Fabulous complete tour of Rottnest. Highly recommend. Fun to have the short train ride through an area you wouldn’t normally see. Then the excellent tour of the military battery with detailed descriptions by the volunteer guide. Walked throughout the complex and saw our first (of many) quokkas. Cute little guys, unafraid so can get close. Followed by a bus ride with plenty of stops around the rest of the island. Then back to the ferry for the ride back to Hillary’s. Noticed that we were the only ones who tipped the bus driver/guide who was excellent. We were the only Americans and maybe the Aussies don’t do it. Glad we did, he made it special. We had to wait about an hour before our hotel drop bus left for Perth.

Itinerary
Take advantage of a courtesy coach pick-up from your Perth hotel and enjoy a relaxing drive along Perth's northern beaches (if required). Alternatively, you also have the option to drive yourself and take advantage of Hillarys Boat Harbour free parking. Your tour officially begins at 9am when you check in at the Rottnest Fast Ferries office, before departing Hillarys Boat Harbour at 10am for a 45-minute crossing to Rottnest Island.
Upon arrival at Rottnest Island, make your way to the Rottnest Island Settlement Railway Station(highlighted on a map provided to you at check in) to begin your Grand Island Tour with a historic train ride to Oliver HIll. on the historic Captain Hussey train. Sit back and relax on this unique railway experience while you enjoy the views.
On arrival at Oliver Hill, explore the WWII Guns and Tunnels with a guided tour (please note there are more than 240 steps over this one-hour tour and therefore not suitable for those with mobility issues. Children cannot be carried for safety reasons). Learn about the military history of Oliver Hill and how Rottnest Island played a part in the defence of the port of Fremantle during WWII. Then enjoy a light picnic lunch.
After lunch, board an air conditioned coach to explore the island further. Enjoy the running commentary of Rottnest's unique history, environment, heritage and wildlife whilst taking in the beauty of Rottnest Island by road. Make a stop at Wadjemup Lighthouse and admire the views from Jeannie's Lookout.
Travel out to the rugged West End of the island and enjoy the spectacular views. See the colony of long-nose fur seals at Cathedral Rocks.
After your tour you'll have some free time to explore Rottnest's main settlement area and visit the local shops, before catching the ferry back to Hillarys Boat Harbour and (if required) taking our courtesy coach back to your Perth accommodation.

This is a very organised tour from Perth hotel pick up to Rottnest island return. The Grand Island tour was very interesting which includes a light lunch. The colours of the water around the island is amazing. Highly recommend this tour
Gangs of feral kids going around the island stealing the bikes of people who had paid to bring them over on the ferry. Little or no security presence on the island. Had to spend half the day searching for the stolen bikes and then forced to confront hooligans to retrieve them. No assistance from the tour operator available on the island. Would not recommend this type of tour.
Pickup from hotel went well but on arrival total confusion with booking no tickets for ferry, bus, train or tunnel tour and lunch. All of which had to be rebooked. Tunnel tour was unavailable as it was fully booked. Rushed as we were last to board ferry.
What an awesome experience. Did the Grand tour, the guide /bus driver (Ken ) was awesome Amazing knowledge of the Island. Great lunch provided
Definitely recommend this tour! We throughly enjoyed this day trip and loved how organised it was! Our tour guide, Fiona was just fantastic! She kept us intrigued all day with interesting facts about the island and its history while we snacked on our delicious lunch! A special thanks to John, our Oliver Hill Volunteer on the day too!
The experience was made better by our guides who were full of great personality and knowledge
I had the best time!! Greg that bus driver doing the transfers was great and on time. The island transfers were easy and hassle-free from Hillary's. Trevor our tour guide of Rottnest Island was fantastic and provided a great commentary of the island and it's history. Rottnest Island is absolutely stunning and I was so glad I made this a part of my Perth Trip.
So well organized. Ran like clockwork. From communication, pick up, ferry and tour on Rottnest it was a great day. All the guides were so knowledgeable and Fiona went above and beyond
Volunteers & staff had a wealth of knowledge, very friendly. Plenty of opportunities for photos. Lunch was fantastic. Great day.
This is a tour that is very good, but each section you need to be wary you are not with a group from start to finish of the day. The group tour starts on the island at the train station
Rodriguez was an excellent guide. He was very friendly, helpful and funny. He really took care of everybody. He made the trip so much fun and interesting.
Did day tour at rottnest with train and A/C. Female host was unreal and we saw plenty inc dolphins which was great. Informative and relaxing, great to do
Our day started perfectly with whale sightings on the ferry across to Rottnest Island. The train ride up to Oliver’s Mount was a great experience, and the guided tour around the guns was both fascinating and informative — our volunteer guide really brought the history to life. Lunch was simple but tasty — a wrap, a couple of biscuits, and a bottle of water — before we continued our island coach tour. The scenery was absolutely stunning, with plenty of photo stops along the way. Back at the settlement, we met the famous quokkas, which was a real highlight, and even spotted more whales on the ferry ride back to Hillarys. Our guide Leah was outstanding — friendly, knowledgeable, and a great photographer too! Highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Perth.
This was an absolutely fantastic day we had the best time, the tour was informative the ferry ride was awesome and the quokka were cute, an around fabulous experience 😀
Very good overview of Rottnest Island history, flora and fauna and land features. Well informed guide lunch was tasty. We were provided with water and given the opportunity to use restroom facilities.
Ferry trip from Hillarys excellent. Rottnest once you get out of the settlement is excellent. The island is picturesque. Bayseeker tour was so good with opportunities to take a photo and driver was excellent Quokkas superb they are brilliant
An amazing tour, with so much info about the island. Lunch was lovely and would do the tour again, great
The tour was excellent and great value for money. Nicky the tour guide was fantastic, very knowledgeable and friendly. Even the lunch was great. The only issue is there is nothing to let you know where to go when you get off the ferry. I didn’t even know we had to meet at the train station never mind how to get there. I assumed the tour was on a bus so got direction to the bus stop but could clearly see that wasn’t right so then had to ask again and was finally directed to the station. Everyone else waiting there had had the same issue and none of us were quite sure we were in the right place until the tour guide arrived. It needs to clearly say in the emails to meet at the station and some clear signage of how to get there once you are on the island - at the ferry stop.
A full day at Rottnest Island with amazing weather! Great views, turquoise waters, and the highlight—meeting the quokkas. Truly a memorable experience.
We had a really good time visiting Rottnest Island! The highlight was definitely meeting the friendly local quokkas – they’re so adorable and welcoming. The blue sea surrounding the island was absolutely stunning, making the whole experience very scenic and relaxing. Lunch, however, was just a cold sandwich, and I think it would have been much nicer if we were brought to a proper restaurant to complement the overall experience. That said, the surprise visit to the old bomb shelter was unexpected and added an interesting twist to the trip. Overall, I’d highly recommend including Rottnest Island in your Perth itinerary. Between the wildlife, the natural beauty, and the unique historical spots, it’s well worth a visit!
That the ferry ride can be very choppy. And viator service as a booking agent stinks, bypass viator and book direct with the tour company. I will never use viator again.
This tour included a pick up and drop off to a nearby hotel which was super convenient! The train trip and guided tour of the World War 2 gun and tunnel site was excellent and gave insight into the past. There was also a bus tour of the island and our guide gave us informative commentary and highlighted points of interest along the way. A great trip for first time visitors to Rottnest Island!
Ferry great & fast. Tour great with terrific photo opportunities. Driver of coach very informative and you will meet the gorgeous quokkas.
I booked this tour of Rottnest Island because I can't ride a bike and wasn’t sure if exploring on foot would be enough to see everything. While the tour was well-organized and the guide was friendly, just be aware that most of the experience happens from inside the bus. There were only a couple of very short stops and the rest of the time we were driving past places I wish we could have explored more. If you're hoping to really take in the island, this might feel a bit limiting, especially if you're seated on the side away from the views.
Well-organised tour which gave us a lot of information about the history and features of Rottnest. The tour guide for the bus trip around the island (Jason) was the most knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide we’ve ever had on a guided tour in the past 20 years!
Really good experience, Rottnest Island is definitely worth seeing. I only wish we had a few more photo stops along the bus tour.
The experience was amazing. Well worth the money. The guide was very informative and friendly. The Island is an amazing place and well worth the visit. Would do this trip againA .
Thoroughly enjoyed this all inclusive full day tour of Rottnest Island. Loved the hotel pick up and drop off as I didn't have to think about anything! Rotto is a must see - such a unique island with so much interesting history, flora and fauna. Light lunch was delicious, ample time for photos and rest, staff all very helpful.
Fun filled day with lots of activities and sightseeing . The ferry ride Rottnest island is terrific, the tour started early before lots of visitors arrived at the island . Loved the Battery excursion, train ride and sightseeing .
Amazing tour of island…loved the big gun and the history with the fantastic volunteer lady. Ken drove us around to all his childhood fave beaches…. So much fun. Delicious picnic lunch. Will certainly recommend.
Almost missed going here pickup bus just pulled in didn't even get out the girl at reception alerted me ran the bus now was stopped at lights awomen at the crossing alerted driver he opened the door then lied about having waited 5mibs no use arguing with him got on bus latter told captain at the ferry about also no ticket provided for island tour well then as it heated up no air con working on tour bus this went on until the afternoon till they changed bus for one the the air con there where a lot of angry passenger's but the train was working this time second bus had middle door that made getting out easier but because of the problems have taken one star off you will see quokas beautiful coastal views a lighthouse an overall quick look at all the island highlights plus the fort with tunnels @gun water provided picnic lunch provided a good way to see Rottnest island
Excellent in all respects. From the time we were picked up from our hotel until we were dropped off. Great commentary from the bus driver. Couldn’t fault any aspect of the day.
The tour offered was on an air conditioned coach. After alighting the ferry there were no directions on getting to a designated railway which, when found, was over 400 meters from the ferry. I am on crutches and struggled in the excessive heat to make the train departure. On arrival at the train a lady tour guide who had pulled up in a golf cart with a sign on top showing it was for disabled travelers explained to me that had she known I could have gotten a lift from her, all I had to do was contact her. If only there was some sort of communication about this, I was left feeling that it was somehow my fault that I did not know all this. Then we got the train to it's destination and we walked another very steep 40-50- meters to a gun battery. Then my favorite guide arrived again telling us to walk back down the hill another 100 or so meters to finally get on the promised air conditioned bus. The light lunch was a wrap but OK. The bus did manage to drop us near where there were two Qualls for a minute or two. The bus dropped us back somewhere in the village precinct and thankfully not quite as far away from the ferry as the train station. The bus pick up and drop off at Perth gave the impression that it would be near or even at your own hotel but not the case at all. Not as advertised and not impressed.
Been to Australia 3 times and always meant to go to the island. Boat was on time and apart from I get sea sick all was good. After settling down once arrived we got a map and made a plan. Went to the bus pick up stop and impressed to see the guy cleaning the bus for us to get on. Boiling day so air conditioned bus much appreciated. Half way round the island our bus broke down! The guy was brilliant, he said if you want you can walk a little way to a gorgeous beach, have a swim and I will give come and give you a call when get going or another bus. The sea was inviting and beach empty, just perfect. As promised the guy came and gave us a shout that getting going again, we decided to stay where we were. He told us where to walk to the next bus pick up and it had shade to wait under just wonderful. Later in the early evening we took the bus trip again and learnt so much from this same guy by chance, he was a credit to the company don't loose him. Loved the island and hope one day back in Australia to visit again. Very late in reviewing this trip but better late than never. Really wish we could remember drivers name.
Great trip, well organized, great guide. A bit confusing as to we’re to find the departure point at first and at lunch facility to wipe down tables or table cloths would have been good.
Rottnest is beautiful with a stunning coastline I highly recommend the Grand Island tour, we saw every inch of the stunning coastline from the comfort of the air con coach.
Well organised tour. Very comprehensive. The only negative was not visiting the lighthouse. I would have liked to seen it up close and possibly climbed it. We could only look from afar due to time constraints. I would suggest this is included in the future as we visited 437 different bays which all see the same after awhile.
Check out a better way to start your journey than courtesy coach. Re confirmed 48 hrs B4 is a pain. Very long bus journey. Pick up in street nearby not at our hotel.Dont use Hillary's boat yard if like us you are 15 mins from Perth ferry terminals. Rest of trip was well worth it. Views. History. Guide. Quokkas. Even bumpy ferry ride. Loading those bikes was an art form. Signage on island is not plentiful so don't lose the map.
Mini bus pickup from City to Hillary’s harbour. Excellent diesel train trip to Oliver Hill gun emplacements with full tour of the amazing wartime facility. Lunch supplied then bus trip around the island with full commentary on all the sights and history. Saw a rare Osprey with nest, dugite snakes sunning themselves, friendly lizards, whales and of course the little quokkas. These were common around the commercial area near the harbour!
A well organised and informative trip. The tour took us all over the beautiful island and made good use of the time. Glad we were on the tour as the weather was very windy which would of made cycling difficult
That was a really good day trip. We got to see all of Rottnest Island. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The ferry ride over was a little bumpy but made it there.
90 minute discovery Tour of Rottnest Island on September 11. Tour Guide Sophie/ Sonia was outstanding. Presentation methods and subject knowledge were excellent. Seen by the bus load of tourists as personable and generous.
Loved seeing all the different beaches on Rottnest Island. The train was not running so we had a full bus to take is around the island. Although the bus driver had tons of knowledge, the entire day, almost was spent riding a bus. There was very little time after the tour for a look at the shops or get an ice cream. Did get to see quite a few quokkas. The ride on the ferry was one of the most enjoyable parts of the day.
We thoroughly enjoyed our day at Rottnest Island. Rottnest Fast Ferries were excellent. Guided tour of island was comprehensive and enjoyable. Tour of gun & tunnels was extremely informative. Volunteer guide was very knowledgeable. Beautiful Island with lots of options for travellers.
The boat ride was an experience for sure. The train and bus was great too, but the our tour guide lady was fantastic.
Wonderful day trip with very knowledgeable tour guides , Glen on the coach . Saw beautiful sights and learnt about the history of the island.and the quokkas were amazing , some with babies
Seeing the Quockkas, although you don't have to do a tour, they are all around the main part of town.
Train not working, very limited time at points of interest or bus did not stop at points of interest.
Had to run from late ferry to tour bus. Bus broken too. Train been broken for weeks, wasn't told till last minute. Didn't see quokka till last hour on island due to tour. Tour guide amateur, rushed. Gun turret interesting.
