Booked last minute after a flight diversion and the staff could not have been kinder. Greeted with a glass of port at check-in. Room was spacious and quiet, with a view over Praça da Liberdade up Avenida dos Aliados to City Hall. Breakfast was a standout: huge spread, fresh juices, honeycomb, proper espresso. The building is a restored 18th century palace and it shows. Would happily stay here again, this time on purpose.

We absolutely loved our stay at the InterContinental Porto. The hotel is GORGEOUS from the moment you walk in, with a stunning lobby, beautiful rooms, and a elegant dining room. What truly stood out though, was the warmth and professionalism of the staff—everyone was welcoming and genuinely helpful, from the doorman and concierge to the receptionist. The breakfast buffet was exceptional, offering an impressive selection of high-quality foods and beautifully presented dishes that made breakfast a highlight of our stay. Overall, the hotel provided a wonderful combination of elegance, comfort, and outstanding hospitality. We would definitely stay there again!
this hotel has little to no functioning air conditioning. it was very hot in portugal when we stayed, but i wouldn’t call this bad AC, id say non-existent. if you’re used to this, it’s fine, but it’s worth considering if you’re someone that needs to sleep in cold. the thermostat says it gets down to 18c/64f but by my estimates the room is easily 74f+. property is nice and centrally located. breakfast is a B at best.
Our stay was fairly disappointing given the amount we paid. The room was very dark, with little ability to let in more sunlight and there was only a small table and one chair to sit in besides the bed. We paid for the breakfast buffet, but we're disappointed both mornings with cold and lukewarm food at the hot section as well as fairly mediocre coffee. The service at the hotel desk and bar were very good, but the overall experience of the breakfast and room were not at the level of a very expensive hotel.
Location is great. We wanted to thank the front desk team, we were upgraded to suite at check in for being IHG gold member and for booking through Chase Sapphire program. Room was very spacious for an international traveler with luggage. Hotel is very beautiful and has history. Special call out for having low fat options in the breakfast which was a nice touch for those who have diet restrictions. Out of the three five star hotels that we stayed at Portugal, this is the only 5 star hotel which adjusted 100 dollar credit into euros and were charging for more than 2 coffee capsules.
