Wonderful evening. Yi was a mine of information and introduced us to many Cambodian culinary delights. Was a fantastically authentic goody evening

It started well. Phat arrived on time and we headed off to the Tuk-tuk, fortunately the group was small and we all fitted. However, as it was the Chinese New Year most local family food restaurants were shut. In fact, we ended up visiting only one on the list – another two were rustled up, almost at random as we passed by, with Phat asking them as we slowed down whether they were open. The tour promised to eat like a local and it was true to its word, we sat on tiny chairs in the street, eating what ever that course was. However, what was missing, was information about the food, its origins and history. Phat told me the cost was about $2 a course. We seemed to be finding the cheapest standard food around, I was expecting to find some real nuggets and maybe engage with the local cooks. We were through three courses in 90 minutes and then spent 20 mins beetling down the road in the tuk to the Russian market for a stall which sold desserts, but of course that was closed. It really would have been good to phone ahead! The promise of unlimited beers never materialised (I was asked once) but that was minor. In the end, I suggested that rather than go for our last course, which was billed as “cocktails” in a high rise, (which might not be open) we adjourned to a Cambodian craft brewery, which is how the tour ended. Although Phat was apologetic, this wasn’t a good experience. The food was unremarkable, of dubious quality and not the evening I expected. The next day, I wasn’t well. It was memorable for the wrong reasons, the best bit was the beer! We were all done in just over two hours and this included about 60 minutes of cumulative transport time. Trip Advisor suggested that the tour would take four hours. The cost is £55 per person, so at this price, expectations are high and when delivery is so poor, it leaves a bad taste.
Nice trip to do. Worth doing as we would not have found or eaten in the places. Food was very good and guide was a nice guy.
A fantastic way to see a lot of the city and try some authentic foods with a brilliant guide (Pat). We were driven round in a tuk tuk and sampled food in 5 restaurants finishing with a cocktail and a view at the Sundowner Social club. This was such a good way to spend our first night in Phnom Penh to get to know the area and pick up lots of tips. All of the restaurants were clean and there were plenty of vegetarian options and huge amounts of food! Pat was friendly, highly knowledgeable and great fun!! We would highly recommend this tour especially if you are only in Phnom Penh for a short time.
We had a great evening with Lee and 1 other couple, exploring Phnom Penh’s food scene and its Russian night market. Lee has a wealth of knowledge about his country, the city and, of course, food. He was informative, insightful and fun! We made 5 scheduled stops in total, travelling by tuk-tuk, which was a great way to get around. And, if we spied something that looked interesting while we were on the go, Lee would pop out and get us a taste. This was much appreciated and very generous of him. We chose this tour because it seemed to have the greatest focus on offering a variety of food and to offer the widest range of eating experiences. Lee delivered perfectly! The tour was well-organised and everything worked seamlessly. Plenty of water and beer was available. We ended our evening in a charming sky bar overlooking the Russian market, for cocktails. Highly recommended.
Great night out on a traditional Tuk Tuk, food was all amazing, loved all the seafood. Guide Chhunly was super chatty and fun. Loved seeing Phnom Penh after dark. Highly recommend tour for a fun night out.
A wonderful way to experience local food at its best , and avoiding the expensive commercialised places that cater for tourists. Mr Lee was so obliging and helpful and structured the tour so well
Get amongst the truly authentic local food scene on this perfectly curated and expertly guided food tour. Lee, our guide, not only delivered on the culinary experience but he also provided some great insights to how the friendly folk of Cambodia live and enjoy life. Central to that is the wonderful food they enjoy. Do this tour, it’s a great way to introduce yourself to Khmer culture and cuisine, and getting the best out of Phnom Penh.
Great tour with Phat. We are only in PP for 24hrs, so wanted to try and get to the heart of the local food scene. Phat was excellent (as was the tuc tuc driver) we visited many family run local restaurants and tried a variety of local dishes. On our own we would have never tried all these places and foods, although we avoided insects etc!! We finished walking around a night market, where all the traders were preparing many different food, fish, duck, sweets etc, and a cocktail at a ‘sky bar’ over the market. Phat was great talking to us about many aspects of life in PP and wider Cambodia.
Lee was an enthusiastic and very friendly guide, and this was a brilliant introduction to Khmer food, how to flavour it and how to eat it. He took us to long established restaurants known for their quality rice noodles, rice pancakes and fried noodles, and then for three main course dishes. All were delicious and we also squeezed in a walk around near the Independence Monument. Beer and water were freely available throughout. The biggest eye opener was the street traders around the Russian Market where we were shown foods you would never see in the West being sold in decidedly unhygienic conditions, but a great experience nevertheless. The only negative were the deserts. They didn't appeal, but we still tried them just in case we were wrong... We weren't!! We finished the evening with cocktails in a sky bar overlooking the street traders around Russian Market before being whisked back to our hotel by our ever attentive and careful Tuc Tuc driver. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would recommend doing this 4hr tour with Lee.
Wonderful evening learning about and tasting Cambodian food. Yi is an excellent guide. You do not want to miss this experience of the locations and menu choices. Highly recommend! Joan C. USA
The great guide took us to fantastic local establishments I would never have found on my own. Convenient, fun transport that lets you feel the city. A delight at every stop. Skip lunch that day!
Our guide, Phat was great, very courteous. Experiencing life with the locals is the best way to see a new country. The price was worth it.
We had some delicious food in authentic restaurants where the locals go. Our guide was really knowledgeable and made the whole evening great fun. A great experience!
Just awesome! Great food, great guide, beautiful places 😎 Make sure you come on a empty belly, as you don’t want to miss out on anything!
I always choose some food tours for any place I go to, even if I have been there before. I love seeing and tasting a city through a local’s eyes and tastebuds. I didn’t realise my stay in Cambodia almost completely overlapped with a public holiday that would mean that many places closed down, so I was very lucky to get to go on tour with Yi and Kingdom of Wanderlust Cambodia! Yi showed me yummy local dishes that I never would have been able to pick on my own as there are far too many vendors and too many options to choose from. :-) Everything was fresh and delicious and even though the food was great, I think I enjoyed the stories even more! Yi’s knowledge of history, food, and culture is impressive and I felt like I learned a lot. He was also happy to share personal experiences of his life and travels and I felt like I was hanging out with a new friend. :-) I will definitely be in touch on my next trip to Cambodia to discuss your tours in other places! Thank you again for such a fun night! :-)
Lee was a very informative and fun tour guide. He took us to 5 different places - each excellent in their own way. Our teenage sons loved all the food and we thought the quality of the food was exceptional and the explanations of both the food and general Cambodian culture were amazing. Thank you Lee for making it a great evening. Come hungry!! We highly recommend.
This gave you a great smorgasbord of Cambodian food, as well as insight into how Cambodians enjoy their food and their lives in general. You'll travel to several spots by tuk tuk which you probably wouldn't find on your own and try a range of great foods from noodle soups to bahn xeo to curry. You end up at a dessert stall at the market where you'll learn about the various desserts and pick some to try at an out of the way bar with a great view. Well worth it.
We did the tour with Sok last night. He was a terrific humble, funny guide & as we were the only 2 on the tour it felt very personable. Foodie Tour Menu: - Chicken noodles (think Thai green) - Chicken curry (red) with noodles & condiments - Pancakes with pork & salads - The local insect, weird eggs & frogs selection (we passed on that) 🐜🦗🦟🪲🪳🐛🐸 - Beef Noodles (they were my fav) - Night market tour - Royal Palce photo op - Desserts - I had sago pudding in condensed milk & Mr had the coconut cake. - Finished tour off with drinks at a great little bar. 🍸🍺 We loved it all 😋😋🛺🥢 Highly recommended to all. You won't go hungry or thirsty. 🍺 THANK YOU Sok (Mr Friday 😂) 🙏😘
Our guide was amazing! He had great personal stories he shared with us about the food and his family. He knew and shared the history of the country. The food was excellent and interesting. Double thumbs up! Highly recommend to anyone with either a long or short time in the city.
Very knowledgeable and nice guide. Knows places that I would never have found by myself. And the cambodian cuisine is very fresh and tasty, it doesn’t fall back behind the vietnamese cuisine at all and is nonetheless still under the international radar. I highly recommend this tour to get acquainted with it!
The tour was great! Our guide spoke great English, and really showed us around town. We went during Lunar New Year, so not everything was open, but our guide adjusted on the fly and made it a great outing. We finished at the Russian Market and a nice cocktail bar. Highly recommend it!
A great introduction to Phnom Penh's people and food - also a lovely way to see the city. Food was awesome, and venues were carefully selected for both variety and high quality. Really lovely evening that lasted 3.5 - 4hrs. Thank you!!
This was a fun experience that brought us to numerous delicious street food locations. I would recommend this tour to anyone want to experience they great flavors or Phnom Penh.
Our Authentic food tour by locals was a great introduction to Cambodian food. Our tour guide, Pat, did a fantastic job of explaining the local food and feeding us, as well as being a tour guide on the various sights we passed by on our Tuk Tuk. You do not go hungry on this tour, so be prepared with a large appetite. Highly recommend.
We had a great evening with Phat. He took us by Tuk Tuk to 6 places where the food was some of the best we ate in our trip to Cambodia. A fun way to spend an evening and a great way to find out more about this wonderful country. Phat handled our dietary restrictions and allergies really well. Highly recommend.
We had such a great time with Phat, our guide, and the other people we met on the tour. We wanted to try authentic Cambodian food but we weren’t sure where to go so it was great to have someone guide us. All of the food was delicious and it was very convenient to have the Remorque driver take us everywhere. I would recommend to anyone new to Cambodia :) Phat also spoke great English!
We arrived at Phnom Penh on the afternoon and decided to book this food tour at the last minute…and we’ve been very satisfied! Yi and his driver came to pick us up at our hotel with a typical tuk tuk and took us around the city, tasting 6 different kind of dishes. We liked all a lot, especially the Nom Banh Chuk, the rice pancake and the Chinese noodles, Lot Char. Moreover Yi explained us a lot of things about the history and the present of Cambodia, that we really appreciated. we highly recommend this food tour!
Yi was an incredible tour guide. He’s done a ton of research to identify places with the best representation of Khmer food — and it really shows. He made the experience fun, easy and unforgettable. One of our best experiences in Phnom Penh so far.
Yi was wonderful in sharing his knowledge and personal background of his country's local cuisine. We're also sightseeing as our tuk tuk wisks us all over town to various places to eat! All wonderful, all safe, and not your typical tourist spots.
A truly fantastic experience, and a highlight of our trip to Phnom Penh. Li guided us through an exploration of Khmer food sharing the history of the dishes. The tour includes a variety of dishes featuring those traditionally eaten in both rural and urban areas. These street food vendors are clearly at the top of their game! Li is gracious, interesting and informative. A must do.
Yi was ready and waiting for me as soon as I left my hotel lobby! We travelled by Tuk Tuk to six or seven different food spots around the city. We were offered many different dishes and desserts from around locally owned businesses away from tourist areas. All the food was delicious and the shop owners were friendly and welcoming. At the last stop, we were offered a choice of cocktails to drink with our desserts in the setting of a quiet rooftop bar with a view of the skyline and market. Also, Cambodian beer comes with a nice catch! Pull the tab to open the can, and if you're lucky, you win a free beer and can exchange the winning ring pull at a shop to get your free beer....so, if you are a lucky person you may end up drinking a brewery full!!! Yi was a great host who told us the history of the food and ingredients as we sat down to eat. He made us feel very welcome with his friendly attitude and was always smiling and joking. It is a great idea to do this tour if you want a unique and cultured experience. Well done Yi!!!
Great tour! The owner was our guide. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and the perfect host to show us Phnom Pehn. Lots of unique and excellent street food dishes in bustling local establishments. Dessert and drinks at the rooftop bar was the perfect ending. Thanks!
We had such a fun time on our food tour with Yi! We have done a few food tours in different Asian countries but this was definitely the best! Every dish was delicious ...we were so full by the cocktail bar at the end! Yi was super knowledgeable, funny and engaging and we really enjoyed his company and learning about Cambodian food and more. Yi was also very flexible on the food options as we had allergies in our group, he also took us to an insect stand as our 11 year old was keen to try tarantula!
Everything about this tour was spot on. We thought a food tour would be a great way to get acquainted with the city. Pat took us to all the best street food restaurants and everything we ate was delicious. It's an authentic experience and a great way to see the city at night. Pat was very knowledgeable and couldn't have been more helpful. You can see he really loves his job. Many thanks for a great night.
Must do to understand Cambodia. Food has a story to tell . What they eat and why they eat. Big influence of neighbors.
It was a wonderful experience, and I got to try a variety of real Khmer food. It was hard for me to decide which was my favorite because they were all so wonderful. Yi, the guide, is incredibly polite and hospitable and has lots of anecdotes and background information to provide about each dish. At the conclusion, he also brought us out for drinks at a classy rooftop bar, where we carried on our conversation and finished the dessert. Everyone traveling to Cambodia should do his tour, and you should eat a lot before the tour because there is a lot of cuisine to sample.
I really enjoyed the local cambodian food. all the five stops was so authentic and delicious. the tour guide so informative friendly and knowledge about he country.
Phat was my tour guide, very friendly and passionate. He explained not only food, but also told me about the connection of local people with the dishes. The foods were absolutely beautiful. Once I asked if I can see "Prahok(Cambodian fermented fish used as a seasoning)", he kindly asked the restaurant and had me a chance to experience the smell of the "Prahok". I was amazed by his hospitality. I really enjoyed the food and the talk with Phat. Thank you for the wonderful experience!
Yi’s tour was excellent. The places he took me to were definitely local spots and the food was superb. He has a vast knowledge of not only the food culture of Cambodia, but also the culture of the region in general. I highly recommend for anyone coming to Phnom Penh.
Great food tour, i especially love the 'Cambodian Rice Pancake' that is stuffed with minced meat and bean sprouts (where i managed to buy a jar of wonderful garlic pickles). Yi himself is a great guide, fluent in english, and just know where all the good local foods are. Five out of five.
Yi was very personable, passionate about food, and knowledgeable about Cambodian food. This was our first night in Cambodia and it was thoroughly enjoyable. Each course was better than the other.
The guide was friendly and pleasant, however, the food and drinks were not. One of the restaurants was a seafood restaurant but I couldn't order any of those seafood dishes. So, I paid out of my own pocket to taste one. The total amount of food and drinks was about $15 max, but I paid $67 for the tour. Very disappointing.
Great experience. The food was authentic and delicious but take note, there is a lot of food, so dont have a big lunch beforehand. Good experience for solo or group travellers and ends with a great cocktail overlooking the night market. Would recommend and do again with friends next time im in town.
It was an excellent tour! Everything was as stated, if not more so. Authentic and delicious food was served throughout. The evening will be capped up with a martini at a rooftop bar overlooking the Russian Market and lots of variety! The city was a terrific nighttime tour thanks to the entertaining and exciting Tuk Tuk transportation. The journey's high point!
Best Friday Night Ever! I had an amazing time hopping around Phnom Penh with our guide. Amazing food, good drinks and best of all…. great conversation! I highly recommend this tour…you will not be disappointed!
Very nice experience. Plenty of local food, more than one can eat, and all quite good. We had 5 “dinnner” including a sweet one. Then cocktail at a bar overlooking night market. Very enjoyable night.
This is a great tour for those foodie who wants to try local cuisine. YI is awesome. Not only did he bring us nice food, he also gave a historical and cultural background to the food choices and the lifestyle of the Cambodians. Recommend.
We really enjoyed our food tour with Yi. He was friendly and knowledgeable about not only food but all things Cambodia. The tour took us to some great places to eat around the city, ending at a cocktail bar with desert. I would highly recommend this tour.
Good exposure to local food; great guide Yi. Nice to finish at rooftop bar with a cocktail! Relatively pricey compared to other food tours we did.
