Our tour was wonderful. Jose was an enthusiastic and entertaining guide. He provided lots of interesting tidbits as we drove to the Douro Valley. The 3 stops we made for tastings were all different, in atmosphere and in the wines and ports we tried. It was a very relaxing day. Highly recommend!

We went on two tours with cool tour Oporto. Both with the same guide- Alvaro. This tour and guide is exceptional. I can’t even think of anything for them to improve on. It’s was an absolutely perfect day and Alvaro in particular had so much to do with it being so special. I highly recommend this tour, this guide and this tour operator. Book with the directly.
Fantastic tour led by our great guide Jose. He arrived five minutes early in a clean, comfortable van. He was very safety conscious, always reminding everyone yo buckle ip. He was a very personable and knowledgeable guide, always responsive to questions. The wineries were diverse, different wines and each with a proud story about their history. For the most part they were private tastings. No pressure to buy. The included lunch, with wine, exceeded our expectations. The scenery in late October was fantastic, foliage colors on the grape vines equal to that of the Blue Ridge Mountains where we lt. Oh, and the boat ride on the Douro was quite enjoyable, one hour long, about 12 people on the boat Thanks for a great day Jose!
Rodrigo gave us the most spectacular experience touring the Douro Valley and visiting three exceptional wineries. We enjoyed sampling excellent wines and fabulous ports at each stop. Lunch provided the perfect opportunity to try local Portuguese fare, with the standout dish being the baked cod and potatoes in a rich cream sauce. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to experience the beauty, culture, and wines of the Douro Valley. Be sure to request Rodrigo as your tour guide. He made the experience truly unforgettable.
Great tour. Our guide, Alvaro, was fantastic!
We are big wine lovers so wanted a tour with more vineyard visits and no boat ride. This fit the bill!
We have used CoolOportotour twice now for Douro Valley wine tastings. Both have been memorable experiences. We love that they are small group and the guides are always great. Rodrigo was the guide this time and he did a terrific job. We highly recommend using CoolOportotours.
Excellent full day tour of the Duoro Valley. One of the only options we found that included three wineries instead of two. All three were enjoyable plus a stop for a delicious traditional Portuguese lunch. David was an excellent guide - he was knowledgeable, fun, helpful and informative and went out of his way to make the tour comfortable for all guests. Good blend of small producers that still provides a great look at the region. Whites, reds and ports there was something for everyone. Would highly recommend!
We were searching specifically for a three-winery tour in Douro Valley that focuses on small producers for small groups and we did not regret going with Cooltour Oporto. We had the best time with José and we were impressed by his knowledge of wine-making in the region. It was informational but not overwhelming, and the interactions were casual yet professional. The three wineries we visited were Quinta Santa Eufémia, Dois Lagares and Rumo Silvestre with lunch at a former school called Vista D'ouro. We had the best experience at Santa Eufémia and Dois Lagares. They were intimate as we had some great conversations with the owners of the wineries learning about their amazing wines. Both places offer a sit-down and relaxing tasting in a beautiful setting. Lunch was a simple three course Portuguese meal with wine, of course and we were treated with such delights as roasted pork, baked cod with cream and pudim. While it was no elevated dining by any means, it was satisfying after our morning tipple. Rumo Silvestre was much less impressive as the experience felt more like a high-volume winery tour at a small sales centre. We stood throughout the tour and the introduction to their wines felt impersonal and more like a sales presentation. It was such a pity we ended the day with them. Overall, it was a pleasant tour even though the third winery was a let down. We hope Cooltour Oporto would re-assess their partnerships to ensure that the wineries provide a boutique and personal experience. We would be more than happy to consider other tours with them when we return to Porto.
Amazing tour. The three wineries were great destinations in beautiful and diverse locations. The wines themselves were also great and diverse. The van was comfortable. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. I definitely recommend for people who love wine since this tour is composed of 3 wineries instead of 2 plus a boat ride like most other tours
Fantastic private Douro Valley tour for our group of five. From the start, our guide was knowledgeable, personable and incredibly accommodating. We had mentioned in advance that we preferred drier wines, and the day was clearly planned with that in mind rather than feeling like a generic wine tour. We visited three smaller wineries, each with a very different experience, and never felt rushed. Our guide did a great job explaining the region, the wines and the history without overdoing it, and he kept the day relaxed and fun. This was one of the highlights of our time in Portugal. If you’re looking for a more personal Douro experience rather than a large-group tour, we would absolutely recommend it.
It was a great trip however we ended up being put on the two winery and river cruise because our third winery was not available. The only negative is that we were not offered compensation for the other tour, which was slightly more expensive. We still had a lovely time and our guide was absolutely wonderful.
My wife, Jullie, and I recently completed another wonderful Douro Valley Wine Tour with Cooltour Oporto. This was our second time touring with them, having previously enjoyed a tour in August 2024, and once again they exceeded our expectations. Our driver and tour guide, Alvaro Santos, was outstanding. He was professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and an excellent driver throughout the day. The Mercedes-Benz van was modern, spotless, and very comfortable. Pickup was prompt and exactly as scheduled, making the start of the day stress-free. We were part of a small group of four couples, which created a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The smaller group size made the entire experience feel more personal, easy, and memorable. It was great revisiting two vineyards that we had enjoyed during our previous Douro Valley tour. However, the highlight of the day was discovering a new winery for us: Dois Lagares Family Vineyards. The wines were exceptional, but what truly made the visit special was meeting co-owner Bruno José Balça Oliveira. Bruno and his brother have done a remarkable job continuing the family legacy started by their grandparents. Bruno’s passion for winemaking was evident, and he explained the vineyard’s history, production methods, and tasting profiles in a way that was both informative and easy to understand. The tour also included a wonderful lunch at Vista D’Ouro, a charming restaurant housed in what was once a rural elementary school. The setting was unique, the food was excellent, and it provided an authentic taste of the Douro region. The return trip to Porto was safe, comfortable, and relaxing. We were dropped off just a short walk from our hotel, providing the perfect ending to an outstanding day. Jullie and I highly recommend Cooltour Oporto to anyone looking for an exceptional Douro Valley wine experience. Their attention to detail, knowledgeable guides, comfortable transportation, and carefully selected wineries make for a memorable and enjoyable day in one of the world’s most beautiful wine regions. We look forward to touring with them again on a future visit to Portugal.
This was a very well done tour with a very knowledgeable guide. I chose the three winery tour and the wineries selected were all smaller family owned operations with very welcoming hosts. They were definitely off of the beaten path for the regular tours which was amazing!
We could not have asked for a better guide through the Douro Valley. David was beyond fabulous. He was very knowledgeable of the area and took us to wonderful places. He was also a great driver on the country roads.😁 I highly recommend him.
Excellent trip. Careful, knowledgeable guide. The tour vendor, contours clearly know what they are doing.
The whole day was a wonderful experience. The wines and port were very high quality. The driver was very friendly and knowledgable.
Almost at a loss for words at how good, amazing, and wonderful this tour was. Fillipe was our guide and driver. Wow- he was the best guide I've ever had for a trip of any kind. The sights were amazing, but the visits to the vineyards and wineries were unforgettable. Small family farms and wonderful hosts who shared so much about their love for their craft and let us sample some amazing wines/ports.
The best tour of our lives!!! We absolutely loved our experience. We booked this tour and got exactly what we hoped for which was an intimate group, with a super warm guide - Andreia whi was funny knowledgeable and made the experience even better. This tour took us to wineries that were less commercial and we even got to meet the owners and stomp grapes! It was such a pleasure and would recommend you take this tour over any of these other companies who will take you to large wineries with boat loads of tourists and making it feel like a conveyor belt. Also the van was super comfortable plenty of room and our guide always had the AC ready to go before we got in. 10/10 would do it again and again
Our guide Miguel was very knowledgeable and informative, whilst keeping things fun rather than a lecture tour. Great company on the tour with our other 3 guests, enjoying some excellent wines and fantastic views along the way. All together, a very enjoyable day.
A wonderful tour of the Douro Valley. Andreia was knowledgeable, interesting and a great driver! Above all, she was very caring and considerate to all of us, which was much appreciated.
This tour is a must do experience, to sample the exquisite ports and wines in the Douro valley, as well as see the beautiful landscape. The guides are fun, knowledgeable and provide great bits of information that make the tours so enjoyable. The Quintas visited are superb, the meal is fabulous (vegetarian catered for exceptionally) and the boat trip is an excellent opportunity to get to know the others on your van. All in all a great day out! Thank you Andriea and Jose!
Spectacular day and a wonderful tour guide! The wineries , tastings and lunch were all spectacular. Our group was small, tour guide informative and van very comfortable. Sue and Dale
Cooltour Oporto exceeded our expectations for the Douro Wine Tasting Tour. We love wine and supporting small producers so when we were looking for a tour most of the other tours seemed very generic and were going to the same places. While we wanted to taste port we really wanted to try some other wines too and this tour did that. We went to 3 different small wineries and received amazing history and tastings. The first one had cats, history and excellent white, red and one port wine. Our excellent guide Rodrigo then whisked us off to the next winery driving through breathtaking scenery. He made stops at amazing viewpoints and gave us some more background about the Douro Valley. Our 2nd winery had a gorgeous tasting room that they recently completed with spectacular visuals of the history of their family and wine making. The wine tasting was beautifully set up and we enjoyed hearing about each wine. The final stop was up high with the most stunning views of the valley where we enjoyed a homemade lunch with way too much food, wine and a dessert (a heavenly creme brulée). Rodrigo then took us around the property to explain how port is made there. After the tour we sampled 4 different ports including a rose one which I didn’t even realize was possible for a port and even a vintage 2014 one. The staff at every winery was so lovely and welcoming it made the day so special. While you are not doing the river cruise here, honestly didn’t feel like we needed that at all. Hearing the history and tasting the love that goes into these wines was just absolutely unforgettable. Thank you Cooltour & Rodrigo, we will never forget this adventure and definitely made us want to come back in the future.
We had a wonderful day and learned a lot about port wine and then got to taste some. The drive there was very pleasant as we got out of the city and saw different scenery. It was very interesting to see the vineyards and learn of their history. We also met some owners and heard stories directly from them. We ate authentic Portugal tapas and had lunch. Our tour guide was cheery and enthusiastic and even gave us some additional information about other places in Porto that we might want to do. I would highly recommend this tour if you want to get out of Porto and enjoy a very relaxing day.
We had an amazing time on this tour, Filipe (our tour guide) was super friendly, fun and knowledgeable about the valley and Portugal in general, he even gave us a great tip on where to go on the days following our tour. The two vineyards we visited were delightful, food was delicious and the wine and port were incredible. Definitely recommend doing the boat tour as well as it's so peaceful and relaxing. If you are travelling to Porto this a must-tour as it gives you an appreciation of how the region has been producing port and wine for centuries and if you are lucky to have Filipe as a tour guide you will be guaranteed a fun day out :)
This tour was so nice and intimate. The tour guides and the people I met along the way were amazing. I would 100% recommend!
Nice & comfortable VW van as transport, easy pace to the day, very knowledge and professional guide - Maria - really good day out.
Very interesting and well organized tour, the guide is brilliant (Numo)... the lunch, not so much...
Wonderful Douro Valley Tour with CoolTour Oporto: “our ♥️ Violeta“ - safe driver, competent knowledge, history and oenological knowledge, very good English, humorous, it was a wonderful day with you, THANK YOU!
Great day out of Porto! The tour had 6 people and started at a winery (1.5 hours from Porto) followed by a cruise, lunch and then a port tasting. The winery and port estate were both excellent - lovely hosts and beautiful products. Our guide was fantastic.
I've very enjoyed my day trip to Douro valley with out guide Selesia (I probably misspelled the name :-)). The guide gave a personal treatment to every traveler.
We enjoyed an absolutely fabulous day in the Douro Valley with our guide Violeta! We opted for the relaxed version of the trip and it was lovely. Violeta was great fun, full of interesting facts about the region, wine, history, she was great! We had a delicious lunch with wine tasting, a wonderful boat ride and an unforgettable trip to the vineyards with spectacular views, a port cocktail & tawny port tasting. Book this now! It's a must if you're visiting Porto or the region!
We had a great day on this tour. Bruno was an excellent guide. He had great energy all day. Nice visits with the two wineries we visited. Very educational and our first wine tour was especially good. The owner and his wife toured us through the 300+ year old winery and had an excellent tasting. It was all well done, including the boat ride.
We thoroughly enjoyed our day out in the Douro valley region led by our lovely guide Raquel. Our group was a nice mix of six Americans, one Brit and one Finn. I think the tour was nicely structured with a pit stop after the initial drive and an enjoyable lunch with copious wine! The visits to the wineries were great without any force selling. The local guides were great. Special mention has to go to Raquel - she was very informative and approachable and did her best to break the ice in the group which was never a problem after the wine tasting started! Her knowledge of the wine production was extensive and it was great to get the insight before tasting the wine. Overall, a great day out in an astonishingly beautiful region!
Unbelievable views with olive trees, almond trees and vineyards galore. Enjoyed some great wine tastings and dinners in the Douro Valley. Hard to describe how beautiful this area is. Must see
We spent the day with Bruno who is an AWESOME tour guide! There were 6 of us for the tour and Bruno did a great job at creating a really fun atmosphere for everyone. Amazing wine, ridiculous views, great food, and an awesome experience. Thanks Bruno!
The tour is excellent we were picked up from our airbnb location and got to see some amazing views of the vine yards and taste some wine. My favorite part was the views they were breath taking as well as the boat cruise. Our tour guide was really cool and everyone was friendly.
We were met on time by Lola who was our guide for the day. We then learned that we were the only couple on this tour. By the end of the day Lola had become a good friend. The journey to the Douro valley was extremely comfortable and Lola imparted some of her detailed knowledge of the area. We took an excellent lunch in our first winery and then went on to Pinhao where we saw the village and boarded a ribeira for a trip up the beautiful Douro valley. We ended up with a port tasting at a small family run Quinta. They were totally charming and could not do enough for us.Lola then returned us to our apartment having had a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable day..If you have the chance to go, don’t miss it!!
Cesclia(Sorry if I spelled it wrong), was awesome. She was funny, obviously knew what she was talking about when it came to wine/Port, the history of Portugal and the area we toured. Yet kept it light, fun and definitely on time. Thank you, great tour!!
The drives were very long — felt like I was in the van all day. The first wine tasting was lovely - 8 people sitting around a table tasted 2 wines with chorizo, bread, olive oil. The boat ride was nice but something we could’ve done in Porto itself. The lunch spot was really pretty, food was average. The port tasting was TERRIBLE — after lunch they stuffed 30 people in one room, no space to sit, we stood around waiting for a really cocky guy to pour us 2 glasses of awful port. I really wished we had just visited the cellars in Porto/ Gaia instead. Overall, our guide was a really nice guy but I expected to get a lot more information — he was more of a driver than a guide.
This day was most enjoyable. Our guide, Violetta, was wonderful. She was informative and entertaining and an excellent driver. She interacted with all people on the group tour really well and I enjoyed her company immensely. The views were breathtaking and the boat trip along the Douro was well worth it. A great day out that we thoroughly recommend!
This was a trip for a couple in their sixties and a well-behaved Mum almost 90!! we were picked up exactly one minute away from our apartments in Rua da Boa Nova and the two guides Violeta and Iza were fabulous guides throughout a most relaxing and enjoyable trip from central Porto to the very centre of the Douro Valley at Pinhao via Régua. Everything was perfect: the weather of a pure blue sky in early February and fantastic panoramas and viewpoints. The lunch at Aneto Winery and the wine tasting with Tiago, were first class, so were the delicious wines and port wine cocktail at Quinta do Jalloto and so was the very charming host Faustino. The English of the two guides was well above average and their charm was an added bonus. A most enjoyable and relaxing day.
I would classify this day as an experience, because it was so much more than just a day tour. The tour guide Hugo was great, and his commentary wasn’t just informative and knowledgeable, but humorous too. The wineries that we went to were beautiful, and the staff at each winery provided very informative tours. The lunch at the second winery was phenomenal and so were the port wine tastings. I would highly recommend this tour/tour company to anyone, and would definitely go on the same tour again in the future. Thanks for a wonderful experience!!
My husband and I booked this tour on the last day of our 5 days in Porto. Pedro picked us up from our hotel at 8.10am and then collected a further 6 people from around the city. We headed to Douro Valley in a very comfortable mini bus. The drive of 1 1/2 hours went quickly as Pedro pointed out various places and told a few stories, which were very entertaining. Be prepared for spectacular scenery when you’re in the valley proper and also some of the narrowest (single track and cobbled) roads which Pedro skilfully manoeuvres. The first half hour stop in Pinhão is just to stretch your legs and grab a coffee and to be honest there’s not a lot else there apart from a river. The next stop is at a family run winery with breathtaking views high above the valley. You can see the river and all the terracing that makes growing the grapes possible. The family that runs it take you on a small tour and then you taste a white, rose and red wine that they make, all of which I liked. We were also lucky enough to taste their 10 year old port. They also supplied some bread and home made olive oil and honey for dipping - yum! Next stop was lunch which was ordered in advance so there was no delay when we arrived at the restaurant. There was a choice of pork, veal, cod and a vegetarian selection, together with shared starters and a choice of dessert. Most people chose the drunken cake (there was a theme for the day 🤣) Red and white wine was also provided so all in all it was a very good lunch. The last stop of the day was, of course, to try some port. I can’t remember the name of the winery but you were shown the massive stone ‘baths’ (?) where they still stomp the grapes every year. Again we tried various ports and had cheese, crackers and quince jam. I would 100% recommend this tour for the knowledgeable, friendly guide (Pedro) and the awesome scenery and fabulous wines.
Awesome experience! Fun tour with great tour guide Pedro. Very beautiful nature and great wine tasting. You must do it if you are visiting Porto.
Unfortunately the day we set out for our day trip to the Douro Valley was dismal and gray but not really raining. But in fact it did not have a negative impact at all. It was a small group of 8 people and everyone was friendly and enthusiastic. It was a beautiful ride through the countryside and our driver shared much history and anecdotes in Portugués and English. Our 2 wine tours were very informative and we bought some delicious olive oil and port to bring home. We all took the boat trip on the river which was pretty and relaxing. And the included lunch was also quite good. We don’t usually do group tours but we were glad we did this tour.
I don;t know why but instead of booking the tour as everybody else these days online I wanted to go to the shop! But not to one of the stands on the river form no.. to a proper shop - silly me. I have find the address but couldn't find the shop / office. We sat down for a coffee and I called the office it was Marcia who answered - she asked us to come over to the office (they just moved to the new place - luckily just round the corner from the coffee shop). Marcia - picked us up from the entrance and told us everything about the tour we paid and then started chatting about everything, Porto, truism, economic situation of young people we could spend with her all day - unfortunately she was at work and the phones were ringing. The actual trip was wonderful - very casual with great people (only 6 of us + our guide and driver Pedro).Pedro picked us up from our doorsteps around 10:00 am Views over Douro Valley were breath taking , lunch and wine testing in old train station in Regua was top notch; and then the river cruse and after that port tasting (with very nice little nibbles) in small family vineyard on the top of all hills in Pinhao. Got back to in good time for sunset . I recommend to anyone to take the tour it is worth every penny. Please book online - that's the easiest option lol.
The tour was excellent, thanks to our guide Pedro. There was small group in mini-van, and we saw most beautiful landscapes, visited fine vineries, mad a boat trip, had lunch in one of the tiny villages. All the tour was delightful, and I highly recommend it to everybody. the company "Cooltour Oporto" is very friendly and good organized.
Absolutely wonderful experience. I highly recommend it. The guide was very knowledgeable and the food and wine were excellent. The views were magnificent.
