend him to anyone taking the tour.

While the 2 wineries were fun, we ordered wine and olive like to be shipped to the US from one. The winery charged the credit card and it’s been almost 2 months and we never received it. I emailed twice with no response.

The guide Marcel was engaging and informative. He got everyone involved in the day. He provided plenty of time to take photos and ask him questions we didn’t feel rushed. It was a beautiful day.

A wonderful day spent in a beautiful part of the world. Our guide, Sergio Silva, was excellent. Transportation was smooth and the Port wine was delicious.

Our guide, Sara, was wonderful. Pick-up on schedule. Information about the region was very helpful. The winery visits focused on still dry wines not Port. Our boat ride had beautiful views of the steep, surrounding vineyards.. Lunch was very nice. The olive oil and honey tasting was really well done. Unfortunately, while everything was for sale and for shipment, the honey was not. Overall a nice trip to a see the Duoro Valley.

This tour to the Douro Valley was incredible. Our guide was fantastic, the countryside is breathtaking and of course the wine was delicious. This is a must when visiting Portugal. We enjoyed it and met some incredible people along the way. Don’t miss this one!

This is just a terrific way to spend a day in the Douro wine country. Small group of 3 couples in a comfortable Minivan had a great time visiting several wineries, lots of tastings, and a beautiful lunch…with more wine. Excellent tour guide. Well worth the price.

I had such a good time today, exploring the Duomo Valley and port tasting. Our guide, Luis Snow, was absolutely charming and so informative. He talked and explained so much throughout the day. The tasting at the first winery was very good and the venue was very nice …..and they had dogs. The wine was good. The next stop was for lunch. Lots of wine and the food was actually decent. I would definitely recommend this company for your tour.

We went in October which allowed for perfect weather. Our guide, George was fantastic and took extra care to make sure the trip was enjoyable.

Worse experience with a tour company. They over booked the tour and place me between the driver and another person. Imagine my left leg had to be folded on the floor of van!!. Of cousrse like any human I was fustrated and use language that I was not supposed to. The tour guide had to rebuke me by telling me how impolite I was and that his daughter would say the same to me. He even brought up the fact that I was rude to his country and that he would not be rude if he was in mind. And I know for a fact he was swearing at me in Portoguese. What does this have to do with my fustration with a company that ruined my day and one of the tour that I was really loooking forward tois beyond me. It is exactly two hours and not one person from the company reach out to apologized what happened.They have two vans and the other van was all friends and family so they wanted to be together. As a solo traveller you always get this type of treatment and if I was rude and impolite to his country. Then why I have the tour company went totally silent and have not taken the opportunity to reach out to me!

Great tour. Get to see parts of Douro and taste great wine. All tour people were great. Especially our guide Sara was awesome!

My friend and I had an absolutely wonderful time on this Douro Valley tour! The scenery was breathtaking, the atmosphere was fantastic, and the whole experience was worth every penny. Our guide, Samuel, made the day even more special. He was incredibly kind and welcoming, and his explanations were clear, engaging, and full of interesting details. He was also such a pleasure to talk to- we really enjoyed our conversations with him throughout the day! We couldn't have asked for a better experience. What an amazing Douro Valley Wine Tour experience!!! George was a phenomenal and outstanding tour guide. Great historian and wine knowledge. He was always on time to each stop, even with a detour that added an amazing off route experience. Very, very, very pleased with this tour company and their staff!

Great overview of Duoro Valley and interesting tours of two wineries. Guide Sarah was amazing and provided great feedback. Stoped at a really nice place for a fabulous lunch. We were a small group of only six people and the ride in small bus was very comfortable.

Great tour of the countryside on our way to the wineries. Our host Alex was friendly, knowledgeable, very informative L me p, and had a great sense of humor! Lunch was tasty and filling in a beautiful setting where we could relax, share stories and not feel pressure to eat quickly and leave. The boat tour was relaxing and again stunning viewing the vineyards on the rolling and steep hills/mountains. Oh yes, the wine and port were lovely too!

Nuno was a great driver and made our Douro Valley tour such a memorable day. Even with some unexpected van issues, he handled everything professionally and got us everywhere safely and on time. The wine, lunch and entire experience were fantastic. The cliffside, one-lane roads were definitely not my favorite, but Nuno navigated them like a pro! Highly recommend.

We had a wonderful time with Jorge. He picked us up right about Airbnb. The Douro Valley is beautiful and Jorge told us so much about it. He was very knowledgeable. The van was comfortable and clean. We enjoyed the small group experience. The views were so stunning. Lunch was delicious and the wine tastings were so fun. We had a very enjoyable day.

My husband Jose and I had a fantastic time! He said it was the best tour he has been on and we have taken many tours. Marcelo was our guide and he is a wonderful and personable person. I wish that all guides were as caring and knowledgeable. He took great care of us. Our group learned so much, saw so much and laughed along the way. We all felt like family! This was a fabulous full on l, full day experience with great tastings if wine and port and the guide was excellent.

Group of 7 plus driver. Picked up at our hotel. Long drive to get to the stunning Douro scenery, but broken up with vineyard visit. Driver very knowledgeable. Vineyard wines sold at very high markup. The lunch location was delightful but the food was terrible. May be best to visit early September when the grape harvesting takes place.

Fantastic experience with Samuel. Loved everywhere we went except Port winery at end of day. The first winery in the morning in Sabrosa was so interesting, fun, delicious, and we learned so much about wines, honey and olive oil. The lunch setting was just gorgeous and delicious. Boat ride on Doyro was refreshing and scenery was outstanding. Best of all was our really fun group and Samuel. Thanks for a very memorable and unique day!!!

We had an excellent day touring beyond the city, visiting beautiful wineries, including tastings & lunch and a cruise along part of the Duoro. Alex our guide who was very informative & entertaining & our small group of 8 made it a fun day. We would definitely recommend this tour.

This is a long day, for sure, but worth it! The pace is slow-going with enough breaks; there were no huge crowds at any stop (this is mid-Sept). The first vineyard tour was detailed and interesting, with wonderful tastings of wines, port, honey and oils. Second stop was a wonderful lunch al fresco, followed by our 1-hour river cruise, final stop a port tasting. Our guide Sarah was fantastic: fluent in English, very knowledgeable about the wine industry, the Douro region and Porto. She was a great driver, up and down hill and dale-- very positive but not overly chatty.

Alex was awesome. His knowledge and experience of the history, area and wine makes the trip. Why I didn’t give it 5 stars a couple brought a toddler and we had to put up with crying etc. I have booked many activities through Viator but will only book adults only from now on. It’s rude and selfish to take anyone under drinking age to bother the group!

It was a long day, but every moment was worth it, and we came away with some beautiful memories. Our driver, Samuel, was truly outstanding. He was professional, knowledgeable, personable, and so pleasant to spend the day with. He made us feel comfortable from the very beginning and did a wonderful job making sure everyone was enjoying themselves. We were also fortunate to have such a lovely group of people on the tour. We enjoyed getting to know everyone and sharing the experience together. Our first winery, Cabrales, was absolutely over-the-top excellent! We especially loved learning about their truly organic wine and the care that goes into producing it. Their olive oil was also exceptional. We spent about an hour there, and the information we received was fascinating. It was so much more than just a wine tasting—it was a wonderful opportunity to learn about the traditions and products of the region. Lunch was delicious! We had a choice of chicken or cod, and both were very well prepared. The white wine was wonderfully refreshing, and the beautiful venue made the meal even more enjoyable. And then there was the Douro Valley itself—simply breathtaking! 🍇🌿 The vineyards stretching across the hills, the olive trees, the winding roads, and the incredible scenery made us appreciate just how special this region is. The cruise was a wonderful way to take in even more of the beauty of the valley. Yes, this is definitely a full-day experience, but we felt it was absolutely worth it. It gave us the opportunity to see so much of the Douro Valley while enjoying great wine, delicious food, beautiful scenery, and wonderful company. Samuel, thank you for making our day so special! We had a wonderful day trip to the Douro Valley and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The scenery was absolutely beautiful, and travelling in a small group made the day feel relaxed and friendly. It was fascinating to learn about the local winemaking traditions, especially the history and production of Port wine. The relaxing river cruise was also a lovely addition and gave us another opportunity to take in the stunning landscape. Overall, it was a very enjoyable and memorable experience. Our guide George was very knowledgeable and thorough. A day well spent and we enjoyed the Douro wine region. Lunch was tasty. The honey and olive oil tasting was a nice extra treat on top of the wines.
