Devina was absolutely lovely during our tour, absolutely enjoyed the tour— she also gave a much-needed tour of not just the sugar factory but also answered our questions about Mauritius as well. Highly recommend!

An amazing tour! Our tour guide Devina was fantastic! I will love to come back!
Devina was an amazing guide. Tres bien!! Merci!
Meenakshee was one of the staff working on the rum tasting, included within the visit to the sugar factory, she was very helpful with the tasting. The museum is interesting and quite long if you were to read everything, but download the free audio tour and you can listen to it as you go around or after the visit
Devina was an excellent guide, we did the sugar cane cutting tour, which was half the price of the museum, came with a lot of information and a cool opportunity to cut and eat your own sugar cane!
Amazing experience. Our guide Devina was very friendly and knowledgeable.
Very interesting and historical visit
Explore the rich history of Mauritius, then conclude your visit with a dégustation of our homemade rhum arrangé. If you are looking to try a typical Mauritian food you can surely experience it there.
Our visit to Sugar Adventure was very informative and enjoyable. Kevin gave an excellent guided tour, explaining the history of the sugar industry in Mauritius in a clear and engaging way. The sugar tasting session led by Stella was a wonderful experience, allowing us to discover the different varieties of Mauritian sugar. Both were friendly, knowledgeable, and made the visit memorable. Thank you for the warm hospitality.
Stella and Kevin was awesome for the visit
Experienced a wonderful guided tour with Devina who explained everything in perfect detail. This is a place was was laid out very well with explanations and pictures providing great detail of the history of Mauritius and sugar. One of the best exhibits i have been to in a while
Tip top et super dégustation avec Melvin!
Very thorough history of Mauritius and sugar production. Great for adults and children alike. I honestly did not expect it to be this informative and interactive — I wish I had given myself more time to go through the exhibits . Nonetheless, I enjoyed it all and the sugar and rum tasting at the end. Thank you Roshni for the explanation of the different sugars and for the lovely chat! The owner/manager also took the time to check in on my visit — thanks! Also, I took away some unique souvenirs from the shop :) highly recommend if you’re looking to learn about Mauritius’s history and fascinating sugar production .
We had a lovely time on the tour and particularly enjoyed the rum tasting with Mevin who was just fantastic!
We didn’t book and just turned up not expecting too much but it was good. Thankfully not at all busy, and we spent 1-2 hours there. It’s quite expensive but we appreciated learning a bit more about the history. The slavery history was comprehensive and very shocking.
We really enjoyed our trip here. I’ll be honest, the history part of how sugar cane came to Mauritius & slavery has really left a lasting impression on me. Once we had a full walk around the full museum side, we went for the rum tasting & woah some were very strong! I really enjoyed the caramel one though. Great price to get in and with the audio guide on your own phone too. Great day out & would highly recommend to anyone.
Very informative and interesting experience: you got the history of Mauritius, starting with the Dutch and moving on to the French and British, slavery, indentured slavery and how sugar played its part in the history of the country. The exhibit continues with the processes of sugar production and then rum. At the end of the tour, you have the opportunity to try the local rum, different sugar and honey. It was totally worth doing this as it gives you a flavour of the country’s history and culture and if you continue touring the country, it helps to understand more who the Mauritians are today. Wear comfortable shoes and bring earphones to listen to the audio guide
Nice museum , interactive . With more information a very great place to visit with friends
This was a really well developed modern museum and we learned a lot about sugar production and the history of Mauritius. It worked well for all the family, and at the end it was nice to enjoy both the sugar tasting and rum tasting. There were also activities for kids there.
For Meenakshee: A big thank you to Meenakshee for making our visit so memorable! She greeted us with genuine warmth and took the time to walk me and my girlfriend through an amazing tasting experience. From different types of sugar to local rum, she was extremely generous and knowledgeable. Her hospitality went above and beyond—definitely a five-star service!
For Darshinee: We had an absolutely wonderful experience at the sugar factory, thanks to Darshinee! She was incredibly warm, friendly, and welcoming from the very beginning. She generously guided me and my girlfriend through a delightful tasting of various sugars and local spirits, patiently explaining everything with a smile. Her enthusiasm and kindness truly made our visit special. Highly recommended!
Meenakshee is the best advisor ever that i met in my whole life. The best sugar testing with her i truly need to thank her for everything. Truly beautiful woman.
The drive here was beautiful! The views of the landscape were incredible, mountains in the distance, and sugarcane in the fields made the drive an experience. The museum was so well done, explaining the history and diversity of the area and culture! Tasting the sugars and rum helped us understand the differences of each product. Lunch was a culinary delight! I can’t say enough about the presentation and flavors that were available! The tuna carpaccio was a highlight! Maria was an amazing server and her attention to detail was incredible. We spoke to the manager on the way out and had a lovely conversation about our experience and our love of the island!
Very rich history. The amount of information is 10 out of 10. I had visited the sugar history in both cuba or Dominican Republic, this beats them by far. There may be too much writing at times but I liked the audio guide. There was also lots of info about the period of slavery and indentured laborers. The rum tasting was a great treat. Meenakshi was a great host. My only negative point is the fact that I bought two packages of rum and 30 mins later I found the liqueurs for half the price at SuperU in grand baie. I could have got them for 950 rs at the grocery store but paid around 1850rs. Plus there were bigger bottles too at the grocery store.
Excellent museum set in most pleasant gardens. The history of how sugarcane came to Mauritius told in interesting ways. There is an audio guide but since we hadn't carried our ear phones, we didn't feel comfortable using it so as yo not disturb the other visitors. We had just finished a tour of the museum at the Apravasi Ghat, learning about the 'great experiment' of switching to using the indentured labourers post the abolishing of slavery. This gave us a good background. The story of sugar growing in Mauritius and the trade around the world is explained well. The place is clean and wheelchair friendly. I would have liked to have had some seats along the way to rest tired feet. The Boutique shop was nicely arranged but quite expensive (as all souvenir shops tend to be). The rum tasting was superb with knowledgeable lady, Meenakshi who introduced and poured rums age wise. She had good humour and went through the pouring with a nice smile and some chat. The rums are of a very good quality, especially the more aged ones. All in all, an interesting experience. Should not be missed.
Amazing experience. Lot of information of the procedure of making sugar and the history of Mauritius. Rum tasting with Varsha was amazing she is the best 🫶🏻 Big recommendation!!
Amazing fun experience with friends. Varsha was quite helpful in the rum tasting. 10/10 would recommend to do with friends.
Great experience as a Mauritian to know more about this beautiful island! The end of the tour end with a special treatment by Menakshee explaining all the variety of rum. Thank you once again for the experience
We came here on the north tour we picked . Was overpriced for what you saw . The tour itself was quite small and did not take long to go around it . Rum tasting experience, but the gift shops afterwards were expensive. Was nice to see the history on how sugar is made but only to us 45 minutes to get around
Highly recommend this museum of the Mauritius sugar industry. At first we were not too sure what to expect as it’s an old sugar refinery that’s been turned into a Museum. Well we needn’t have worried it’s been done really, really well. Informative, colourful, interesting and even entertaining. This must be one of the best museums that we’ve been to in a long time. The route is easy to follow, there are a mixture of diagrams, photos and hands on displays that cover the history of the island and how sugar became such a big part of its economy. And then at the end you can actually taste different sugars and of course taste some of the rum that’s made from the sugar. There is of course a shop, a restaurant and a pleasant gardens to also browse around. All in all a great place to visit.
First time I came it was a very good experience especially having a kids corner the advisor Devina was exceptional explaining things very well really enjoyed the experience and will come again soon
We stopped here as part of a tour of the north of the island. It is an interesting place to visit given the history of sugar production on the island and the museum is well laid out. Sampling of the sugar types and the rum products is a good way to end the tour. However, overall it is a bit pricey for what you get, although there was a discount for my daughter as she is a university student and had ID with her.
We had a good experience visiting the museum and the staff were very helpful and kind, special thx to Sheleina for the detailed explanations, and to Glenda and Devina for the heart-warming welcome. After the Museum Visit, we had the pleasure to taste the different types of Mauritian made sugars, all unrefined, savory and very high quality, special thx to Roshnee for the detailed explanation throughout this tasting venture. Afterwards we went ahead and tried the different rhums made in beau plan, from the oldest distillery still operational on the island, they were of excellent taste and very qualitative, the only distillery on the island making single estate 5 star Rhum (specific category) Special thx to Darshenee, Varsha and other staff whom were all smiles, very kind and even took our picture! We had a wholesome, memorable time at L'aventure Du Sucre, we recommend you give it a visit 💯% 100% it
A big thank you to Varsha, Darsheenee, Roshnee, Devina, Glenda, and Shaleina for this amazing testing session and visit. Your smiles and happiness were a wonderful addition to our friends' trip!
Darshinee, Roshinee, Varsha, Glenda and Devina were all incredible during our visit at l’aventure du sucre. Thx alot to the team and all the work done!
A huge congratulation and thank you to Darshinee, Varsha, Roshni, Glenda and Devina for their service, warmth and welcome. A definite recommendation!
It’s was amazingly refreshing to watch the history of Mauritius ,along with my guide Ingrid she was phenomenal in explaining everything bit by bit .It was fun tasting different flavoured sugar .But trying the seventeen kind of rum was exciting &fun ,however its was a great experience.
We visited your esteemed property today afternoon, after hearing lot of compliments from our friends. Overall our experience was quite interesting and educative. However, our interaction with Ms Dayavanti / Dayvanti, during the sugar tasting session was not at all pleasant. She was impolite, when we requested her to attend us ,she literally moved us away and told us that they are no english speaking public and I don't know till what time you will have to wait and you can go to the Honey tasting etc etc. in front of your french guests, to our suprise, she started attending another group of customers in English within the next 5 minutes. Ms Glenda from the front desk was kind enough to help us out. This has left a very unpleasant experience. Regards Ammar
Today we discovered the entire history of the island and the sugar production of Mauritius , Darshinee made it really interesting and the best part of all was the tasting of all the sugar types and delicious marmalades & honey . We truly recommend the rhum tasting which is the must !!! Thank you Darshinee for unforgettable moments
We had a fantastic tutored rum tasting with Neil and Minakshi yesterday afternoon. They presented each rum with amazing knowledge and passion and we learnt so much whilst having great fun. This is an experience we would recommend to anyone visiting Mauritius! 5*
Very helpful people and amazing staff, they explained everything to me since it was the first time for me, I really recommend you to visit this place. Meenakshee & Natasha they was really helpful and supporter even we asked alot. For sure I’ll visit this place again and enjoy the vibes over their.
We had a fantastic day as a family enjoying the museum and taking part in cane cutting and cocktail making experience. It was so interesting, super fun and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. We learnt lots and our children 8,6,3 loved every bit! Thank you all so much!
L'Aventure du Sucre is a bit on the pricier side compared to other museums in Mauritius, but after visiting, we completely understand why it costs a bit more. It’s definitely worth the price for what you get in return. Upon arrival, you're prompted to download an app with an audio guide, which is a great touch. The app guides you through every area of the museum, providing insightful commentary on the history and significance of Mauritius and its sugar cane industry. It’s incredibly informative and makes the whole experience feel interactive and engaging. The museum itself is huge, and takes you on a fascinating journey through the evolution of the sugar industry, which has played such a crucial role in shaping the island’s economy and culture. You’ll get to explore various exhibits, some of which feature real sugar cane you can try, allowing you to connect with the history on a more sensory level. For a relatively small island, this museum is impressive—on par with some of the museums you'd find in much larger countries. It’s clear a lot of thought has gone into the curation, and the quality of the exhibits is top-notch. The space is well laid out and offers a comprehensive look into Mauritius’s sugar industry, from its early days to its current status. If you're interested in learning about the history and cultural significance of sugar production in Mauritius, L'Aventure du Sucre is a must-visit. It offers an informative and well-rounded experience, making it one of the standout museums on the island.
Very nice visit. Personal very professional. The story of mauritius, how the country was constructed and sugar industry
We came here 20 years ago and it was good then, 20 years later and it’s even better! Bigger, more exhibits, more history, more information all well thought out and presented brilliantly. I highly recommend everyone to come here and learn about the history of Mauritius and really the world as was over the past 400 years or so. 2-3 hours in my opinion is not quite enough time especially if you’re going to have something to eat in the fabulous restaurant on site and also enjoy the gift shop with its rum and sugar tasting ! My suggestion … this is also close to the botanical gardens … you can drive here very easily or get a bus to very close to either - see one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Or get a taxi to one - walk between them and then a taxi back - go freestyle a little bit! As an aside - 20 years ago it was funny watching my 9 year old son trying to lift one of the sacks on the mock up barge that the labourers back in the day used to throw around loading and unloading - now 29 and a big burly rugby player he was determined to show how ‘easy’ it would be to lift the heavy sack - he still struggled a little and admitted it would be a hard life doing that all day every day!!!
Sugarcane and allied industries is the main source of revenue of Mauritius. One gets to see the equipment and the process of sugar manufacturing, although it's no longer manufactured in this factory. One also gets to read the history of Mauritius. At the end the rum testing and sugar testing experience was very good and unique. We liked the cafe flavoured and vanilla flavoured rum.
This is a good day out, especially if you are trying to find something to do indoors (rain etc). We travelled here actually trying to go to the distillery as we thought that was separate to the museum. It isn’t. We paid entry and walked around. It was good but as others have said very text heavy and my husband and I did skip a few due to it just being too much. Good activity to do though and several videos around. I have seen lots of people say you can have the audio for this and we didn’t realise but would have certainly done that if we knew! Rum tasting was like 5 minutes if that and you got to taste 4 rums and then the man just left and was like ‘have a nice holiday’ so…. If you are going hoping that’s a large part of the experience it really isn’t. We wanted to buy a rum but couldn’t find it and nobody staff wise really tried to help so we went to a supermarket to buy it. Good to do if bored but room for improvement/don’t expect too much.
We enjoyed our visit to L'Aventure du Sucre - particularly when we were inside due to the fierce sun! Lovely buildings and we had a short tour and short rum tasting. Interesting to see the old buildings and understand the processes. Good shop with souvenirs and bottles of rum!
No tour guide in the museum, we aren’t really a museum fans already But sugar taste, darshinee is gorgeous lovely presentative well qualified presenter ❤️
An exceptional experience awaits at this comprehensive museum. Time flies as one wanders this historic complex where exceptional care has been taken to ensure working machinery, interactive displays, and captivating exhibits. Thoroughly researched and fun to engage with. Highly commended. We opted for the self guided tour. The sugar and rum tasting at the end are superb. Great service, thanks Roshne. Merchandising of the sugar products is excellent. Ideal for a superb experience filed with history and wonder.
