Great way to see the key sights in the south of the island. The transport was punctual and well organised, and we were able to adjust the schedule as the day went on to suit our needs. The driver was well informed, loved their job, and kept us entertained all day. Excellent value.

Itinerary
Travelers will visit Trou aux Cerfs, a dormant volcanic crater located in the heart of Curepipe. Rising about 605 meters above sea level, this natural wonder offers breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views of Mauritius, including the central plateau, surrounding towns, and distant mountain ranges. Visitors can stroll around the crater’s rim, take memorable photos, and learn how this ancient volcano helped shape the island’s geography. On clear days, you can even spot the shimmering coastline in the distance. The peaceful setting and cool mountain breeze make Trou aux Cerfs a perfect first stop on your South Mauritius adventure.
Travelers will visit Grand Bassin, also known as Ganga Talao, one of the most sacred Hindu sites in Mauritius. Nestled in the lush highlands, this serene crater lake is believed to be linked to the holy River Ganges in India and is surrounded by beautiful temples and towering statues of Hindu deities. Visitors can explore the temple grounds, observe traditional offerings and rituals, and admire the 108-foot-tall statue of Lord Shiva, one of the tallest of its kind in the world. The peaceful atmosphere and spiritual significance make Grand Bassin not only a religious landmark but also a place of reflection and cultural discovery for travelers of all backgrounds.
At Alexandra Falls Viewpoint, travelers will experience one of the most breathtaking natural landscapes in southern Mauritius. Located within the Black River Gorges National Park, this stunning waterfall cascades through lush tropical forest, offering spectacular views of the surrounding valleys and greenery. Visitors can enjoy a short walk to the viewing platform, where cool mountain air and the sound of rushing water create a peaceful atmosphere. On clear days, the viewpoint offers a panoramic glimpse stretching all the way to the southern coastline. It’s a perfect stop for nature lovers and photographers looking to capture Mauritius’s wild beauty.
Travelers will stop at the Black River Gorges Viewpoint, one of the most spectacular vantage points in Mauritius. Overlooking the vast expanse of the Black River Gorges National Park, this viewpoint offers sweeping panoramas of deep green valleys, dense forests, and shimmering rivers winding toward the ocean. It’s the best place to truly appreciate the island’s untouched natural beauty and diverse ecosystem — home to many endemic plants and rare bird species. Visitors can take stunning photos, enjoy the fresh mountain breeze, and soak in the peaceful atmosphere before continuing their journey through the south.
Travelers will visit the Chamarel Rum Distillery, a family-run estate producing some of Mauritius’s finest rums. Guests can take a guided tour to learn about the traditional rum-making process, from sugarcane harvesting to distillation, and gain insight into the island’s rich cultural heritage. Visitors also have the opportunity to taste a variety of locally crafted rums (optional) and explore the gift shop for artisanal products. The distillery is set against a scenic backdrop of rolling hills and lush greenery, making it both an educational and visually stunning stop on your South Mauritius adventure. ( clients have to pay an entry fees 13 USD per person )
Travelers will experience two of Mauritius’s most famous natural attractions in Chamarel. First, the Chamarel Waterfall — a spectacular cascade plunging over 100 meters into a lush forested valley — offers breathtaking views and excellent photo opportunities. Next, explore the Seven Colored Earths, a unique geological formation where the sand dunes display distinct layers of vibrant colors ranging from red, brown, and violet to green and blue, created naturally over centuries. Visitors can stroll along the designated paths, take photos, and marvel at this rare phenomenon. This stop combines nature, geology, and scenic beauty, making it a highlight of the South Mauritius Tour. ( clients have to pay an entry fees around 12 - 13 USD per person )

This tour was awesome! We were hesitant about booking it because it required about an hour in the car, however our driver, made it awesome! (We are forgetting her name, but she spoke French and it began with a D). She taught us all about the sites we passing with good history. The stops at the boat factory and jewelry stores were interesting, although they were quite pushy to buy things. All of the other stops were beautiful! We loved the view points, the rum factory and even had a chance to stop at the lychee wine house. We are so happy we did it.
Aniket was a fantastic guide who took time to explain both the history and culture of Mauritius to us. We had a great day with him and his suggestions of what to do made the tour even better than we hoped. Highly recommended.
An amazing journey with Mrs Saroj, she was so knowledgeable patient and made our day so awesome !!!!
It’s a fun tour, a quick visit of interesting spots. We loved our guide, she was much fun and had a lot of interesting info to tell
Our guide was very nice and he spoke very well English. He told us about the local life here, which was really interesting. The tour was also cool, we loved the places we visited.
Tour guide was Chucky along with his mother helping with facts/history of the various sites. Was expecting a tour with a group but turned out to be just me. So I received the ultimate private tour. Tour definitely worth the money as we covered a lot of different places. Chucky very personable and would highly recommend him. So much so that I gave him a tip. He was not expecting it, nor did he lobby for one but I know that most all of the locals do not make a lot of money so wanted to help out. As an American, it’s in our culture to acknowledge and reward great service and also help those on lower end of pay scale.
A Must - but depending on good weather.
We had a very good tour with Gino. Everything was perfecto from hotel pick up to lunch and all the locations visited.
We visited the sacred lake at Grand Bassin, the stunning Black River Gorges, and the magical Seven Colored Earth in Chamarel. Every stop felt special. Our Guide shared deep knowledge about the history, culture, and nature of Mauritius. The timing was perfect. We never felt rushed. We had enough time to take photos and ask for questions. This tour gave us a real look into the heart of the island. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn and see the best of the south!
I cannot thank our driver, Kauwshik, enough for making our trip to Mauritius so truly special! He was incredibly kind and thoughtful toward my elderly parents, constantly checking in on them and paying extra attention to restroom breaks and dining options. Thanks to him, my parents were able to try a wonderful local restaurant, which was one of the highlights of their trip! Even though we had some rainy weather during the day, Kauwshik made sure we visited the Seven Coloured Earth as we had wished, and he generously guided us to as many fantastic spots as time allowed. Thanks to his exceptional hospitality, this became the best trip to Mauritius for my family. Highly recommended!
We couldn’t recommend this highly enough. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t quite on our side, and to make matters worse, I suffered a nasty cut to my knee during the day. What could have easily turned into a difficult and disappointing experience was completely transformed by the incredible care and kindness of Sanoj. From the moment I was injured, Sanoj went so far above and beyond to look after me. She personally took me to a pharmacy, made sure I had everything I needed to treat my knee properly, and even ensured I had painkillers. She was genuinely concerned about my wellbeing and never once made me feel like I was being a burden. What really stood out was how thoughtful she was for the rest of the day. She made every effort to minimise the amount of walking I had to do, escorted us around and constantly made sure I was comfortable and okay. Her kindness, patience and compassion were truly exceptional. We honestly couldn’t have asked for anyone better to look after us. And despite everything, the tour itself was absolutely brilliant. It was fascinating to see the rum-making process from start to finish, the rum was fantastic, and Sanoj’s knowledge and passion really brought the whole experience to life. She was engaging, informative and incredibly welcoming. Sanoj was the absolute highlight of our day. Her professionalism, warmth and genuine care went far beyond what we could ever have expected. She didn’t just give us a great tour — she made sure we were safe, comfortable and looked after when I really needed it. A huge, heartfelt thank you to Sanoj for everything she did for us. You are an absolute credit to the tour and a wonderful ambassador for Mauritius. We will remember your kindness for a very long time. If you’re considering this tour, do it — and if you’re lucky enough to have Sanoj as your guide, you’re in for an absolutely wonderful experience! 🌴🍹❤️ 10/10 — thoroughly deserved!
We had the tour yesterday, and we absolutely loved it! It was truly amazing and exceeded our expectations. The places we visited were beautiful, and the whole trip was unforgettable. Our driver was fantastic as well — very friendly, helpful, cooperative, and professional. He really made the experience even better for us. Overall, we had a wonderful time and really enjoyed everything. Thank you so much for such a great experience! 😊

We did this tour and we enjoyed it thoroughly. Brinda was our driver cum guide and she drove very carefully and safely. We visited all the places as per the itinerary and we really enjoyed our day. The Rhumerie was a nice place, Chamarel is very beautiful and Brinda suggested a nice place for lunch which was really good. It is a long day and we were exhausted by the end of it but worth it all. The only bit I did not like was the place suggested for coffee. It’s called Varangue Sur Morne. It’s not Brinda’s fault but I want to point out the attitude of the staff at this restaurant which overlooks some hills and the views are great. The staff would not let us sit where we could get a nice view claiming that prior reservations had to be made. I politely asked if we could sit until their guests arrived and they refused. Actually no one came until we left and I think they wanted to keep that area free for those opting for the lunch buffet. They were quite rude and arguing with us.
You get to see various views of Mauritius & many of it's landmarks. The South is very nature orientated.
Wonderful tour of the South of the Island, excellent informative guide, fully recommend.
I paid $125 for a private tour based on a specific itinerary, but the experience did not go as advertised. The driver changed the itinerary and took me to multiple souvenir shops I did not request. I also felt pressured during the tour. Most concerning, after becoming upset, the driver drove recklessly and I felt unsafe in the vehicle. I ultimately could not complete the tour because of the situation. I contacted the company afterward. They apologized and offered only a $17.04 refund, which I do not feel fairly reflects the experience. I would strongly recommend clarifying the itinerary and expectations beforehand and prioritizing passenger safety.
The services described included were not there. The guide was just a taxi driver. Best part are at the end of the day you need to pay extra and go by yourself.
What a lovely day we had with Aniket! My two sons absolutely loved his great humour and all the interesting facts and stories he told them. The tour was really interesting and it was clear Aniket really cared about the experience we were having. We loved how we also met his friends and mum on the journey! Aniket knew lots about the Hindu gods and goddesses at the temple. He customised the tour for us too. He also gave us enough space to explore things for ourselves - like the 7 coloured earth. Definitely book this trip. Thanks for being a bundle of joy Aniket!
We had such a wonderful experience on our South Mauritius Highlights Tour, and a huge part of that was thanks to our lovely guide, Saroj! From the beginning, Saroj was incredibly warm, helpful and knowledgeable. Throughout the day, she patiently answered all our questions about Mauritius and shared so much about the island’s culture, religions, history and way of life. What made the experience especially memorable was being able to learn about Mauritius from the perspective of a local Mauritian, rather than simply hearing facts we could have found through a Google search. The tour itself was packed with some of the most beautiful sights in the south, including Seven Coloured Earth, Chamarel Waterfall, Black River Gorges and Ganga Talao. Along the way, Saroj gave us plenty of context about each place, which made visiting them so much more meaningful. One of my favourite parts of the day was lunch! Saroj brought us to an authentic, family-owned local restaurant, where I had the most wonderful lobster cooked in Creole sauce. It was such a lovely experience getting to enjoy something local and away from the more touristy spots. For the price we paid, we felt that this tour was absolutely worth it. We came away not only having seen some of the most beautiful parts of Mauritius, but also feeling like we understood the island and its culture so much better. Thank you so much, Saroj, for such a memorable day and for sharing your beautiful island with us! ❤️🇲🇺
Good amount of places to see in the South.
I always love to have a tour that highlights the best things location has to offer, and this tour was a real delight. With an early start, we were able to see the natural sites in the morning. Visit the Catholic Church and Hindu Temple, with a look at real authenticity, and connect each stop with just a short well paced drive on smooth roads in a quality vehicle. Anniket was a phenomenal and knowledgeable Guide, who was accommodating from the moment he picked me up throughout the day and was a real joy. 10 out of 10!
Our guide for the day was so informative and passionate about the work he does and the country. He was friendly, patient and professional.
Great trip around a fascinating, beautiful part of Mauritius. Good itinerary. Cool, knowledgeable guide.
Perfect Trip - would Book again!
The South Mauritius Scenic and Culture Tour is a must for anyone wanting to experience the breathtaking beauty and vibrant culture of southern Mauritius. Every stop was more captivating than the last, making this one of the true highlights of our trip. A big thank you to our guide, Aniket, who was professional, punctual, knowledgeable, and wonderfully funny. His warm personality and engaging stories brought the day to life, and the spotless, comfortable vehicle made the journey an absolute pleasure. The itinerary was outstanding. We visited the volcanic crater, the Black River Gorges viewpoint, Chamarel Waterfall, a Hindu temple, the Seven Coloured Earths, and a rum distillery. Each stop revealed a different and unforgettable side of Mauritius, leaving us in awe of its dramatic landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Everything was perfectly organised, allowing us to savour each location without ever feeling rushed. If you’re looking for a memorable, well-paced, and exceptional way to explore the south of Mauritius, I highly recommend this tour.
Fab experience our driver was friendly, informative with lots of information and advice She was prepared as well as for the sudden changes in weather Tour was really good. However we all felt a little bit rushed at each location but that is down to itinerary and not the guide Our driver did make sure we completed all our itinerary despite running a little bit later than the allotted time The only part of the tour I would suggest be removed is the visit to the shop to see how ships are made/ souvenir shop This would save time for the other activities
Had a great half day looking around the South of the island with our guide Saroj. Picked up right on time, in a nice air conditioned car. Saroj was a great guide, shared lots of information about the island and all the different sites we visited. Would recommend this trip to anyone wanting to see the South of Mauritius.
We had a brilliant experience with Saroj Chucky and her son on the South Island Tour. Their knowledge, respect and tour was perfect. Learnt a lot from them both about the lovely island. We would highly recommend them. We look forward to returning to the island to see the North and east side. Thank you.
Saroj and her son were lovely guides, very informative and attentive. The island is beautiful and I enjoyed the vistas, waterfalls and 7 colored earths. The local lunch was very delicious and filling, and the tour ended with a great visit to rhumerie before a scenic journey back to my hotel. Would recommend!
We had a great South Mauritius tour! We traveled as a couple by car, and everything was well organized. We saw the main attractions, and both were very friendly and professional. The atmosphere was relaxed, and we really enjoyed the trip. Highly recommended!
I would highly recommend this tour if you want to see the main sights at your own pace and in your own time, guided by a local. I booked this as a solo traveller with limited time here in Mauritius to see the sights in the south of the island on my day off from being out here for work. It was easy to book and I had advance communication with the company on WhatsApp confirming the details and pick-up/ drop-off, which they were able to arrange for me from my hotel. My guide Ishan was fantastic - he arrived early, was courteous, attentive and friendly. He made sure I felt safe as a solo female traveller. He had a lot of knowledge and stories as a Mauritian and was happy to answer any questions. He was careful to ensure that I felt happy with the itinerary and gave me the option to tailor the day to accommodate my preferences - to spend as much or as little time as I wanted at each place. The geopark and 7 sands at Chamarel were a highlight, but all the suggested sights are worth a visit, including the rum distillery tour with which we finished.
Fantastic south west tour with Aniket. Funny and informative.
Annika and her son were wonderful tour guide guides! They showed me Mauritius and told methings that I wanted to learn about as a first time visitor to this wonderful tropical island. I highly recommend them..
I have booked the above tour on 07.06.2026, through TripAdvisor/Viator trusting the site. When I booked, it was duly accepted, total amount deducted from my bank account. And the the individual operator, in this case Tropical Taxi Mauritius contacted me via WhatsApp +230 5823 7695 and stated that my booking is cancelled due to unavailability of drivers and it was a Sunday! Brilliant stuff !! Why the heck someone would accept an order if they cannot deliver the promised service? Even though the tour operator had refunded the money I received SCR 200 ($13.60 USD, €12.00 EUR, and £10.50 GPB) less on the refund. So the trip advisor has ripped me off I guess.
The tour gives you an perfect overview what you need to see as a tourist in the south.
Excellent value for money and a great way to see the island. Our driver Pravesh was friendly, knowledgeable and really courteous.
An amazing tour and one of the highlights of our holiday, our driver aka Mr Chucky ! was most courteous and informative plus at some of the stops we met other friendly drivers from the company giving the impression it was a great company to work for. The tour covered everything as advertised, each stop was leisurely giving you plenty of time plus before each point of interest you were given local knowledge. Overall an amazing day and company, as we learnt they can support other requirements including the introduction to companies offering hire cars. Kate and myself had a wonderful day and thank you for a memorable day.
Excellent driver/guide and tour. As we didn't want to visit the rum distillery and stop for lunch, our driver gave us the opportunity of visiting the Valle Adventure Park instead which was top notch and really made our day.
Fantastic tour with Zaheer. Very informative and adapted well to our family’s needs. Zaheer explained about the history of the island, the culture and people, the geographic highlights and much more. Our smallest child wasn’t on best behaviour but Zaheer made us feel very comfortable and welcome; nothing was too much trouble. Thank you 🙏🏼
The tour was amazing thanks to Robert, our driver. He gave lots of info about the places and Maurutius. We have seen many wonderful places and had a great time!
If you are interested in seeing all the sights of Mauritius without the hassles and time constraints that a bus full of other tourists put on a schedule this is the tour for you. Plus, you have your own personal guide who likely was born in Mauritius as my guide Victor was. With that comes a wealth of knowledge and stories about the Island. You can also tailor your day to accommodate your preferences. More time at one natural beauty, skip one altogether or whatever you would like. Finally, if security is an issue for you, my guide Victor is also a police officer (and wonderful gentleman) and indicated that this tour operator intentionally and preferentially tries to hire off duty police officers as their guides to ensure there isn’t ever any issues with safety, security and timelines. That speaks volumes about this tour company.
We had a lovely day with our wonderful guide Anikex, who got us back to our ship early. It was a very relaxed tour of the Cultural sites of Mauritius.
The experience was unmatched and exceeded our expectations. The booking was easy. pick up and drop off was smooth. Were picked at our hotel in grand bay. The drive took 1.5hrs give and take. All the sight seeing experience was amazing. The 7 colored rocks, black river gorge, temples were beautiful.
My family had amazing experiences. The price for the trip was reasonable. But have to pay entrance fee to the park separately. Aniket was communicative. Ensured the process went smoothly. Driver picked us up at our hotel. Robert was kind, professional and knowledgeable. He made sure our needs were met from start to finish Highly recommend tropical taxi for all your taxi needs.
We had a great trip with Tropical Taxi Mauritius, Chucky our driver collected us from our accommodation on time, we felt safe in the car with him & he was very friendly. We enjoyed all the stops on this tour but especially the waterfalls at Chamarel.
We made the tour with Akash. He is the perfect driver for your trip. He explained us all, helped us with our inquires and was really friendly. Aniket from the team helped us to organize the trip and answered all of our questions about the trip and helped us get a baby seat in the car as well. The tour itself is very good as well. You get to see all the big highlights in one trip. I can totally recommend it.
We had a great tour exploring the south and south-west coast of Mauritius, including Pont Naturel, Gris Gris, La Roche Qui Pleure, St Félix, and Macondé. Aashiv, our driver was friendly, informative, and flexible throughout the trip, following our route requests while suggesting great alternatives along the way. He also shared interesting insights about the island’s history, cultures, and festivals, making the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommended!
the person who picked us up, Saroj, was on time she was very courteous and helpful her customer service was outstanding. Her friendly personality was very excellent and warm. She explained what the tour consisted of and the history of the island and it was a pleasure to interact with her. I would strongly recommend her to anyone who visits the island and enjoy her company as much as we did. If all your tour guides are like her you will have great business for years to come and thank you for allowing us to meet her and your company.
