We had booked an evening food tour with another company, but 2 days before it was going to happen, they cancelled because of the Pchum Benh holiday. I found Sam online and asked about his food tour. Despite the holiday and only 2 days notice, he made the tour happen and gave us a discount because we couldn't do every tasting. Despite this we had plenty of food, tastings and a nice sightseeiing through Phnom Penh.
We wanted to try Cambodian street food - eat what the locals eat where they eat (as opposed to tourist restaurants) - but didn’t know how best to do this. We picked this tour because the reviews we saw online were excellent and Sam being both the owner and guide, we figured we could be assured of the quality. Indeed, the tour did not disappoint. Sam picked us up from our hotel in a remorque; the tour group was just us. We were able to try num bahnchok, curry noodles, nom krouk, banh chev, BBQ pork ribs, as well as local pickles and insect snacks, in a variety of settings - at local eateries, along the street, and at a night market. Sam explained what each dish was made of and how to eat it like a local would. Everything was arranged smoothly, including Sam calling ahead to make sure the food would be waiting for us. Bonus point: Sam was personable and engaging. All in all, a very enjoyable and educational experience - highly recommend!
The flavours of Cambodia are unique. With Mr. Sam you get the best service. He can arrange for good vegetarian dishes too. His recommendations of tofu amok is my favorite.
We had an amazing time. It would have taken us months to discover some of the gems our guide took us to. He was amazing and was so passionate about food. Really good value for money. Make sure you are hungry when you go because you are going to eat some serious food ! You will swill it all down with a cocktail st a vibrant bar with live music . A whole street full of amazing bars really good vibe Good yo go back to later. We would never of found this place. If you are on the fence just book it you will not be disappointed Ask for Sam he has twin daughters
Sam is a great host, very friendly and knowledgeable. Food and drink provided as well as extra stops on the way would recommend and we will be back
Sam was a great host. We visited many interesting restaurants and places of interest in Phnom Penh. It is more than a food tour.
Sam picked us up at our hotel. He was friendly. We went to multiple place to try multiple different Cambodian dishes. There was lots to eat. Sam provided water or beer on the tuk tuk. Every place we ate at the food was good. We also got some coconut milk ice cream at the night market. All and all a great tour and a great way to try multiple Cambodian dishes.
Sam took the two of us (my son and I) on a trip to Oudong the former capital of Cambodia during the post-Angkorian period (1618–1863). A good drive from Phnom Penh, but comfortable and pleasant because Sam's driver was skilled. Sam also took the opportunity to provide valuable information at this time. During the trip we made comfort, coffee and lunch stops which were well-timed and taken at a leisurely pace. Reaching Oudong was special because as well as the stupas of Khmer kings of the period, it features one of the most stunning Buddhist temples currently in use in Cambodia with monks and nuns lodged in simple accommodation. The trip finished with a visit to a silversmith from whom after he explained her processes and the huge local employment they provided sold us some very attractive personal jewellery. The whole experience was rounded off with a very substantial and relaxed dinner meal at an exellent restaurant. Finally, for me the best feature was Sam's substantial knowledge of the history of his country which he drew upon at various points of our tour. Well worth while and great for the cost.
Joined the evening street food tour with Sam and his very good new assistant, Michael. Good food and a fine cocktail. A very pleasant evening.
This is my go-to tour in Cambodia! Every year I return to travel through Phnom Penh city and I book tours with Khmer Tours. The guide Mr.Sam is one of a kind. His friendly nature assures me the sites are comfortable to view. I recommend this tour for adventure seekers, cultural enthusiasts and artisans. Sam knows the city and its people very well. Ask for a morning coffee run and enjoy local cuisine. The Oudong mountain tour is my favorite because it’s an experience unlike others. When you go with Khmer Tours you can safely transit to this historic site and listen to Mr. Sam talk of the local history. More than a hike it’s a step into Cambodian lifestyle and heritage. Highlights we suggest: Hotel pick up and drop off Morning Coffee / tea Round trip ride to market English speaking guide Local interactions and praise Friendly atmosphere Suitable for varying age groups Beautiful photography Cultural gem
Great food and company, Sam shares his love for Cambodian food, visited places we would never have found otherwise. Thoroughly recommended.
Honestly, not the best we’ve been on but still enjoyed it. The first restaurant was very rough and dirty but it slowly improved through the night. Very experienced guide who was very helpful and informative. We had to sit in very heavy polluted traffic due to a peace march which was very unpleasant. Guide tried very hard to keep us happy and we were pleased with him.
Amazing experience with elements of food tasting, city-exploring, and learning. Sam was a fantastic guide who piloted me through the streets of Phnom Penh, and I can highly recommend the tour!
Sam is an amazing guide. We had a lovely day in Phnom phen. We saw a lot in 1 day as we just were 1 day in Phnom phen.really recommend Sam.
Amazing and intimate food tour around the main hotspots of PP. As a plus, Sam will give an in-depth explanation of PPs historical sights. Recommend it highly!!
Great experience, Sam knows a lot. Gave us lots of information about history, culture of cambodia and the khmer people. We enjoyed the day very much.
We had a super tour! The explanation of the various dishes and locations was excellent and the guide was really knowledgeable and friendly. I would recommend this to anyone visiting. We got a great sense of the city in a way that you couldn’t if you weren’t a local. All in all very good experience. Thank you!
I went on a school trip to Cambodia, and Sam has great English and showed us around with great detail on the royal family of Cambodia. Sam had amazing knowledge and was very willing to answer the questions that any of the students and staff had. 100% recommend him.
Great local delicacies....Street food to suit all tastes and ages.....night food markets bring life to quiet daytime streets
We did the day tour and then the food tour in the evening. Fantastic guide, very knowledgeable. Would recommend any of these tours.
We had a great evening and enjoyed both, the food and the tour. Sam and Channak were very knowledgeable and entertaining and told us a lot about the dishes we tried. Everything was very tasty and neither us nor our three children had any problem digesting the food. We can fullly recommend the tour.
Our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Got to try some unique local dishes , off the beaten path. Thanks Sam and co for a great experience.
I had the best time with Sam. We had great conversations while we drove around town in the tuk tuk and we tried a whole variety of delicious traditional foods. I have been to Cambodia many times, but he helped me discover new things. I appreciated that we ate some dishes, then did some small sightseeing, and then ate some more food. The pace was good. And he had more beer than I could drink with him!
We had an incredible time on Sam’s food tour. Sam was an excellent guide and an all round great person. He takes great pride in his job and this shows through the knowledge he shares. The food throughout the evening was fantastic and plentiful. Highly recommend doing this tour.
Sam took us on the most wonderful tour of the night food markets and took us to places we wouldn't have found or experienced on our own. Authentic and delicious Cambodian foods served in a whole range of settings. There was such a wide range of tastes and flavours and textures. We filled our bellies and our camera rolls! Sam is very knowledgeable, a skilled communicator, and brilliant company. Don't choose anyone else to take you, he is wonderful and you won't be disappointed.
We came across Sam when we were looking at Phnom Penh food tours and reading the reviews- he got such glowing reviews we decided to book. And we are so glad we did. Not only did we try some tasty food at interesting places that we would never have tried on our own, we also saw some of the main sites of Phnom Penh all accompanied by Sam’s personal stories and insights of life in Cambodia. Thank you Sam! We would highly recommend this as a Phnom Penh must do experience
We loved this experience and would highly recommend it to anyone travelling to Phnom Penh. Sam has an excellent knowledge of the city and best food spots, and is generous with answering questions and sharing stories about his life. Sam’s daughter joined us on the tour too and we enjoyed her company. We did this tour on our first night in Cambodia, and we were very tired from some overnight flights, Sam was accommodating and let us go at our own pace. We loved all of the food that we tried, thank you Sam for this excellent night.
Sam's food tour of Phnom Penh is fun and informative. You will eat many different local delicacies at both sectet restaurants as well as clean street food stalls. Beer and water are provided throughout the evening as well as frequent bathroom availability. In the middle of the tour, you will take a break from eating and walk through upscale parts of the city, not on orher tours. Sam has lived in the Phnom Pehn for his adult life, but he grew up in the countryside. This combination makes him very knowledgeable. He speaks very good English.
Sam was very personable and knowledgeable but most importantly he was interested in what we wanted. He tailored parts of the tour to questions we asked.
Sam and his ten-year-old daughter were excellent hosts and tour guides. Lots to see and eat in Phnom Penh; it was a fun experience.
sam was a great guide. Food great but not rushed. he had time to take us to some interesting places like Nagaworld. combination of tuk tuks and walking. good balance
Excellent VIP treatment. I really enjoyed the local, family run place and also the Street Food. Sam is generous and knowledgeable and his driver is very gentle. Great way to spend an evening here in Pnomh Pen.
This tour was a customised tour to the live night music of Phnom Penh. My tour guide, Sam is extremely knowledgeable of the city. This tour took us to 2 venues, The first venue was the Music 60 70's Restaurant and Bar, a fantastic venue, low key, full of ambience and a very authentic Khmer culture. The music was traditional Khmer performed by a talented band and singers, with also dancing on the floor. You can stop by for a full meal or just buy a drink whilst enjoying the music and dance. Staff are very friendly. More upmarket was the next venue, Yang Pov Restaurant and Bar Riverside. A classy environment. Again great live music with a fully featured talented band and a host of singers. A dance floor allows guests to join in with dancing and the waiters and waitresses will also participate. Lots of fun. There is plenty of ambience, with shifting lights and theatrical fog imbuing the dim and absorbing atmosphere. Again, guests are free to just order drinks or dine on the sumptuous menu available. Overall a great time and a highly recommended tour. Thanks to Sam for organising and hosting this tour.
This food tour is a great introduction to the sights, sounds and tastes of Phnom Penh. Sam will share local foods and culture through an immersive evening designed to delight your senses. Highly recommend this experience to get to know the city through the eyes of a local. I only wish I had been able to eat more!
I would select Sam as my favored tour guide for any selected tour in Cambodia. We went on his Oudong Mountain Tour and Temples Tour. It enabled us to see how Cambodians live outside Phenom Penn. Sams knowledge of Cambodian history and culture is unsurpassed. He maximizes your time in transit with stories and history lessons which provide a context for the temples and ancient ruins you will visit. His English is excellent and he readily responds to your questions. We have been fortunate to spend seventeen days in Cambodia and this was clearly the best tour we had on this trip. Next time we will definitely take his food tour and any other tour he facilitates!
Sam is awesome! We did his evening food tour. He is warm, funny, and personable. And very knowledgeable! We liked that he didn’t just go from food place to food place. Rather, he took us by tuk-tuk and walking to sights and explained them in-between meals. The tastes were typical Cambodian fare, which is what we wanted. Delicious! Even the fried spiders and silkworms were tasty! We returned to one of the local vendors on our own the next evening—it was as good as we remembered. Highly recommend!
I had the pleasure of joining an evening food tour with Mr. Sam in Phnom Penh tonight, and it was an incredible experience. We sampled a variety of local foods and traveled by open-air tuk-tuk, which was wonderfully refreshing with the evening breeze. Mr. Sam was exceptionally flexible with the timing, adjusting our stops and the order of activities to suit the weather when it rained heavily at one point. His extensive local knowledge and history insights added great depth to the tour. I wouldn't hesitate to join another tour with him on my next visit or recommend him to others. He was always considerate, spoke great English, and was happy to share his personal experiences and discuss any topic. Thank you, Mr. Sam, for an unforgettable evening!
Sam picked us up from the hotel. He was very friendly and polite. First we tried the rice noodles which were very nice. We went on a walk around the russian market trying fruit and looking at the many array of vegetables. Any questions we asked sam answered us and was very knowledgeable. There were only 3 of us on this tour so it seemed very personal. We throughly enjoy ourselves and saw many things and places we would never had seen if not for taking this tour. The food at the restaurant was absolutely lovely. We would highly recommend this tour in phnom penh. Thankyou sam.
Sam was very knowledgeable about everything, very polite and excellent guide. I would recommend this tour to my family and friends. All the food we tasted was amazing and delicious. Sam took us to places to taste food that we would never thought of going. We all had a great night which was well entertaining.
Mr. Sam was my guide on Feb 7. I purposely didn’t eat lunch for this evening tour. We started a little early which I didn’t mind. The first stop was almost next door to my hotel. There were two dishes. Along the way we stopped by a hotel and a few other sites- a mini guided tour to add! I was provided cold water. Went to the Night Market for ice cream. I wanted boba tea, and Mr. Sam and driver took me to get one. He asked if I wanted to go to a stop for sightseeing after the tour, but I was getting tired. There were five stops in all. The pork on a stick was probably my favorite. Even though I went hungry, I could not finish all the foods.

Sam is an excellent tour guide and excellent company:) we went on the evening food tour and had several food experiences that you might be hesitant to try if you weren’t introduced by a local guide like Sam. A cold beer on a Tuc Tuc zipping through the Phnom Penh night is a pleasure not to be missed. Enjoy!
Good tour. We went around the city and tried all the local delights (savoury and sweet). Had a nice balance of walking and tuk-tuk rides so it kept our hunger going for more food :)
After I enjoyed the Phnom Penh tour with Sam so much, I went on the food tour with him today. It was a private tour, so Sam was very flexible in meeting my wishes. It was a wonderful evening. Sam chose the restaurants with typical local dishes after asking me what I liked and what I didn't like. I highly recommend this tour. I liked it so much that I will book it a second time on my next visit to Phnom Penh.
Sam was a ln enthusiastic tour guide and adapted the tour for us two. I would recommend Sam and will definitely call him up when we visit again. We visited authentic restaurants off the beaten path and ate how locals eat. We ended the tour on a rooftop sky bar.
The tour visited 4 food spots, which was nice, but it would have been better to include more local street food options for a fuller experience.
This tour is a fantastic introduction to cambodian food as well as seeing some of the sights of Phnom Penh. Our tour guide Sam was very knowledgeable and personable. He taught us a lot about the culture and cambodian history. I would especially recommend this tour early in your time in Cambodia.
What a fantastic food tour. Thanks to Mr. Sam Ang I got to try some new local Cambodian Khmer traditional foods. The tour was a special experience. Sam brought our tour to many locations to try different dishes. He showed us traditional ways to prepare noodle dishes, taught us Khmer names for desserts and let us try savory street snacks. Sam was also considerate to have vegetarian food options for our Veggie friends. 🥕🥕 I would recommend this tour for someone who wants to explore new flavours, new cooking styles and try things you would never think of. THIS TOUR IS FOR YOU if you want to experience real flavours. Tips: state your dietary restrictions before the tour, wear comfortable walking shoes, have patience. 🌸
I had an incredible experience on this tour. Each stop showcased authentic flavours. Highly recommended for any food/cultural lover!
