We had a wonderful morning to early afternoon walking tour of Silk Island. Mon, our tour guide, was excellent - friendly, knowledgeable, relaxed & perfectly suited for my daughter & me - great work Mon & a behind the scenes/local perspective into the life of those living on the island! Would highly recommend!

From there, we head to charming local villages, where you'll take a leisurely stroll to experience the rhythm of local life and visit a vibrant wet market. As we continue, immerse yourself in the lush countryside, passing through a variety of plantations, including mango, banana, corn, and lemongrass farms. After a refreshing break at a village, we hop back on our Tuk Tuk (Romork) to witness the intricate art of sedge mat weaving, a traditional craft practiced by villagers along the Mekong River. The adventure continues with stops at serene paddy fields and picturesque lotus farms before we arrive at a silk weaving workshop, where you'll marvel at the skill and dedication behind this timeless craft. This journey offers a perfect blend of culture, nature, and authentic local experiences!
After a refreshing break and a meaningful connection with local artisans at the silk weaving workshop, we continue our Tuk Tuk adventure to Silk Island. Here, you’ll explore the lush ginger and vegetable farms and visit a local business where bean curd, a staple ingredient in Cambodian dishes like soups and stir-fried noodles, is produced. As we journey across the island, we’ll stop at a serene Buddha monastery to delve into the rich spiritual traditions and learn more about religion in Cambodia. To complete the experience, enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner at a local restaurant, savoring authentic flavors. Finally, we take a scenic ferry ride back and return you to your hotel in Phnom Penh, leaving you with unforgettable memories of this unique cultural journey.

We had an amazing trip to silk island and surrounding areas. Our guide Nairth was the best we could ask for. He explained everything we were seeing and took us many places in the villages.
Narith was a fabulous guide. He took us to places most tourists don't see and we sampled local foods! He was friendly fun and had lots of knowledge. Our driver was very safe and helpful too
Such a wonderful experience with comfortable ride to silk farm and cooperative. Our driver was most friendly and helpful.

We enjoyed every second from going on the boat all around the island we also got to see how beancurd was made as well as where water Lotus and rice patties are we got to sample from street vendors many local fruits saw ginger fields and had the most incredible time we are so grateful to our awesome guide narith and driver
Our guide was very helpful and informative. He tailored the day to suit our plans and couldn’t do enough to help us- it really made our day. So much more than I expected and so glad we fitted in this final trip before we travelled home that afternoon - amazing experience- a must do activity
Great place to get out of the city.
A very interesting insight into rural life away from the city. Tuk tuk ride across the city to the river ferry and then around several islands to see the locals in their lovely friendly villages
Interesting to see life in the countryside and so close to the city. Seeing a silk scarf lifecycle from cocoon, weaving to finished product. Lunch by the river was relaxing and tasty.
Wonderful afternoon on Silk Island. Great to be in the countryside. Really interesting visit to the silk farm and a quick stop at a place making tofu skin. Stopped at a beautifully painted nun temple. Lovely meal by the river as the sun set. Mon, our guide, was friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend this trip to escape the hustle of the city.
Traveling through Phnom Penh and the Silk and Mekong islands with Suk Mon and Chhel was an unforgettable experience. Suk Mon served as our guide, bringing deep knowledge, thoughtful explanations, and a spirit of adventure to every stop. His ability to connect us with the rhythms of Cambodian life, whether introducing us to silk weavers, explaining the interdependence of family businesses, or guiding us through sunbaked villages, made the journey both educational and inspiring. Alongside him, Chhel, an experienced tuk tuk driver and proud grandfather of three, navigated the bustling streets of Phnom Penh and the quiet paths of the islands with remarkable skill and warmth. Together, they created a seamless balance: Suk Mon as the storyteller and cultural interpreter, and Chhel as the trusted navigator who carried us safely and comfortably between city and countryside. Highlights included distinguishing between different herbs, medicinal plants, and crops, on local farms, learning about silk and cotton weaving, visiting soybean producers, and enjoying a delicious lunch at a floating restaurant on Mekong Island, complete with fresh coconut water and hammocks by the river. Thanks to their guidance and care, we witnessed firsthand the many ways families sustain themselves and contribute to Phnom Penh, leaving us with memories of not just a tour, but a heartfelt connection to Cambodian life.
Really enjoyed this tour. Only 2 of us on it and it made the itinerary a little more flexible. You get a great insight to local customs and way of life. The temples are spectacular and we were the only ones there! Lunch on the floating restaurant was huge and tasty. An excellent tour all round
What a great experience to see the local sights from a Tuk tuk ! Our driver was excellent and our guide was so friendly and knowledgeable. From the bumpy roads to the rickety bridge to lunch the whole tour was amazing from start to finish. Most definitely recommend!
I really love the trip my guide was perfect. He is witty, he explains about the journey and he provided a very tailored trip to myself, skipping sights that I am not keen and staying on and introducing things I enjoyed
Loved every part of our day! Our Tuk tuk driver and guide (Mon) were so friendly and helpful. The stall holders at the market were engaging and friendly. I enjoyed tasting rice cakes wrapped in banana leaves. My friend and I both loved the talented silk craftswomen who welcomed us to their home, taught us how to spin silk and use the manual loom to make scarves. We enjoyed beautiful locally grown fruit and came away with beautiful scarves for ourselves, family and friends. It was an enjoyable educational experience. We saw a machine operated loom which was much noisier than the earlier loom, tried tofu skin and visited temples with Buddhist monks and another with Buddhist nuns. We also interacted with local villagers and enjoyed a delicious lunch with a beautiful view over the water. I am coeliac so can’t eat gluten and am happy to report that Mon ensured my food was safe for me. Loved everything about our day and this was all due to our lovely Tuk tuk driver and guide. I have no hesitation recommending them. Thanks for a wonderful day out 🙏👏🙌♥️
We thoroughly enjoyed our Silk Island / Countryside tour with Narith and Simon. It was great to get out of PP to get a glimpse of how locals live daily. We experienced ferry crossings, tofu skin manufacturing, grass mat weaving, silk production and weaving, fresh fruit tasting, rice, taro and lemongrass fields, mango trees, local foods at lunchtime and more. Thank you!
Very knowledgeable and personable guides. Would highly recommend. Learned a lot about the people and their culture and about the food they grow and the dishes they make and eat. And meant some very warm and welcoming people.
I totally love my guide Narith. He was sincere, observant and witty. We had a good trip from the moment we met at my hotel lobby. It’s great that he worked in the fields when he was younger so he was able to explain the workings of the farm as we went through the fields and plantation.
My wife and I live in Cambodia (Siem Reap) but wanted to take a tour with visiting family because it's just easier and a great way to see things you would otherwise miss on your own or just getting a generic tuktuk driver. First off, our guide Knut was incredible and made us feel welcomed and cared for the entire time. He answered all of our questions, took us behind the scenes in rural areas to see the real Cambodia, had us laughing, and is just the nicest dude you'll ever meet. The tour itself is hands down one of the best bang for your buck experiences I've taken. Round trip transport, all expenses included, and even a meal at the end? Yeah, it's a steal! Not to mention a super authentic experience all around. I don't love Phnom Penh so this was a great way to get out of the city and into nature, meet locals, and learn about how people outside the city live day to day life. It's a great experience for families, couples, solo travellers etc and I think everyone who takes this tour will walk away with a deeply enriching cultural experience. Again, cheers Knut, you're the man!
Narith was an excellent guide who immersed us in the insights of Cambodia. We visited many local businesses, from small silk and cotton enterprises to a pagoda and a skin tofu factory. Everything was well-planned, and he took great care of us, always ensuring that we understood all the information.
Wonderful half day exploring areas outside of the city! Great tour guide & skillful tuk-tuk driver picked us up & dropped us off right from our hotel, and provided us with some wonderful experiences in the nearby countryside, including a delicious lunch. We would highly recommend!
This is the tour to take!! The guide was amazing and.knowledgeable and the tour was incredible. If you want a glimpse into life outside of Phnom Pehn this is it. He has thought of all the details to ensure the tour exceeds expectations. This tour is a great way to start or end your trip and the lunch location is so peaceful and offered amazing local cuisine. Our group cannot say enough good things about this tour! It is a must do!!
Wow today was an incredible outing away from the bustling business of Phnom Penh. We enjoyed ferry rides, tours through farm land, many fruit, eggplant, lemon grass, corn, rice paddies, and of course the magical world of silk, a shared meal, shared fruit. Our Tuk Tuk driver did a great job all the day and Sey our guide was very informative, funny, kind and gentle. This tour has been a highlight for us.
What a great tour , we had Mr Thong as our tour guide, best tour we have done so far and unforgettable experience. Mr Thong is extremely noligeable and passionate about Cambodia and its people and his English is very good. The tour started at 7:30 am and finished at 1:30 pm. We toured 3 island, met with many local villagers who were all so lovely, it is amazing how lovely and accepting the locals are , inviting complete strangers in to there homes and with the biggest smiles made us felt very welcome. We learnt about harvesting rice, making silk, making of grass mats as well as local farmers and how the sell there produce at the markets. The restaurant we stopped at for lunch was delicious 10 out of 10
Hong our guide and Yap our driver took great care of us. Hong has a great amount of enthusiasm for his country and its culture which only added to the experience. Highly recommend this tour of Silk Island and what it is all about. Also Hong is an avid for photographer which made the tour more interesting if you happen to be a fellow shutterbug.
Starting with the ferry ride over the Mekong River, it was an extraordinary day. From the vibrant sights & smells in the local market, to fantastic hand woven colorful floor mats, to the labor intensive process of silkworm production & intricate weaving on wooden looms & finally the manufacture of bead curd in the grueling heat, we were awed by the incredible talent & industry of the Cambodian people. A great experience which we highly recommend!
A great time was had by us. Very good and informative tour guide. Loved the tuk tuk ride around the village. Enjoyed the ferry rides, grasshopper farm, mat making, and the silk weavers factory. Very cool checking out the silk worms! Yummy lunch and chill out on the floating Hut. It was a very enjoyable tour. Thank you!
Catching and using a Tuk-tuk is a lovely way to see the island and explore around the Silk Centre. If travelling from Phnom Penh you will need to catch a ferry across to the island. The ferry runs frequently and the tuk-tuk driver drives you onto the barge/boat (ferry) while you're transported across the river.
Thong (our guide) met us early directly at the hotel, he was extremely friendly and spoke good English. We started the 2.30pm arvo tour feeling exceptionally comfortable and safe. We hopped in our tuk tuk with driver Tran (also lovely) and headed to Silk Island across multiple ferries. Thong was an exceptional guide and took the time to explain about the farmers, their farming methods and their produce, of course silk weaving, & how bean curd is made (foreigners should never again complain about their work office conditions!), the curd is made 24x7 and rotated by family members on watch. Thong was extremely helpful and patient with our many cultural questions and observant of our needs (WC, water etc), and even made a quick stop when we showed interest in home made donuts on the side of the street (ps, delicious by the way). We cannot recommend Thong highly enough of Vana Adventure Travel (his own company), he truly is inspirational of his knowledge and care for the Cambodian people! This was the best trip we had during our 2wk stay across Vietnam and Cambodia. Thank you Thong.
The guide was great. He told us about the local Cambodian culture. The ferry ride on the Mekong was memorable. We visited. colourful local markets and a silk farm where they showed us how to spin silk. And showed us how the silkworms are harvested to make silk. We walked through a village and had local Cambodian lunch on a floating restaurant. We loved it.
This tour was great! We went out of Phnom Penh by tuk tuk and spent the afternoon visiting various islands and seeing a range of rural lifestyles and crafts. We also visited a couple of beautiful temples and a nunnery which were amazing, then finished up with dinner at a local restaurant. Our guide was really wonderful and was so helpful making the day work out well for us. Driving on and off the various ferries in a tuk tuk was hilarious, and the whole experience was just one of the best things I’ve ever done in SE Asia.
We booked this tour on a last minute, but it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. The tour takes you to see non touristy part of Phnom Penh, from the ferry used by commuters through ride through small villages and through fields and visit of local temple. Our guide and tuk tuk driver were both very friendly. Guide was very knowledgable and willing to share information about Cambodia, which showed his love of his country. Dinner at the local restaurant overlooking the river, was very peaceful and tasteful. It was a perfect tour to get closer to real Cambodia.
An incredible day with Thong Chea our tour guide and founder of Vana Adventure Travel and Yat our tuk tuk driver. After a short and picturesque view of Phonm Penh crossing of the Mekong River, we arrived at one of the islands on the trip. Throughout the day, Thong took us through the countryside, stopping at rice, water-lily and ginger fields explaining how the families own the fields, how they sow, grow and rotate crops throughout the year. we even got to smell fresh ginger leaves. We stopped off at one to the silk makers homes and had some fruit snacks before given a tour and watched silk scarves being made and how the process from silkworm to product is done. We drove through many small villages on the tuk tuk, sampling life on the islands. And walked around a lovely pagoda temple on one of the islands. Thong took us to a place by the river, owned by a family and we had lunch on a floating dining area on the river. The food was amazing and we had our first taste of Krud beer, which was light and very tasty. We drove some more around the wonderful countryside and crossing islands. It was a hot day, but cooler than the city, but there was plenty of cold water to drink onboard the tuk tuk. It was a delightful, informative and fun day out of the city. Highly recommend booking this trip. Thong was a fantastic guide and we asked about him and his family and he had a fascinating story to tell. A highlight of out holiday in Cambodia.
This was a fantastic tour of the country side of silk island in Phnom Penh. We were picked up by our tour guide and owner Mr Thong Chea, and driven safely by our Tuk tuk driver. We got to catch a ferry across to Silk Island seeing the area around the river. The tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and shared a lot with us about the area, farms and Cambodia history. We visited a family run silk farm where we had fresh fruits and steamed cake. We were shown the process of how silk is made and weaved, we even got to have a try at weaving. We saw many farms along the way of bananas, taro, ginger and rice. We found the family owned soya bean curd business and saw the process of making the curd, and getting to taste some also. Finally we enjoyed a lunch on a relaxing floating restaurant. A great way to finish off an excellent tour. Highly recommend this tour to see the countryside.
I had no idea the process involved in producing a silk scarves or sarongs. It’s so complicated and takes so much patience. It makes me appreciate the product more knowing now that so much work is put into producing it.
Terrible experience! To start with the ‘guide’—not knowledgeable and professional at all. He was more interested in our country than sharing any knowledge about Cambodia. The silk farm was not a farm at all! Two or three ladies pretended they were working and producing silk when they saw us coming, selling as if it were locally produced, but actually storing packets of ready-made scarfs. Dinner was awful. How can you take tourists to such a dirty, disgusting place? They brought crockery with ants, and the guide and the driver, who were sharing the dinner with us, couldn’t manage to clear the cutlery and plates. Not a word to the waitress! Then the food—awful, with ants and wasps inside! Avoid the company by all means!
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Silk Island with our interesting and well spoken guide and careful tuk tuk driver. Our visit to the small family run silk ‘farm’ and weavers was low key and educational and there was no pressure to buy if you didn’t want to. But the examples of lovely scarves and table runners was impossible to resist. We also were impressed by the family run soya bean curd business. We enjoyed our journey around the islands and on the ferries and had a wonderful dinner on a floating restaurant - again, very low key but perfect for the peace and quiet and quality of food. Highly recommend this tour to see another side of Cambodian life that tourists rarely experience - so near to the big city but feels so far away.
Tida was such an enthsiastic and knowledgeable ambassador for her country. She is passionate about local food and local enterprise. The tuk tuk was clean and well maintained.
Throng is a wonderful guide! Great experience exploring the island with a authentic (and delicious) Khmer dinner. Tour included a visit to silk farm, bean curd producer, buddhist temple and passing through farms of the island. Tour could be condensed since we didn’t stop at any of the farms just passed through. Overall, great experience and would recommend.
Great tour! Highly recommend this tour for anyone that wants to see life outside of the urban areas of Phnom Penh. Mr. Chea Thong was very knowledgable, friendly, accommodating and prepared!
We had an amazing day with our tour guide Narith. He was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and able to answer all of our questions about the local area and life in Cambodia. The tour is well organized and a great chance to get out of the busy city and see what life is like on silk island.
Our guide Narith did an excellent job showing us around, giving us the history of the culture and the sites we were visiting.
My parents and I really enjoyed the trip to silk island, away from the hustles and bustles of Phonm pehn. Our tour guide Mr Pi, was awesome! He was very helpful, caring, knowledgeable and speaks good english. We thank him for showing us his island with so much dedication. It was amazing to discover the life of people there through Pi. We enjoyed the fruit plantation, the pagoda temple, the traditional silk weaving and soybean factory visit! We also had a great relaxing traditional dinner by the river. Akun!
This tour was amazing. The truck driver and the guy were awesome. The guide spoke pretty good English and answered all my questions. The cambodian meal was very good.
I cannot say enough amazing things about my experience with Thong and his travel company. I booked a TukTuk silk island tour. Communication was straight forward and timely. Thong is kind, engaging and informative. He asked about food restrictions and checked in regularly as it was 100 degrees for most of the tour. He’s easy to talk to and eager to educate about Cambodia culture and learn about yours. We toured farm lands, some temples, bean curd sheet making shop, a local market and ended with a fabulous meal on a river floating restaurant. I felt completely at ease as a solo traveler. I recommend his tours to anyone wanting an authentic Cambodian experience. ** side note** remember to bring newish or new bills if paying if in American dollars.
It was beautiful to go on the back roads to get to the silk island and silk factory, the tour was excellent, the prices are super affordable when you buy on site, 1/3 to 1/5 of what you pay in the airport, just make sure you take a tuk-tuk with really good suspension. Ours had no suspension and ouch my back.
I would highly recommend this trip. It was great to see bits of the countryside and have Thong explain local agriculture, religion and culture. The silk weaving was fascinating. The stop to see how a local family makes bean curd was also a highlight. Thong is a very thoughtful and articulate guide.
Our tour guide made the whole trip very smooth and very enjoyable . Great meal on the mekong river...
Both Ravuth the guide and Tia the driver were excellent and went out of their way to ensure we saw and did all we wished to do. They were both kind and we felt safe in their care. The tour operator
The island is very small and had a rural feeling. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the plants and crops grown in the area. Seeing the silk production was a highlight. We would highly recommend this excursion.
